    I think a mode where you do more than the usual amount of laps would be very fun and possibly at the end of each lap the player over the finish line last is eliminated, this would continue for every lap until its a one v one. This would make every lap count massively. This would also open up possibilities for more than 12 players.

      I think sega all stars racing did this pretty well. They had a mode called king of the hill in which every certain amount of time the player in last place would get eliminated. I think something like that could work great for Mario kart.

    A story mode where you travel to different kingdoms, racing in each one's grand prix.
    Example, maybe you start in the Mushroom Kingdom and that grand prix has the more simple tracks like Mario Circuit or Peach's Castle, but then you go to a snow themed kingdom and all the tracks in that kingdom are snow themed. Maybe the final kingdom is in space with Rainbow Road as the final track.
    I also think it would be cool if the final track in each grand prix takes you to the next kingdom

    I REALLY don't like having every single character unlocked from the beginning.
    I feel that putting more emphasis on the character you chose via abilities is an amazing idea

      Pretty sure that was only a MK8 Deluxe thing. Which I personally liked since I already had beaten everything on the WiiU. But yeah character abilities like in Tour or DoubleDash would be great.

      As I said in a comment just now, we should have a Smash Bros-style unlock system, for characters, karts, and even cups.
      For examples:
      Play 30 VS races as Luigi to unlock Baby Luigi
      Race on Big Blue 10 times to unlock Blue Falcon
      Come first as Donkey Kong 15 times to unlock Banana Cup
      And if Mission Mode (or Challenges from Mario Kart Tour) was a thing, this could also be used for unlocking things, such as beating a certain mission, or even beating a certain mission as a certain character).

      @@CocalicoPCTech I guess I am more slightly skeptical about this idea than most… because, how do you make the special items/abilities balanced enough in a racing game so they’re simultaneously unique, while also not having huge gaps in power? This sort of dynamic balancing just seems way easier to do in a fighting game than it is in a racing game

    I think I have a better idea for the yellow shell: I always viewed the blue shell and green shell(idk what’s up with the red shell) as being like they are in super Mario world where the green shell is basic and the blue shell gives yoshi wings (that’s why the blue shell used to have wings) so I think it would be really cool to base the yellow shell off of that too. Basically in super Mario world when yoshi has a yellow shell in his mouth he can make a ground pound-like move where if he jumps, he lands a lot harder than normal, so much so that it creates two puffs of smoke that hurts any enemies it touches. So what I think they should do is make it like that in Mario kart, it functions exactly like a green shell but when the yellow shell is destroyed it has a huge blast radius almost like a shock wave where there is a yellow circle and it if you got hit by it, it would paralyze you for 3 sec (so basically it’s the super horn fused with the green shell but with a shock effect) I think this would be really cool and it would pay homage to the original yellow shell as it would be based off of that in mariokart.

      Or what if the yellow shell or it doesn’t even have to be a shell or yellow just what if when you throw it what ever enemy it hits you teleport to where the opponent is and the opponent teleports where you are (but you can’t throw it backwards

      Or you make it the opposite of the red shell, and it will attack the racer behind you. That would make it also pretty funny

    I would love to see a "New Donk Circuit" type of course where you race through New Donk City and then go onto the side of city hall as an antigravity section

    Mario Kart 8 with its DLC feels like a peak of perfection with the series. I can’t imagine them announcing Mario Kart 9 or anything more until 2025

    To make All-Cup Tour perhaps a bit more bearable, they could make the next race start immediately after the last. Your points could simply flash up on screen and it could be more of an endurance test.

    Another idea that would be cool is glider-only tracks, so u have a track that u stay in the air the whole track, maybe instead of gradually falling down u turn into a plane or smth

    Something i'd like in mario kart 10 is a "tour mode" where you need to get points while playing, and the person with the msot points wins

