Samuel Mercier Hell yeah it is! One of the most exciting and interesting albums of 2019. 2019 was a pretty dull year imo. Other than a boat on a hill. This is the only one that stood out
As an Extreme Metal fan that album was disappointing, it was just a bunch of generic 80's Thrash Metal song attempts nothing that a lot of Thrash Meatl band didn't do 30 years ago, and don't get me wrong their Psychodelic Experimental rock stuff it's awesome but this album it's just disappointing, I better listen to the first Overkill Records.
I’ve seen so many people say that Billie is this generation’s Avril Lavigne and that makes me worried that her career is gonna pan out the same way that Avril’s did, with a promising debut, a fantastic follow up that lived up to that potential, and then it’s all downhill from there and she starts working with generic hitmaker producers like Max Martin in order to stay relevant
Bring Back Kim Possible, Animated Obviously I doubt that that’s gonna happen. Billie knows that Finneas is the only producer that would ever be able to get her vision. Plus, I think she’s smart enough to learn from her inspiration’s shortcomings. Hopefully.
@Fataday Korngor Yeah, I honestly think that she’s better off just working with Fineas, but I would actually be interested in hearing a Butch Walker produced pop rock from Billie at some point though, as long as she avoids people like Max Martin or other hitmaker producers that suck the personality and edge out of every artist they work with (seriously if that’s what Avril sounds like when she’s being produced by him, imagine what he would do to Billie‘s music and creative ideas 😖) she’ll be fine

Yeah. I’ll agree on number 1. That album not only came out of nowhere but the impression given to me really rekindled my interest in modern progressive rock along with thank you scientists new record

