Thanks Jimmy - btw, i did both kracky method and soil. What I figureded out - pumpkins grow larger in soil and even better in large air pots. Also, keeping only 1 pumpkin per vine made them larger....fewer, but larger. Also, regarding the powdery mildew, using actual powdery mildew spray vs homemade baking soda method was more succesxful in keeping the mildew in check, but i understand either people dont want to buy/use bought sprays. One thing i would also add/suggest, start spraying the homemade spray `before` the mildew actually appears.
...also, for major mildew propblems/humid locations, scrubing each leaf by hand using dry laundry soap mixed with water and a dish scrub pad really helps. When i am staying in thailand, the humidity causes way more powdery mildew and scrubing by hand is a must.
Powdery mildew is a problem where i am at, but never seem to be a problem if i spray early and often- before it appears. When staying at my place in thailand where the humidity is awful- i do start the spraying process if actually powdery mildew spray early and often. I also try and scrub the pkants/leaves once evey 2 weeks with that dish scrub pad and (dry laundry detergent + warm water) ....seems to help a lot.
I've used the same solution for powdery mildew on my Howden pumpkins (grown in raised beds) and it worked phenomenally well. Unfortunately I found out about this solution too late into the season last year and most of the damage had already been done. Looking forward to using the tricks I learned for this year in hopes I'll get some great looking jack-o-lanterns for this year's Halloween.
Hi Jim, new subscriber here. Been binge watching your fantastic videos, since I am about to embark on my hydroponic journey this Fall/Winter. I will be doing the Kratky method since it sea so simple. Will video record my journey! Wish me luck!
Oh man! That sucks buddy. Awesome video though! I find that using 48” tower fans are the ticket to keep moisture at bay, and prevent microclimates from taking hold on leaves. The 4 foot tall wall of wind covers the whole plant, compared to a tiny circle from normal fans. Keep up the good work my friend!
my guess for why the leaves were clearish and more yellow if because the plant doesn't touch soil any further down the vine meaning no more roots can grow on the vine. it might jsut not have been getting the extra bit of neutrients
Okay i accidentally sprouted a bunch of pumpkin seeds from a pumpkin. The shells have mostly fallen off and they're still only in water. I have land space but can decide if i should plant the roots in soil or come up with a hydroponics system out doors since i have a pretty large patch of dirt. Thoughts or tips
If you're reliant on harvesting a pumpkin, soil is probably the most straightforward.. hydro could be fun/neat but id be careful to check the temperature ranges the reservoir will go through, depending your climate
Please try growing a cherry tomato next year. Train the vines upward and pruned to 2 vines only. Your indoor garden by a large window is a beautiful setup. Thank you.
This is fascinating. I really want to give this a try. Maybe with a Zucchini. I have found clarita is very mildew free. Watering the leaves with yoghurt in the water can help with mildew. It is a huge problem here in UK because of our damper summer climate. Maybe a smaller variety of pumpkin. What are nutrients in the water? The large white patches on the leaves are very common on pumpkins and Zucchini. Clalrita mentioned before have very impressive ones and the plants look beautiful. Have you tried cinnamon powder for mold? What is the material you sowed the seed into? Thank you for your video.
Glad you liked it! I use Grodan rockwool as the medium to sow my seed. And I grew this plant with nutrients from Future Harvest. I’ve also had success in the past using advanced nutrients micro/grow/bloom, but with different types of plants. I’ve seen some of these mildew prevention techniques but haven’t tried them. The mixture I attempted in the video is all I have tried personally. I was hesitant to do too much because I was indoors and didn’t want to make a mess of everything. I’ll give another pumpkin plant a try this summer outside and see what we see. It was a very fun plant to grow
It's crazy how fast cucurbits will get out of control. I trellis my cucumbers and melons and trying to manage all those vines is always such a pain in the ass.
@@JimmyBHarvests thank you! I’m going to try your method and the traditional way of growing pumpkins. I heard garlic deters cucumber beetles. 🤷🏻♀️ hopefully I’ll have better luck this year.
I grew this pumpkin with nutrients from future harvest. I used the micro grow bloom series and a few flowering additives. Details/links in description!
I appreciate you showing not only your successes but also your learning from accidents. Thank you
🙏🙏👊

Great tips! I definitely could have been more proactive and diligent with the sprays. Very excited to try a pumpkin plant again next season!

