They do this to kids teams they sponsor. If you or school or league is nike sponsor, your contract states you cannot play against any team without a nike sponsor.

I’m not a lakers fan but Austin reaves has been one of the best players on team USA. Lamelo ball and trae young are so bad on defense and both turn the ball over so much. Brunson and Haliburton are way more consistent and efficient players. Trae young wasn’t snubbed, his defense might be the worst in the entire league.
So did you think about this comment while the Lithuanian guards backed down Reaves over and over and showed him for his weak defense? Lamelo Ball or Trae Young could have been dominated just as badly but put up some actual points to be useful on at least one side of the ball.

This is NOT a bad team…it’s not “full” of all stars and superstars…but it’s not a bad team.
There are certainly politics that are keeping Trae out of Team USA…but other top players just aren’t trying to play for the USA unless it’s the Olympics.
You could say 7 of them probably at least are Stars, or upcoming one's. Ant, Haliburton, Brunson, JJJ, Ingram and Bridges. Banchero and Cam Johnson will be soon enough. Hart is one of the best most Elite Defenders in the NBA, can shoot, drive and kick. Reaves is a very well rounded upcoming player who only gets better. Not a star, but very solid. I forget who else, but that's a pretty good team there.. This dude doesn't know NBA basketball. Plain and simple. He obviously thinks that LaMelo Ball is better than Tyrese Haliburton too. Smh.

Of course one guy can't help with D, but they also don't have the firepower to keep up with Lithuania who was picking and popping and hitting tons of three's and just kept the US at arms length easily. Edwards went off but ended up shooting a ton of threes which isn't naturally his game. Having another guy that can do that and can run the pick and roll (which also requires having another rim runner cause they don't have one) would make a difference IMO. This team can't even beat Germany. No I don't think Trae alone would make a difference, but he'd make them better in the shooting department, which they need as well as better defenders.
you're clearly biased, reaves and kessler are on the team because they fit the team and don't need the ball to impact the game. Trae and lamelo are both ball dominant and the team already has brunson and haliburton, you can't just pick a load of all-star pg's and expect them to do better than guys who actually fit the roster. I get the argument for trae but lamelo hardly played last year it wouldn't make a lot of sense

Here’s why I personally think Team USA didn’t pick Trae Young or LaMelo Ball:
Trae: can’t play defense, plus is more ball dominant than most of the players on that roster
LaMelo: injury prone, but is a better player than someone like Haliburton
Not better than Haliburton and it’s not close
Honestly most of these guys don’t care as much about international play as they used to but it’s growing around the world and politics are annoying already

I’ve noticed some of the guys on this current FIBA team are struggling with their roles. Antman, Ingrams are two. Imaging superstars, can they put their egos aside? There is upside for the coaching staff to have players that don’t have ego. Like Portis, Reaves and many of the others. Chemistry and continuity, I would think, is a big factor.

Also, the US Olympic squad is reserved for the best of the best, the US FIBA squad is typically for the young players to get some international experience.

I like this team actually, everyone is hungry, many are 2 way players, most of them are unselfish players who can do a little bit of everything.