    If you notice how every installment in the series offers at least 1 new gameplay mechanic then we can safely assume that the next game will offer a new playstyle. And the first idea that came to my mind was, wait for it.. RAILS!! These marble rails would be shortcuts that are hidden in newer stages and even some retro courses. When you drive onto a rail then metal rings extrude out of your rims to grip onto the rails. Rails can go around in loops and some even have a split fork path that you can choose which one you want to take by leaning your kart in the direction you want to go. You can also preform mini turbos faster by drifting in the direction of the rail if there is a curve. Items can travel on rails too, if you get hit by items you'll stop dead in your tracks and if it's a powerful item like a bullet bill or blue shell your kart will flip over on one side and you'll have to lean back onto the rails. Rails can offer protection and vulnerability against certain items so they can be used strategically, for example a red shell won't enter a rail on it's own and instead look for the next racer. If someone gets hit by a thundercloud on a rail then the electrical current can spread across the rail affecting the other racers. Or if you have a racer approaching behind with a golden mushroom then you can flip you upside down by ramming through you with enough speed. Boost and glide panels can also be placed on rails too. An idea for some new tracks that can utilize the rails is a themepark where you can enter a rollercoaster track or a ski mountain where you can take the ski lift to get back to the top of the lap.
    Another idea for a kart ability would be the ability to drive on water, the tires inflate on contact with deep water. There could be a beach track where you start from the shore and drive onto the big wide ocean and you could do trick jumps off the waves.

      Maybe when you float over water if you hit spikes your tyres deflate to normal then you sink to the seabed where you drive normal again but slower.
      Or your inflated tyres make you bounce a little bit like a pinball machine when you bump into life buoys like bumper karts.

    The idea of having missions, hubs, shops, and customized Mii outfits has me wonder how well a Mario and Sonic collab kart game would go, like the Olympics. I mean, we already had a ski game set at Mario Circuit Wii and Equestrian at Moo Moo Meadow.
    Speaking of more feasable collabs, Warioware rep. I mean, Kart GP 1 and 2 had Diamond City.

    Knockout, character skins in a sub menu (like Yoshi + Shy Guy) and customising lap count. Also, it would be cool to have 3 or 4 teams, not just 2. I think that would make team games even more exciting, and even better now that you can select different items for different teams. That's what I'd be after.

    For the ice flower, stuck for 5 seconds is too harsh, let's change to: they can't control their kart and can only go forward bouncing off walls like a green she'll. And frozen player can hurt others.
    Other idea I have: the spiked green shell, they act like a green shell but they pierce through players (like the Bowser shell in double dash) and also they are faster.
    Dark shells or bomb shell: it's a shell that explodes on racer contact. Simple at that.
    P balloon: your gravity is reduced, you stay in air longer and go off road without slowing for 20 seconds but you are very lightweighed and p balloon explodes upon being hit. This opens shortcut possibilities and adding risk.
    Bubble: it's a shield that blocks one hit, only appears on the 5 first places.
    They can't block explosions and stars tho

    I totally agree with the crossover tracks and characters. But you could make custom designs for these characters like Kirby gets instead of an item the cutter ability with the head instead of a bumerang

    I'd love an elimination mode. Every 30 seconds the player in last place is eliminated from the race. This goes on until one player is left at the end. Asphalt 8 had this mode and it was great.

    I have an idea for an item. The Propeller Suit.
    With it you'd fly high into the sky and instantly activate the glider. With it you can take shortcuts and experiment at different points in the track.
    This one is just to screw around. Reverse Blue Shell.
    When you throw it, it will target the player in last place with the same effect as a blue shell. it will obviously not be added but it'd be hella fun

    For Mario Kart 9 we need the Rainbow Cup it has every version of rainbow road back to back ending with a new version of the track.
    A challenge for this would be try not to fall off.

    I think the story mode could have an open world map to drive between the races, and since playing custom maps online would be difficult, they could make it a local exclusive. However they could add chaos and 200cc mirror mode to online.

    In Super Mario World, if a Koopa Troopa entered a yellow shell, they became invincible and would chase after Mario. Maybe the Yellow Shell should be like the Blue Shell, but can't be destroyed by a Super Horn or anything like that.
    Also, you're right about the graphics. Out of the current Booster Course Pass courses, 3DS Rainbow Road is the only one that retained its true texture.

    What I would love to see if possible would be something along the lines of Cup of the day in trackmania, Imagina, you get 10 or 15 minutes to set the best possible trial time on some map (this would make sense if community custom maps where a thing) then you get split up into 12 or maybe 24 player servers where you then do knockouts, like 3 out everytime until 12, then 2 out everytime down to the top 4 and then 1 out each race until you have a winner

    All I want to know is why double dash karts aren’t already in the game? Double Dash introduced characters holding two items, and in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, characters hold two items. So how hard would it be to have a little pop up asking if you want a Double Dash kart before you go to build you kart?

