    Watching a clip at 30fps is much different than holding a controller and playing at 30fps. Its more of the way it feels, not necessarily the way it looks. 30fps is most of the time a complete deal-breaker for me.

      For me it depends on what type of game it is. I think some games can work with 30 FPS just fine but when it comes to shooters like a cod or doom yea it’s gotta be 60 or it feels like you’re stuck in mud when you move around. Or like certain character action games such as devil may cry those games feel so good at 60. But on the other hand if I look at something like resident evil 2 remake I don’t necessarily need 60 FPS for a game like that, 30 feels fine to me so it just depends. It’s also about what you are personally used to. Let’s say you have a nice setup with a 144hz monitor and play most all games at 120 FPS or above then yea I could see how 30 would feel unplayable after that

      30fps done right with correct frame-pacing and double-buffer VSYNC with low input-latency feels great. I'll take it over highly inconsistent 60fps with stutters every second, a mountain ridge for a frame-pacing graph and a resolution of 450p upscaled to 1440p. Bottom line: Developers have to put actual work to make their games feel good to play.

      Agreed. I've been a laptop gamer before, and was always at 30FPS but after grad and get enough money for a high-end PC, it's only natural to ask for 60FPS. You've spent time and effort to save up money and play a game on a good PC. Anything that's lower than 30FPS isn't a big deal to me, but it definitely felt lacking.

    • @LukeLeafOnline
      @LukeLeafOnline 2 місяці тому +3

      Absolutely agree, going back to 30 genuinely does feel unplayable. For me what's ideal is having most games run at 60 & any competitive games at 120. The difference between 60 & 120 is noticeable when you jump between the two but it's a far smaller gap than 30 to 60. I wonder if a lot of the people that are perfectly comfortable with 30 are just people stuck on console, because aiming or just moving the camera around with a thumbstick is usually a lot slower and smoother than aiming with a mouse. Mouse aiming is more erratic & fast & sharp and when you're flicking around, 30 is simply unacceptable.

    Performance matters more than graphics. I wouldn't mind games being 1080p but I want 60fps minimum. You can tolerate low graphics but low performance/laggy performance can literally make a game unplayable & frustrating even if its a good game.

      @@tyler-hp7oqcan the PS5/Xbox actually run 4k with 60fps? No. It makes you choose between graphics & performance mode. Not a single "next gen" game you are talking about can run 4k60fps on consoles. Not even one.
      So my comment was actually about that issue. If I have to choose between two, then I will always choose Performance over graphics. And if games can't even give me 60fps despite making me choose between graphics & performance, then guess what? F*** that game.
      It's not like I want worse graphics. If I can get both, I would take both. But the reality is right now many so called "next gen" games make you choose between graphics & performance & they are not delivering on the performance front at all. Uncapped 30fps, seriously?

    • @tyler-hp7oq
      @tyler-hp7oq 2 місяці тому +2

      @@ShinjiIkari007 Do you not understand hardware limitations? Consoles will always be pushed to their limits in one direction. Either performance or graphics. You can't have one without the cost of the other. Any game that actually decides to push the scope of what's possible will limit the game to 30fps on console. That's why games like GTA6 will definitely be 30fps. If you're someone who only cares about performance then don't cry about games this generation not being next-gen. In terms of performance, you are already getting tons of next-gen games with 60fps modes. Saying you want the best possible graphics and 60fps on consoles shows you have zero understanding.

How I know that is I've played a game numerous times on a console, which was 30 fps, then played it again on a PC and I didn't know there were things that were there. The higher frame rate on the PC helped. But being able to turn off motion blur and depth of field helped as well. And yes, lets not forget depth of field. I started saying this years ago, the push for 4K was gonna be highly detrimental to the industry and here we are. For rasterization media 4K absolutely should not be the standard if it means sacrificing actual graphical fidelity and performance.
    The difference between frame rates gets less noticeable as you go higher up because of the frame timing. It's diminishing returns. The frame time between 30 and 60 fps is 16ms, but from 60 to 120 it's only 8ms

    Majority of people cannot FACTUALLY tell the difference from 30 to 60 FPS. Most gamers feel a difference then SEE it. You're eyes can't even process 120 fps, but our brain feels a difference and that's why plenty of us get headaches with fps that high.

    • @calculator91

      Totally false. Most people can tell the difference just by looking. A good example is television recorded with the "soap opera effect" which is just motion interpolation from 24 fps to 60 fps. Almost anyone will pick up on it.

    I started gaming on PC so I started with 60FPS and If I play something at 30 fps for more than 10 minutes I get headache and motion sickness.
    Having a 240hz monitor from 60fps to 120fps is also substantial shift and a welcoming one gameplay becomes buttery smooth.
    However going to 120 to 240fps the smoothness increase is noticeable, but its not a substantial shift as this needs my PC to work twice as hard.

    Honestly… I used to think I’d be unable to play games at 30 fps, and for the most part I still do - on a monitor. When I’m up close, it makes me motionsick. But if I’m further away, even if the screen is larger and takes up the same percentage of my view, I’m largely fine with it as long as it’s stable. If frame times are all over the place and there’s spikes and all sorts of anomalies, then it’s problematic, aiming is more difficult at 30, but that’s about it. I vastly prefer 60, but 4k is just sooo KRISP it hits different.

I think Ghost of Tshuimina 2, Unchartered 5, GTA6 will do that- just will come late gen. And that will probably happen from now on- all these transformative games coming late in the new console gen.

However- I recently decided to start and finish an old AC game, sucked at first but then my eyes adjusted and 30 is fine for me now. I would rather play a game at a locked down 30fps than a shaky 60fps with frequent drops or stutters. I have also found that, as I’ve gotten older I care more about image quality than I used to.
    I don’t like jagged edges, I don’t like fuzzy or patchy textures or upscale ghosting. These issues are usually best solved by upping settings and or resolution. This usually means playing at 40 or even 30fps sometimes so I can actually enjoy what I’m looking at, and I’m okay with that. I will say however I do prefer high fps 120+ in shooters.

    1440p at 60 is what every game should target. I think that would give the most room for players to adjust to their liking based on their setup. Then if someone has a 4k tv with VRR they can play at 4k 45 fps without it looking choppy. However, of they're rocking a 1080p 144hz monitor they can adjust the resolution down for the extra fps.

    I honestly like both
    As someone who appreciates the classic 80,90s era of games and obviously the current day 2000s to now era
    I don't necessarily see the issue,I prefer something functional or at the least enjoyable.
    Personally 30fps is fine for cinematic styled games
    And 60fps or higher for true competitive/pvp games seems logical.
    Both are playable and nowhere near as bad as the games from the ps3,360 era that were mostly inconsistent with the 20-30fps range.
    In the end,I believe player choice is the best option for all,I have never heard of a person getting mad because devs gave them choices for their visual/audio options,so clearly the majority of players like that

    Exception would be games where high frame rate doesnt matter as much like persona. I would rather get 4k30 vs 1080p60 there. The trick is not to go back and forth because your eyes need to adjust.
