To truly appreciate Billie you have to experience her live. Her BBC1 Performances are stellar. Her cover of Michael Jackson's "Bad" is a wonder to behold and her version of Rob Dickinson's "End of the World" is soul-crushingly beautiful and appropriate for the current state of our world. Her performances on Howard Stern or she and Finneas' Mahogany Sessions are truly worth your time.

"End of the World" is a grab-your-hanky track. You'd think it was written for her. Finneas (sub) harmonizes in an incredible and selfless way and kills it on piano.

Idontwannabeyouanymore expresses her feelings about having anxieties, body dysmorphia, Tourette's, learning disabilities and depression, as she is singing to herself in the mirror.
Her brother was the musical prodigy before her, but her vocal styling and edgy lyrics and videos gave his songwriting and production skills that oomph to propell them to stardom.
On a lighter note, Finneas and Billie used to do a funny little dance together on stage during the chorus of My Boy.

She and her brother are pure genius!!! They wrote and produced (wwafawdwg 2nd album) in their childhood bedroom in the house in which they still live in in LA CALI. Billie suffered severe depression and suicidal thoughts up until the end of 2019 because of becoming famous so quickly. She also deals with sleep paralysis, reoccurring nightmares (beginning of 2019), tourettes, and synesthesia. They got 10 grammies between then2 of them. Billie got all 4 top awards and finneas got producer of the year. He also has his ep blood harmony and produces for many other artists/songs. He is 22 now and billie is 18. Finneas wrote ocean eyes and when the parties over. Billie and finneas wrote the rest 50/50. Ocean eyes was recorded when she was 13 and done because her dance teacher wanted them to write a song to dance to in the end of year recital. They shared it to sound cloud and got 1000 hits in 1 day. They were homeschooled and her entire family is vegan. Billie has never eaten meat, ever. Check out all of the above mentioned songs. You MUST check out her live performances. They also wrote the new bond theme No Time to Die which they perdormed at the oscars. They may walk away with an oscar next year. She plays the ukelele, piano and dabbles with guitar. She removed her nails to play instruments on the tour which you know got postponed until July 2021. Yeah I am one of those billie fans. Great reaction new subscriber!

It was really interesting to listen to you talk about the EP as if it was published after she got famous due to her album... that twists stuff a little. The EP came first, and what you’re saying about putting out stuff she doesn’t want to be out - don’t have to worry about that with Billie. She has plenty of songs that are not officially released floating around and openly talks about “shit we put on sound cloud” before ocean eyes... if anything there’s been more of an issue with the record asking her to not include a song (about a specific person) so instead she wrote another song which she dedicated to the person in hindsight and only people who were fans of that person picked up on it as the beginning of the song sounds like the beginning of one of his songs... anyway, my point is, I totally see why you’d be suspicious but yes, the EP came out before the album. Way before! Oh, and also. Her T-shorts and all that stuff - it’s her own shit. Right at the very beginning she talked about wanting a clothing line and when asked what she’d be doing if she wasn’t doing music she’s answered “be a stylist” (when she was around 14), “be a car designer” (when she was around 16), and “be a film director” (when she was 17). She started her own clothing line card BLOSH before her records blew up (although she obviously already had quite a fan base already). So again, with “merch”, she took it into her own hands. It’s her designs, and her directing the visual aspect of her brand as well. Her brother Finneas has often talked about this in interviews, that this is all her. He may collaborate on production and song writing, and perform along her, but that it’s all her vision, not his. And she was very adamant about styling herself, and one can see her logo on the stuff they wear. She’s got a stylist now but as with the “directors” for her music videos, she tells them what she wants, not the other way around. So basically, everyone just kind of becomes an executive assistant in her vicinity lol. She directs her own music videos now but has said she wasn’t allowed to at the beginning as she was too inexperienced, so instead she would either storyboard her vision and tell the directors EXACTLY how she wanted it, or even film it on her phone with her mum as a stand in in their garden, in order to tell the “directors” exactly what and when the camera should be doing at what point etc. I’m not too worried about her being told what to do when it comes to her creative expression. Especially when you see her interviews as well it’s clear she just does what she wants, and it’s so obvious that she doesn’t feel the need to justify herself or her decisions. Okay I went off on a tangent and forgot where I was even going with this comment so imma stop typing and keep watching, s’cuse me.

