I think the thing that's so wrong with recent games is that they think being 3d is enough. I, personally, don't think people wanted 3d pokemon as much as they wanted the pokemon to feel alive. The sprite animations in gen 5 are so much better than the 3d models imo because the sprite animations feel more alive than these lifeless plastic models
Hi! You're a Pokemon-Fan but not a Gamefreak-Fan? UNDERSTANDABLE!! I agree with what you said about 3D and sprites. I much prefer the spites (which is pretty much done right) because to me, it kind of has that more intense feeling behind it with the color and incredible detail. It’s just more fun to look at. The 3D is rather a bit boring after the first few minutes of gameplay (especially the bits of SwSh), but I’m not going to go on and say I hate the game though.
yeah. When they made the leap to 3D in X and Y it was as if they discovered fire. That was the big marketing point, and considering it was the 3ds, sure, i’ll give it to em. But in the era of the switch, 3d is nothing special, it’s the norm. Even for a handheld focused company, they struggled too much with decent 3d development, and so they couldn’t focus on good animations and all that. They need some new devs.
You want to know the worst part about all of the DLC ; they officaly stated in an interview with IGN that the DLC were in development before sword and shield release which mean that they intentionally hold back content and pokemons to make us pay 30 extra dollars per game.
@@jlcdrawings9312 I mean when the main selling point of the second DLC is "You can catch all the legendaries again" its kind of obvious that they are not trying
All the pokemon look so weird now, even the pseudo legendary looks weird .like, how people like me could make better pokemon it's like gamefreak needs to hire some fans.
Their oficial statement to the Rival-Issue is extremly telling and off-putting. It clearly and very clearly and also clearly shows how immensely distanced they are to their fanbase. @@ringer1324 Iwata did have a hand in every pokemon game since the gen 2 on the gameboy until Black 2 and White 2 and a bit in X and Y until his final days All though I’ll say he isn’t the only man behind these games it comes to show he’s had some ethical standards for the series which is visually gone nowadays
Dude I feel the same way. It's so heartbreaking seeing a franchise I grew up with become this. Sucks because I used to love this franchise. Pokemon hasn't been the same since Iwata passed. I'm not sure it's gonna get any better with how adamant some fans are about defending everything Pokemon.
To me the decline of Pokémon began with X/Y. Gen 5 had an interesting story, nice animated battle animations, and a lot of content for after you defeat the elite four. Gen 6 in comparison offered static 3D models, little content, and a lot of pandering to people who liked Gen 1 and Charizard. Gen 7 was slightly better, but I didn't think it did enough to compare to Gen 3-5 and I haven't even bothered with Gen 8 after seeing all the cuts to features in previous games only to sell those same features as DLC less than a few months later.
"cuts to previous features" I think part of this problem is that having a continuous development pipeline doesn't really give them an opportunity to reflect on what actually worked for the players and what didn't, what to keep and what to change.
Idk, gen 7 has the best story, a bunch of quality of life changes, and a large amount of side quests. It really is only held back by the Ultra games being a step back from the last follow up games... oh and the festival plaza *shivers*
Where did the difficulty settings go? It was in black and white 2 and it could help the new Pokemon games so much, honestly gen 8 is just a cash grab since gamefreak knows that if it’s Pokemon people will buy it
@@rlm7170 And even then, BW2, the game that had a hard mode, didn't really execute it very well. It was a pain in the ass to unlock. If they ever do a hard mode again it should be available from the start.
Sorry you lost money to wake up. I saw right through that and didn't get it because I knew what they would do before they announced it, I saw the writing on the wall so to speak.
The sad fact is. The fanbase is part of the problem. By pre ordering and buying everything at launch without thinking twice about it you give Gamefreak and TPC the excuse that they need to deliver mediocre mediocrity instead of making complete final product that makes the franchise future proof. On the bright side. Leaving Pokémon behind me with the exception of gen 5 and 4 (gen 5 was the best generation when it comes to story writing and character development) opened my eyes to other JRPGs that I have missed over the years. If TPC doesn't deliver the product I want I could spend my money elsewhere and I did. I have no regrets
@@TSPH1992 Definitely. Mother 1's grindier though like Dragon Quest, so Mother 2 is the better starting point. Unless you can handle NES RPGs. But Mother 1 definitely feels like Pokemon, considering some of the staff that worked on it went to Pokemon next, I believe. The protagonist for example, looks similar to Red. His name is Ninten.
@@TSPH1992 Nice! I hope you enjoy it. The beginning's kind of slow, but once you get through the first town, you should hopefully find that you're enjoying yourself. Good luck!
Huh, this video is unfinished. It's twice the length it should be, there's tons of empty space and nothing substantial after the credits roll 21 min. in ... wait a second! That sounds familiar! This video was made by Game Freak!
The lack of content and the addition of old pokemon through dlc was a huge mistake on GFs part. I've been playing since age 7 and to see them falling into the same scheme as Activision, EA , treyarch crushes me.
I played Leaf Green since childhood, but only just became interested in the games. I think I will stick to the older games, because the newer games don't seem worth my time. I also dislike the 3D style; just isn't my groove.
@@Schnort Keep in mind that 3D in JRPG’s are typically very well done, except for when Game Freak attempts 3D. I have seen so many unbelievably amazing things from Fan created hub worlds and game environment concepts. Unfortunately, Nintendo is absolutely draconian with their Intellectual Property Protection and Game Freak settles into pleasing the lowest common denominator, so it will be a very long time before Pokémon reaches the level of potential that we all know the franchise has.
@Parker Family finally, someone who doesn't immediately blame game freak but instead puts the blame on the actual culprit, the company itself. Sword and shield were very obviously rushed to release, and the reasoning was to sync its release with the anime. In other words, they prioritized the anime, tcg, and everything that isn't the games over the games, which is what pokemon is built on. Generation 9 could be amazing if the anime takes a backseat during development and they make game freak focus on the game only. Sword and shield were fun, but had many easily avoidable problems that more time for development would have easily fixed (like the story).
@@bracken8782 Game Freak is partially to blame as well. Their terrible programming and the director's game design philosophy have been exposed through the years. I get your point but GF needs to do something about its team too or else their games will never deliver no matter if they get enough time.
I’m worried that they’ll crap on it. Completely remove the battle frontier, make half completed games and use the half as dlc, and giving up on the quality.
I bet the Sinnoh remakes will only have the Sinnoh dex and will not have a battle frontier. I mean if you look at Sword and Shield and ORAS, that's what they gave us in those games. I don't want a Sinnoh remake because they are very likely to rush it and give us another unfinished product. Sinnoh deserves better.
I personally agree. SwSh seemed extremely rushed. Like there's good threads of a story. It's just it was slow at the beginning and the last like quarter of the game is a huge story info dump. It comes out of no where. But I still also see positives like I enjoy some of the new gen 8 mons and the customization but those are also things that reel people into buying the game. For example, myself. I personally see that Pokémon peaked with gen 4 and 5. Dynamic interesting story, good mons, characters with actual character to them. Yes gen 6 was also pretty good but I probably dont like it because I've played it so many times. To state again, I do agree, we have been lied to.
@@TSPH1992 To my recollection, Pokémon has had annual releases ( in North America anyway ) ever since Platinum came out in 2009, with the only exception being the year 2015 where Pokémon had nothing new except maybe trading cards. Japan on the other hand only started simultaneous annual releases when X and Y made its debut in October 2013. So those of you who think the downward spiral started in the 6th Generation, YOU ARE RIGHT. IT DID.