    I think they should add some sort of character switch item. It could either be randomized, or a shell. If you throw a shell, and hit someone, you switch places with them.

    Your karts can have 3 selectable set stats so you can do whatever you want to do with looks.
    2. Scramble for last mode (race)
    A wall would be chasing players to prevent camping and the first 3 players are out. Play continues till one’s left
    3. Events ( for chaos mode )
    ・ Bomb rain (10 sec)
    ・single item (30 sec)
    ・cc change (permanent)
    ・frozen track (1 lap)
    ・thundercloud (10 second, starts at 1st - 6th place, hot potato)

    Idea: hosting some kind of lobby where each person is a different character, and you walk around, but there's a practice track that's attached to the lobby, stuff like that.

    How about for the Yellow shell, it can target any player, INCLUDING YOURSELF for that negative element you were talking about. Making you have to play a game of chance. And for Cappy, how about instead of controlling the player in front of you, you swap places with a person in front of you, like lets say you throw it in 5th place and it lands on 2nd, you swap places with them completely, putting you in 2nd. But maybe to balance it out, if you get hit while using Cappy, you swap again with the person you originally swapped with.
    BTW, if this has already been commented on, I really didn't know. Sorry if I repeat another comment.

    I really really miss the idea of the red shell you could plant behind you and stays there till someone passes it like in Super Circuit lol. Probably busted, but it was a cool unique aspect of the game.

    I think a clock item would be cool. An item that slows down time so that not just the players, but also the obstacles on the track are slowed down for a couple seconds. While the user remains at normal speed. This item wouldn’t take away any momentum but it would simply slow down time.

    If there were a yellow shell, I think it should be like a manual detonate explosion. It will fly around the track, and you can manually explode it no matter where it is on the main track. The item would still take up a slot until it is exploded.
    Another idea: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE LET US SWITCH ITEMS IN OUR ITEM SLOTS. It was in double dash, so why not have it in MK8D? This feels small enough to the point where it could be added in one of the booster pass updates. It would be a small, but well needed change.

    Mario Kart your has a pretty good freeze flower. Basically it locks the controls of you when you get hit and you slide forward in the direction you were going before you got hit

    I think they should have speed specific items for example in 200CC in most cases you can outrun red shells and blue shells. I think they should add a couple of items just for 200CC

    maybe instead of a yellow shell it could be a gold shell. it could act just like a green shell, hitting at random, but this time the gold shell leaves a long trail of coins in its path? this could be really good if the game had a coin roulette to spend 10 coins on items during races

    I think there should be a chase mode. Every character starts out normally, but after 10 seconds a giant Goomba chases you around the track. The Goomba slowly gets faster and faster until it catches everyone. Last standing wins

    I love the idea of being able to change the stats of your cars and bikes yet only to certain stats that other cars already have so when youre in an online match you wont see funky kong with the flame runner everywhere as an example but will be able to see alot more individual car builds

    Addition to #15: What if in online races, if you have too many crowns you will sometimes tip over and lose balance! The more crowns you get in a row, the bigger chance of falling over

    what if the Yellow Shell always hits the racer that it's behind you? like a reverse Red Shell (normally the Red Shell when you shoot backwards it doesn't hit the racer behind like a Homing Shell, but just hits if it is on it's path).
    Side note: The Yellow Shell by default always throws backwards but if you force the Yellow Shell to shoot Foward it will act the same as the Red Shell do when shoot Backwards.

    The Loadouts are the stupidest idea so far (I am at 06:40) unless you can create your own sets
    Stage morph is a REALLY nice idea.

