Oh Paul has always been able to belt songs out. Check him out singing Little Richard’s “Long Tall Sally” live. There are a number different performances available on UA-cam. He learned to sing like that by watching Richard perform back in their Hamburg days when they hung out together.

The last Beatles song on the album isn't listed here. A 17 second song called Her Majesty, included by accident. It was on the end of the take used. There's a long blank space before it, like a hidden track.
John sang I Want You, not Paul. George wrote and sang Here Comes the Sun and Something. The End included three rotating solos. The chunky guitar solos are John, the other two are Paul and George, but no one is 100% sure which is which. That's Ringo's only recorded drum solo (at least with The Beatles).

Last month Paul did a surprise gig at my city(Brasília) and I was one of the few 300 lucky ones to get a ticket, watched him for 1h40m standing at the front row barrier, less than 2 meters away from him, i could even reach his keyboard if i reach out my arm, i will never forget him singing Golden Slumbers and the last medley right in front of me, never expected for something like this to happen to me, still feels like a dream, one of the best days of my life.

I listened to the 500 Greatest Albums of all Time in chronological order. Getting to Please Please me was like going from black and white to Technicolor. Night and Day difference how rocked changed from that album onward

I'm 73 and you are so right about Abbey Road, it's their best work but I've had friends that would argue that the White Album is their best work.
Im.54 my first beatles album.i fell.in love with was the love songs album. That brown bumpy cover. I was 8 9 years old and had around the house all the zep and Frampton comes alive. But it was rhe beatles that I connected to. Shaped me loving great music...more of a prog head now but beatles are the greatest of all time

I'm 70. The White Album was my favorite until Abbey Road. Lately, I really love Revolver.

Revolver is another contender for me. But I think Abbey Road is the most complete and extraordinary of their albums.
I’m 67. I was 8 when they came here and we saw them for the first time. They were amazing from the start…a mesmerizing talent! You couldn’t take your eyes off them when they were on tv or in a film. And ask any elder Beatles fan….you couldn’t turn off a Beatles song in the middle of it, either. You had to hear it all the way through. How many times did we pull into the driveway in the middle of a Beatles song and sit in the car in the driveway until it was over.? When I got into a friend’s car, they did it, too. When I met my husband, who grew up a thousand miles away from me, he did it, too! So funny. We both agreed, we both did it out of reverence for their immense talent! It would be like turning off the radio in the middle of God speaking to you. Many people think God sent The Beatles to humanity on Earth…or that they must have been God-inspired or something. I’ve heard that type of thing so many times. Or, they are 4 of God’s angels sent here for us! LOL. WHO KNOWS? Maybe they are.

The medley is the most insane piece of music ever created. It should be taught in all public schools. The Beatles need to be its own course in the curriculum, they need to always be remembered, and learned about in school. Spark the creativity of kids at a young age, and it can change their lives

Great reaction! Abbey Road is not just my favorite Beatles album... it's my favorite album period. It's about the only album that I will listen to from beginning to end every time. I think you're right - they knew this was it and they decided to drop something on the world that no one would ever forget. Nothing like going out on top.
@kpmac1 I have NEVER NOT listened to ANY Beatles from beginning to end every time. I ALWAYS listen to all their albums in their entirety and I have been listening to those albums for the last 60 years.
The first time I heard Oh Darling was a jaw-dropper. After the song was finished, I swear I stared into space for about 10minutes, motionless, wondering what the f**k had just happened to me. Golden Slumbers makes me cry every time. This album is pure perfection, and it's not even my favourite Beatles album lol. It just takes you on a journey you never expected, from the sublime to the ridiculous, from absolute eargasms to crying your heart out. Great reaction video! There's not many "reactions" on YT I believe to be genuine, but this definitely is!

One of the best lines in rock music is at the end of the medley: "and the love you take, is equal to the love you make".
For those of us who grew up with this music will totally understand your reaction at the end. They did indeed "take us to a whole different place" not just with this album but again and again through the 60's.
It is a joy that is hard to express to see someone from a new generation approach this music with such generosity of spirit and musical sensibility.

I have always thought and will continue to maintain that ‘The End’ inspired Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. I am convinced of it.

@@IZZY_EDIBLE It’s not opinion - it’s a fact. Abbey Road is a return to production pre White Album. Abbey Road has a completely different tone because they switched to a new console with more tracks. The White Album is known for disconnected tracks with a broad range of styles and less orchestration, Abbey Road is the complete opposite. So, sorry, they are nothing alike and probably - aside from Let it Be - the two most UNALIKE Beatles albums in their catalog. Critical thinking is fun.

Great reaction. FYI: the guitar solo that you hear on the End is actually Paul, George, and John taking turns for 2 bars each. You hear Paul, George, John, then Paul, George, and finishes with John. Re-listen to it again and you notice the personalities of each coming through, as well as the differing guitar tones because each were playing different guitar and likely using different amps. John was definitely using his Epiphone Casino hollow body guitar giving a throaty sound. George was using his Gibson Les Paul that Eric Clapton gave to him as a gift.