If gen 9 ends up becoming another cheap cashgrab we need a change in ownership: currently the franchise is owned by pokemon company, which is split between creatures inc., nintendo and GF, a complete takeover by Nintendo would most likely set the franchise on a straight path again.
@@Pikrioling I don't see a takeover coming as Pokemon is owned by Nintendo, Gamefreak and Creatures Inc. Also just because we get a Takeover doesn't mean that future Pokemon games will automatically be good. I remember discovering you years back with your cute charm heartgold playthrough. Figured I'd check in to see what you're up to these days and here we are. Having the same opinion about Pokemon. It's sad it came to this. I'm gonna go on my little rant. I remember when I was young, very young, I played Pokemon. It was magical. I played it all day long. I especially loved black and white. I was still happy with X and Y but the 3d models looked off for me. They didn't quite make it. To me, it was almost a downgrade from gen 5's moving sprites. Got used to them in SUMO. I liked those games past the first hour in fill of god forsaken tutorials. Awful tutorials. It was so bad. Fast forward to gen 8. I remember the announcement. The initial hype. The downfall on twitter. My conflicted opinion. Should I ask for this game? Should I buy it? I didn't know. Eventually I said I wouldn't buy this game because of the lies and how awful this game felt not even having played it. Fast forward when they came out. The child inside me could not shut up about those games. Pokemon has been, as an autistic child, my biggest and longer lasting hyperfixation to this day. Coming back strong each time. And now it came back full force. I wanted those games. I needed them. If I saw people having fun with them I'd cry about it. Because I wanted them so bad. It was also gonna be my first time since black and white (maybe X and Y too I don't remember the time before they got launched tbh) playing blind! Well almost thanks to twitter and friends but. Almost blind still. I ended up buying them in december. At first I loved it. The world felt beautiful and great. I wanted to play more, the cutscene for the starter was amazing! But the unskippable nonsense from Hop and Leon soon got to me. They're so annoying. Sonia too. I started hating the game. The cutscenes and the non existent story and the wild area that just felt like big empty space with the pokemon appearing right in front of you.... I soon stopped having fun. In fact I only finished them about a month ago. By finish I mean I got 8 gym badges. Never progressed to see Leon. I did see the post game thanks to youtubers and holy shit was it bad. It was so bad. I hated every second of it. But then I discovered raid battles thanks to a friend. I had fun again! It was amazing! I was loving it! And a few days later, I stopped loving it. And I haven't touched the games since. I want to play the game sometimes. But I know that if I open it I'll just see emptiness and my disappointment. I won't buy the DLC. My inner child cries a bit because I want to explore the new areas so bad but I won't do it for 30 bucks. If it's half price maybe. We'll see in the future how this plays out. And then I started really thinking about it and I've just learned about home today with your video. And it just makes me sad. This franchise made me so happy. It created bonds, some that never disappeared. I loved those games. I had fun each day and in different ways. I don't have that with pokemon shield. Instead I get sad because of what those games could've been. Should've been. Weren't. I'm not angry either. I was angry at first. But more than angry, I'm sad. Because the pokemon I learned to love isn't there anymore. I still love playing gen 5. In fact I'm replaying black and white, platinum and I'll soon do my first playthrough of Black 2. And I'm excited for them! But I won't buy the next games. Or dlcs. I won't unless my similarly disappointed friends tell me it's great several months after the game launch. And then I won't pay full price. I'm not rich. 60 bucks is expensive. For botw, sure, I'd pay that (even though I paid less), but for games like SwSh? No. I won't. Ever. I'm so sad of what my loved games have become. I agree with your video. I don't want to support a company like that. We'll see what the future holds for pokemon.... I hope it's good. I'll still play the spin offs though. Pokemon cafe mix is fun. PMD deluxe looks dope as well (I can be a male skitty!!! Trans rights!!!!!) And I'm excited for future spin offs. Not main games though. And it's disheartening.

