UPDATE March 31: Exway are making bigger pulleys for improved torque with Cloudwheels! The pulleys in this video are 34T. The new ones will be 44T. You can choose which size to use with your big wheels (smaller for more range, bigger for more torque). __________ If you don't have time to watch me flip-flop on how I feel about these wheels for 20 minutes, you can skip to [15:29] for my summary. Hope you're all well and helping to flatten that curve!
Hey Daniel, long time subscriber also living in Shanghai, where do you usually skate around? And would you recommend the backfire mini for Shanghai streets?
Subliminal message at 9:33, "Wash your hands". Haha nice. And great video! I really want a flex with cloud wheels. Are the newer pullies with more teath for more torque out? And where can i find them for sale??
Was thinking of this set up also! Now that iWonder have announced 105mm I think this would be my ideal set up. Stay safe mate. Thanks for the content 🙃
I just purchased Exway flex with your discount code. +105mm cloud wheels. Wish me luck. I hope I didn't make mistake choosing Flex over Zealot or Verreal RS.
Hi Daniel I really love the vibe of your videos, the color grading you use couldn’t be more on point, I’m impress you are getting it from an Osmo Action. Just a super quick question (yes/no works), may I use these wheels with a Flex -Hub?. Btw I used your code to preorder my new Flex, really appreciated about that. All the Best
Hey Daniel, did you have to remove the grip tape to install the shred lights on the Flex? I noticed that the grip tape is covering the bolts, which is why I asked. Thanks!
Perhaps, to compensate for the lack of braking/acceleration you could switch to bigger wheel pulleys (if they even fit)? It would then definitively eat up a lot more of range, but it would have the same performance. Those ABEC core pulleys should be easily findable, so switching to a bigger one shouldn't be that hard to find. Then you might also need to change the belt. But overall, nice content!
I've done this for a boosted board with 3d printable pulleys, if i can get my hands on a set of exway pulleys i can probably model a set up for that. It definitely helps with the torque, but you do need larger belts and a bit of extra work on fitment.
I preordered the flex a couple weeks ago and seriously can’t wait until it’s released! I live on a fairly large campus which thankfully has (mostly) paved streets and sidewalks, however due to the virus I’m stuck at home in an urban city with fairly large cracks and not so smooth roads - What wheels would you guys recommend I get? Should I stay stock? Cloud wheels? I’ve used my Regular longboard with Kegels quite a bit and haven’t had toooo many issues (though the comfort isn’t 100%)
In your case I would stay stock first and see how that goes. If you can use Kegels on your longboard then you can use the stock 85mm wheels on the Flex.
I missed this originally. What is your opinion on how those cloudwheels handle wet conditions like if you hit a wet area on concrete or asphalt, especially in a somewhat sharp turn?
Daniel I finally ordered my first electric skateboard and it is exway flex. Will u test flex with the new 105 mm cloudwheel mb this will be the best solution.
Yeah, I think Daniel makes the best tech product reviews I've ever seen but don't understand why he hasn't done a review of the Exway Flex with the 105mm Cloudwheels!
17:50 those people are at the longest traffic light ever. I'm about to put 120mm cloud wheels in my wowgo 3x. So this video is very relevant to me, almost spookily so. Classic DKWAN
Hi Great Video....Just have a few questions What video equipment do you use? Your camera never goes out of focus I'm a complete beginner to the eskateboarding and escooter world thus have a very basic question....I bought the Exway X1 Pro and some shred lights. Tried to install the lights but it seems I will need to take off the grip tape in order to screw on the lights....is that the only way? I ideally don't want to risk spoiling the grip tape
Hassan Naqvi the grip tape on the Exway boards can be pulled up and placed back down. The cushion grip tape is very think. Just peel it up and when you are done smack it back down. It will stick. Just pull it up enough to reach the bolts.
I list my video equipment in the description. For this one it was really simple, just DJI Osmo Action and a mic. As for that foam grip tape, just use a hair dryer to loosen the glue (may take a couple minutes or more) and lift the grip tape slowly. Try not to stretch it. Use a blade to cut the glue if it's not moving. It's a very slow process if you want to avoid deforming the grip tape. To put the light mounts on top, poke holes in the grip tape so that the screws can go through.
Why don't you mount the back lights like the fronts? I got lights on my boosted mini underneath the deck... they tuck in very well... I just feel like them mounted on top is like a unnecessary obstacle that's totally avoidable. It doesn't bother you with them mounted on top?
