Again, as voted this month by my Patrons, trrrrr... this one! I kinda expected it to win, 'the shadow of your smile' is always a popular tune. It has a great chord progression for improvisation. I would say, it's maybe not the fanciest solo I've heard but all elements are there and all super well balanced to make a sweet sounding interpretation. A bit of melodic variations, a bit of chords, a bit of blues licks, a bit of bebop lines.... There is a bit of guessing in the comping as the guitar is not super clear but I'm sure it's pretty close. Enjoy!
Herb, who inspired Emily Remler and supported her career - thanks Herb-, has undoubtedly a place amongst the greatest jazz guitarists of all times. You hear this immediately. I learned a lot from Emily, so indirectly from Herb.
Nicely done...I studied with, played second guitar to him and got to know him well over the years.(met in 1983) He would be honored by this...after telling you that he would as his custom to do so,say.....now let's play some blues
Think I may have to do your patreon page man. As I become more interested in jazz your transcriptions become more and more helpful in my journey. Great post as always.
I love that transcript !! Thank you very much for sharing, I am writing to you from Colombia! I would like to ask you, do you have the audio of the backing track of that transcription? If you have it and can share it with me, I would be very grateful. stay tuned greetings
Hey, I have original recordings of the first guitarist in Brazil, the legendary Américo Jacomino "Canhoto" (1887-1928), as well as other pioneers such as Dilermando Reis (1915-1977), Levino Albano da Conceição (1883-1955), between others. It would be nice to see them transcribed.
Awesome, thanks François! Any chance we might see some Django Reinhardt tunes in the future? 😁

Thanks! I don't think I will do Django Reinhardt tunes, not because I don't like him thou. It's just that there's already more than enough transcriptions of him available, so I don't see the point. Maybe if I find something very cool that I cannot find a decent transcription of, who knows.
@Clifton Banks...it's called "transcrption" and it's for morons like me who play guitar but can't read music. There's six lines, for each of the six strings on the guitar, and the numbers indicate the frets on the neck of the guitar where the note should be played.
You are too modest Clifton.Tabulatura has been around since 1300 when Spanish German and Italian composers used this musical notation for the vihuela lute and organ
Always liked the way Herb always added his own brand of blue licks into otherwise non-blues ballads and such... It was his recognizable signature.....
This is some of the most beautiful playing from Herb. And a fantastic study of trio playing! Thank you François, your work ethic is incredible.
The bassline and bass solo are gorgeous!

Thanks for the music and transcription! Love it when digital sheet music accompanies a performance on UA-cam.
Herb ....my favorite guitarist of many....
Solo and comp is freaking awesome! Thanks for the upload.

@@jg11x11 One of the things about Herb was his down to earth approach. He had a great sense of humor which was nice to be around
@@galenhunsucker8187That must be some of his humour at Bar 110; it causes me to burst out in laughter :)
Yes, Herb can fit a blues riff any anything

Unfortunately, there are few transitions from the original recordings of Américo Jacomino, and of those that exist, few are decent.
Awesome, thanks François!

@ With regards to gypsy jazz, there's a fella whose absolutely tearing it up at the moment called Antoine Boyer. You should check him out!
@ I understand fully. Keep doing what you're doing though. It's a blast going through your videos and playing along.
Can you do Cinema Paradiso by Pat Metheny. Great video!
Very nice 😳😳backing ????
Caspita!
Maravilha!
Great player, but what are those drawings with the dots and lines?
It's a secret conspiracy code only musicians can read!