I felt exactly the same way you were with Pokémon. Except mine is with Sonic, and when I left the Sonic fandom after the releases of Rise of Lyric, Lost World, and worst of all, Forces, I was relieved, and gave time to reevaluate and recover mentally. I felt lied to and betrayed with Sonic Forces. I lost friends over my opinion of that half baked trash. Sonic Team promised so much, and they delivered so little, and straight up lied for the most part. And the Sonic community, I honestly don’t wanna hear about the positive side of the community after how I was treated. Once I left the Sonic fandom and stopped supporting the franchise entirely, I never looked back, and never felt better. Almost every time I glimpse any news about Sonic nowadays, I could care less. No worries, no excitement, no disappointment about any announcements, and best of all, no wasting my time to the point of burnout, the same way you were with Pokémon.
Damn, the parallels. What especially burned me about forces is that all their content was done better in much older games. Classic sonic played better before, boost was better before, and the custom hero... Poor man's ratchet and clank, let's be honest. I was salty as fuck. Worst part is that I called it the second classic sonic appears in the first trailer. Repeating something that was successful and making it crash and burn immediately with new problems that wasn't there before. Just like with the darker tones in stories, just like with character flandarizarion of the cast, just like the adventure formula with 06... It's tiring as fuck dude.
I know what you mean, Sonic Forces is definitely the game that got me to just not be excited for new Sonic games anymore. I can still go back to the older games and if they do end up fixing their mistakes I might jump back in, but I'm not getting my hopes high.
Same. I'm not really an Sonic fananic and after Generations; the series started going downhill like it's 2005-2009 for Sonic all over again and somehow made it even worst than what Sonic's been dealing with between 2005-2009 ( With the exception of the Rush Trilogy games. Those are the only good ones.) The only Sonic games that I picked up & really enjoyed is Mania and it was made by an fan of Sonic. I never played Lost World, Boom series or Forces and I know for an fact that I'm not missing much because they were either meh or plain bad and it sucks. I use to love Sonic. But now, I sorta drop off and haven't become an fan of it anymore. I still support it. But I'll take Mega Man, Mario, Crash, Sypro or other mascot platformers over Sonic anyday.
I'm one of those weirdos who actually enjoyed Sun and Moon quite a bit, being enthralled by the increased quality of storytelling and seeing it as a return to form from Gen 6. [Lillie is my favorite human character in the entire series, and I love Lusamine as a villain.] Unfortunately, it was a temporary reprieve from Pokemon's downwards spiral. It is my belief that Pokemon Go's success exacerbated the problem greatly. When Game Freak saw how much they had to gain from not even giving an illusion of a crap, they decided to go down a more mobile game route and choke us all out with micro transactions. It only got worse with the Let's Go games - I had to return Let's Go Eevee after the Pokemon Go style of gameplay ruined the entire thing for me. In this style of gameplay, Pokemon aren't partners, they are objects to be collected. I feel this mirrors the increasing soulessness of Game Freak quite well. I wasn't even the slightest bit interested in Sword/Shield once I started hearing more about it, and it is the first mainline Pokemon game in a long time that I have not purchased. [My decision though was due to what I've perceived to be the style shift of Pokemon designs since Gen 7 - becoming more cartoony and less likeable to me. There's really only one Gen 8 Pokemon I actually like.] As time passes, I only feel more justified in my decision. So basically, I too am on break from newer Pokemon. I'm still playing the old games and liking them just fine, but I'll be watching and waiting to see if things get better. Judging from what I'm seeing, I highly doubt they will. So I suppose I might have to be content with enjoying what Pokemon once was, and trying hard to disassociate the disaster it's become from that. Because honestly, nothing is like Pokemon, and nothing will ever be like Pokemon. The circumstances by which it has become successful and has continued to exist are lightning in a bottle. I have continued to stick with it not just due to monster designs, but the community itself. No other games in the monster genre will take its place, even as it declines. I have no desire to attempt to replicate the experience from a clone of it, only to make new experiences with different things, or to just keep playing the good ones. Everything is destined to end eventually.
To me, sun and moon had a much better story than X and Y. But my favorite game is black and white because of the simplicity of it. It had a good story and has those sprites that give me 2000s nostalgia.
My only problem with Sun and Moon story wise was that they are the only games that don't make you feel like the protagonist. Essentially the whole story is focused on Lilly (not that she herself is bad). It just made me feel as though I wasn't important and just there to fight battles for the main character.
The last Pokemon game was Gold and Silver and then I bought my 3DS and larer bought Sun and Moon and had a blast playing them. To hear that Sun and Moon were terrible makes me want to play old Pokemon games and see what I miss.
I actually liked Gen 7 too. It was concerning that some Pokémon didn’t have pokedex entries (even if they were in the pokedex, like non alola native Pokémon) and was a warning sign for what was to come, now that I see it in hindsight.
I've been playing Pokémon since Gen 3 as a kid. I think Gen 6 and 7 are alright, but I just don't feel like they're as magical compared to the older games. I can still have tons of fun playing through the older games. They feel so polished and fun to play. I had very high hopes for Sword and Shield upon release. Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing New Horizons, and Sonic Mania absolutely revolutionized their series, feeling like absolute breaths of fresh air. But, as the games came closer to coming out and more and more ugly things about the games came to light, I completely lost interest and did not pick them up at launch, which I've been doing since Black and White. It makes me so sad to see all the potential amazing new things that could be done be shoved to the side in favor of things like terrible graphics, more power creep, boring looking Pokémon designs, and the list goes on. Seeing this franchise I've loved for so many years be milked for a quick buck is just... depressing. So depressing. What do you think the yearly rushed Pokémon game will be this holiday season?
Honestly I feel bad for gen 5 since it was hit with so much unfair criticism, they tried to recreate that gen 1 feel of everything being new so there would be some bad designs since they added the most amount of Pokemon out of any game, and the Pokemon that are good are really cool, I think gen 5 was the most ambitious, it had a nice region, a focus on plot, animated sprites, full body backsprites and a lot more, I wouldn’t call it a cash grab at all since they tried something different.
And the thing about the franchise being milked for a quick buck, I can agree with that but games before gen 5 I can see as also being milked because of third versions which are literally copies and pastes of the first two with a few extra things added.
"Seeing this franchise I've loved for so many years be milked for a quick buck is just... depressing. So depressing." I know this not much, but I hope this hug make you feel better a little.🤗