Do cloud wheels also work on an x1 pro? And if so, do you have an affiliate link to purchase them thru u? (Edit: I see the affiliate link in videos description. Do you have a video with them on a x1 pro riot? Clearance issues?
I’ve never tried Cloudwheels on the X1 Pro because I’m pretty sure they’ll get wheel bite. 96mm on the X1 already bites if you make a sharp turn so pretty sure 120mm isn’t feasible unless you just ride straight.
In 4:41 you say that you had to remove the belt covers. I'm thinking about buying the cloud wheels for the WowGo 3X. The discovery version of the wheels fits perfectly to the 3X's pulleys, but I'm worried that riding without belt covers can be somewhat dangerous because of possibility of some little stones or so could get under the belt. What's your take on that? Would you ever consider it a problem?
Been watching your videos for quite some time now and enjoying every bits of info about the exway. I have a question tho. Is the Exway X1 Pro Riot be compatible with that wheels? Or will it get any wheel bites? Already a subscriber btw.
I preorder the Flex and after watching this video, I'm interested in buying the cloud wheels, what else do I need to install these wheels? Never owned an electric skate board so please give detailed response. Thanks in advance.
Ikram Syed you need to order additional pulleys. First you need to make sure you want to put these on your board. You may want another wheel type. Ride the board stock see what you like or dislike. Then decide what you want to change and upgrade.
On Exway's site, get the Riot Wheel Pulley from the Accessories section. You need the "star hole pulley" for the Flex Riot. Those pulleys also fit many other wheels.
Can you also make a video to test the cloud wheels over little puddles since some of my friends told me that the cloud wheels may be more unstable than the original wheels on wet road. Thank you!
Nice idea on washers 👌 I am also using bigger washers between the pulley bearing and wheel bearing (inner side) to avoid contact between bearings and helps to less resistance 👍
Daniel Kwan yap love to dismantle my boards and looking to ease solutions to minor issues. Making also vids of our rides you can check my YT channel 👇 ua-cam.com/channels/hsz95CxGAVpdbc_A6NSZ8A.html BTW great reviews and love to watch them👍
Hey @Daniel Kwan, I was set @ X1 Riot but since I saw your review on the Flex I'm torn between the 2 models. Especially the price point difference is only $100. Please help me decide which will be a better investment for me. This will be my 1st eskate and planning for leisure/city cruisin. I'm 5'6 and 185 lbs. Thank you so much. - Ray
I also ordered the X1 Pro Riot but then found out about the Flex and cancelled my order to order the Flex instead! Haven’t gotten it in yet but I’d also go for the Flex for the comfiness of the flex board and the extra range!
Will the hub be a lot slower compared with the new pulleys they are offering in the future? But, it would end up having lower range correct? I got the hub because it was quieter and on par comparison with the riot for performance. Did I make the wrong choice?
So how do you compare the ride feel to the ownboard Bamboo GT? Would you prefer to have the double kingpins with these bigger wheels, or the Trist? Between the Flex and Bamboo gt, which has better acceleration and braking?
I prefer these Cloudwheels on the Ownboard BGT more than the Exway. I would not prefer double kingpin with these bigger wheels; in fact I don't think big wheels on double kingpin is a good idea even though it's popular. With Cloudwheels the Ownboard has better acceleration. Brakes I'm not sure - similar I guess.
Thanks for the info Daniel. Sounds like the Flex "can" run these big wheels, but if that's your intention for buying the board you'd be better off getting a board designed to run them instead - aka the flex is better with smaller wheels. Thanks for making these videos. It's always a joy to see you have a new one posted. Also your editing skills continue to impress - love what you're doing :)
Hey man you have video on the X1 pro with backfire wheels, they seem to fit but u'll get wheelbite as u mentioned. Would it be possible to put those backfire wheels on the flex hub motors?
I have the same predicament with the ruff stuff wheels; great for riding over poorly paved ground but when it comes to full-on carving action, it is reduced due to elevated deck! Hence why I haven't purchased UK 'Foamies' equivalent..yet. Anyways, I've heard cloud wheels get better with age/use (soften up), so your next ride might feel even better! As always, great video Mr Kwan.
ok thank you very much i have just seen the wowgo 3 x longboard from the data similar to the xway pro riot. The price is also quite similar. You have already tested both what would you miss more wowgo 3x or xwax pro (riot).
