k here's what you do. Higgs Anchor installed. Drone speed augments on high slot. (You're not battling so no need for shields) You warp into a belt, align yourself to a quick dock escape point you setup before mining. While aligned you can warp out faster... So an enemy warps in, you hotkey "recall drones" (They return fast). You warp to your escape point (which you're already aligned to) then toggle your micro warp drive on, so it builds up to 1/3 speed, (toggle it off before it cycles over again). When it shuts off, all that momentum is now above 75%. That's all you need to trigger a warp instantly. In less than 3 seconds you're gone. Not enough time for them to net you.
Honestly never took that close of a look at the Higgs Anchor. I know it has other uses like rolling WHs and helps with not getting bumped as hard. At least for me personally, the rigs are the only way to increase mining yield so I take full advantage of it. Losing out on 10% yield might be worth it to some people but more yield means less time in belt meaning less time for gankers to find you. I am confused about couple things. First the drone mods in the highs are for range, the mids are for speed which I assume you meant since you said shields. Also whats the point of the MWD if you are already aligned/moving? Personally I think the slow movement would be a pain going from cluster of asteroids to the next and hopefully your safe spot is in that direction as well. A Higgs Anchor video might be in order, thanks!
@@eventon9372 Yeah mid slots for T2 Multispec shield hardener, T2 EM hardener, etc... (Edit: And a drone nav for speed which makes mining faster at distance since we don't move fast. A couple drone rigs help too. Think of it like this, all that time traveling to and from astroids they could have been mining.) The point of higgs and a 500Mn MWD is that the Higgs will drop your max speed to 18 m/s. The ward drive will change it to 63.24 m/s while it's on. And speed you up fast. When to toggle it off, you're now back to 18m/s but still have all that speed. And you only need 75% of 18m/s to warp. So it instantly warps you. Basially removes the buildup wait time and your only wait is for the Mwd to turn off. 3 seconds. Another edit: Also the Higgs helps with gate travel so you can align in under 3 seconds. Typically faster than most can lock. I run a cloak too so I can bypass that and warp out while the cloak toggles off.
@@HalkerVeil MWD doesnt work that way. Your max speed doesn't reduce when you toggle it off 3 seconds into the cycle. The cycle has to finish in order for the speed to go back to 18m/s. But while that 10 second cycle is happening on the MWD, your max speed is 64m/s the entire time.
This is a great video, thank you. I have completely refitted my Orca on the basis of your video. I really hope CCP don't nerf the orca, my income has already been hit by the mineral changes.
Glad to hear that you feel safer in your new fit! Yes the mineral change has been rough but there is always room for profit when change happens. I just recently started skilling towards reprocessing skills since I have a decent stock pile of ore and even some junk from missions are worth more reprocessed than sold as is. Thanks again and let me know how the fit is treating ya!
I would like to personally thank you for waiting a little bit before switching to a new tab so that those of us in NightGang don't have a full on seizure every time we see a new kill. Great vid btw.
Orcas really benefit from the cheap deadspace hardeners, for a few hundred mil, you gain 10-20% more EHP, and your shield EHP doubles your hull EHP. Additionally, large core defence extenders are amazing for EHP. Two of those, with a resist mod will see you in the 3/4 of a million EHP. Drone rigs and everything else you mention are actively making your tank worse for a relatively mediocre yield gains. Your yield is meaningless if you're space dust. On a side note, orcas also really benefit from deadspace remote reps, and you can fit the smalls to go out to 20-30km for some really fast heals, 129/4s x however many you choose to fit. A properly spider tanked fleet of orcas can fit and tank 30 Talos to a standstill if they are lead well. I've seen fits that can pump out massive RR, even non-overheated. TL:DR; use the ship bonuses to your advantage, and realize that this is the best solo mining ship available for the price/yield performance and safety if you fit it right.
correct and I had it partially updated but not really in the video yet. I updated the fits in the description to show the Gist X-type versions for the Thermal/EM/Kinetic since is such a small price bump for big gains. As for the Multispectral deadspace hardeners, those are VERY expensive mods and buying 2 of either A-type version costs more than the entire Orca fit I have listed. Now if you do get them then yes the Large Shield Extenders will give you aburdly high ehp (750k+)but it all hinges on investing another 1.5b into the most expensive hardeners across the board. The fit I showed with the bulkhead rigs actually nets higher ehp especially with an Abyssal Damage control but you can't save those in fits. Long story short, if you buy the best hardeners possible (roughly 3.5b fit, 750kehp) then Large Shield Extenders are better. If you keep the MS hardener IIs then bulkhead rigs will give