Hey everybody, I'm really sorry for the delay on the rest of this series. I finally am getting back to sorting through the video & will do my best to get the additional parts up in the coming weeks!
Enjoyed the video and found it informative but didn't much care for the background music loop. Listening on headphones and had to turn to volume way down.
I’m not a big fan of background music on vids like this, but this track is OK. I DO agree that it’s too loud for “background”. Maybe 20% less would be the sweet spot?
I like your video’s because they’re chill and usually well explained. The music doesn’t add to this vibe! So my opinion is, no music! :) or maybe more lofi hiphop (look it up on Spotify) that doesn’t intrude as much.
Hey, bro, Nick, just wanna say one thing to you after watching a lot of your videos. And I'm planning on watching more. I sure hope you treat your dad really well. It's not every day that a father leaves a legacy. Or a opportunity like that for their child. Or children, your dad is pretty amazing guy. And I know what it's like to live with someone VS know someone but your dad seems like he just wants to just enjoy what he does. And I hope that you appreciate that. Because my father never appreciated that I wanted to be something more than he was and He still doesn't
I'm so glad I was able to find your channel by seeing a few of your #shorts videos. I love your videos man. Youre channel is gonna blow up soon. Thanks for sharing your hard work with us.
This is exhausting to watch because of your filming technique. It would be far better with the camera stationary. And the music is very distracting. Your Firebird 350 videos were great.
Awesome, but .... I just couldn't take the moving camera. Next time, please set a second camera on a tripod for a static version. Thanks. PS: No music would have been better.
Hi Guys, When you removed the bolts from the connecting rods, I noticed you used a press to force the bolts out. Could this kind of force make the small end of the connecting rods out of round ? You're very meticulous dismantling and rebuilding the 396 and devoted time measuring the large end and re-sizing to factory specs, which is thousands of an inch. Thanks and take care. Roland
The 455 Olds V8 had only one weak point: too small an oil pan, only 4 quart capacity. It should have had much more than that. In contrast, the 2001 Aurora 4.0 V8, only a bit more than half the size of the 455 (244 cubic inches) has a 7 quart pan.
Comparing the factory intake manifold to the performer the difference is weight but the factory flows better and if you want something to flow better than go with the Edelbrock Torker unless you can find a '70 4 4 2 W-30 aluminum intake but they are rare and expensive if you can find them
Been watching you for a while. Went way back in time to this one and it was painful to watch with the background music and shaky camera. You've come a long ways since back when this was made. 😊
Hello , i was watching your video with interest, I have a 371 Oldsmobile running in my 58 olds. It has 124 k miles on the motor. does not use any oil ,does not smoke etc but i do notice when i stop at lights etc there is some vapour coming from under the car from a breather tube. could this be a sign that i may need to think about a rebuild ? Many Thanks.. Great video you have done !!!!
Wouldn't hurt to pull it down and check the valves and seats to make sure they're newer and meant for unleaded gas. Check ring gaps, but if you have some blowby then a leak-down test will let you know how bad it is.
There will always be vapor out of a road draft tube. What I don't know is how acceptable it is. The longer you stay in one place the more vapor you will see.
@@JAMSIONLINE I understand now after reading some of the other comments. I’m a long time subscriber and love your content. Keep up the good work and thank you for responding!
The "Blair Witch" camera work I can tolerate, that damned music though drives me up the wall! Man I hate it when people add that crap, just do the actual sound or nothing.
I'm sorry bro but "Wild " and Oldsmobile can't be used to describe any Olds motor street car .. sorry you want wild install a Chevy BB then get wild ...And the correct place to start is the Gold early Olds motor NOT the blue motor bro ...and to make life real easy I cut the carbon ridge with a knife or wire wheel to make piston removal a walk in the park . they nearly fall out on there own .

The only thing I see that could be improved is look into some Milwaukee cordless impact you will be so happy to not lug the air hose around
Do you have any 455s for sale?
I do not like this format, the hat cam views suck.
I mean, it’s a 2+ year old video lol
Finally someone who explains and shows everything about the how's, ins & outs
Enjoyed the video and found it informative but didn't much care for the background music loop. Listening on headphones and had to turn to volume way down.
I think the music made it 10x cooler lol
@@SHESAMAN unfortunately, you’re wrong.
I agree with you but i grew up in the 70's and dont quite get the new music styles.

