But when you have to surrender truth and righteousness to entertain young people to persuade them to join your congregation you are building your church on sand. Too many modern churches on producing "shows" just to cater to the younger crowd. In the end, having to produce fancy shows to attract a younger crowd won't create the faith in the church's members to establish a solid foundation for the church.
Our church is closer to 70% being over 65. We have probably 15% that are over 80. Having a hard time getting a younger group on the doors. We have a weekly attendance of about 45 to 50.
Calvary Chapels seem to be the only young and organized church right now. The other denominations don’t need to abandon tradition. They just need to update the buildings and energy.
Maybe… The younger generation(s) need to change instead of the churches. Traditional church and bible translations have been saving souls for 400+ years. Instead of wanting to be entertained, they should worship in a reverent, awe-filled respect of their creator.
Willingness to change? There is no change in the Gospel. Our younger people should seek wisdom from the older generation but the younger generations suffer from knowing it all already.
Who said anything about changing the Gospel? There are "practical ways" of doing church that can and should change. Changing how you "do church" does not equate to compromising sound doctrine.
Do you think the music really needs to be 1800- 1970's hymns? Or can we use modern worship music? I think this is the type of change that is probably necessary for health and longevity. My church does modern music but puts hymns in our worship also. The old, the traditions we are brought in with, meeting the new.
The older generation in churches are often neglected. The target population is the younger generation. Evangelism likewise targets young people; the lost older generation gets little love.
I think that churches should change, not in the sense that their teachings of God in essence should, NO. But I think that the way they set it up, they way they explain things, should start to fit more into the modern era.
They've been doing that for decades. Hasn't worked out very well, has it? I'm 31 and I would much rather go to a traditional and ancient liturgy that has stood the test of millenia, rather than some rock concert that is just a cheap copy of ephemeral modern culture.
The problem isn't having all ages the problem is catering to children teens and college students who are not equipped to lead or be worship leaders or teachers, many being new to the faith yet they've been given duties and authority in church that is for show and not appointed by God. The church should be full of the word of GOD not the ted talks and circuses and video games and movies ...it's time for the entire church to repent, time is very short. If you know and love LORD JESUS, follow HIM
Nah when you're retired you have all the time in the world. Might as well think about going to church. Might as well get up early one day of the week to feel good, right?
I actually felt more connected and supported by the older Christian’s in my church than the adults my age.
It seems like a lot of churches are concerned about the coffee bar and the rock band. Not much different than being at a rock concert.

“Diverse” is usually code for not following the Gospel as it is written. See progressive churches.
Another key word of concern is “relevant”.

The problem with churches is that people only care on Sunday.
In the classical Protestant churches it’s probably more like 90% over 65.

Songs change. Sermon topics change. Notes taking and Bible translations change. Lighting and videos change. Outreach activities change

This content creates division amongs people. My friend speaks like this after switching churches and it saddens me. I pray for you brother.

The problem with older churches is that 10% of their social security check isn't enough money
On point with that comment.