more tank than the shield extenders (1.4b, 563k ehp) As for yield, its subjective person to person. With my skills, with the drone rigs I get 1,500m3/min but without the rigs I get 1,018m3/min roughly which is a 33% reduction in yield. To some that might be A LOT, and to others like yourself it could be completely pointless if you get ganked. But then again it will increase the amount of time in space for the Orca to pay itself off as well. I must be missing something with the remote reps, and tbh I have 0 experience with this type of module/content. But it seems to me that the large reps heal at the same rate as the deadspace mediums but just heal for more at the further range as well? I'm lost on that point. I am more of a best bang for your buck type of person and these fits are meant for relatively new/veteran Orca pilots on a budget. Your fit sounds like to deadspace mod the entire fit which is fine but I am trying to make budget friendly fits so people can experience content and feel safe. Its like the eve 80/20 rule, I am stopping at the 4/5 mark because its "good enough" and you are taking it to 5/5 because "its the best". Neither are wrong but just a different mindset.
@@eventon9372 Forgive me, I wasn't really specific. I mean use the specific hardeners for the damage you'll be tanking. You are always better off focusing on your damage holes than you would be if you just splurged on multi-spectral omni mods. Those protect against all damage, but for far less than an X-type hardener of a specific damage class. While I agree, 500m/3/min is nothing to sneeze at, you are only a little behind a fully fitted Hulk with 4000% more health. The overall difference between a buffer fit orca and a yield fit is 500m3 for 400,000 ehp. Which brings me to my second point. Remote reps are key when you need to stretch the EHP budget as far as it will go. Large remote shield boosters do heal more health, but take twice as long to land as mediums, which takes half again as long as smalls. So you can trade large, slow heals, for alot more power, or you can go with smalls, which heal about a 1/4, but do it every 4 seconds. If you know the damage is coming, you can use large slow heals to recover from the damage spikes, otherwise, you want to trade quality for quantity. Multiply those heals by x number of reps per hull x per pilot able to field them. The bonus to range means you don't need to be huffing each other's fumes to land those heals either. Additionally, having multiple RRs per hull means you can spread the labor of spider tanking a fleet around and you are less vulnerable to getting capped out by accident. I agree, both approaches have their benefits, and I see your point about budget, however, if we're talking about 1bil isk hulls, budget kinda goes out the window.
Very nice video. Something that you left out is that you always align to a dockable station or gate so if the nasties come after you, you'll get into warp quicker. It's also a good idea to set CODE. to negative standings.
Thanks for putting this out, it will likely keep me from making an expensive mistake. FWIW, Novus Ordo is another coalition that's currently working HS miners in early 2023. I'm new to Eve Online, but was on Eve Echoes since day 1. It's quite the interesting contrast, and it is a much more serious endeavor in EO. I'm about 6 months away from piloting an Orca well, but your fit has let me know what skills to put in the queue for running fleet mining ops. I will likely drop a remote booster for compression however. 479K EHP as simulated right now, which will I'm sure increase with skills.
Look back at the Orca fit that got npc popped, i bet he was wormhole mining and guess what more than one npc popped him but they dont show them all just the one that killed.
A couple of comments on the "why" for cargo hold expanders... at one point, Orcas were far cheaper than freighters, and quicker as well, so people used them as haulers. I'm sure that still goes on, even though they aren't as cheap as they once were. Nav computers and control range extenders help you keep your drones in the event of a bump, which I have seen more frequently than ganking. If you have extended control range and speed, you have a chance to have a fleet mate scoop your drones before they get stolen. In high sec, I generally don't bother with remote shield repairers. Ganks happen too fast for them to be of much help... just maximize your shield command burst skills and use them. Finally, if you are serious about fleet mining events, the best defense is a small fleet defense force. A couple of assault frigates or a fast locking missile cruiser can kill destroyer gankers faster than they can take out your bait retriever... and the best part of a mining op is seeing new killmarks on said bait retriever.
thanks for the thought out comment! I honestly don't fleet orca hardly at all and as for hauling orca...I did that a few awhile! Until I got ganked in Uedama lol
I fit three things on my orcas... 1) Tank 2) Tank 3) and even more Tank with a little Drone damage sprinkled in. Also got to watch the (ahem) completely random triglavian fleets that slowly erode your shields. Even in high sec, they will show up and say hi. I use mining drones with some EC 300s and different flavors of medium attack drones to make smaller annoyances buzz off.