so i i ordered an exway board and i live in the united states, would my order still be processed and i would recieve the board? or are things on hold for the foreseeable future? i need an esk8 in my life i would love to kno if i ordered would i have a esk8 shipped on its way to me, or has the covid 19 crisis shut down exway?? thanks for the information, keep it up with the awesome videos with well presented informative material... its hard to do that without sounding boring, u got it down pat! -p3t3r p.s. basically im just asking if i bought a board online today, would it be shipped out or are things shut down where exway headquarters is? or maybe its fully automated i have no idea so i wanted to ask you because you seem very well versed in all things exway! thanks again and god bless, hope you and those close to you are safe and healthy in these times of uncertainty! -p3t3r
Hi Daniel I have questions when u install the shred light in the back did you use longer screw to install on the top. When I try to install my shred light doesn’t reach to tighten the screw
hi buddy i was wondering i got the exway flex riot i dont like the small wheels.on my evolve gtr i have the cloud wheels 120s if i try the clouds on my flex would the pulleys 32t fit on my flex or do i have to order from exway?thank you.
Great videos! Been watching everything you have put up as I’m researching which board to buy. Exway is selling 120mm and 105mm Cloudwheel kits. Which one would you suggest for city streets?
@@DanielKwan Thanks for your videos! Very helpful! I just bought a Exway Flex Riot after I watched your reviews. Now I want to get 105D version of cloud wheels. Some review says you need to adjust the tension of the belt to install 105D cloud wheel if I choose 36T? Any experience on that? Thanks!
How to restore factory settings exway flex. After I upgraded the skateboarding system. FOC controller electric skateboard, the rear wheel will make the sound of boiling water. is this normal? How to solve it? There was no such sound before upgrading the system. Want to restore factory settings. My board is EXWAY FLEX
Hi Daniel, I like this video! look forward to watching the next video you were talking about. uh, for the range, is it 20kms or 20 miles? it is said to be 20 miles on the official website.
Hey there Daniel, first off, great videos! You've definitely improved my knowledge of ESK8 boards! I had a question for you or your viewers... I have the Exway Flex and I watched this video awhile back and saw that you mentioned using the "Ride" app with the Exway board. I have not been able to connect the Ride app as it seems to only connect to my Boosted board. Did you do something special to get the Exway to connect to the ride app?
What brand are the cloud wheels? On amazon there is iwonder, motion, slick revolution, and a few others. I have a evolve carbon GTR 32T street set up and I was wondering if the cloud wheels will slap right on regardless of brand or would I have to change my pulley and use different belt covers. Any help would be appreciated thanks everyone
Awesome videos DK. What's the biggest wheels the Exway flex could take? The paths / roads around here (UK) suck. If the Exway flex is as good as you claim I might bite the bullet. Just thinking AT wheels might help me. Thanks in advance.
Hey Daniel, I got the X1 Riot + Cloudwheels and when I try to install the wheels, they don't go into the pulley fully so it left fewer space for me to screw back in the cap screw (I can only get half in, even without the tiny space ring) I tried hammering the wheel into the pulley more but it really doesn't work....have you come across that problem and how would you suggest to fix it? (or half the cap screw in is enough already?) Much appreciate you help! Best, Casper
Good video. I can not believe you rolled the board down the stairs like that 😂 ▶️ was thinking about getting 97mm wheels ▶️ good to see that new Merch ▶️shred lights looking good.
@@DanielKwan if i could get a CAD model of the stock pulleys, i could probably make some new larger ones? Alternatively, do you know the belt pitch and tooth count on the wheel pulleys? I'd love to get a set done for you to test on haha.
I can't decide between the Ownboard W2 or the Flex :/ I wish the Flex held up to their claimed 20 mile range. Funny how the Ownboard claims around 15 or so but people are going way past that. Are the components used in the flex much higher quality? It certainly looks better than the W2 but it's such a damn hard decision.
Always fun to watch passive cultural differences between countries. Things that go on behind the recording. I notice folks in China have no issue actively stopping and staring at what you're doing. Heck, even taking pictures of you when you were still and talking. Not something we'd see that often in the US. If so, the first thought would be the person might be a bit off. Thanks for the outline of your experience.
I don't know if this is possible but if you could change the size of the pulleys so the gear ratio keeps the same with the bigger wheels; the acceleration, brakes, top speed... would be the same that whith the smaller wheels, so the board should feel exactly the same as it was designed.