I have not hit the point of forcing myself to not listen to Moron Police yet. Seriously. Thank you, Crash, for bringing that band to my attention. Even their back-catalog stuff is technical, Zappa-inspired craziness. They're just so good.
Not sure if you are aware of this, but Moron Police just posted a nice shoutout of you on their facebook saying your review was one of their favorites!
My three favorites were The Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ “And Now for the Whatchamacallit,” Babe Rainbow’s “Today,” and Sundara Karma’s “Ulfilas’ Alphabet.” Also really dug Purple Mountains’ self-titled (RIP David Berman) and definitely Gary Clark Jr.’s “This Land.” Oh, and Miss June’s “Bad Luck Party.”
Good list Crash. Here’s my personal list: 1. Watsky - Complaint 2. Blink-182 - Nine 3. Bad Religion - Age of Unreason 4. Bayside - Interrobang 5. Prince Daddy and The Hyena - Cosmic Thrill Seekers 6. Tool - Fear Inoculum 7. Perspective, A Lovely Hand to Hold - Lousy 8. Sleater Kinney - The Center Won’t Hold 9. Coldplay - Everyday Life 10. Sleep On It - Pride & Disaster 11. @@tayhammer What can I say, I loved the new Blink record. Not only did it grip emotionally, but musically it's one of the catchiest records they've ever made. I love Tool's new album musically, but emotionally it didn't do much. Still good stuff though.
good recommendations for the new year here. i'm checking out that japanese punk one and i've been slacking on lingua ignota and billie eilish for quite a while. i'd have to disagree on blink-182 and Tool. i guess what i do agree with, is in my Top 10 list: 1. Cult of Luna - A Dawn to Fear 2. Brutus - Nest 3. Moron Police - A Boat at the Sea (this is your fault, Crash) 4. PUP - Morbid Stuff 5. black midi - Schlagenheim 6. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Infest the Rats' Nest 7. La Dispute - Panorama 8. Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race 9. Blut aus Nord - Hallucinogen 10. White Ward - Love Exchange Failure 11. Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind (honourable mention to one of my teenage years favourite band)
You know, I think I agree with your description of Thank You Scientist and I think that's possibly why I like them so much. Glad you were able to appreciate them 😁👍
I'd say Moron Police's album is my personal favourite record for the year, too. It's an incredible listen from the very beginning and I don't know how many times I've gone through the album on my drive home from work. The only bad point is that it's too short, though the closer wraps up the album really well. That being said, they're releasing the album in physical form in Japan soon which I believe has 4 extra tracks, and will eventually be released elsewhere and I really can't wait for that.
Here's just some of my favorite overall albums this year. Tool - Fear Inoculum Aesop Rock & Tobacco are Malibu Ken - S/T Kill Bill x Rav - New Moon PUP - Morbid Stuff Rival Sons - Feral Roots Fever 333 - STRENGTH IN NUMB333RS Danny Brown - UknowhatI'msayin Moron Police - A Boat on the Sea Sturgil Simpson - Sound and Fury Possessed woulda been on here too, but I haven't had the chance to spin the whole thing. ^ ^;;
For me, Tool, Klone, Evergrey, Soen, Autumn, The Night Time Project, My Epic, Source, Holy Fawn and Starset were my top 10 of 2019. The two albums I am most hyped for (that I know of) in 2020 will be coming from Katatonia and The Birthday Massacre!
So many good bois in 2019! Glad to see how comfortable you seem with the new aesthetic Crash. Here are my top three albums of the year. 3. Necrophaze by Wednesday 13 (Delightfully campy and heavy horror punk, tons of spooky fun.) 2. I Want the World by Hands Off Gretel (Raucous, grungy British riot grrl with tons of personality and conviction.) 1. Dark Days Bright Lights by Angel Metro (Gorgeous ethereal glitchy witch house with heartbreaking gothic poetry. Angel's voice is beautiful, her arrangements are beautiful, and her lyrics cut deep. This is that good spooky sad girl music.)
*Looks up Beast in Black. Listens to the first track* Wait... THIS IS FIST OF THE NORTH STAR!!! YOU DIDN'T WARN ME THEY MADE A FIST OF THE NORTH STAR SONG!!!!!! ARRRRGGHHHH! *Saves to Playlist*
I thought I was the only one who noticed that he never talked about the new Periphery album all year. I'll admit that I didn't like it at first (especially compared to their last several albums), but it grew on me enough over time for it to become my #2 album of the year behind the new Moron Police.
I think tool is a bit too high on the list but I don't care, ma bois are back... Now let's expect the new surprise album they are gonna release on spotify Also, Chocolate chip trip is a jam
You actually had the Black Midi album title pretty much right on your first try. That is, if it's meant to be pronounced like a German speaker would - then again, it's not an existing word. It's a combination of two words that don't go together this way - "schlagen" means "to strike, to beat", "Heim" means "home". I honestly have no idea what they were going for, but considering that the track you played in the background was called "bmbmbm", comprehensibility isn't a first priority for these guys.
Oh yesss. That time of the year that may or may not fall on the year where I stop binge listening to the same stuff I normally do and get to branch out by like 2cm.
BABY DIVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is back also i love the new aesthetic crash you look so happy and comfortable and i like the idea of you doing other genres of music
Surprised to see Drab Majesty here! Made me happy! You should check out some more music coming out of the goth scene. There's been a resurgence in the past couple years. Boy Harsher, She Past Away, Bastet, Bat Nouveau, SRSQ, Ships in the Night. Her Despair's new album Exorcisms of Eroticism is great for cheese factor. It's unapologetic and I love it.
Maybe I’m jumping the gun here cause I didn’t listen to that much new stuff, but 2019 just didn’t do it for me. All the Rock/Alternative stuff that’s been recommended by critics/blogs just seems kinda dull and samey to me. It’s either boring indie-folk, cliche indie pop, post-punk with no identity etc. There seems to be a push for female electropop/experimental pop in alternative press recently and while I appreciate the diversity, do they really need to sound so lifeless and forgettable? Apparently the Emo/Pop Punk/Post-Hardcore/Metalcore/Classic Punk stuff is great but I’ve never been into those styles like Crash :( Any recommendations for albums? The other genres of music I’m into probably had some great stuff, but I’m kinda stuck since Rock is always the first genre in a year I try exploring after that year ends.
Apropos Otoboke Beaver, if you want some interesting Japanese punk, check out Ling Tosite Sigure. It's prog post-hardcore with shoegaze/mathrock elements and lots of high-pitched vocals. Definitely worth a listen.
I got my dad Thank You Scientist's latest album for Christmas, and as I hoped, it was right up his alley. We're both going to see them live in February!
They aren't punk persay, but my favorite Japanese band is Cinema Staff. They're a mathy indie band with amazing chops. One of favorite albums ever is their 2017 album "Netsugen".
Can't find anyone talking about WHO by The Who anywhere. It probably wouldn't be more than a honorable mention, but I haven't seen anyone even mention it and it feels underrated now.
All This Music Will Fade is a solid contender for my song of 2019. In a world so up shit creek with stupidass lawsuits that murder freedom of creativity, it's nice to see The Who show how it should be; the greats stole, and they never faced repercussions, so why should these upstarts, who may have never even heard what their song sounds like? It's not like the music scale is endless anyway. :P
Great vid as always, hopefully I get around to listening to some of them at some point, but man I'm finding as I get older I just don't listen to new music as much as I did 5 or 10 years ago. I didn't listen to much new stuff last year, but of the stuff I did listen to I'm pretty sure I can say Ben Kenney's Must Be Nice and The Tea Club's If/When would be pretty damn hard to beat. Yes the incubus bias is strong with Ben's album, but c'mon guys he's just that good and criminally underrated. And The Tea Club is just one of the most pleasant new discoveries I've had in a long time, seriously they are such a good blend of prog rock, folk rock, art rock, with dashes of electronica, and those elements are not easy to meld together so effectively. Like this is all the best elements of classic prog rock, but with dashes of current influences thrown in for good measure. They give me serious Floyd, Yes, Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, vibes while still being able to offer interesting and fresh new takes on the genre. Seriously big thanks to Become the Knight for introducing me to them in his Rock is not dead playlist.