@@mjdxp5688 I don't blame you. I too feel that the Pokémon team is being too safe and lazy with their games. It's also sad that sword and shield couldn't have a full open world. If they wanted to they could of ask Monolith Soft to help them with their world design like the Zelda team did for breath of the wild, but they did it themselves and went the lazy route, just like everything else in these two games. Also speaking about those Pokémon rom hacks you like, the sad part is like you said the Pokémon mod games do more for content than the official developers do in their own games, but they and Nintendo will do anything in their power to cancel those fan projects. GameFreak were awesome at their sprite animation. In fact, I'd hasten to say that the sprites gave them their incredible charm. That was definitely lost with the transition to 3D. I would sacrifice my wallet to get a Pokemon Black/White remake in the graphical style of Octopath Traveller. Absolute eye candy...
I'm sorry. But as much as I love Gen. 5; it really DOESN'T need an remake. After this SWSH debacle, if Sinnoh isn’t anywhere near as good as its original and is just a re-skin of SWSH, then I’m done buying any new main series Pokémon game. I’ll probably stay with just the Mystery Dungeon series because at least it’s remake was simply a nice remake without a loss in quality.
I still haven't bought Sword or Shield, lmao. Instead, my brother and I split the cost to buy him a copy of Soulsilver so we could replay what made our childhood. I still have my copy of Heartgold and the Pokewalker so it works out :)
I think this whole strategy of “monetize at every opportunity,” is not a sustainable business strategy and it will harm their sales in the long term. A large portion of the people who bought sw/sh are players who wanted to revisit the series after many years of not playing. Just think, how many people have you seen online that are disappointed in sw/sh and regret buying it. I have no doubt that each subsequent generation will sell significantly worse than the previous entry until gamefreak decides to make some major changes.