Out of curiosity, cause most of the mid slot resistance is shield based wouldn’t it be better to have 3x Large Core Defense extenders? More shield in a sense over the hull? Or am I missing something here
9:00 That's a Diamond NPC Kestrel, and there's 3-5 but since they're identical only one shows up on the killmail. He had no chance, they use disruptors and hit like trucks.
Nice and to the point video, thank you. What also helps, I think, is to spend some good time in zkillboard, write down most notorious gankers/ganker corps and add them into your contact list with some specific standings color. Then you can see them appearing/gathering in your system when they just jump in. This may give you an additional time to react.
most definitely! It takes a lot of ships and organization to take down an Orca, and usually its only big corps that do this. Having CODE as bad/terrible standings will make you infinitely safer since they seem to do about 90%+ of the HS mining ganks.
Thanks for the vid. My solo fit is fairly close to yours. I do like running a survey scanner, I feel like it really helps me. Probably more a result of depending on it in smaller ships. I actually put my damage control 2 on and never thought about looking for something like the Abyssal thanks for that. My EHP overheated comes in at 352k. Appreciate the good info.
I roll all my own abyssal damage controls. Its very easy and fun and can actually make you really good money or just give you tons of solid ones for other ships as well.
That's cool! I was thinking about making a series of me just making abyssal mods. Its kind of the same rush as gambling, loot crates or card pack opening for some.
Hey thank you for that Video. It was very interesting! I am using two versions of Orca, one for hauling and one for mining. (in fact I not only using 2 fittings, but two different Orcas). My mining fitting will be renewed in the future, but for my hauling fitting I am using mostly passive systems. That grants some immunity against leech - or neuts - and grants EHP around 400k (heavily skill dependent). As a hauler the only really important High-Slot Modules the Cloaking Device. (Beside the "insta-warp" in combination with the MWD it is at least helpfull to "vanish" in some situations.) On my primary routes I have safe-spots that I warp to when "shit is getting real". Cloaking and making some coffee or watching your favourite series makes it boring for the gankers ... well .... sometimes. On the other hand, this has a price ... the main tank becomes the hull.
My idea for the hauler-fitting was to avoid "bling" in the ship-scanner of the ganker. One thing I learned ist that bling works like an instant trigger. So keep it cheap or at least modules they can not loot (aka. rigs). The principle behing this was that the only thing of interest is the cargo --- and that is a factor you can clearly have influence on.
Thats awesome and gives me the idea to maybe throw together an Orca hauler fit. I have been playing around with a 'Insta-Warp' Cloak Trick Orca. When you can actually let the MWD finish its cycle, then uncloak and insta warp. I'll have to make a video about it soon! Thanks for the comment!
@@eventon9372 The Cloak-Warp move does not really work for the Orca .... unfortunately ... but with the MWD you bring her down to a 10 second Warp .... that might not always help when it comes to gankers, but it reduces your align-time down to 10 Seconds .... what makes it very intereseting for fast hauling.
Atypical route like Amarr -> Jita with lots of jumps reduces the jump-time to 10 sec per jump (instead of - rounded up - 50 seconds) ... that is what I call "fast"
Oh and when it comes to scouting. My Hauling-Orca is always carriyng a scout ship in the hangar .... so one of my alt always has access to a scout shipt when needed.
Bit late to the party but yeah, agree on what populates the lows, nothing else is worth it when flying the ship. I also can't fly an Orca without a 500 MWD for 10s warping down from 38s. One thing I do that I haven't seen other people do is in the rigs, I take the 2 Drone Mining Augmentor II's but instead of a Drone Augmentor I use a Transverse Bulkhead II for another 25% Bonus to Hull Hit Points at the expense of the smallest mining boost your getting from your rigs of 10%. For me that's a sacrifice of about 150m3 per minute and I'm willing to take that for the extra 43k EHP to be extra safe with my 1.2B ship. I don't use a MTU, but I always bring a Mobile Depot to refit my ship so I can use a survey scanner, tractor beam, 2 mining boosts, remote reppers (lock em up and save a hulk!) or even pull my MWD for an extra multispectral resist if I'm not going to be able to get away etc. Also, thanks for the great idea on the Abyssal Damage Control!
I run a 4 boost orca in HS. Yes you give up a chunk of tank but its the"jack of all trades" orca. If its just me and my alts i run 3 mining, 1 shield if it me and vet miners then i run 2 mining, 2 shield. If its me and Rookie miners then i run 2 mining, 1 shield and 1 skirmish. Your thinking why skirmish.... agility means nothing to an orca its a 1 second align time reduction. 2 reasons. It gets newbies off grid faster, you know as well as i do newbie players usually hurt more then help. secondly the different types of boosts have different visuals when they see a skirmish + shield bubble coming from an orca they start to think its a bait ship. Any momentary pause or hesitation on their part is valuable time to prepare
Hell yea, I dig it. Never thought of using the agility bursts. Likely because I am not skilled for it :P I have only done a couple fleets and never ganked during it, yet... Thanks for the insight!