I doubt it’s on actual vinyl but u HAVE to hear her cover of Michael Jackson’s Bad it’s unbelievable!!!

  • @nomadine85
    @nomadine85 4 роки тому +40

Ah, if you didn’t like Bad Guy the video you’re probably going to like her other videos. That video is the most “pop” of her videos and although she’s the one who edited it, and I personally do enjoy her being silly and the colours in some of the scenes as well as the bellies etc, it’s probably my least favourite of her music videos.
I’d say my favourite music video of hers is When the Party’s Over. Jeez. It’s so good. The chills I get every fucking time. All one shot. And yup, it is real.
A couple of other music videos that are up there in my top favourites might be a bit too much for you if you don’t like choppy shocking visuals, but oh man. They’re so good.
There’s “Bury a friend” which was storyboarded by her and directed by the director of the horror movie “the conjuring” (if I remember the name of the film correctly), so that’s also why people in your chat were saying that this is the “exorcist” song.
Then there’s the vertical video for “You should see me in a crown” which I fucking adore, but again, might be a bit much for some - though I must admit I’ve laughed my arse off at some guys squirming and closing their eyes. No CGI, by the way. She dislikes CGI as much as she dislikes auto tune. While effects for legitimate creative reasons are ok, she’ll avoid it at all cost, including her comfort, and does all her own “stunts”.
I really like the music video for “All the good girls go to hell”, which is a little bit of a continuation of the “bury a friend” video, at least at first. And the things she’s carrying are real, as well as the tar, and were so heavy that she was bruised for ages. The end is CGI (she gets annoyed about it) but the fires are real. She also insisted on it being real footage of her flying on a harness with wind etc rather than have it be just CGI. Basically, if CGI is needed in order to tell the story, she will still insist on the majority possible to be as real as possible.
Another thing I’d add is that she WANTS people to feel uncomfortable. She deliberately works her way through fears, and talked about how that’s the aspect of the nightmares which take place when we all fall asleep...
Then there’s video for “Xanny”, which is also one shot all the way through, and in terms of breathable negative space and drawing you in, yet shocking you, yet feeling so smooth and soothing... you might enjoy that one. Did you pick up on that song’s anti-drug stance without being preachy, by the way? So good. She directed this music video herself.
Another one she directed is “Everything I wanted” which is a single that makes my heart clench every time. The visuals make me giddy when I watch it because they’re so consistently and perfectly aligned with the smallest details of the layers of the music which I genuinely think only someone who created the music themselves could pinpoint so perfectly. It’s like editing dance, but musical, but visual.
Ohh, and then there’s the music video for “Hostage” (she dances in this one) and “Lovely” (with Khalid - this is a single) as well as “Bellyache” and “Watch” from when she was younger, which are all not as choppy, but still nice.
And then there’s ocean eyes, of course! The first video, which was a birthday present from her parents for her 14th birthday. And although at first glance seemingly “low budget and simple” there are creative consistencies one finds in her highly produced videos as well, so don’t be fooled.
There are others as well. Trust me, this is a long and deep rabbit hole. Because then come the live performance videos. And the interviews.

I did the exact same thing when I backtracked nervously to this record about a year ago. Also, you may have just convinced me to get a turntable again after a 20-odd year break. Thanks!

We talk to each other about it, and most of us, if we know we need it, actually want help with it. Hey! Came across your channel when you reacted to Billie Eilish and I love how genuine and funny you are in your reactions! I know this might not be your usual type of music but consider reacting to Pentatonix. They are an acapella group that does pop covers as well as some of their own original music and many times when listening I have to remind myself that this is acapella because the sound is that full and complete even without instruments! I noticed you had a couple of their albums in your store so it shouldn't be too hard to get. My favorite songs that they covered are Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen), Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen), and Imagine (John Lennon). They also have some amazing originals too such as Can't Sleep Love, Run to You, Misbehavin', and Take me Home.