Only reason they're making you charge more for the games, the DLC, and Home's premium is because they KNEW they wouldn't make enough to pump out more garbage for next year. @@Its_Asteria Actually those numbers are are just gross overall income. They're not from sales alone. Most of the money they made was from the DLCs, Home, Home's premium, and the other assortment of crap that came with Gen VIII. Believe it or not, sales alone is at an all time low for them. All these other things is solely the reason why GrameFreak's made any money on it.
I'm only giving Gamefreak 1 more chance. Gen 9, they have to do something huge to keep me in the franchise. I think they are under staffed. I also think they have done some scummy business practices lately. I just hope this will be the Disney Dark age for them and soon be a Renaissance right after being gen 9. I heard a rumor that the BOTW team is going to handle the gen 9 over worlds so I hope that's true. That would probably give Gamefreak time to work on other aspects to improve the player's experience. If they don't fix it by gen 9, I'm moving to Kindred Fates.
As of today it's been announced that GameFreak has moved their HQ to the same building where Nintendo has built some new offices, so they'll be able to work a lot closer now. GF's new offices are looking pretty nice too. Fingers crossed.
People have been giving them chances since Gen 6, not sure why you’re giving them more when they’re guaranteed to disappoint. The sales numbers prove that they don’t have to try anymore. Expect Gen 9 to be even worse.
@@pikachufrankie Even though Im not a fan of gen 6, I think it was a lot of work for them at the time. They were basically making 3d models for 721 Pokemon and made new and remixed the cries for those Pokemon. I think they should of made the jump in gen 7 because there wasn't really anything thats sounds like a lot of work besides getting rid of the grid system for more realistic areas. I heard that gen 8 was originally going to be 3ds games just in case the nintendo switch flopped. If this is true, they could of had optimization issues porting the whole engine to work on the switch. With the dlc, I think Gamefreak proved they can make big areas in 1 year. I think Gamefreak has no restrictions now for gen 9. Usually with each gen, it's made with a new engine and the next gen would probably be built on the switch in mind. Look at gen 5. It runs and looks better then gen 4. I can at least see gen 9 looking and run better.
@@captndingpot3981 It's a triple A company, a lot of companies already make hundreds of models for their games without compromising the quality of the models, such as Digimon games. There's a reason why Pokemon never wins GOTY, they are just bad at quality control. They might as well go the Konami route and exploit their business practices with Pachinko machines.
@@valletas they took 6 entries to add something that was in mainline since the NES, its like a slow child of SMT in terms od learning, also, if you extract the demons, you don´t have much "persona" , so the only thing that separates the 2 are the fanbase and Atlus Marketting
I stop playing Pokemon after Gen. 5; both Black & White and Black 2 & White 2, because I was burnt out. I don't know how well the 3D ones were. But if Gen. 5 was my last gen to play, than I say that it was an absolute blast and an big bang to end my Pokemon journey.
Pokèmon Black was the last game I played in 2011. After beating it, I threw in the towel and gave up on the newer ones. I only play the old ones now and the romhacks.
I understand completely why you made this decision. There are a menagerie of problems with this game(Sword n Shield are basically the same game) If you disagree, I recommend Radicalsoda's 3 episodes in an in-depth negative review of the game. Other games, like MHW, Smash Ultimate, etc. just make Pokemon Sword/Shield look cheap. I want to see a Pokemon game that is excellent quality, has excellent mechanics, excellent story, excellent pokemon designs, excellent player to player interface, and most importantly an excellent company that makes the game. Gamefreak is the opposite of that.
After sword and shield released I knew I wasn't getting it. Now I'm never buying a mainline pokemon game again. At least until they've proven that they'll do better.
I agree! The fact that Game Freak lied and betrayed our trust was the turning point for me! And seeing how the game turned out, as well as their overpriced DLC, I have no regrets! If THIS is what Game Freak will consider the new "standard" for the series, then I'm done! I don't want to be a fan of Pokemon anymore! And I jumped ship before, then jumped back on for HGSS! Now, I'm officially done! >.
There are better alternatives out there who provide the full experience. Besides Digimon Survive is coming to the Switch in 2021 (The developers at Bandai had to delay the release. And that's fine by me. I rather buy a good product that has been delayed multiple times than something rushed)
Moving forward Pokémon needs to put in more effort. Either put in full voice acting or take out the hand holdy “cut scenes”. Give Pokémon more expressive animations in battle like they had in Pokémon black and white instead of the dead boring idle animations they have. Let us explore like the old games instead of the boring linear routes of gen7/8. And for the love of god no blatantly clear pop in
For me, the moment the series went 3D was the start of the decline. It’s only gotten worse as a whole. So sad to say that since I’ve played every sing one. Gen 8 was the only one I just couldn’t finish. I just didn’t have the motivation any more
Cool video, i agreed with everything you said, but you should probably take this down and do a quick reupload without that extra 20 minutes of black screen and silent gameplay footage at the end. Was that an editing error?
Recently finished Sword and I agree with your points. Something that's stood out to me recently, was that after getting to the league I always like to go back and revisit the towns to pick up any items I've missed including TM's, and chat to the NPC's, just chill out enjoying the scenery before the big finale. But with Shield I ventured through one town and it was tedious. For the insane number of NPC's barely any of them had anything interesting or useful to say. I could not be bothered to venture into every house after the first 5 just had people sprouting dull unimportant nothing-ness. And all the furniture was identical so there was nothing interesting to look at. They really went for quantity over quality and I wish more of the unimportant NPC's had those speech bubbles which appear when you get close rather than you handing to speak to them directly, to let you know it wasn't worth interacting with them.
I agree with you completely, they need to take stuff from gen 5 and 4, and implement it in the 3d style they have right now. Like the music, and an actual story unlike the rushed story sword and shield have. And we have no new shiny hunting method, like chain fishing in gen 6, S.O.S encounters in gen 7, and pokemon chaining in Let's Go. All we have is the Masuda method and random encounters. That could help a lot, and they made overworld models for every pokemon but made no pokemon following you outside the DLC and wild area, but in let's go pokemon followed you everywhere.
I stop playing usum before facing Lusamine to try sword. I stopped playing sword after defeating Gordie. Now I return to playing platinum and b+b2 later.
The amount of people that acknowledged those problems and still bought the game day 1 is scaring me. Will those people also be ok if GF starts to sell, lets say, Shiny mons for real money in a seperate shop? Will they still defend this company and put their money into them?
there's people on ebay already doing that, if GF discover that it works and makes a lot of money... well... I betcha they'll do it and those people will buy them too
I just really want them to take their damn times. From gen 1- gen 5 it was so amazing but then when Gen 6-8 came in, it just didn't have the exciting spark in it anymore. The evil teams weren't so much as evil teams. Gen 8's evil team was literally just a fanclub, which I still find cute. The games are just so short now-a-days. Gen 5, in my opinion, was the peak of pokemon. Through out the game, they only had that regions pokemon, no other pokemon from past regions which was amazing! The game was so dark and it just adsorbed you. The music was amazing and just wow, the story was amazing, rivals, characters. Nothing could ever replace that excitement I felt while playing the gen 5 games. Now a days, the newer games are just so bland and ehhh... the music is nice, yes, but where it the challenge? It's so easy to defeat the pokemon trainers and elite four and champions. Like Gen 6, what... what happened? It was so easy. Now Gen 5 and 4 were very much a challenge... damn, I miss when they actually took their time and made it exciting. As much as I'm disappointed, I can never let go of Pokemon as it is my childhood and it's just rather hard to let go of such fun I've had when I was younger. I hope they step up their game and actually make something that isn't a damn disappointment.
Ive never been a hardcore Pokémon fan, my first Pokémon game that I played was soul silver, but even then I borrowed it from a friend and got maybe 30 minutes into the game. So i never really got into the series, but when sword and sheild came out i legit wanted to try it. I played it, beat it and felt like something was missing. So even as someone who doesn’t really play Pokémon all that much, i can say, this was honestly the laziest Pokémon game that i have ever played.
You hit it perfectly. Looking back wow did we brush off Gen 5... sucks that it's like this now. We should encourage nostalgic parents to gift kids old games with reminding them that they got enjoyment from those games rather than the new ones.
Which is sad because Gen. 5 was the one time that Game Freak put alot of effort and heart & souls ( no pun attended ) into the franchise that they care for. Yet, fans doesn't like the direction it was going.
SwSh sold like crazy so forget about this franchise showing good innovations. Thr message is loud and clear. As long as it has the Pokemon label, the bare minimum will do wonders. The fans fucking deserved to be milked to death at this point.
Jumping on that Digimon train myself. Digimon made better 3D games in 2016 for the Playstation 4 with voice acting, THREE Digimon following you at all times, amazing 3D models for your tamer, an actual ADULT story line, and just a shit ton of content. If Pokemon can't do that 4-5 years later then they DESERVE to be left in the dust.
I really hate how this happened when we finally got a region in Scotland/Europe-in-general, it could have waited another gen or two before going off the path- I don't really understand why Let's Go looks so nice? I mean, maybe it was done by the A-team while Sword/Shield was by the B-team? Or maybe they were just worn down after having just made Let's Go? It just looked so nice in comparison and wow I wish Galar came after Kalos or something. X/Y was where they jumped to 3DS and everything was so good? At least, I thought it was actually pretty immersive...
I enjoy playing LEGOEP because it's still fun and if you're not paying attention you can actually make it more challenging for yourself, like I did. The fact that you can challenge gym leaders again makes it more appealing to me.
@@Openreality There was a review or something that said Let's Go was "a walk in the park", and I know they meant as in the difficulty, but gooossshh it's such a nice park
If you want a good console Pokemon game, try Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness. They're great, and the Pokemon actually have neat animations. For example, when Roselia gets hit, it puts its petal hands on its hips and glares, before strutting back to its spot. That's what's really missing from the new 3d games. Personality.
Why is it that most UA-camrs I usually see with the best opinions when it comes to Pokemon, have the least subs? Anyway, I definitely agree with everything you said! Me personally I never cared much for Pokemon games aside from the spin-offs like Mystery Dungeon and Pokken Tournament. I actually won Pokemon Sword from a giveaway and I've been hooked on it ever since and it's the first mainline game I ever played. Sure it's not perfect, but it's the most fun I ever had with a Pokemon game and it's currently my most played game (over 2K+ hours) of 2019 and 2020 even beating my playtime in Smash! Oh and almost done with my first ever shiny dex!😁
So happy to hear people are walking away from Pokemon, there's no shame in realising the franchise isn't the one you once loved. I cashed out halfway through playing SM and have since realised how well the Gen 4 and 5 games have aged. Currently playing B2!
100% agree. So long, and thanks for the memories, Game Freak. Someone let me know when the main series is no longer just cashing in on the Pokémon name.
They should just make One main console pokemon that they focus on and Really develop as a AAA. Open world routes, caves, ocean travel etc. Give the player the ability to climb trees, small rocky mountains, dive under water with/without pokemon, level up those specific skills: climbing, swimming, stamina, tracking. Not too many skills but just a handful. Towns and cities are similar to large/small/medium hub centers. Let the player chose their age and height for the character. Dialouge choices with every npc that could reveal hidden secrets, items, areas and be given several small quests from random nurse joys at the PC that could result in a pokemon egg. Dlcs could be amazing if they evolved from two similar version games and into just One mainline pokemon Journey game. So much missed potential. Moon was the last game I purchased.