By far one of my favorite videos to make! Would love to get some feedback on my fits and what you guys think about some of the silly zkillboard fits as well! Don't forget that I use a MTU instead of Tractor Beams and always invest in an Abyssal Damage Control, its worth it! Fly Safe! o7
You and I have spoke in miner chat. I have two orcas with 270 ehp......even in .6 never been ranked on over 50 attempts. These ppl are doing something wrong
@@giacomorestivo5210 it definitely depends on which region of space you are mining in. It makes sense the mining belts within 8 or so jumps from major hubs see more ganks, especially in The Forge region.
what/ do they try to drain your capacitor? or is it such a long process that they rather choose not to? Should I put a large core defense field extender or am i being too spooky?
I too fit my wormhole orca very similar to yours, the only other thing I do is keep at least one flight of EC drones in my drone hangar. That way if I get ganged up on, I can target the point and sic my EC drones on him and hopefully get away with the MWD trick. It's also a case for having a heavy energy neutralizer in one of your high slots at least.
Pretty good idea with the EC drones. Sounds like you got your WH fit pretty well figured out. These attacks on Orcas are usually over within 30 seconds since its all HS and you just need to survive until Concord shows up. Not sure if having a heavy energy neut would make a big difference in HS but I am sure it does in WH systems when the fights could me more drawn out. Thanks for the comment!
Being that the majority of ganks are pulled off with Catalysts, is there any merit to replacing a couple of the mids with Magnetometric ECM modules? Or is the targeting too slow on the Orca to make that a viable option?
yup! But just a heads up, CCP has mentioned multiple times that they are going to change the Orca to be more fleet friendly and will likely nerf their solo mining. It could happen this month or in 6 months, I'm not sure when but I figured I would give you a heads up before you saved up for a 1.5b isk ship that gets changed soon after..
Orcas can't use mining lasers, only mining drones. (silly right?) but they are designed to be fleet boosting/ore holding ship platforms. Though there are talks of them getting reworked soon so I might hold off on buying one just yet :P
The guy who got killed by the kestrel probably got caught with one of the unbreakable scrams and didn't know to either kill the Bantam repper first or carry disposable ECM drones for the scram boat.
I normally go out with an Orca, two hulks, and a Bustard hauler to pick up jettisons when I fleet mine. On top of that, I like to cloak a Marauder and wait for any unsuspecting clowns to come in and want to play. No gank attempts thus far, but I did uncloak once or twice when some frigates came in...they left shortly thereafter.
Cool orca video. If I remember correctly, there was also an active shied boost fit with these 2 x super large 'auxill.. something' . It needed max skill to be fitted but it was almost unbreakable because you can carry tons of boosters with you if you need. For the solo kills, I think you could always fit a neut in the highs. Anyway tx for the video and good luck.
Cool idea. I heard of something similar for pvp or non-HS fits. In high sec you are getting hit hard with 20 - 50 catalysts and trying to out heal that within 30 seconds isn't happening! lol Thanks for the idea!
The X-Large ancil boosters help you only if you are not in high sec. If you are facing a catalyst gank, the buffer is your savior, not the active tank.
great video now the orca kill at 8.50 its a fob rat the thing is zkill will only display 1 ship of each type in a fob rats at belt i have seen it before with 4-5 kestrels but only one shows on kill i tend to use an orca fitted with 3 shield extender 2s for rigs shove 2 pirate Multispectrum Shield Hardener ( 1 large t2 abistle shield or 500nm to cloakey jump)and patch the resits with D/C and bulk head in the lows shield bursts cloak then a set of Mid-grade Nirvanas and any other relivent implants for 1 tanky multi use transport
I'm still wondering about some kills. One guys fit showed 180k damage. I turned off all damage modifiers and still had 240 ehp. I think some ppl are sacrificing orcas as zkillboard boosting. I also witnessed suspect baiting outside stations with orcas and them getting webbed/scammed and not being able to get away in mutual combat
possibly, but some of these fits have cargo expanders which not only don't give extra tank, but also reduce your hull hp so they are double screwing themselves. Also some of these guys might not have max shield/armor/hull defense skills either. And I actually do know a guy that suspect baits in an Orca at Jita 4-4 and actually gets a crazy amount of kills with his weird fits. One day I might cover them. Thanks for the comment my man!