I think this is pretty cool. While I actually like the music, it'd be cool to explain more of the parts and what you're doing.
Can’t wait to see the continuation of the build!!!!
I really need to get the rest of the video made... Hope I can remember what all we did lol.
I will never understand the purpose of the music. Especially when it drowns out the comments.
You guys are great ,but dam that was funny when you lifted the 2 person intake when you still had lifting plate attached ❤😂
Dude you look like your 12 years old compared to your current vids Love all your videos.
What the hell kind of music is that ? NO, Never mind ! Looking forward to this big block power ? Thanks. Nice shop .
Elves abusing helium
The Olds 455 was a legendary engine.
Found where you removed the piston wrist pins, thanks! ;)

Thanks for your replies, I will do a leak down test and see how we go, Many thanks and great video's !!!
YOUR WORK IS ONE OF THE BEST, УДАЧИ👍
I miss being able to go to the parts store and buy a fuel pump and put it in myself .
After struggling with 2 bolts alittle .
Nice video... use a tripod we are dizzy
Haha will do, I thought the GoPro first person view would be cool but turns out it just came out a bit hard to watch :P. My bad, live & learn right?
Jim's Automotive Machine Shop, Inc. I like the first person view!
This is awesome bro
Thank you for your knowledge and video's USA 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸
Awesome, but .... I just couldn't take the moving camera. Next time, please set a second camera on a tripod for a static version. Thanks.

Holy mackerel those pistons have a quite dish I'll say 8:50 compression
Kind of like the Ford FE, the heads already look 3 feet apart but the narrow valve covers make it look even wider.
Thank you. Please explain what "baking" is and why do you do it.

The other weakness is that the oiling system sent too much oil to the heads and it didn't drain back to the pan quickly enough.
The 455 held 5 quarts.
@@totalyep For the Toronado. All other 455s had 4 quart pans.
@@Marc816 nope. My 442 holds every bit of 5. My Buick Gsx 455 holds 4.
@@totalyep Do you have a Toronado pan on your 442?
Tips, tricks and what your looking for during the work would be cool as you go.
Good stuff though!
What's the most that you can bore this motor out and get horsepower out of it.Please comment back.Would love to know thank you

Oooff the Pov camera is dizzying
Awesome videos, but that music makes my ears bleed! 🤣🤣 Keep up the excellent content.
Background music and dizzying camera work make this unwatchable
This is one of the first videos I ever made. Please consider watching one of my newer videos that are much better quality!
PLEASE no music!
Old video, none of my new videos have music 👌🏻
Here you go put that 455 Oldsmobile in your Buick. What do you think of that.
What is the price on a build like this?
Been watching you for a while. Went way back in time to this one and it was painful to watch with the background music and shaky camera. You've come a long ways since back when this was made. 😊
Please tell me this came out of an Oldsmobile Toronado FWD or a GMC Motorhome????
It didn't come out of a Toronado that's a fact.
I have a 73 riviera, is this the same 455 engine that that engine would have?
If your riveria has a 455 , it would be a Buick 455 which is a completely different engine. 🍺

How much would this cost
How long does this entire process take you guys from start to finish?
According to the video, it only took them a little over ten minutes.
That engine must be really low compression.
PLEASE dump the music! UGH!
You are never to press out a pin out of a rod without heating them up. Now the rods are bent.
Music is annoying
You make a great video. I like everything with the exception of the stupid Tik Tok music. You guys are A Cut Above that I think
Subscribed to the channel for part 2!
early days.
Poor music choice right here
Do away with the dumb sound track.
If you watch my new videos I have lol. Give a guy a break, I’m learning 😂
I like the video. The music though, 😬
Need a 1/2 " milwaukee
Cut the music. it ruins the video
The Martian noise in the background is annoying
Come on man, the crank can’t be that heavy ! I know it’s cast iron but still. Then again work smart not hard
Sorry! Had to mute. Music is pretty awful. Love your work though!
None of my new videos have music 👍🏼 this video was very early on my UA-cam career lol

These engines have oiling issues
I have never seen anyone but me put or remove a cam without letting it fall downward.
just have to ruin it with music

Video was great. Anything Oldsmobile interests me. The music was terrible and irritating.
Your videos are great. This was the first with music and it is dreadful. CUT THE MUSIC.. Go back to your roots.
I don't care for the music in vidio
I jasted a whole 5 minutes! Can't abide the bubble-gum music!
The music is horrible.
I can do without the stupid music