I have preferred the Spin-offs since Pokemon Colosseum. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 has the best story in the franchise. And Pokken is a great fighter that looks so close to how I imagined the anime fights.
Pokémon is honestly part of the reason I’ve been drifting away from Nintendo and more towards Sony. I want a good JRPG damnit. Xenoblade is fantastic and all, but that’s kinda the only other exclusive they have.
It's also kinda sad that a Xbox Series S/X can play more Pokemon games and Nintendo JRPGs than the Switch because of the emulation. Nintendo should have capitalized on emulation a long time ago.
I bought shield. I had fun with it but it was massively disappointing. It felt like buying one piece of store-brand beef jerky for the price of a filet mignon steak.
Ya, even all these months later..... I still regret buying both games with both dlc packs like a moron. They were my first main line Pokemon game as a new fan and I had fun.... My first time through. Then I played every game from gen 3 to 5 and went back and felt my heart sink.
I'd say just play Gen2-5 since RBGY are quite bad (can't blame GF this time, is just GameBoy capacity.) GSC, RSE, FRLG, DPPT, HGSS, BW BW2 are the best games as of now. Yes even FRLG which some people say they were unnecessary, but they fixed tons of glitches and introduced the Sevii island. Also Spin-Offs are great, Mystery Dungeon and Ranger series. I haven't played any of the Colosseum games nor Battle Revolution.
A list of pokemon games/spinoff series people should play Gen 2 Gen 3 Gen 4 Gen 5 Gale of darkness (if you can) Colosseum Stadium Conquest Mystery dungeon Ranger Snap too if you're so inclined Perso- wait no wrong series
They also need to go back to the art style and color of the first few gens. With the sharper edges and more monster looking Pokémon. Enough with the Pokémon who look like furrys or grown men in costumes. I mean I understand we got mr mime etc in the first gen but it wasn’t nearly as wide spread and they weren’t overly designed and childish looking. When I was a kid I liked monsters and dragons and dinosaurs and that’s exactly what the first few gens were. But look at these new starter Pokémon. Absolutely horrible design. Hate them.
The DLC killed it for me. Never felt so cheated, betrayed and stupid. I simply cannot find joy in thesd games anymore. I am done wasting money on those games
Started from gen 1 in gameboy color days, sad to see where this game has ended up pokemon sword and shield was stupidly short and then release a DLC for more money as if the game wasn't expensive enough
Yes!!! People especially the older fans need to Protest Pokémon. If people can stop buying the newest Pokémon game, GameFreak will have no choice but to get their head out of their ass and actually try to make a good game.
I've tried for like 5 years and I have up Maybe since more and more people are feeling negative about the series I can spark up some care and protest again
The newer games aren't as good as gens 1-5, but there were some good things about them. I liked the lore of x and y, the story of sun and moon, and the music of sword and shield.
I completely understand where you are coming from. I was just thinking about what it could have been if gamefreak could have just put a little bit more thought into their last few games. I am especially concerned because Smash Ultimate has better models for the Pokémon than gamefreak. I also agree that Pokémon bank and home are just another way that they are trying to be paid for something that was originally free. I was planning the same thing you are doing after the inevitable Diamond and Pearl remakes to see if they can still make a good Pokémon game. To end this I just want to say I am excited to see what games you play to fill in that gap. I personally would recommend Fossil Fighters for the DS as a game you should look into playing. I also wouldn’t be against more Smash related content
None as egregious as gamefreak tho. They have legit stopped trying to test how much money they can charge for as little effort as possible. In 2027 we'll probably be paying 50 bucks for the box alone
Pokemon GO and Detective Pikachu ( the movie ) actually damaged the franchise! They were the reasons the Gen 8 games were so Gen 1 focused and WAY too kid friendly which is what led to the making and release of the Let's Go Gen 1 remakes and eventually the recent disasterpieces!!!
Dang.. this video convinced me that either Gamefreak or Nintendo is straight up evil... that hurts cuz I’m a 90’s baby and remember the joy this series brought to me and my cousins when we were little
The people working there change. Some of the earlier games were done with under 100 workers with a lot of love and passion. The newer games have thousands of workers and the new-er directors don't care much anymore.
I used to defend the gen 8 games but seeing the starter evolutions, some pokemon designs, the extremely basic gameplay and the dlc that feesl like a cash grab safe to say i was knocked out of my stupor
Yep and thats the major issue. Kids and diehard fans are plenty and too many and don't want to see it for anything other than "Pokémon the best!" So they will be in a continuous cycle of milking money from parents kids and diehard fans and just continue to make botched Pokémon games.
Better late than never to realize that all companies, including game companies, will churn out complete garbage for a dollar if they know they can get away with it.
The rumored Sinnoh games is what’s gonna make it or break it for me. I was one of those people who bought both games, both dlc’s and the yearly home subscription. I wasn’t too disappointed in Gen 7, a little more with Gen 6, but Gen 8 is what has me fuming. 😡 I’ve been around since the original Gen 1 games, owned and played EVERY mainline game, used to play the TCG back in the old days, and more, but seeing what’s been happening just within these last couple of years had me questioning everything I’ve felt about the franchise. Their next set of games will be the deciding factor for me...I used to be proud to support the franchise and enjoyed it with little concern. Now, after investing so many years, and SO. MUCH. of my own money, I am ready to walk away. And as a dad, I will not allow my children to go through this with Pokémon. I will not buy these games for them, KNOWING what this franchise is all about now. They will lose a former lifetime fan and PAYING CONSUMER...AND they will lose out on NEW ONES. I’m glad I’ve found this video. I really needed a place to voice all of this, and this was the perfect video to help me type out these words. Thank you.
My love of Pokémon died when I saw the creators literally say they ignore fan submissions of Pokémon ideas. They’re cold and the recent games are garbage. So I moved on. Gen 3 was magical. Everything else is whatever wish they kept making product like that but they don’t
Not disagreeing with you but if they dont ignore then fans then they can sue them in the future for stolen ideas This is unlikey but has happened in the past with the comics industry so now its industry standard to not even open fan letters and emails
Yep. Yep, yep, yep. I've been a Pokémon fan ever since Pokemon Colosseum came out. I played all of the games from the main series up until Sun and Moon and then I just stopped. My interests did change over the years, and I don't play as many video games as I used to, but even I realised that Sun and Moon felt forced. When I heard about Sword and Shield being released, I was on the verge of getting a Switch just for this game, but in the end, I was just... Disappointed. The main thing that made me reconsider was the size of big Pokemon like Wailord ending up looking no taller than 6 feet tall. Almost as if the most important thing in a game about catching, training and caring about creatures was the said creatures... Anyways, I probably won't be buying a Switch anytime soon, now, especially since the Sinnoh remakes have been announced and look quite unappealing to me. (Which breaks my heart since Diamond was my first main game.) I remain hopeful but pessimistic.
What is sad for Pokémon, is for a triple A franchise, they never did or will do, most likely, a triple A game. The video entitled "style over substance" P5, I think applies more to modern FF, than Persona. While in Pokémon case is worst, no style or even substance. But quick crash grabs, like the 4gen remakes will be. To me FFXVI is basically FFXV with a lotr skin. Honestly, from my experience, I enjoyed more FFXIII and FF7R, than FFXV. And Yakuza is a shenmue type of game, done well. Is a good compromise between open world and linearity. Is your choice, either play the story, or explore the city and do the hilarious side stories. And also a good mix, between sober and heartbreaking moments and the wacky and humorous moments. That's also the appeal of Persona games. And Pokémon and modern FF, lack that, while in FF, they had that, but nowadays, they lack that.

