I've been using standard strip miners for no waste, makes for good retriever HS/afk/netflix mining. I like the new buffs mostly, except for skiff and proc nerfs, use to be able to tackle fit them and have options. Orca heavy water costs is about 1mil an hour for tech II core. I like to keep 2 ospreys with burst ecms in my ship bay in case 100 catalysts show up. Can still be bumped out of field in Orca with core by some dedicated bumpers, but at least it's not so easy anymore. Interestingly the porpoise now with drone rigs tech I mines as much or more than a hull rigged orca with tech II indy core, a better option for solo afk miners would be the porp.
you are absolutely life safer, i was thinking, if i use crystal i will loose 34% from the yield but opposite one another thing is cost of crystal ( i havent checked yet) . Again you are a legend
No, I didn't have the data ready for those, but I'll do another video with all the yield/waste per second, time to fill mining hold, crystal lifespans and fits for all the T1 barges soon!
One issue, your yield is NOT safe when the rock is down to its last gasp. Waste comes out FIRST, before you extract. So, for example, if the rock has say 1000 m3 left in it, and you pull 1200 m3 with your strips (600 each), if you hit waste on one of the strips it will result in you pulling 400 m3 and 600 m3 being wasted. If you hit waste on both strips, you pull NOTHING and the rock goes poof. P.S.: Also, make sure you note the Orca yield is up 2% only if you have the Large Industrial Core II active. If you're using the Tech 1 version your yield is down by more than 25%, and if you don't use the Core at all your yield is down about 60-70%.
Yes this seems to be a poor choice by CCP. But it shouldn't be too hard for them to fix it and apply the yield/waste ratio to whatever is left in the rock rather than just having waste calculated first. Laziness on their part, or just a failure to think things through and pay attention to detail? You decide! :p
Yeah I may have to include full spreadsheet numbers for all the fits (including the T1 barges and Venture) in the follow-up video which will also include the new Gas "strip miners"
What skills will we need to learn for the compression unit? I am going ahead with learning the new skills for the Orca, I'll let you know in 45days how that goes.
Dude Great vid very informative Exept when my dumbass heard you say Rock Haul is the capital version of an orca, i then proceded to go to eve and look for this ship i had never heard about.... and i looked and looked and looked till i got frustrated came back to your vid and listented again to my dismay... as you said Rorqual not Rock Haul XD. so had a good laugh there
Interesting vid. I just reinstalled eve after 5 and a half years away and started taking stock of what I have laying about my hangars. How bad is the hi sec ganking these days?
Yeah they do need to fix that, so the last cycle of a rock doesn't have waste calculated first. In asteroid belts with smaller rocks, this is causing a problem! I'm not saying do yield first, just apply a ratio to it so some is waste and some is yield!
New players are mostly unaffected: You fit a Venture with two mining lasers and a medium shield extender and whatever else you want, warp to an asteroid belt and shoot rocks.
Type C are actually quite a good idea. Instead of making the ores in the anomalies "better", CCP now lets you just PVP the "bad" rocks to de-spawn the anomaly and roll a new one. Giving players more options is never a bad thing.
The only big problem I see with this patch is why they DIDN'T give a skill refund to all rorq pilots. I think that's definitely fucked up. You have many players with multiple rorq accounts that are basically useless since they need to train an entire tree of new skills up to exhumers.
Yes it was seriously annoying that the reimbursed SP from the old skills wasn't enough to fully train the new skills, as the new skills have far higher training time multipliers. And they didn't seed the Industrial Cores a week or two before the patch; so every Orca was turned into a hangar decoration until industrialists built the modules! We'll only see the T2 cores hitting market today or tomorrow due to 8 day invention times!
I use an Orca for mining in Hi Sec. With storage containers in the cargo hold and the fleet maintanance bay I could haul 242,500.00 units of ore. This took me 3.5hr's to do. Today it took 9.5 hrs to do the same thing. I have not bought the Core module yet that is $190,000,000. , the requirements to to run the core cost is another $100,000,000 and takes about 40 days to learn. I am a level 4 on my Orka, do you still think this is a good deal? If i do all this will I have the same or a better result with the new system?