4:00 Orca has taken just over 36k damage before it went down, according to Zkillboard. According to Pyfa, Orca with DC and bulkheads in lows has 70k raw hp just on the hull. How is that possible? Should we not trust Zkillboard damage statistics?
well.... no. lol the 'damage taken' is the raw hp damage taken w/o resists. Sometimes it will show less hp taken if the victim already took damage prior and didnt repair or if they take damage, jump to another system and then get killed.
@@eventon9372 Yes, I know that 'damage taken' is raw hp. That's why it doesn't make sense that it was less than the amount of raw hull hp with that fit. I guess prior damage must be the reason.
@@eventon9372 its actually sooo good.. was waiting months for my second toon to train for a rattlesnake... only to find someone in my corp using an orca to complete lvl 4 missions, its like the best tank!! it has drone Damage boosts!! and if you max stuff like drone interfacing ect it really does delete them battleships.. one thing i would suggest is at 50% shield engage warp.. cus you know the orcas slow ass aint getting out of there any time soon. and putting a 500MWD instead of a shield boost just aint worth it
Yeah. The Reinforced Bulkheads and the Damage Control module are a must. People who don't do that - simply don't know what they are doing. I read about that in some tanking post on the forums and have done it ever since. Anything that has an Ore Hold - doesn't really need to expand it's cargo hold. I haven't used my Orca since I stopped playing my old accounts in 2012 so there's a lot I don't remember and - there is a lot that's changed since then. I'd really have to do a lot of research and look into things before I tried to play with the Orca again - but - I've quit EVE over the latest patch where CCP fucked with the High Sec Ores. Fuck those guys. I can deal with other players but having CCP out to get me - screw that. I'll play something else. But - talking Tanks is interesting. Now - what I tend to do besides the RB and DC is to put on a lot of shield extenders in my mids and rigs - to increase my passive tank refresh rate with maybe one multi shield hardener. I don't use more than one SH because of the Capacitance Usage. I also never did solo mining in belts with an Orca. Back when I used it - I had 12 accounts, most of which had 3 characters. I had recently retired from my job as a Systems Administrator - and had trained myself to be one - by building a network of cheap old computers in my house. So - I had at that time - a number of systems that would play the game and had some of them set up so I could task switch from one to the other, using a KVM switch on some systems as well as multiple keyboards, mice and monitors for some of my others. Then on the better systems I could run multiple copies of EVE and alt Tab between them as I didn't like running EVE in multiple windows. My biggest problem with doing this was air flow management for my room as it got hot in there with all those computers and the A/C being in the next room. The most basic fact behind my play style was that I don't like playing with other people. Other people are a pain in the ass. I don't mind helping them - I'm glad to do that - but putting up with their crap I can do without. Here - because I was one person - my corporations stood little chance to be competitive in a war dec - so my solution to that - was to simply play another corporation if that happened to one of them. My personal philosophy of mining was that Mining IS a PVP activity. So all that I did was based on that. This was never about money or losing ships - it was about - _losing_ . I don't like to lose. The way I see it - if the Gankers got me - regardless of what it cost them to do it - they won. If they didn't get me - I won. I came to EVE from Planetside (the original). I like playing against other people. Mission Running in EVE - I find boring. I have mined in Lo Sec but ... there is simply a tremendous amount of - work - you have to do to keep from getting caught and ... after the initial challenge of doing it wears off - it becomes a giant pain in the ass. So - I did my mining in High Sec where I could count on Concord and only had to tank the Gankers until they got there. The thing with a tank - is that it has to be part of an over all plan. Here - what I did was look at the map using Pilots In Space. I found a quiet system that was like 1.0 or .9 maybe .8 and set up shop there. Then I would run missions until I got one with rocks in it. I would then mine that mission space. If someone I didn't know came into my system I watched what was going on and began using DScan to check for Combat Scanner Probes. Detecting probes would be reason for the op to warp to the station. I kept book marks for my jet cans - so I could go back for that later. If I didn't turn the mission in - and just forfeited the bonus - the mission space would stay open too. My mining op consisted of the Orca - which was equipped with tractor beams in 2012 to act as a central collection point. Then I had 4 or 5 mining barges - usually Covetors (in 2012) and a hauler. The miners would mine into jet cans and the Orca would tractor them to it and hold the ore in it's Ore Hold. Then I had a hauler taking the ore from the Orca to a nearby base to keep the Orca from filling up. The hauler could also mount a micro warp drive to move around, a tractor beam and a salvager. The rats from the mission were cleaned up before the mining started by the mission runner. If I had rats come into the system I'd either just tank them or if I killed them - tractor their wrecks and loot and salvage right away without leaving wrecks lying about. I do not have combat drones out all the time. I launch them to kill rats, then return them to their ship, so they don't spontaneously attack something I don't want them to. With all those ships to manage by myself I may have been tired but I was never not to busy to be bored. .
awesome story! Yea EVE is an interesting catch 22. It has amazing PvE and PvP elements but they clash with other hard. So its always a give n take. Luckily I am relatively new to EVE so I don't have any established playstyles that CCP has 'ruined' for me...yet lol I enjoy mining but the income is a joke to literally any other kind of content unless you are running 12 accounts at once :P Well there is always a spot in my random fleets for someone like you, hope you come back!
What does a tanky orca like this get in terms of m3 per 30min or so? Not saying tank should be sacrificed, simply curious as I am considering moving out of nullsec
it highly depends on your mining drone skills, your industrial command ship skill, and your rigs. I have almost maxed mining drone skills and 4/5 industrial command ship. With the mining rigs and augmented mining drones its roughly 1,500m3 per min with all 5 drones. If you remove the rigs and just max tank, its roughly 1000/m3 per min, at least with my skills.
I like to run a slew of large shield extenders, then a after burner to get around and not take to long jumping from gate to gate. I like a DC2 then a bulk head 2. I run up to two bulk head rig 2's then run one mining drone enhancer 2 rig. I run mining drones 2 at max skills.
I'm definitely sure there is some skill involved. Its just strange I've seen active ganker switch between those 2 fits. I guess it depends on the target and the number of gankers involved.