Totally agree! Also, imagine a remake of Black/White in the style of Octopath Traveler. That would look WAY better than a 3D game.
I was happy with gen 6 and how everything looked, gen 6 was honestly good enough I can't stan 7 or 8
I agree with what you said about 3D and sprites.

"cuts to previous features"
I think part of this problem is that having a continuous development pipeline doesn't really give them an opportunity to reflect on what actually worked for the players and what didn't, what to keep and what to change.
Idk, gen 7 has the best story, a bunch of quality of life changes, and a large amount of side quests. It really is only held back by the Ultra games being a step back from the last follow up games... oh and the festival plaza *shivers*

SW/SH is good for a DS game, problem is we aren’t on DS anymore
Yeah, and it has some problems like the story. Atleast we wouldnt see the cursor on the end credits on the ds
Even then it still has less content than platinum and the gen 5 games
Which makes sense; I believe SW/SH entered production as a 3DS game, before being turned round mid-development onto the Switch.

With all the money they've been rolling in, sinnoh remakes better be real fkin good
Look at the state of gamefreak. We can only hope for a subpar 3d version with removed features left and right.
I’m worried that they’ll crap on it. Completely remove the battle frontier, make half completed games and use the half as dlc, and giving up on the quality.
@@yourheroes5874 what I'm expecting myself
Just dont get your hopes up i can already see the n64 tree commig back in the reveal trailer XD
If TPC didn't push for annual releases this wouldn't have happened
@@TSPH1992 To my recollection, Pokémon has had annual releases ( in North America anyway ) ever since Platinum came out in 2009, with the only exception being the year 2015 where Pokémon had nothing new except maybe trading cards. Japan on the other hand only started simultaneous annual releases when X and Y made its debut in October 2013. So those of you who think the downward spiral started in the 6th Generation, YOU ARE RIGHT. IT DID.
No the story was the worst of any game. The dialogue was garbage and so uninteresting.
It wasn't rushed. Gamefreak simply refuses to expand the team to what the franchise deserves.

If gen 9 ends up becoming another cheap cashgrab we need a change in ownership: currently the franchise is owned by pokemon company, which is split between creatures inc., nintendo and GF, a complete takeover by Nintendo would most likely set the franchise on a straight path again.
Wishful thinking.

I can still go back to the older games and if they do end up fixing their mistakes I might jump back in, but I'm not getting my hopes high.
ye, the fandom is absolute garbage, and so is forces.
but Mania slaps tho
you at least ae happy for those who can enjoy these games then?
Same I really enjoyed sun moon, sw/sh felt like an extremely rushed game, luckily I played on my friend's switch so I didn't buy it
The last Pokemon game was Gold and Silver and then I bought my 3DS and larer bought Sun and Moon and had a blast playing them.

I'm only giving Gamefreak 1 more chance. Gen 9, they have to do something huge to keep me in the franchise. I think they are under staffed. @@pikachufrankie Even though Im not a fan of gen 6, I think it was a lot of work for them at the time.
You stopped playing at the right moment. Everything started going downhill on gen 6
Same
Same till all Pokémon can be transferred in the main games again.
I'm a simple man. I hear Colosseum music, I hit like.
They’re gonna use the hype for DP remakes to get people to buy it, just for it to be a Sw/Sh 2.0 with Dynamax and 400 Pokémon. Again.

