I live in Istanbul, Turkey. I had bought all shares of my grandfather’s fields in Bursa and I decided to plant fruit trees a year ago. But I needed to learn pruning and grafting. I spent my last winter watching videos and learning how to take care of my little babies. I’ve learnt so much from you, being a city guy, I think I did a great job. My trees are successfully pruned, morever, some people asked me to prune theirs since my trees look very pretty. I grafted peaces, plums, walnuts and cherries three weeks ago and I had to come back to Istanbul right after that. My dad just called me and said ALL MY GRAFTINGS ARE SUCCESSFUL!!! I made it thanks to you! Lots of love and respect from Istanbul! ❤

Thank you great instructions.I have a 1st year Starkrimson cherry tree that was just a bare rod with buds after loosing all its leaves in winter till spring came along. I did not prune at all . Now new growth has started , new branches are growing slowly coming out from the buds working its way up the tree. The very first branch is growing out from the grafted section at the bottom. I think I probably should have pruned off the top 20cm while the tree was still dormant and a bare rod in Winter but I have a lack of knowledge and inexperience . The very first branch growing from the grafted section is about 30cm long with about another 3 branches close in size and length also growing and many buds sprouting up to about 15cm from the top. Can you please help me with some pruning advice ? Cheers Mick.
Remove all the branches below 30 cm, thin the branches, leave 3-4 which you cut to 15-20 cm and you are good to go :D

The tree has 5 new branches about 30 cm long starting from the grafting point at very bottom. 5 new branches 30 cm long to about halfway point from bottom and then lots of buds sprouting to about 20cm from top only about 10 cm long so far , the very top 20cm is still just buds like in video above . ? ALL branches at bottom must be cut off . Is my goal to have a tree vase shaped branching out from about waist height - IS THAT RIGHT ? So sorry to ask again but I am totally grateful, THANK YOU VERY MUCH .....I know I must sound dumb but the only thing I have ever grown before was my hair.
Depending on the shape you want to achieve, the formation of kgb bushes is explained here, if you want an open vase, the method is different. My advice is if that tree is in your garden, leave 4-5 branches above 30 cm and let the tree grow naturally.
@@CherryFarmEurope Hello, thank you for the advice , I cut the tree at about the 80cm high mark 1st year, Now got 7 branches growing they are up to 2 meters long , Its Autumn just about winter. Do I leave it to spring - end of spring or start of spring or summer ? Thank you really appreciate the advice. M

You can expect the first crop in the third year, depending on the assortment, the quantity will vary, but in the fifth year you can expect full potential.
@@CherryFarmEurope Here in Italy we mainly use G5 -G6 for high density orchards or Colt and MaxMa for medium density orchard. We tend to trellis them with spallier to avoid spring frost, but I think KGB is a great solution if you aim for a pedestrian orchard. Cool channel, great job!
@@budan87 Here in Serbia we like to use more G6 , but for KGB i suggest more vigorous rootstocks colt,prunus avium-mahaleb. The weather in my region is great, spring frosts are rare (I am near the Danube river), so your Italian varieties like Early Star have performed well.

If you shorten them, you will get a bigger distance between the buds and therefore a better quality of fruits, it is not a mistake if you do not shorten them, only the distance will be smaller and you will have much more poor quality fruits.

I have early lory, burlat, early star, carmen, sunburst, germerdorf, hedelfinger. All on very vigorous rootstocks like mahaleb and prunus avium.

Full size, yes if you prune the tree regularly.
YES in fact standard rootstock is hardier in most cases. Check out a book called "grow a little fruit tree" its exceptional, just like this wonderful video

How many kilos per tree do you usually collect ? And what irrigation system do you use? I haven't see any tube for drip irrigation.
Depends on variety and year ,from 5-20kg. No irrigation sistem.

I just bought a cherry tree that has already been topped and branched out at shoulder height. It looks to be about 2-3 years old. Can I still prune it to a lower height or will that kill the tree? It’s grafted on semi dwarf rootstock. Thanks!
If you have buds on lower part you can.
Do you mulch, compost or fertilize around the young trees?
Of course, we use artificial fertilizer every year and manure every third year.

I ordered some sour cherry trees this year that are taller than this, I couldn't find any younger ones. Pruning them is not so intuitive. Can you do a video on how to prune a cherry tree that is a few years old, to obtain a better shape. Also, will heading out the center force lower buds, so that I can lower the height of the tree overall?

Which rootstock did you prefer for this orchard?
In this orchard where there is no irrigation, maheleb is the best choice. But if you have conditions for irrigation good choice is gisela 5-6.

Hello.I also try to form this system, but it doesn't work very well...The 3rd year of the garden...in the 1st year, I cut off 60 cm, and in the summer I shortened the shoots by 20 cm..but apparently the variety is not the same...shoots grow horizontally, you have to tie them up...Rootstock VSL-2, Crimean selection, maybe slightly tall

Добрый день! Классное видео! Я всё делаю также, но что-то получается не так. После того как я сформировал 16 лидеров, продолжаю их обрезать и вести из них ещё по 2 лидера. На следующий год чисто теоритически 16 лидеров должны обрасти плодовыми почками, но этого не происходит массово, только в не большом количестве. Те лидеры, которые я выпускал из 16 укорачиваю, оставляю 16 и 16 удаляю. Дереву получается пять лет. Пришла весна и на 16 лидерах, на которых имеются плодовые образования, после цветения , вместо плодов начинают расти боковые ветви до самого верха всех лидеров. У меня вопрос: может не все сорта черешен можно растить по системе KGB? Почему в моём случае растут боковые ветви? Может мне перейти на испанский куст? Причём я пробывал несколько сортов, но урожая так получить и не могу.
Я не знаю, какой у вас сорт, но не все вишни могут преуспеть в этом способе, некоторые, такие как Cordia ferrovia regina, не подходят для этой системы, вы должны выбрать сорт, который дает в основном майские букеты. Обязательно попробуйте покататься на испанском кусте.

Take it easy, first recognize what the fruit species are, not every tree is pruned the same.

What is KGB system?
The Kym Green Bush (KGB) is a free-standing tree that consists of multiple temporary vertical fruiting units to moderate tree vigor, enabling the system to be grown with full-size or semi-dwarfing rootstocks. The vertical fruiting units are renewed regularly to keep spurs young and productive.

You can if you need more leaders or some leader is to dominant.