@@JimmyBHarvestscan't you do this year round if hydroponic?
Wow!! Can’t believe you got a pumpkin to grow indoors! Crazy!! So cool. 🎃 👻 love this channel! Happy Halloween
Happy Halloween 🎃 👻 thanks for the support!
Halloween is a dumb festival. Except for the fact that its actaully fun of course.😂
....also, it doesn't hurt the plant by triming the root system back in tbe 5 gallon buckets. ....helps to keep it in check/ overflowing
I was intrigued to see a garden up so many stories, considering I live in a rural area. very cool brother.
THAT'S SO COOL. You really got far with it!!!! I was so skeptical! but you did it
🙏🤙
I always love your growing adventures. I must admit, this one was whacky but I loved it!!
😂🤪 thanks for the kind words Alonzo! Always love trying something new

Cool concepts. Keep producing great hydroponics videos! 🌿🌵🥒🌾🌱🍃
Thanks 🙏 🙏
Sad that you had to stop it from growing. I was really looking forward to seeing how it would look when it's ready for harvest .
Agreed! The pumpkins were growing fast I wish we could have lasted a little longer!
Awesome video please keep up the great content.
Thanks for the kind words!!
That was awesome. Great job with it and good luck next time!
🙏🙏
Great video. I think you succeeded in spite of not being able to let your pumpkins develop.
It would be interesting to try growing pumpkins, as I have been growing hyponics for years. A good dehumitifier should be used, it's necessary.

Love to hear it! Thanks for the kind words and best of luck with your plants! It’s a great hobby I’m sure you’ll enjoy
i love that fox sweater!!
Wooow the roots are insane! Thanks for sharing this experience. The flowers are delicious to eat eh?! Hope you put them to good use ahahha
Yes- I hear pumpkin flowers are a Bengali specialty! I tried one it was pretty decent 😁
I've also found luffa gourds have similar roots well suited for hydroponics. Great roots but big plants.
Very cool! Similar plants maybe
ohh,how sad it is when you already got pumpkins on it😢 I would like to see your future videos of growing pumpkins! Good luck!
Sad times, but I really enjoyed growing this plant! Looking forward to the next one- outdoors for sure 😆😆
Very cool project!
A really good video thank you for sharing🌹

Good idea with the tower fans, Tom! Would probably work a lot better.
Superbb....
What are the nutrients we need to give in this hydrophonic method for the plant
I used future harvest nutrients for this plant. Link in description. Any hydroponic nutrients should theoretically work

what is your rule for refilling your resevior

I’ve grown cherry tomatoes before and there’s a video of the experience on my channel! Please check it out I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

Is the powdery mildew from the water supply that you have?
did you change out the water?
Top it up as it runs low and occasionally i might do a full change/clean if the bucket is looking too dirty
Squash flowers are edible and delicious. You should try them!
We ate a bunch of these flowers! 😁
What nutrients do you give the pumpkin
Just a standard micro/grow/bloom series
It's crazy how fast cucurbits will get out of control. I trellis my cucumbers and melons and trying to manage all those vines is always such a pain in the ass.
So how do you fight moisture indoors?
Probably need to buy some sort of dehumidifier/ humidifier situation
Will this method help stop cucumber beetles from destroying the plant?
Possibly! Cucumber beetle larvae feed on root systems, which they wouldn’t be able to do in a hydroponic set up
@@JimmyBHarvests thank you! I’m going to try your method and the traditional way of growing pumpkins. I heard garlic deters cucumber beetles. 🤷🏻♀️ hopefully I’ll have better luck this year.
1:37 lovely tomato ;)
😁🙏🙏
Grow one outside this coming year and see how it goes
You’ve read my mind!
Anyone can point me a small led flowering lamp? I need it for a single plant, what is minimum power that get the job done?
Not sure about small lights hopefully someone can help you out!
What nutri solution you use sir?
I grew this pumpkin with nutrients from future harvest. I used the micro grow bloom series and a few flowering additives. Details/links in description!
I wonder how many noticed the little weed plant bahahah
🤫
Fertilizer name please? 😅
Info in video description!
Baking soda would have fixed your issue. I would think the solution would get too hot if they were grown outdoors
You could do it bro!! Try again
🙏
👍💪🌱🌳✌

Maria friend to pumpkin
What a shame, I would’ve really liked to have seen how big those pumpkins got. Or even just one :(
Another one bites the dust. These people start out OK then eventually just quit.
😂
I felt sad when I saw you cutting the plant ;-;
Same. Looking forward to taking my next pumpkin plants all the way! I just started a pair of seeds like 10 days ago 😄
The ending Is more sad than watership down (╥_╥) too bad, nur great Info Video nontheless
