    Strangles us a big deal in Norway, if they just think you have a horse with the possibility of having this deceace, they close up the stable and put every one in quarantine for month, even after the last infected horse is sound. We had that situation some years ago at the stable where I kept my horse. The riding school had to close down, only horse owners where allowed to enter the area. No trail riding, no summer pasture for the horses. No fun.
    I imported my bold boy from Denmark. He was an Oldenburger for both jumping and dressage, and he didn't catch strangles, even that his box neighbours where infected. The vet told me that in Danmark, they use to get every horse infected on a farm, since they normally never catch it again. So the vet thought my boy must have had it before I bought him. In Norway, we try not to get infected with strangles. Strange how different between the countries 😮

    By the way I didn't know there is a vaccine for strangles. So I googled and we got a vaccine for strangles approved in 2021. It's for EU counties and Norway ( which is not part of EU 😉). I'm not even sure if my boy has this vaccine... Have to check that. Thanks for bringing that up. Learned something new 😊👍

    I love seeing the sticky beaks in the next stalls craning their necks 😳 to see what Tim's doing with the horse being worked on, but for the sticky beaks comfort sake, I think those two stalls need either a mounting block or a viewing window😍😂
    Wouldn't you just love to know what their thoughts are? 😂 For those new to horses, some do have a possessiveness for their riders.
    I'm very much looking forward to seeing video of you and Hank competing at the show, Tim. Congrats for being in the money👍

    I’m happy to hear you had a successful show with Bubba.
    I think it’s great you take the time to video and show just how much work it takes to own a horse.
    Too many people want a horse but have no idea what they’re getting into then the horse suffers.
    I’m really surprised not every state requires reporting Strangles. That’s crazy! Strangles is highly contagious and equines often die from it.
    I don’t blame you for insisting horse owners have a certificate of vaccination, especially for Strangles.
    I like many others enjoy your videos, thank you and have a nice day. 😊

    • @tracyjohnson5023
      @tracyjohnson5023 6 місяців тому

      Most horses don't die from regular strangles. The thing about vaccinating for strangles is if a horse has had strangles before, the vaccination causes serious complications and they can die.
      Unless you've owned the horse since birth or know the truthful full history, it's better not to vaccinate for it. The vaccine efficacy isn't great anyway.

    • @patriciafarran9742
      @patriciafarran9742 6 місяців тому

      @@tracyjohnson5023 I see what you’re saying, but I’m not a vet.
      I also agree with you that vaccines are not 100% effective.
      But, if a person’s horse is around a lot of horses say in competitions or commercial stables what’s the best decision? Without knowing, especially if the state doesn’t require reporting, is it worth taking the chance either way? Vaccinate, don’t vaccinate?
      It would be nice to know if there is an antibody test that can show the likelihood of having had the disease.

    • @adriennemiller1642
      @adriennemiller1642 6 місяців тому

      My vet does not recommend strangles vax; does not give it. Lots of complications can happen from it.

    • @tracyjohnson5023
      @tracyjohnson5023 6 місяців тому

      @@patriciafarran9742 there is a blood titer test that can show if they've had it within 2 years, have it now with no clinical signs (shedders).
      Some states do require reporting if outbreaks, but if a person doesn't call the vet, it usually doesn't get reported.
      Strangles vaccines require a dose and booster like many. Strangles is a strep virus that's bacterial. Most horses get over it well, but it's usually 1-2 months lost of training/riding time if they do get it.
      Nationwide, horses are legally supposed to have health certificates (30 days or less) and coggins when they're hauled across state lines. However, there used to be a passport for horses hauled around a lot that didn't require that. Not sure if they still do that.
      I always take my own buckets and equipment with me everywhere. I've got a stall kit that I use anywhere before I put my horse in. Hammer, screws, nails, quat disinfectant. I bring my own shavings too lol.
      Pretty sure I'm over the top, but I've worked quarantine facilities off and on for years.

    Congrats on your show! Bubba sure is a nice horse! Strangles went through my boarding stable 2 summers ago. It was odd since all the horses are required to have all vacs done with all paperwork proof, including strangles. Not all horses were affected, including my Tennessee Walker, but about 7 got it bad with burst abscesses. And they were all older horses! Nasty stuff! No one was allowed to take horses off property but it was all good this past summer. Take care and love your channel!