When you have 20-30 ships blasting you at once, they'll chew through 500,000 ehp and pop you long before the po-po shows up. Prevention is key, mine in a low-pop system and get to know the locals. That way newcomers stand out. If you see 20+ people come into system when the population is normally 8, it's time to dock up.
i know the vid is 2years old hahaha was watching it while cooking you know some noise on the background and i started thinking, would a fully smartbomber(like max tank fit with smartbombs) orca be effective against the catalyst drops? those cats will be paperthin and while concord deals with all that if u remove some dps u might surive? i mean for the catalyst to be applying good to u they will be pretty close even bumping u while spamming shit in local chat so i dont know really as i dont really fly orcas or mine that much, but i have been into dropping thrashers and stuff like that into lone battlehsips he couldnt remove Dps fast enough if he had many smartbombs we would hae been like popcorn on his screen haha
Your fleet fit would do better if you have a large ancill and a t2 large remote rep, over heated its about the same rep power and free's up a high for an auto target mod so you can lock 2 more things
I didnt think about ancill shield boosts! Like I said in the video I have done hardly any fleet ops let alone get ganked in one lol I'll have to keep it in mind and I do like the utility of it too.
I am exploring implants and clones right now in the game since I havent used them often tbh outside of the normal +3/4/5 versions. I would say Nirvanas likely for Shield HP and the Inherent Implants 'Noble' Mechanic MCs for 1-6% Hull hp would make a significant difference in ehp. As for the other ones you can do some of the fleet support and/or more shield implants.
There are still a lot of good ships you can fly as an alpha. As for lack of mining ships & industrial skills for a F2P player, it's to help hinder mass botting free accounts