    Some good ideas but they should include every old track from Mario kart every game ever. Along with 48 new tracks and maybe a new track every month building towards a cup.
    Also:
    Customizable profiles that track, wins losses, how many times you finished in what place on what course. Favorite character loadout.
    Draft mode online where you can pick certain karts/characters but they are unusable after so many turns until you use the whole roster, or you pick a character then someone else picks a kart, prevent the same load outs and duplicate karts/characters.
    Yellow Shell-I’ve been saying it for a while a shell that just goes forward for a full lap and hits anyone in its path.
    Bowser shell-shoots backwards around the whole track and hits everyone including the person who threw it.
    Other shells-hit the three people in front of you before breaking, or hit the person in front of you then splits out to the side. Or hits and then shatters leaving debris on the course.
    Mostly just make options for the game. Was it Mario Kart Wii where you could do 9 laps of Baby park? Do the same thing allow options on number of track.
    Countdown mode-you keep racing until the timer runs out.
    Original layouts-why does MK8 N64 Rainbow road have checkpoints? Make it so I can race it in its original format and do laps.
    Hub world that will allow you to “drive” to the old games and play them.
    Warp Pipe-randomly switch you with anyone on the track

    I think it'd be really cool to see more tracks that use tour's mechanics of different routes per lap. One idea i had for it was a peach's castle course where each lap takes you through a different painting.

    Not really one idea, but something I think everyone would love (and probably would make mario kart nine the best selling game on the switch) is for the next mario kart game to be sort of like what Smash Ultimate was for smash, but for mario kart. I think tour was really close to this, with so many tracks and characters and content. I just think the only thing holding it back is that it didnt get the treatment a consol game would in development. Imagine a mario kart game containing everything tour had, exept with the visuals of mario kart 8 (and obviously not on a phone). And thats not even including all the new things nintendo could add. I also dont really think its that far fetched to assume that their trying that.
    Hear me out. Nintendo makes mario kart 8, and it fails because its on wii U, so later they release it for switch and see how popular it got. That inspired them to make mario kart nine, but the task was a little more than they could handle and so they cut the fancy graphics and threw it on a phone. It did really well and they tried to see if people would like it on consles, perhaps because they had planned a port of tour but didnt think it would work so they just threw the tracks in mario kart eight.
    Also nintendo definatly could have made every single tour track look like mario kart 8 if they started when tour was finished. With the new interest nintendo is showing in mario kart it makes me think perhaps they are almost done with mario kart 9. And no you can not convence me they didnt start making mario kart 9 the second they saw how much money mario kart 8 deluxe made them.

    My ideas: 1. Elimination mode (not exactly knockout mode) If said lap gates come to the next game, let there be an option that, for example, every 30 seconds someone gets eliminated until there's 1 person left. So like knockout mode just in one race.
    2. The Warp Block from Mario Party. If you get this item you can swap places with a random racer.
    3. Health bars. So say you start with 100% health. Green and red shells do 10% damage, blue shells 20, bananas 5, getting hit by a bullet 15, obstacles 10, if someone bumps into you 1, etc. You'll be out of the race because of damage.
    4. Another idea is that if you fall off on a track Lakitu doesn't save you, you're just out of the race for good.
    5. Cursed Item Box, you can drop this and whoever runs into it gets a negative effect item, like said in the video.
    6. To go with number 3, how about yellow flags? Say if someone crashes you can have a mode that lakitu brings out the yellow flag once someone crashes, and the race is restarted. Just like real life motorsports

    Since jumping over walls in races would be extremely broken I've always had another suggestion: you can't jump over walls but you can jump over red shells and passing them on to the next person!

    I think that the yellow shell could work differently than the others, more like a rideable, just like in Bowser's Fury, you can get inside a shell and run around with it for a short time and the way it would work is the same except you can't control it. So when you activate it you go faster but you go in a straight line, the shell can kick and bounce itself on the walls and invisible walls of the map and it can hit players just like a bullet bill. That would be cool because we only have the bullet bill as an 'auto-driver' or you know what I mean.
    Also for the Cappy power-up i think it wouldn't work well since you can only control one player at a time so it's just a boomer item, instead i think it could work as a place swapper, that would be cooler, it can also help to avoid blue shells. The idea of throwing the item at someone to switch places with them could be very neat

    The All-Cup, customizable cup/tracks, and missions would make mk9 an absolute BANGER! Tbh, anything customizable would be a lot of fun!
    Can't say I agree with dominating an online group and having a lot of crowns, though. sure it looks funny, but it looks like it just paints the player as suspicious or it intimidates others and they leave the lobby immediately. Maybe having a little achievement decorative item for that feat would be nice though

    Yellow shell could be cool, but it COULD be a "Gold" shell, or "Coin" shell, and this coin could fundamentally function the exact same as a green shell, BUT when it connects, IF it connects, it gives coins 2-10 depending on how far the shell travelled before hitting a racer, which could incentivise hitting opponents from farther away.