Great list, but what did you think of The Cranberries’s final album “In The End”? Personally I really enjoyed it. It was a fitting and heart wrenching send off.
Too bad you didn't list "Why Me, Why Not?" by Liam Gallagher in the Honorable Mentions! But like you said, so much good music in 2019. Cheers Crash. Another Great vid. Congrats on the rebranding!!
Here's another thing to consider with Strung Out: they split with their drummer of 20+ years before. When the album first came out, I was nervous since their first drummer (Jordan Burns) is/was one of the best punk drummers and was a vital part of their sound.
0:42 Oh, thank goodness.
Props for putting me onto that Moron Police album. Incredible.
Weird, exact opposite for me, was listening to moron police and found this guy mentioned in the comments
Andrew yeah I found him after randomly finding the album lmao
Infest the Rat’s Nest - King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard

I’ve been told this yesterday, this is a really bad way to start off this decade.
We’re losing our legends. RIP to the Professor. 😭
This album is so fucking good

Assuming that "Schlagenheim" is pronounced German, your first attempt was spot on. Good job ;)
You know the whole ‘yellow flannel’ thing is kind of taken by someone.
Crashthony Thomsano
Yes, but name me one music critic on UA-cam who doesn't want to be Anthony Fantano.
Who the fuck cares if someone else wears a FLANNEL
Calling it early: Moron Police gets AOTY
Corbin Garber Good call.
We have a winner
Ding Ding Ding
NAILED IT!!!
Called straight away. I thought it would’ve been an honourable mention, but when it didn’t show up, I’m like “it’s gonna be Album of the Year, easily”
I’ve seen so many people say that Billie is this generation’s Avril Lavigne and that makes me worried that her career is gonna pan out the same way that Avril’s did, with a promising debut, a fantastic follow up that lived up to that potential, and then it’s all downhill from there and she starts working with generic hitmaker producers like Max Martin in order to stay relevant

and i'm surprised that a lot of people compare her with Avril Lavigne when she is obviously the Evanescence of the Gen Z generation
@Hola123 Both artists had a huge impact on “angsty” teen girls in the early 2000s, like Billie today, I would say that she’s both
don't worry, i think she's doing fine
Crash: *doesnt say “cheers”*
Me: *sad noises*

“Same derpy old chungus” has me laughing WAY harder than it should.
Anyone else immediately spin “Afterimage” when they heard about Neil?

@@Aya_02571 An epic ass throwdown album. I kept revisiting it all throughout the year. Full Blown Meltdown is my new anthem.
Just heard it for the first time through the other day. It’s awesome! I had heard “See You At Your Funeral” and “Sibling Rivalry” and absolutely loved them, but then I forgot about them like I do so many other artists. I’m so glad I came back for it
RIP Neil Peart. Love the new intro Crash. I might be wrong, but it sounds like Milquetoast by Helmet. Either way list, good show.
Thank you for this list crash I’m absolutely dying with a hangover and this is exactly what I needed
Neil Peart was a phenomenal drummer. He was an icon, a legend, and a god. R.I.P. Neil, you were an awesome success!😢😭