Also, she did lyric breakdown for idontwannabeyouanymore for Genius.
You would find it noteworthy for two reasons
      1) Her maturity for her age is on full display. She's got more self-awareness than many 40 year olds
      2) She can "just sing" acapella like it requires no thought or effort or skill. It just falls out of her.
And then you can watch her sing it to herself in the mirror and about die inside.

do you take requests for “old guy reacts”? this stream was absolute gold and more then a pleasure to watch. i know people have already said it but i also wanted to say thank you for having such a open mind when it comes to some of the music coming out this generation. believe it or not, a lot of professionals dislike billie for bringing on a wave of what they call “whisper singing” because of her soft tone. while it’s true, her technique is still incredibly hard to master. anyways, i love watching people fall in love with billie and recognize her talent. i appreciate your take and i have a request if you turn out to be open to them. thanks again! xx

Most of Billie’s music videos are quite simple. Check out when the party’s over, hostage, everything I wanted (a newer one not on the albums). Also listen to her new bond song and some of her covers.. Bad (Michael Jackson) and You don’t get me high anymore (Phantagram).

I struggle to refer to this as an ep. The format suggests like you highlighted “cash in” but couldn’t be further more from the truth. There’s absolutely no filla on this record. Not many artists can boast this on their first release ( it might be compiled to come across that way ) but it’s an exceptional recording. Her writing with her bothers ability to think musically outside the box, makes them an absolute force. The relationship is obviously that of support that he looks out for his little sister the way big brothers should. Not limiting her, allowing her to be free to express her fears to show that these a levels of anxiety exists in so many peoples life, that she’s OK to be this

@@gdawg1585 I think because these people think that to sing well or to be an artist you just have a huge vocal range 😂 so they are totally ignorant about music and singing…they should know that a Whitney Houston vocalists have never written a song … and these people are ignorant because there are so many legendary singers of the past who didn't have a wide vocal range but a voice so soft and unique that as soon as you heard them you knew who they were … before I was listening Norah jones .. what a soft and beautiful voice … and I prefer a singer who sings beautifully like Billie her unique genre and style, than a Demi lovato etc who always screams … I can't hear her when she sings.. having a wide vocal range doesn’t mean = you are the best, a better singer is when in that range she knows how to be unique and create a beautiful sound with her tone .. for example Whitney Houston "the voice" is not the singer with the widest vocal range, in fact she has never been the voice broader, yet she was called “the voice” of the history..because she had a tone and gave a color to her voice that was amazing… amazing powerful voice.

I think it's fair to say the song writing is really a collaboration between Billy and Finneas but he is writing with her in mind rather than himself. So he brought a degree of musical maturity that probably wasn't quite there yet in Billy. Having said that, he was only 19 anyway!

She has 1 EP - All my demons greeting me as a friend and 2 Albums - Infections of a different kind (step 1) and A different kind of human (step 2). She’s a 23 year old Norwegian and she’s amazing. I don’t know if that’s something you’d do, but would you react to her videos maybe in chronological order all in one sitting? I’ve not seen anybody do that and that would be really cool. I’d be happy to put together a playlist of all the official videos in the correct order so you can genuinely react to them for the first time etc. And I’d happily create a playlist for her best live performances as well, which I’m pretty sure are going to get you to yell goddammit how can a single person be this fucking good. 😁 I know I did. But what do I know. Just a suggestion :)

A really apt comment about ABBA, they never produced a bad song, and similarly Billie and Finneas don't know how to write a bad song. There is also one similarity - ABBA got plenty of hate and mockery, and Billie gets the same. In spite of this ABBA proved to be classics and their music stood a test of time, the same will be with Billie!!!