    Online challenges and tournaments where you can unlock new characters, karts, wheels and gliders. Even alternate costumes for characters, similar to how it is in Mario golf super rush.

    about the trackmania segment:
    1. the footage you used is from the 2008 trackmania, not the 2020 version that actually has cup of the day
    2. the bronze, silver, and gold are for ranked mode, not cotd. in cotd, people are sorted into divisions of 64 players each based on their time in the qualifier, with the fastest players being in division 1

    If Mario Kart 9 would have an Story Mode there's something i really would love to see.
    Imagine if the entire main game takes place in one giant place like an island where all track are placed in a way that makes sense.
    Trought out the game you would play each track individually as you progress in the game, but when you reach the final race, every single track would connect together and you would race in a giant track compose from every track in the game.

    #4 Absolutely not. If anything, Mirror Mode needs to be removed from the franchise. At no point, when it comes up online, am I excited or happy to see it. It exists solely as a cheap form of additional content that is no longer necessary given how many tracks there are. It also isn't even good for casual players. People already get lost half the time on the MK Tour tracks; adding Mirror Mode makes it so much more confusing.

    Bonus:disco shell it’s based of the enemy in Mario world that has a flashing shell it has a high chance of appearing in 10-12th place and when used will give the user the star and mega mushroom and effect and start its chase to the person in first place if anyone gets it it’ll start orbiting that person for 8 seconds then give that person the star and mega mushroom effect it can also be snatched by someone else but the timer won’t reset once in first it will immediately hit the person in first removing the item they have and replacing it with a green shell then everyone in 3rd-12th with get the star effect.

    The obvious - to me - extension of the knockout mode idea is to combine it with the stage warp idea. Every... Maybe one and a half laps a portal takes racers to the next track, closing behind the final three racers (who can then finish the 3 laps - or just the current lap - of that track to place between themselves). Very hardware dependent on if you'd be able to load for it to feel seamless, mind, either via background loading or a modern hyperfast SSD (but then you'd have to have the game stored on system and I'm not sure how well that would work for people playing Mario Kart from a cart)
    If MK9 is on Switch I'd want to see it take a Forza Horizon approach to differentiate it a bit more from MK8DX. If it's on the Switch's successor, then that doesn't matter as much, but definitely would like a bit more single-player-focused content in there - Either story mode or mission mode could work for that, on top of the normal solo play of cups.

    21:23 If you're playing with 3-4 players on the same console, there's a very distinct framedrop, down to like 30 fps compared to the game's natural 60, so that lag may be frustrating and difficult for players to work around, making for a not-fun experience, hence why you also can't play with more than 2 players online or wireless either

    I don’t hear anybody talking about this so I’m just gonna say it… Another vehicle type. And that would be, Roller skates and skateboard! Wouldn’t that change the Mario kart game racing a bit into something interesting? You have 3 options. Like choosing your kart/bike wheel’s and glider. Instead, you get to choose the roller skates/skateboard, backpack (which is your engine) And ofc glider~
    I think that’ll be so cool and would change up the Mario kart series forever and it’ll be very interesting~
    Also I can’t stand that when playing online, a lot of ppl only choose a specific kart/character for them because certain characters that you use have better speed or acceleration to it but… What if you can add/take away any speed, acceleration, handling, etc by I guess using points? Or perhaps coin’s into whatever kart you want! So that way you actually can use the weakest kart ever by adding stuff to it in order to make it better! Does that make sense? Anyway that’s my idea c:

    Yellow shell should be like a shotgun shell. So when you throw it it sends out 3+ shells in a spread pattern but if they hit a wall it doesn’t ricochet like greens

    This idea is genius because it allows people to be whatever customization they want without stats making a difference

    What I would love to see is a slightly more technical mode/mechanic where you pick out multiple kart parts for your selected cup/race, and the damage you take from items in that race actually damages the kart pieces, which you would then switch out those kart parts (possibly during the race in a "pit stop" style area, or after the race)

    I wish we had an Iron Man mode, where people just drive around the circuit avoiding their balloons popping which would disqualify them, and maybe with each lap one balloon regenerates.
