      He's getting there but I was a bit nervous about the welding being done below the water line. I'm glad he got a pro in . The number of times I have heard " I can weld" and the results are usually ...entertaining.

    Two tips - run a nut up onto the thread before cutting to length, helps reform the starter thread after you have ground off the sharp edges. Also suggest you consider nyloc nuts with washers. Great restore, inspiring.

    Greetings from Denmark, i see how huge work you do here, and as see you do it first time. Most people who have or had steel boats say that better keep way from old steel boats, you never get your money back, and even the time you spent to repair it. How many tools and experience, and patience it need is just difficult to understand. If it is not about the money, then keep going and don't stop in half way! When it seems that there is no end in this process very closely you see that there is the light in the end of tunnel.

      But what happens when he out on the water and something goes wrong?
      He has no manuals, no log.
      How well will he wire the boat? So many questions.

    • @masdbo
      @masdbo 3 роки тому

      When a man rebuild’s a boat like that there is nothing he can’t fix when something goes wrong. Manuals are helpful but when you know every square inch, no need. Labeling all wiring is a very good idea.

  • @assassinlexx1993
    @assassinlexx1993 3 роки тому

    If you read this. Find manuals for the engine. Start a log very important.
    Buy a can of anti-seize for all bolts and nuts. It is no fun trying to undo a nut that is rusted in place.
    Good luck with your project.

    What you need to do with the bare wood is to coat all edges. and drill hole with Epoxy Resin to seal them against any Water spills and damaging all your wood panels. this way the panels will last a lot longer and seal them

    Thats a very good angle grinder, those blue Bosches last forever. A couple of tips: speed up the countersink bit, it turns to slowly, the result will be better. The engine sounds very good and healthy but you have to replace the water impeller as its probably destroyed by running it dry. And last but not least: 6 weeks from now in the water will be a challenge. Keep up the good work young man.

    Thanks for all that work so well done, friend, but there one thing that haunts my head, because you don't give all those ballast particles a layer of epoxy resin on top, I'll tell you about it because on a boat that works, it broke A sea intake and the whole machine was flooded, they did not give the pumps to bail, nobody was attentive and everything to starboard was scorched and the whole counterweight was loose and it came out of its compartments
    and accelerated the disaster. A hug and continue like this. Thank you for your work friend.

    Just to let you know, if you use the counter sink first, then drill the hole, your counter sink will be nice and round. If you drill the hole first and then counter sink, you will have a choppy looking counter sunk hole. Not that is matters underneath flooring. So carry on. Looking good.

  • @dryver110
    @dryver110 3 роки тому +1

    Hey...great job you're doing!! Please don't run the diesel for even a moment without a cooling water feed, The motor is equipped with a raw water pump which has a rubber impeller mounted in a brass housing. Even a few seconds running dry will cook the impeller...which you should change anyway, but running it dry may almost certainly cause damage to the pump housing. So a simple impeller change of $25 or so becomes an entire pump replacement of considerably more cost.

I found a six year old Mars bar in my golf bag and yes I did eat it. If you use some HSS highspeed drill bits wich are intended for wood AND steel you will save som time drilling.You could also use stainless steel screws and nyloc locking nuts.Again you'll save time!! Its good that you decided using a professional welder for the hull.No use sinking after you have put so much work into it!!

    Congratulations. Nice project, I would like to do such a renovation myself. A few minor comments if I can. You don't need to change drills. Buy a titanium drill bit for the future. You can drill in wood with a metal drill :) It is good to use rubber or silkaflex under the wood. It will catch the slats under the floor and won't vibrate, same with the floor. It is better to weld the sheathing with the mig-mag technique, you will avoid leaks, the welding is continuous, not like an electrode. It is advisable to check the tightness before painting, e.g. with penetrant. Such a special fluid. It's your safety or the swimmers.

    The engine looks like a Perkins 4-236. If so, a great engine. Perkins are good but this engine is probably the best that they ever made. I put tens of thousands of hours on mine. Never a significant problem. Just keep it clean and service the wearable parts. Really enjoying the videos. Thanks. Is this a Perkins 4- 236?