The 44T pulley kit (select Exway in drop down): www.icloudwheel.com/collections/cloudwheels/products/wheel-pulley-kits-for-cloudwheel-discovery-version
Now exway released their own cloudwheels, is the wheel option for the bigger sizes already available in the app too or do you know when they will add it? I don’t see it in the app but it could be because I don’t have a board connected yet, waiting for shipping. Also considering getting the Exway 120mm cloud wheels hence my question.
exway messaged me a few weeks ago and they are still implementing the wheel options for cloud wheels. i did so much research last night and this morning and purchased the 105mm. their new core version is definitely improved. there is a stress test done to their new version and im happy about that
Really nice informative video, thank you so much! May i know what camera did you used to shoot your rides on the street? 360 cam or action camera (gopro)? Stay safe
I just got the xpro1 but at high speeds gets a little unstable and wobbly. Is there a way to make it a bit more stiffer at high speeds? I tried tightening down the bolts on the trucks but didn’t make a difference.
THank you for this video. Your reviews have been extremely informative and insightful. I ordered a new Flex Riot, Cloudwheel combo, spare accessory kit (and bash guards and washers) because of your reviews!
The included pulleys are compatible with Exway's wheels only. Exway sells 10-hole pulleys that are compatible with Orangatang Kegels and Caguamas, and star-hole pulleys that are compatible with a bunch of generic wheels and (in theory) Abec11/Evolve wheels.
According to Exway you should be able to if you get their "star-hole" pulleys. You'll be able to choose 34T or 44T so you can prioritize range or torque.
i bought the exway x1pro in oct, i then bought the riot pack just before the san fran store went out of business. i recently switched over to the riot pack, when i tried to upgrade the firmware it fried my remote and the board itself makes a spinning rubbing noise inside where the on/off button. Now nothing works WTF ? any ideas why this happened...no way to contact exway it seems. thx

I didn’t but I have a preproduction board so my screws might be longer.
hi buddy i was wondering i got the exway flex riot i dont like the small wheels.on my evolve gtr i have the cloud wheels 120s if i try the clouds on my flex would the pulleys 32t fit on my flex or do i have to order from exway?thank you.
great review but I am curious if I am able to put the evolve all turain wheels on the exway flex
Great videos! Been watching everything you have put up as I’m researching which board to buy.
Exway is selling 120mm and 105mm Cloudwheel kits. Which one would you suggest for city streets?
105
@@DanielKwan Thanks for your videos! Very helpful! I just bought a Exway Flex Riot after I watched your reviews. Now I want to get 105D version of cloud wheels. Some review says you need to adjust the tension of the belt to install 105D cloud wheel if I choose 36T? Any experience on that? Thanks!
What do you do with all the boards you don’t ride
Give or sell to others in Shanghai.
Can we get a quick video or something about cloud wheels with X1 pro riot. I just got my cloud wheels and they don’t fit my X1 pro riot
If you ride like a beginner you might get 20 miles. See my other Exway Flex video for how Exway calculated 20 miles.
@@DanielKwan Just watched it and pre-ordered a flex riot, haha
The mad 105s seem very promising but im hoping they go up to 120mm.
I highly recommend everybody getting those cloud wheels
Kyle Harvey I’m pretty sure I’m just a little too fat for cloud wheels. I need all the torque I can get 😂
Kyle Harvey they are not for everybody.
Kyle Harvey why so?
Is it possible to change the gear ratio so it works better with the bigger wheels
How did you get the shred lights on? Did you lift the grip tape then make holes for the screws?
I recently changed my boosted V2 into 120D. Breaking is scary slow now! Do u know if Cloud wheel offer bigger pulley to help with that?
Awesome videos DK. What's the biggest wheels the Exway flex could take? The paths / roads around here (UK) suck. If the Exway flex is as good as you claim I might bite the bullet. Just thinking AT wheels might help me. Thanks in advance.
The biggest I’ve tried is these 120mm Cloudwheels.
Hey Daniel,
I got the X1 Riot + Cloudwheels and when I try to install the wheels, they don't go into the pulley fully so it left fewer space for me to screw back in the cap screw (I can only get half in, even without the tiny space ring) I tried hammering the wheel into the pulley more but it really doesn't work....have you come across that problem and how would you suggest to fix it? (or half the cap screw in is enough already?)
Much appreciate you help!
Best,
Casper
Good video. I can not believe you rolled the board down the stairs like that 😂
▶️ was thinking about getting 97mm wheels
▶️ good to see that new Merch
▶️shred lights looking good.
It was just a few steps. What was I gonna do, bend down to pick it up? 😆
Daniel Kwan 😂😂🤙no that would be “disgusting”
Whats the highest speed you got with the cloud wheels and how'd it feel?