And for the love of god no blatantly clear pop in
*Hop
There fixed it
I don't want "hand goldy" cutscenes even WITH voice acting
And stop pushing for annual releases
For me, the moment the series went 3D was the start of the decline. It’s only gotten worse as a whole. So sad to say that since I’ve played every sing one. Gen 8 was the only one I just couldn’t finish. I just didn’t have the motivation any more
Cool video, i agreed with everything you said, but you should probably take this down and do a quick reupload without that extra 20 minutes of black screen and silent gameplay footage at the end. Was that an editing error?
didn't realize it did that. should be edited out now
Catching Poke'mon is like taking a hit of crack. I don't think I'll be able to stop, even when its an awful experience.
Same i know the games are trash but i like Pokemon as a franchise
USUM is at least good but nothing compared to Gen 4 and 5
The amount of people that acknowledged those problems and still bought the game day 1 is scaring me. Will those people also be ok if GF starts to sell, lets say, Shiny mons for real money in a seperate shop? Will they still defend this company and put their money into them?
I wouldn't put it passed the Pokémon Company
there's people on ebay already doing that, if GF discover that it works and makes a lot of money... well... I betcha they'll do it and those people will buy them too
Pokemon go is doing it now locking shiny mew behind 12$ paywall

I totally agree.
I'm ok with paying for expansions. I'm not ok with paying for pokemom home, pokemon bank, and nintendo online to be able to trade pokemon.
I guess pokemon company had no control over nintendo online which is another scam imo, online on the 3ds was good enough.

Yikes...
Yeah, Soulsilver and Heartgold had way more, well, *heart and soul* (haha) put into them.
That says a lot
You hit it perfectly. Looking back wow did we brush off Gen 5... sucks that it's like this now. We should encourage nostalgic parents to gift kids old games with reminding them that they got enjoyment from those games rather than the new ones.
Which is sad because Gen. 5 was the one time that Game Freak put alot of effort and heart & souls ( no pun attended ) into the franchise that they care for. Yet, fans doesn't like the direction it was going.
Gen 5 is my favorite gen! So many memories playing those games! I hardly have the same memories for the later gens, much less this one!
-_-
SwSh sold like crazy so forget about this franchise showing good innovations. Thr message is loud and clear. As long as it has the Pokemon label, the bare minimum will do wonders. The fans fucking deserved to be milked to death at this point.
I... LOVE the new Digimon games! They deserve more recognition!
That's because Bandai Namco knows what they are doing
@@TSPH1992 yeah, Nintendo has really messed up
Our greatest danger for reaching success is not that we aim to high and miss, but rather we aim too low and succeed.
I really hate how this happened when we finally got a region in Scotland/Europe-in-general, it could have waited another gen or two before going off the path-
I don't really understand why Let's Go looks so nice? I mean, maybe it was done by the A-team while Sword/Shield was by the B-team? Or maybe they were just worn down after having just made Let's Go? It just looked so nice in comparison and wow I wish Galar came after Kalos or something. X/Y was where they jumped to 3DS and everything was so good? At least, I thought it was actually pretty immersive...
I enjoy playing LEGOEP because it's still fun and if you're not paying attention you can actually make it more challenging for yourself, like I did. The fact that you can challenge gym leaders again makes it more appealing to me.

If you want a good console Pokemon game, try Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness. They're great, and the Pokemon actually have neat animations. For example, when Roselia gets hit, it puts its petal hands on its hips and glares, before strutting back to its spot.

Because they are kids, rat kids. We the ones whom grew up with Pokemon have been torn apart by the franchise.

I have GIVEN UP on Pokemon, but I don't think I can ever quit it. Gen I-V is too damn special for me to ever quit playing them
Man, i just want to have fun with a Pokemon game again

I'd say just play Gen2-5 since RBGY are quite bad (can't blame GF this time, is just GameBoy capacity.)
GSC, RSE, FRLG, DPPT, HGSS, BW BW2 are the best games as of now. Yes even FRLG which some people say they were unnecessary, but they fixed tons of glitches and introduced the Sevii island.

I gave up on this franchise right when they released oras
xy was forgivable because it was the first 3d game
Yes!!! People especially the older fans need to Protest Pokémon. If people can stop buying the newest Pokémon game, GameFreak will have no choice but to get their head out of their ass and actually try to make a good game.
I've tried for like 5 years and I have up
Maybe since more and more people are feeling negative about the series I can spark up some care and protest again
Well I’m an Og fan and I gave up after they released sword and shield the new fans enjoy mediocre content I guess.
The newer games aren't as good as gens 1-5, but there were some good things about them. I liked the lore of x and y, the story of sun and moon, and the music of sword and shield.
Loved the music of sm absolutely hated the music of usum (IT DOESNT FIT WHY CHANGE IT?)
Sun and Moon was such a good Pokémon game. Shocking to think a 3DS game is better than SwSh on the Switch, lol.
The worst thing is that its always gonna be like that beacuse kids nowadays have grown thinking DLCs are normal

You got my attention, sir.
when companies realise they dont have to try anymore, they ruin their own franchise with greed.
I franchise is evil because they want to collect more money, interesting
What disappoints me most is that no one cares. All the bad publicity and hashtags in the world aren't going to matter if it sells 20 million units.
I used to defend the gen 8 games but seeing the starter evolutions, some pokemon designs, the extremely basic gameplay and the dlc that feesl like a cash grab safe to say i was knocked out of my stupor
Agreed but Don't disrespect Cinderace like that
Sword and shield sold so well I doubt they’ll change anything
Thank you.

(Which breaks my heart since Diamond was my first main game.)
I remain hopeful but pessimistic.
Funny you mention P5 because I stopped playing pokemon to play Persona