Best way is to mine with an alt hulk + orca, have frigate with two webs in the hold of the orca. If you see local spike of reds or just spike of 5-6-10 people, switch out the hulk with the frigate, start warp to with the orca and use the frigate to double web it. It will insta warp. If you afk mine with the orca, then you are going to die sooner or later, unless you pack it to 600k EHP with all tank t2 rigs and lower damage control + reinforced bulks.

The thing about having a "hard" build where all your stuff simply just does +stat to your base toon it just takes them 10 minutes to kill you rather than 4 or 5 and that is a almost for sure thing. You didn't mention any "restore" mods anywhere on the build..... If it takes 10 min mins. to kill you and your saying pretty much only hope for you is to tread water till the lifeguard gets there then why wouldn't you want any restore mods in it? Lets say you have a +shield stat on lets say 2000 extra shields, is that better or worse than a item that recharged your shield 20 points a sec. Those 2 are exactly the same stats if it takes them 10 minutes to kill you cuz 20 x 10 = the 2000 original +stat item you used. BUT you have a CHACE of the "regenerate" things "keeping" you alive because when they are hitting you you lose points...... but now when they NOT doing damage, you GET points ...... Even if the +2000 hp and the +20hp/sec for 20 seconds are the same amount.... you hp is moving UPWARDS every tick you don't take any dmg. If you can hold out for 10+ minutes vs a ganker and that's your only "move"..... then if you had some "regen" you could in theory sit there all night . Back when I played WoW I had a druid doing 2v2 arenas.... the fight literally ended after the VERY LONG time limit ran out finally...... with me and the dps guy trying to kill me, both of us standing in the middle of the map dancing because he finally gave up even trying to hit me anymore..... and I couldn't kill him ( gonna heal him to death?? lol). Im not saying put a whole BUILD of restore shit..... but if you going to bang you head against a wall for 10 mins knowing you prolly gonna die anyway...... don't do a 100% "rigid" build.... do some over time regen..... you could just end up in middle of map flyin around each other lol. Should at least have SOME kind of option to heal up some of the damage rather than get beat to death with a club . If you gonna die, make him work for 40 mins - hour to get his "fix" lo
thanks for the comment my man! The reason why I dont have any shield boosters on this fit is because when you get ganked in High Security space in EVE, you have about 10-30 seconds to survive until Concord shows up to kill them. I agree if you were in anywhere but Hi Sec then you would likely want some way to restore your shield hp. In WoW terms, if you attack someone in the middle of their capital city, you probably have 2 - 10 seconds before guards show up and start 2-3 shotting you. Same thing here. Because the attacker knows they only have so much time they will try to burst you down immediately. Imagine 10 Chaos Bolts coming at you within 10 seconds, would you rather use 2 defensive cds for 80% damage reduction, or use 1 defensive for 40% and a HOT that ticks every 5 seconds? You only have to survive long enough for the guards to come in EVE in Hi Sec, in other parts then yes you want options to for a longer fight.
It would be nice if Eve would restrict anyone with low rep from entering an area to harass players with ganking in high sec. Just have concord kill on sight player who is a criminal, like code. New players being ganked for mining in high sec really turns them off to the game and you would think CCP would want to increase the player base. Why not use warp stabilizers?
I agree, the criminal mechanic and concord needs to get reworked somehow. I know there are rules against manipulating concord, but how is flying fast ships and literally undocking them to only gank newbros/freighters any different? Might need its own video. Did you mean warp stabilizers on the Orca? I dont run them mainly cuz its impossible to shake off the 40 catalysts with scrams/disruptors, or a single ship with a faction scram can keep you put anyway.
@@eventon9372 I wonder if we could get a large enough population of Eve to pressure CCP to enact criminal mechanics so if you are red you can't enter that high sec space without being destroyed and podded by Concord. I see what you mean by warp stabs in Orca if you have that many its done. I did like the cloak and run idea. Thanks!
If you don't have a higgs ancor you're just a noob. His scrambler is nothing against it when you toggle your drive. Bumping is the problem. The slower and heavier you are, the less they can bump you. The faster you can warp out.
@ 5:31 that guy actually baits people in high sec he killed my fully tanked orca before he tricks u to attack him on his alt with drones makes u pay ransom and or eject to steal ur ship
True, nothing compared to a hull tanked Orca. I guess there are 2 schools of thought when it comes to Orca fits. 1. Max yield means I spend less time in belt (by 33%) compared to the tanked Orca. I am less likely to get found/ganked being in belt for 3 hours instead of 4.5 hours with the tanked Orca. 2. Max tank Orca. The sheer tank and ehp might ward off gankers from even bothering you after being scanned down. Plus you have a higher chance to survive when you are ganked. Thats really it. I prefer the first way since I pay attention to local closely and have 10 second align if they show up. If the gankers are motivated enough, there is no way to out tank their damage since they always have more alts. Not to mention they are damn good at figuring out ehp and what to bring. If you are ganked, no matter what your fit is, they will succeed 95% of the time. Neither fitting style is wrong, just different.

k here's what you do.
Higgs Anchor installed. Drone speed augments on high slot. (You're not battling so no need for shields)
You warp into a belt, align yourself to a quick dock escape point you setup before mining.
@@eventon9372 It does work that way. Try it :)
Plenty of vids out there showing how. I'm probably not explaining it well.
No worries! I hope you learned a few things in the video as well!
If you keep the MS hardener IIs then bulkhead rigs will give more tank than the shield extenders (1.4b, 563k ehp)
As for yield, its subjective person to person.
479K EHP as simulated right now, which will I'm sure increase with skills.
dude thank you, this information is huge . . a great starting point.
Glad I could help. Dont forget to 'red' CODE and keep an eye on local

Well done video w/ good content. I miss mining in my orca sometimes.
Orcas got really pricey recently but if you already have one, take it out for a spin!
If its just me and my alts i run 3 mining, 1 shield
if it me and vet miners then i run 2 mining, 2 shield.