The T2 industrial core gives you 75% bonus to drone mining, which takes it to the "+2%" stat listed in the video. I have no idea if that extra 2% will be enough to cover the new Heavy Water fuel costs, as the heavy water prices are all over the place at the moment. But +2% is way, way less of a buff than all the barges got. If you want to solo mine, use a Mackinaw, like we all did back before Orca got hyper-buffed. Orca are supposed to be support ships, buffing entire fleets of other mining ships, not 24/7 AFK miners. They got stupidly over-buffed about 5 years ago and it's taken that long for CCP to realise their error and return them to their former role. And I say this as a player with maxed-out Orca skills. But people will continue to complain no matter what. On the forums we have people actually angry about how much faster their barges are mining. They claim the huge yield buff is causing them to fill up too fast and they're spending too much time in warp unloading at stations. No pleasing some folk, I guess (!)
@@CadePlaysGames I don't think you read all my question to you. A orca is now useless for solo mining. The Mackinaw ore capacity is only 31,500 versus the 172,500 of the Orca and that's not even counting the 70,000 that can be stuffed into containers in the cargo hold and the fleet bay and I make a trip every 3.5 hr's. Currently It takes 9.5hr's to fill my Orca. It would take 7 trips in the Mackinaw to get the same volume. It seams to me that at a 70,000 unit ore hold the Porpoise would be a better ship, ore has it also been cut back like the Orca.
@@waynemassey8902 If you choose to not use an Industrial Core, then yes, your Orca will have awful yield. The entire point of the update was to make Orca back into a fleet command ship instead of a 24/7 AFK miner.
@@CadePlaysGames Excuse my denseness but what I want to know is, if I go to all the trouble of learning the new requirementswill I be able to use my Orca as I did before. You do realize that the Mackinaw's paltry 31,500 ore bay does not compare with the 172,500 ore bay of the Orca and I believe that this is what has got everyone so upset. I do appreciate your input and look forward to your comments
@@waynemassey8902 If you train all the skills up and fit a T2 Industrial Core then your Orca will work as before, with 2% more yield, but at the cost of Heavy Water which is used as fuel for the Core. The new Fuel Bay only carries enough fuel to last about 100 minutes, so you'll have to dock up every 100 mins to pick up more fuel. Right now the prices of Heavy Water are fluctuating wildly so it's very hard to say if that 2% extra yield will be enough to pay for the fuel :)
That happens if it's the last cycle of ore in the asteroid. So, when the ore despawns you sometimes get nothing IF the residue effect happens, as the developers have made Residue get calculated first, before yield. So if there's only a little bit left in the rock, the residue calculation takes it all. They really should change this.
Since always; skill-wise they only need Mining IV, which Alpha can train. However, the only ships that can fit them ARE Omega locked. Just another example of CCP being a bit lazy and not doing Quality Assurance or attention to detail. 🙄

@@Shiftry87 EVE players fear and hate change. Any change. The people with brains simply moved back to Mackinaws. The screamers stayed in their Orcas and refused to adapt.
But it DOES actually result in a functional loss of yield because the new spherical asteroid "belt" design forces the miner to travel more; asteroids are inconveniently spread out and the strip miner is only like 15 km or so all the increased travel will completely negate any conceivable advantage from the increased yields.
Well some of us have been using bookmarks in the belts for almost two decades. Warp to a bookmark, grab the rocks in range, go empty out, warp to the next bookmark. It only takes a few minutes in a fast frigate to make all those bookmarks. And it also has the added benefit of getting your ship away from the warp-in point of the belt.
@@CadePlaysGames Yeah and that was with the actual BELT design. Now the asteroid areas are these spherical spread out shapes so your bookmarks would have to be changed every single day (approximately 2-3 minutes of work depending on the speed of the frigate and your intelligence level).