wow dude, not only is new Blink album garbage but you have it ranked above Tool?
Oh man, how can you put the new blink 182 album so low
@@tayhammer What can I say, I loved the new Blink record. Not only did it grip emotionally, but musically it's one of the catchiest records they've ever made.
I love Tool's new album musically, but emotionally it didn't do much. Still good stuff though.
@Apathy&Exhaustion Hell yeah! Bayside kicked ass this year.
good recommendations for the new year here. i'm checking out that japanese punk one and i've been slacking on lingua ignota and billie eilish for quite a while. i'd have to disagree on blink-182 and Tool. i guess what i do agree with, is in my Top 10 list:
1. Cult of Luna - A Dawn to Fear
2. Brutus - Nest
3. Moron Police - A Boat at the Sea (this is your fault, Crash)
4. PUP - Morbid Stuff
5. black midi - Schlagenheim
6. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Infest the Rats' Nest
7. La Dispute - Panorama
8. Blood Incantation - Hidden History of the Human Race
9. Blut aus Nord - Hallucinogen
10. White Ward - Love Exchange Failure
11. Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind (honourable mention to one of my teenage years favourite band)
You know, I think I agree with your description of Thank You Scientist and I think that's possibly why I like them so much. Glad you were able to appreciate them 😁👍
Was kinda surprised to not see Sum 41 on the list, that record was killer!
I'm calling it now, Slipknot, Tool and Babymetal will be on this list.
Well, 2 out of three ain’t bad.
@taveon timmons OH GOD NOT MEATLOAF
well tool is in the thumbnail so
Nice Slipknot and Tool top 2. Also RIP to the Professor Neil Peart. The greatest drummer of all time.
I am glad to see Thank You, Scientist make it to your honorable mentions, that is a great band that deserves more love.
I'd say Moron Police's album is my personal favourite record for the year, too. It's an incredible listen from the very beginning and I don't know how many times I've gone through the album on my drive home from work. The only bad point is that it's too short, though the closer wraps up the album really well. That being said, they're releasing the album in physical form in Japan soon which I believe has 4 extra tracks, and will eventually be released elsewhere and I really can't wait for that.
i would never have thought in ten years that someday a hip-hop album would be my number 1 favourite album of a year, but IGOR is just too good
Me too
Same here, favorite album on the rock spectrum in 2019 was Order In Decline though
Kameron King Me as well
@@lh757 I love K-12 and Igor since I've been introduced by those artists especially Tyler since the first album I listened to is Wolf
I didn't listen to many new albums this year. Igor was one of the few I did listen to and AAAAAAAAAAAA
Idk what this jingle he plays in the intro. But I can listen to that on repeat.🤘🤘🤘🤘
The question is, will “Van Weezer” be on the best list next year? Just have to wait
I really hope so. The first single is very promising.
Jacob Iacobucci one could hope
If The End of The Game is anything to go by… yeah hopefully
Knock on wood!!!!
Love this rebrand crash keep the awesome content coming! Also Neil Peart lives on forever! ❤️🤘🏻
Wow this rebranding is refreshing
Here's just some of my favorite overall albums this year.
Tool - Fear Inoculum
Aesop Rock & Tobacco are Malibu Ken - S/T
Kill Bill x Rav - New Moon
PUP - Morbid Stuff
Rival Sons - Feral Roots
Fever 333 - STRENGTH IN NUMB333RS
Danny Brown - UknowhatI'msayin
Moron Police - A Boat on the Sea
Sturgil Simpson - Sound and Fury
Possessed woulda been on here too, but I haven't had the chance to spin the whole thing. ^ ^;;
3. Necrophaze by Wednesday 13 (Delightfully campy and heavy horror punk, tons of spooky fun.)
2. I Want the World by Hands Off Gretel (Raucous, grungy British riot grrl with tons of personality and conviction.)
1. Dark Days Bright Lights by Angel Metro (Gorgeous ethereal glitchy witch house with heartbreaking gothic poetry. Angel's voice is beautiful, her arrangements are beautiful, and her lyrics cut deep. This is that good spooky sad girl music.)
Personally my favorite album of 2019 was Sabaton: The Great War. Here's hoping Crash does a review on sabaton some day, lol
If you like otoboke beaver I’d highly recommend “Hello Everyone, Nice to Meet You, We Are Midori” by Midori and “Cell Scape” by Melt Banana
Crashthony Thomtano here
I honestly really enjoyed Rammstein's new album and i think it should have made the list
dude, I would drop however much money it would cost to see a show with Rage Against the Machine, Fire From the Gods and Fever 333 all in it
My albums (couldn’t pick just one) of the year were
Act Surprised - Sebadoh
Morbid Stuff - Pup
Watching the first five second, instant like. RIP Neil Peart
*Looks up Beast in Black. Listens to the first track* Wait... THIS IS FIST OF THE NORTH STAR!!! YOU DIDN'T WARN ME THEY MADE A FIST OF THE NORTH STAR SONG!!!!!! ARRRRGGHHHH! *Saves to Playlist*
