The man hanging in the cellar was on the missing poster on the side of the milk carton that Kid was drinking from. His vw beetle car was the one in the lake.
At the end, when TBR asked Samantha "Whadya think?", I was hoping she was gonna say, "That was one goddamn f'd up horror picture!" 😂 Can we all take a moment to acknowledge Samantha's unbelievably gorgeous head of hair! 😍😍😍
The day after X (2022)'s South by Southwest premiere, writer/director Ti West revealed that during a mandatory two-week COVID-19 quarantine in his New Zealand hotel, before production could begin on this film, he wrote a prequel, Pearl (2022). A24 saw the script and greenlit the movie even before production on "X" had wrapped. He asked star Mia Goth if she wished to remain in New Zealand and film "Pearl," and she readily accepted. The prequel released later in 2022.
Ti West has always been a favorite of mine when I was a young cinephile getting into indie films. His career was in a bit of a bad place for several years before X, but once he made it, it was like he was completely rejuvenated. It wears its influences on its sleeve, but my goodness the way this story unfolds is TOTALLY wild and unexpected.
To even out the the replies lol X is pretty easily my favorite of the franchise. Diminishing returns with Pearl and then Maxine. I still enjoyed them, just not as much.
You might've been trying to think of the word "underestimated". They underestimated the old couples ability to be cold blooded and calculated killers. I could be wrong, but that's what came to mind for me.
Great reaction & discussion after, always love the effort you put in. Pearl is personally my favourite of the 3 films (the acting really should have won awards imo) but each is very different in style & feel, definitely worth a watch.
@@reservoirdude92I liked it but it did let me down too. I had high expectations after Pearl and I feel like they could’ve done a bit more with MaXXXine than what we got
This is a great horror film! Mia Goth deserves an Oscar for her role in Pearl, which is a prequel, which I highly recommend. Also, MaxXxine is going to be on HBO Saturday. Be sure to check that out.
Disagree on her deserving the Oscar as Michelle Yeoh deserved the award, but Mia should've definitely been nominated over Ana De Armas or Andrea Riseborough. But it’s not the first time horror performances get overlooked by the academy, it’s been happening for more than a decade.
I CANNOT wait for y'all to watch Pearl next!! Very excited 🙏🏼😊 Also, y'all should definitely checkout more Ti West films, (V/H/S is great because it's a bunch of shorts w/several other directors of his "class," and or House Of The Devil.)

All the best from England I live near the church they used in the omen where they are driving up when Damien goes nuts. It’s called Guildford cathedral here in Surrey England. Love to you both ❤
It is the best written and has the best pacing. Pearl has the best acting, and maybe cinematography, and of not then Maxxxine cinematography, but I’ll still give it to Pearl.
@@RelentlessOhioxI didn't care for Pearl. Maxxine......Was predictable her daddy was a silly. Cocaine, guns, sex, and lots and lots of murder. I don't deserve a movie like that.
You may be looking for the word vitality to describe what Pearl and Howard were envious of seeing in everyone who was young. I found this to be such a solid horror movie. The way it was written, cast, shot, produced, acted, directed, and executed. No pun intended. It ended up on my very favorite horror films list. I hope you react to Pearl and MaxXxine. It'll be well worth the watch.
Thanks, TBR and Samantha! 😱 I love this one, I also love the prequel PEARL (2022).. The sequel MAXXXINE (2024) is okay and interesting, but didn't resonate for me as much as the first two.
I'm not a fan of slasher movies, but the trailer for MaXXXine really caught my attention, so I went back to watch X and Pearl too, and they were definitely worth the time.
When I watched X in the cinema I had no idea what was coming, a mix of horror and porn in the 70s atmosphere and I confess, I loved it. The interesting thing is that I lived in the 80s, but I'm not a big fan of this type of character killing and scares, but when it's well done within a good script, it becomes very enjoyable. The scene of the crocodile approaching Maxine, as it was filmed, is one of my favorites in life, as well as the first death under the red light of blood at night. It's worth watching Pearl, because it ended up being even more interesting and Mia rocks. Very good.
Going into Pearl and MaxXxine if you do, just keep in mind all three movies are so different in style, and Ti West kills it with all three. Pearl is incredible and MaxXxine is fun af and so good looking.
Karen Gillan has a Voice Cameo in this: Listen closely to a woman selling steaks on the radio at 13:34 (during cow carnage scene). "Now that's a bonanza!". Thats Karens Voice
Ti West is the master of slow burn horror. I recommend The Innkeepers, The Sacrament (dramatisation of the real world Jonestown Massacre) and obviously Pearl and MaXXXine. He's great.
@@MobischerX was released two months after Scream. So while Scream was first, they were released so close together that it wouldn’t be unheard of to see X first.
I loved this franchises cinematography! Felt like watching a 70s movie in the theater. Yes, there are two others pearl happens next, but it’s also a prequel about pearl when she was younger, yet oddly played by Mia goth and Maxine is the end of the trilogy that comes to Max I believe on the 18th! Hope y’all check out the others❤
Karen Gillan is not seen in the movie but rather heard. She plays the voice of a radio advertisement. Probably by why google says radio steak seller. She is selling steaks over the radio.
I just watched this whole trilogy over last weekend. (I've been curious about them for a while but spotting your video may have got me to pull the trigger.) It's a very interesting trilogy and Mia Goth was outstanding in all 3. Like a lot of other commenters, I liked Pearl best. Hope you check it out. A24 also distributed the Ari Asters films, lol. A24 doesn't make films. They pick them up and fund them to be distributed to main steam. They have a great track record when choosing films/directors and have been sticking by a lot of them. Robert Eggers another great director they have been backing.

I really enjoy West’s cinematography style. “House of the Devil” was the most 80s looking movie I’ve seen since the 80s. “X” looks great. But the story just doesn’t do it for me. I’m not a Jenna Ortega fan and this movie just wasn’t what I wanted out of the premise.

MaXXXine is fun. A decent homage to Brian De Palma-style 80's sexual thrillers. I like it more than X, but not as much as Pearl.