@@DanielKwan THATS DISGUSTIIING :D
We need Daniel to make a review video of the Exway Flex with 105mm Cloudwheels!
What kind of electric skateboard u recommend that has a mix of flexy & a stiff board
Are you finding yourself using the flex over the x1 riot? Do you recommend the flex over the x1 riot especially with pricing being so close now?
Brallan Saucedo I think he said the Flex is his favorite board. The flex seems more versatile.
I would generally suggest Flex over X1 Pro. X1 Pro is more of a niche board.
Different pulley size to bring back the torque and bring down the top speed. Seems like a great upgrade to me.
Yup
@@DanielKwan if i could get a CAD model of the stock pulleys, i could probably make some new larger ones? Alternatively, do you know the belt pitch and tooth count on the wheel pulleys? I'd love to get a set done for you to test on haha.
question. shred lights website said it currently doesnt have mounts for the read truck. how were you able to install them for the flex?
Mounted on top with the angled mounts
I can't decide between the Ownboard W2 or the Flex :/ I wish the Flex held up to their claimed 20 mile range. Funny how the Ownboard claims around 15 or so but people are going way past that. Are the components used in the flex much higher quality? It certainly looks better than the W2 but it's such a damn hard decision.
was it difficult to put the wheels on? could u put up a video of how u put it on? AWESOME videos as always
It's easy. You'd be able to figure it out. Or watch that part of this video in slow motion.
They just told me they will come out with bigger pulleys.
Also considering getting the Exway 120mm cloud wheels hence my question.
exway messaged me a few weeks ago and they are still implementing the wheel options for cloud wheels. i did so much research last night and this morning and purchased the 105mm. their new core version is definitely improved. there is a stress test done to their new version and im happy about that
Is this the best option if you just want a smooth ride?
Really nice informative video, thank you so much! May i know what camera did you used to shoot your rides on the street? 360 cam or action camera (gopro)? Stay safe
Are there any belt drive guard/cover for the riot's setup?
It looks pretty badass with the wheels and lights
Can you mount the tail lights under the board?
I just got the xpro1 but at high speeds gets a little unstable and wobbly. Is there a way to make it a bit more stiffer at high speeds? I tried tightening down the bolts on the trucks but didn’t make a difference.
What’s your weight and longboarding experience?
Please tell me how you keep your glasses free from fog, I need this nowadays lol
Heat them up. Cold glass fogs easily.
Antifog but there's many kinds.
Do you think I should get some cloud wheels for in NYC? Will it make the wheels feel more stable? With uneven concrete?
Wait but your girl though why would you be interested in this?
How did you put the mounts on the rear side?
THank you for this video. Your reviews have been extremely informative and insightful. I ordered a new Flex Riot, Cloudwheel combo, spare accessory kit (and bash guards and washers) because of your reviews!
@Rect Gamer shopping is taking forever 😢 but I hear its the same for almost all other manufacturers
Quick question: buy Cloud Wheels 105 or 120?
105
Nice music, nice review, how are the wheels after breaking in
Will these Cloudwheels work for Exway x1 Pro as well? :)
Thanks for great videos on the Exway, I really appreciate it!
That’s what I want to know as well! Hopefully get an answer soon 😁. (Thanks dan!)
There is wheel bite
what wheels do you think will be better for this board?
Depends what you want to do
What wheels are compatible with exway flex (riot)? I just preordered mine
Anthony Siu basically all of them. They have pulleys you can purchase that work with all types of wheels
Daniel Kwan thank you for the info!! Have you tried other wheels on it besides these cloud wheels great video btw
why didn't you have the board set to 120mm?
what board lights are those and where did you get them?
Hey Daniel... Can I use Abec11 107mm wheels on the Flex? If yes what would be the difference in riding?
According to Exway you should be able to if you get their "star-hole" pulleys. You'll be able to choose 34T or 44T so you can prioritize range or torque.
Does anyone know what tool he used to remove the belt covers?
Welcome back Daniel good to see you healthy and safe😎🤙👌👍👍☝️👈💥
What do you think about the incoming Backfire belt driven board?
I'm guessing its main selling point over the Flex would be its range (311Wh vs 260Wh).
i bought the exway x1pro in oct, i then bought the riot pack just before the san fran store went out of business. i recently switched over to the riot pack, when i tried to upgrade the firmware it fried my remote and the board itself makes a spinning rubbing noise inside where the on/off button. Now nothing works WTF ? any ideas why this happened...no way to contact exway it seems. thx
No idea. Email exway: service@exwayboard.com