Yes! That moron police album is absolutely delightful, one of my favs of the year too.
I can never thank you enough for the original moron police review. That album and the new tool & blink have been some of my most listened to this year
I'm hoping Periphery IV: Hail Stan is on here
Same here, he hasn’t talked about it all year
My AOTY
Same, metal AOTY for me absolutely incredible stuff
Kind of weird that he ignored it completely throughout the year. If he didn't like it, I wish he would at least tell us why.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that he never talked about the new Periphery album all year. I'll admit that I didn't like it at first (especially compared to their last several albums), but it grew on me enough over time for it to become my #2 album of the year behind the new Moron Police.
I'm really excited for the new Pearl Jam album coming out in a few months. I might try to go see them live again.
The song playing during PUP’s entry isn’t Kids, it’s the title track.
Am I the only one who hears St. Anger in Crash's new music?
I think tool is a bit too high on the list but I don't care, ma bois are back...
Now let's expect the new surprise album they are gonna release on spotify
Also, Chocolate chip trip is a jam
Moron Police is AWESOME! Also, it's great to see Billie Eilish on there.
Glad to see you dipping into more genres & stuff. I'll try not to request a shit ton of Pop Punk, Math Rock & Metalcore this year.
Marianas Trench not only makes the list but at #6??? Daaaaaaamn that's good.
Oh yesss.
That time of the year that may or may not fall on the year where I stop binge listening to the same stuff I normally do and get to branch out by like 2cm.
BABY DIVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is back also i love the new aesthetic crash you look so happy and comfortable and i like the idea of you doing other genres of music
also ive got a huge and vast music taste and im a huge billie elish fan and im happy to see her on the list :)
also i may have found some new stuff to listen to so thank you crash for that just thank you
Surprised to see Drab Majesty here!
Holy Cow, I literally only head about the album at #13 last weekend. So awesome to see it on here.
A Different Shade of Blue by Knocked Loose, its been on repeat for me since it was released.
Angie McMahon - Salt
Stella Donnelly - Beware of the Dogs
Anybody else thinking Crash is turning into a less pretentious Fantano, I say this as a massive fan of The Melon, and I’m loving it
Alter Bridge Badflower and Saint Asonia were big snubs man. I respeck tho
I got my dad Thank You Scientist's latest album for Christmas, and as I hoped, it was right up his alley. We're both going to see them live in February!
NO ONE DID TIMESTAMPS YET?😭
Glad to hear you liked Schlagenheim and Fear Inoculum. Those are great!
the valley is a masterpiece man.
I thought list week was over
I mean luke from rocked seemed to like fear innoculum a good bit
They aren't punk persay, but my favorite Japanese band is Cinema Staff. They're a mathy indie band with amazing chops. One of favorite albums ever is their 2017 album "Netsugen".
King gizzard, Rival Sons, and Fever333 are my guesses
Can't find anyone talking about WHO by The Who anywhere. It probably wouldn't be more than a honorable mention, but I haven't seen anyone even mention it and it feels underrated now.
All This Music Will Fade is a solid contender for my song of 2019. In a world so up shit creek with stupidass lawsuits that murder freedom of creativity, it's nice to see The Who show how it should be; the greats stole, and they never faced repercussions, so why should these upstarts, who may have never even heard what their song sounds like? It's not like the music scale is endless anyway. :P
Love your reviews. Long time listener. Liam Gallagher - Why Me? Why Not. Not even an honorable mention? What???
For me King Gizzard Infest The Rats Nest and Royal Republics Club Majesty were the best albums last year, really loved them both
SOLID list, Crash! I’m glad at least half of these were ones I hyped.
Fuck, I missed a new Strung Out album?! Dammit!
What's the most l next big thing for Rock? Industrial Rock? New Grunge?

No Distance Over Time?
Great list, but what did you think of The Cranberries’s final album “In The End”? Personally I really enjoyed it. It was a fitting and heart wrenching send off.
32:37 coincidentally I saw Mastodon, Baroness, and Gojira all at the same gig in Melbourne.
Anyone know what the album on the left at 11:19 is?
>New Brand
>Wears Fantano yellow flannel on a positive review
I should have tweeted Rip Neil Peart.
Hmm, now I wonder what's on your B-sides of the best of 2019 list...
Brockhampton And Billie Eilish? Crash... the TASTE.... yes
41:40
#poundingit
Also, wonder if Crash will do occasional gaming reviews again
