I bought this when it was first released and I don’t think I’ve encountered anyone calling this background swirling “white noise” because that’s about cancelling other sounds. But maybe there’s a back story I don’t know. I always knew it was a synthesizer but always thought of it as mimicking a swirling storm …
Dude, this song here with headphones on hits different. Especially turned up all the way🤘❤️i kind of wish the ending goes on forever. I picture my coffin being carried out the church with this playing
That white noise is coming from a brand new Moog synthesizer. George bought the first one in England and it was used for this first time on this album. The opening to Here Comes the Sun uses it.
Just for the historical record, Abbey Road was named after the studio where the album, and nearly all of the Beatles' recordings were made. The studio was actually named EMI Studios but was called Abbey Road because it was on Abbey Road. That's Abbey Road the Beatles are walking across. Because the album was so popular, they renamed the studio Abbey Road Studios.
I absolutely love that ending. It's a brilliant ending to a brilliant song. It's like they have a chance to be in this trance-like dream as they repeat those chords over and over, with everybody doing more and more fills and going nuts, and then it's like there's this rising wind that takes forever to arrive, but it's relentless and then it's like it's combined with an insect storm, and like sand blowing through the desert, it nearly obscures the music and becomes the main focus and it's just so cool. It's so atmospheric and it's so cinematic. And then as the wind storm reaches the crescendo, the listener is nearly hypnotized by now, and it abruptly cuts off and leaves you hanging. It's such a mind-fuck and it's wonderful ear candy.
This is the fourth time he's been guessing whether it's John or Paul on vocals, always going for Paul, when it was John every single time🤣 A new strategy may be considered for future Beatles reactions👍 *John also did the guitar solo on this one
It always blows my mind when one of these reactors can't tell the difference between John and Paul even after they've heard them both sing a few times. To me, they're so easily distinguished from each other.
"Heavy" -do you know what that means in this context? I can't believe it's already out of fashion. It means "deep", as in a "deep" person-someone who rocks your world etc...
@@baronroaster404 A definition that would both precede and outlast this particular era 60's early 70's). As I recall it was used as a catchall type word. Could be deep, but also hip, cool righteous.

Nope, that's really the end. Then you flip over the album and get the opening line of Here Comes the Sun, which is a stark contrast. Listening to the digital copy, with no album flip, the transition comes instantly and it feels really weird and cool. The two songs couldn't be more different.
This album and Dark Side are the two greatest masterpieces ever put on vinyl, imo. She Came In Through The Bathroom Window is another banger on this album and your boy, Joe Cocker, does an incredible cover of it also!! Since it's kind of a short song.....maybe do a twofor??? Epic!
I love that you give us a few minutes of research. Makes you stand out for me! (Not to diminish your thoughts and insights, which are great to hear too)
they say the same thing over and over but every verse says something different. That's the beauty of this song. After playing word games in I am the walrus he decided to do the exact opposite here. True art.
On this song Heavy = Phat. Also this song is Lennon ALL the way, he's talking about his obsession w Yoko. Nice to see your reactions. White Noise abrupt ending blew everyone's mind upon first hearing in 1969.
John Lennon wrote it, sings and plays lead guitar on this track. Heavy indeed. There's actually more to this song. Lennon told the engineer to just randomly cut it. That's why it ends suddenly.
the abrupt ending doesn't go into the next song after. that's how the first side of the record ends. that's John finding new ways to mess with you (the listener)
Lennon sang the lead vocals and used a Moog Synthesiser/white noise generator to create what I always thought was a like a jet plane taking off, and have always loved that and the way it ends abruptly. John said the song was about his deep love and reliance on Yoko, who was so heavy in the sense she gave him such a strong support when he was going through scary shit..
The tape ran out. But Lennon had the engineer stop it abruptly. It's just a coincidence that the last song on the other side of the album runs out and stop abruptly too.
Led Zeppelin were already formed and playing Dazed and Confused and Communication Breakdown live to the public BEFORE this or Helter Skelter were recorded. Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones played on Becks Bolero TWO AND A HALF YEARS before.
They were using a Moog synthesizer to make the ‘white noise’ cacophony you’re hearing. John is singing about Yoko, his new wife. The organ was played by the amazing Billy Preston, some call the 5th Beatle!
I don't know if it's coincidental but this song has elements that remind me of what Miles Davis was doing at around the same time with Fusion Jazz, as in Bitches' Brew. And while not having what sounds like a funk bass line, it also has a funk-like feel to it. But in keeping with its name, it's certainly heavy, about as heavy as rock sounds got at the time. Gotta wonder how much Pink Floyd was influenced by it as they were already doing heavier tracks like Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun and Careful With That Axe, Eugene, but I can see how albums like Dark Side and The Wall might have been influenced by it, even Meddle.
I think Wes Montgomery inspired the guitar work on this; and he was inspired by the Beatles to do an album of covers. Yep, EVERY genre in western music can be found in their canon, and Eastern classical as well.
Early 60s 2 min. songs were written to be on AM radio, late 60s FM radio would play longer songs. Cheech and Chong did a comedy album Big Bambu that had a skit about FM DJs.
I loved this and your reaction! When will you get around to John Lennons ...Mind Games (official video)??? Come on! Hurry up lol I can't wait any longer lol💕✌️
Paul on bass, John on lead vocal. I'm not certain, but thinking it's a Lennon-McCartney song, with heavy (no pun intended) influence from John. No one in the band was better at communicating gut-wrenching emotional pain than John.
Heavy=intellectually, spiritually, creatively deep
Yeah - we used to say: "Man - that's HEAVY!!!"
The brilliance of the white noise is not to be underestimated.
I bought this when it was first released and I don’t think I’ve encountered anyone calling this background swirling “white noise” because that’s about cancelling other sounds. But maybe there’s a back story I don’t know.

Every Beatles song invented a new genre. They were SO far ahead of their time.
Precisely, my good man!
💙Any day is a good day when you hear The Beatles!
Greatest love song ever written. He is MAD about her. The music simulates madness. He is insane for her love.
Heavy means deep … awesome …mind blowing …..

Headphones/earbuds are mandatory.
John sings lead; Paul and George sing on harmonies. Paul is on bass, as usual.
John also plays lead guitar
It ends like that because John made the engineer physically CUT the tape in that spot. That was a synthesizer making that sound.
That white noise is coming from a brand new Moog synthesizer. George bought the first one in England and it was used for this first time on this album. The opening to Here Comes the Sun uses it.
Always innovating, right up to the final recent release, Now And Then.
John wanted the sound of air
Masterwork. Yes, all the instrumentation is excellent. I like Billy Preston playing the organ. His role is small in this song, but he's there.