@@VitaBjornen sure thing man, my IGN is Weaselly Eventon. That brings up a good idea for possible videos on community made fits. thanks!
Being that the majority of ganks are pulled off with Catalysts, is there any merit to replacing a couple of the mids with Magnetometric ECM modules? Or is the targeting too slow on the Orca to make that a viable option?
@@TOEC it's too low to make a difference really, but if you're in a wormhole, low sec, or null sec a burst jammer might help
Thanks for that I'm looking at getting my first orca for mostly solo mining in hi sec
Thank you, great video. I am pretty new to eve what i do not understand, why do you not use any mining laser?
Orcas can't use mining lasers, only mining drones. (silly right?) but they are designed to be fleet boosting/ore holding ship platforms. Though there are talks of them getting reworked soon so I might hold off on buying one just yet :P
@@eventon9372 ok, thank you. I have so much to learn in eve😁.
Great Vid, I have learnt loads about the fit thanks, one thing I don't understand is why you don't align anyway its save so much time.
The guy who got killed by the kestrel probably got caught with one of the unbreakable scrams and didn't know to either kill the Bantam repper first or carry disposable ECM drones for the scram boat.
I havent heard of this before but its good know!
In high sec you are getting hit hard with 20 - 50 catalysts and trying to out heal that within 30 seconds isn't happening! lol
Thanks for the idea!
The X-Large ancil boosters help you only if you are not in high sec. If you are facing a catalyst gank, the buffer is your savior, not the active tank.
great video now the orca kill at 8.50 its a fob rat the thing is zkill will only display 1 ship of each type in a fob rats at belt i have seen it before with 4-5 kestrels but only one shows on kill
i tend to use an orca fitted with 3 shield extender 2s for rigs shove 2 pirate Multispectrum Shield Hardener ( 1 large t2 abistle shield or 500nm to cloakey jump)and patch the resits with D/C and bulk head in the lows shield bursts cloak then a set of Mid-grade Nirvanas and any other relivent implants for 1 tanky multi use transport

Thx for giving the fits for orca love the info
Luckily I am relatively new to EVE so I don't have any established playstyles that CCP has 'ruined' for me...yet lol I enjoy mining but the income is a joke to literally any other kind of content unless you are running 12 accounts at once :P
Well there is always a spot in my random fleets for someone like you, hope you come back!
Forgot the multi shield hardener. Whoops.

I've ganked a bit. Its not as easy as it looks. There's usually two fits: full skills/implants, T2. And intro fit, T1
Orcas can use smart bombs ... I made a fortune smart bombing emerging conduits
I'm definitely sure there is some skill involved. Its just strange I've seen active ganker switch between those 2 fits. I guess it depends on the target and the number of gankers involved.

abandon the wrecks? destroy them with scout drones? ignore them in high sec, as they won't really touch a decently tanked Orca?
When you have 20-30 ships blasting you at once, they'll chew through 500,000 ehp and pop you long before the po-po shows up.
Prevention is key, mine in a low-pop system and get to know the locals. That way newcomers stand out. If you see 20+ people come into system when the population is normally 8, it's time to dock up.
Always ask, is x worth your orca? Cans, loot, drones, leave them. Great video, thanks.

i know the vid is 2years old hahaha was watching it while cooking you know some noise on the background and i started thinking, would a fully smartbomber(like max tank fit with smartbombs) orca be effective against the catalyst drops? those cats will be paperthin and while concord deals with all that if u remove some dps u might surive? i mean for the catalyst to be applying good to u they will be pretty close even bumping u while spamming shit in local chat so i dont know really as i dont really fly orcas or mine that much, but i have been into dropping thrashers and stuff like that into lone battlehsips he couldnt remove Dps fast enough if he had many smartbombs we would hae been like popcorn on his screen haha
What about implants? In highsec I would use a mid grade set for extra who.
Ehp
I am exploring implants and clones right now in the game since I havent used them often tbh outside of the normal +3/4/5 versions. I would say Nirvanas likely for Shield HP and the Inherent Implants 'Noble' Mechanic MCs for 1-6% Hull hp would make a significant difference in ehp. As for the other ones you can do some of the fleet support and/or more shield implants.

Best way is to mine with an alt hulk + orca, have frigate with two webs in the hold of the orca. If you see local spike of reds or just spike of 5-6-10 people, switch out the hulk with the frigate, start warp to with the orca and use the frigate to double web it. It will insta warp. If you afk mine with the orca, then you are going to die sooner or later, unless you pack it to 600k EHP with all tank t2 rigs and lower damage control + reinforced bulks.
if you use mdw warp trick, it reaches warp speed in about 5-6 sec, way faster then any of the normal mining barges or exhumers
By the time you switch out and duel/web yourself, you're caught. Use Cloak+MWD trick as demonstrated by the video :)
No amount of tank matters. If CODE/RIOT don’t get you the first time, they just bring more ships next time. They ruined the game for me.
yea it can be rough out there, but there are plenty of systems where CODE doesnt roam. Even within 8 or so jumps from Jita. I just check systems on zkillboard for CODE activity or just go to non-caldari space

You only have to survive long enough for the guards to come in EVE in Hi Sec, in other parts then yes you want options to for a longer fight.
thanks for the info :)
3000 meters or 3 kilometers. Not 3000 kilometers. Orca can't reach that far just saying.
350k is weak ass tank for an orca just sayin.
