The devs made a 10 year old mistake. In big games always include fast travel, if your game is fun enough players won't use the fast travel system but atleast it's there if you need it. The addition of micro transactions to make it easier to fast travel shows their true intent of not including fast travel.

They literally added the infinite ferry stone as part of a later update because even the most die hard fans hated it.
Technically it’s only able to create a fast travel location. Not allow you to fast travel. And you can still warp to towns with the ferry stones earned in game. Kinda scummy but not insane

Mid game youll have enough portcrystals to play w. Unless you just like farming certain areas theres no reason to return to many. The places you do need to visit a lot usually have permanent portcrystals but a few dont so put them down there. However you still have an extra to carry w you. Place it down at a quest givers location if they arent near a PC already. After you get what they need or finish their task just fast travel back to them. When the quest is completed pick up the PC and take it w you. Rinse and repeat. 👍👍

Guys, you can buy multiples with stuff you get from killing dragons, and just one as an MTX. The game has very limited fast travel options regardless of the MTX store.
They are finite and more useful to use with escort missions. Once you get to the point where you dread running through the same exact area, fighting the same exact enemies for the 50th time burn out starts setting in. A buddy of mine used all his Feerystones and had to take the elf chick in the Arbor to the dwarf in Battahl. She gave him one so he only had to go from Vern to Battahl but needless to say he hated it. He stopped playing for a day and came back later to do it. Not fun.😂
It’s not really a normal method of fast travel. It’s not like you click anywhere on a destination on the map and immediately go there. It does take a little bit of explanation.
This game is meant to make monsters a more terrifying feature since the traveling is even limited within normal means. It makes the game much more immersive rather than just teleporting on the map for free and skipping the world-building.