@@patticrichton1135 Paul was probably playing his left handed Epiphone Casino. John, Paul, and George all owned their own Casino models. John famously stripped the finish off of his in 1968.
Paul used that same guitar when he played the guitar solo on Taxman. Yes it was a George written song but Paul played the raga style solos on it.

I am a PAUL girl and have been since day one, "first generation fan" (16/17 years old when they came to the States for the first time on Feb. 7th 1964 for the Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9th, 1964. I saw them live in concert in 1964 and 1966 when I was 17 and 19. I just had my 77th birthday March 9th. I am very well versed in Paul, I know he doesn't just play bass. I know an acoustic guitar and a twelve string guitar when I hear it, but I can't differentiate between different BRANDS of guitars when just listening. That was why I asked. LOL! 😊
My big brother bought Abbey Road for me as he left for college in 1969. This has been my favorite Beatles album since I was 11.

What a great & lovely comment! I'm 71 and my love for the Beatles was founded when their "Paperback Writer" single was released in the summer of 1966 and my love was settled for good in the winter of 1967 by "Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever". Then, on my birthday, May 26, 1967, "Sergeant Pepper's" was released..... oh, dear, it was a musical revolution, and almost felt like a religious experience.

I remember listening to them on the radio as a 3 year old - I Wanna Hold Your Hand & She Loves You rocked my preskool world. I even collected Beatles bubblegum cards! Did U?!
My Mom stood in line for hours so I could have the White Album under the Christmas tree in 1968! I remember the bs around John’s “Christ” comments… We were living in Georgia and I remember the papers saying something about God being dead becuz Beatle John made a comment about it. I asked my Mother about it & she reassured me God, the Universe & my Beatles were all OK! 🥰😂

I watched the Let It Be tapes on Disney recently - all 8-10 hours or however long they are!
I felt like I time travelled back to 1969!!!

The Medley is The Killer. It's a shame you missed the tongue-in-cheek "Her Majesty." Not that it's a great track or anything (like 30 seconds long), but is a beautifully humorous little tip o' the cap to the Queen.
Great reaction, man. These dudes were way ahead of their time, yet right on time. There's a song from a guy named John Fogerty (he was the front man for a band called Creedence Clearwater Revival, whom you should DEFINITELY check out if you haven't, the song is from his later solo works) called "I Saw It On TV" that is basically a snapshot of Mr. Fogerty's recollections of his formative days. There's a verse in there where he talks about Kennedy getting assassinated and in the next line he says, "Then four guys from England took us all by the hand/It was time to laugh, time to sing, time to join the band..."
These guys hit at just the right moment in the USA. The country was reeling from JFK's assassination, and a little more than two months later The Beatles played the Ed Sullivan Show (darn near every TV in America on Sunday was tuned to Mr. Sullivan's variety show), and the world was never the same. Talk about hitting it at the perfect moment.
Check out CCR, dude. Their album "Cosmos Factory" is on my "deserted island" list. They were smoking hot for about 5 years before shit hit the fan for them. Countless hits ("Proud Mary," "Born on the Bayou," "Fortunate Son," among them, along with an awesome cover of "Heard it Through the Grapevine"). Fogerty lost the rights to his songs, couldn't perform them live, and didn't release much of anything new until 1985's "Centerfield." Fogerty is an American legend, IMO, many will agree, others will disagree. But you should def check them out.

I love that Maxwell’s Silver Hammer does sound like another when I’m 64. But it’s about a serial killer. The irony is obvious but to me it’s delicious irony. I completely love this song.

This is another example that made the Beatles' great, and in this case, PAUL great...that he could come up with a happy sounding song about a serial killer, it totally is, and you said, "DELICIOUS IRONY"

These guys are the gold standard for rock artistry. Their American appearance on Ed Sullivan in 1964 ignited an atomic bomb in music and fashion, and changed the entire direction of the culture. Through it all they led with inventiveness, artistry, and originality. They spawned most of the major musical genres of the age and inspired some of the greatest legends in music: Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Lynyrd Skynrd, just to name a few…They are the GOAT.
Love Abby Road! Yellow Submarine, Octopus's Garden, All Together Now and Good Night (John wrote for Ringo on the White Album) are Children songs. Ringo was on holiday once and a small octopus wrapped itself around someone in his party. their guide told them some facts about these creatures, like they love shiny objects and they take them to their enclosures ( like decorating their habitat). like your comments and more Beatles.
"Something" not only the Beatles greatest love song but I think might be their greatest recording! Everything comes together PERFECTLY on that track and what makes it even more remarkable is that its NOT a Lennon/McCartney song.. Proves just how deep the talent level is in this band..

Very good review. The sounds he’s referring to on ‘Maxwells…’ might be from among the first recordings of a Moog synthesiser. A lot of people misunderstand the juxtaposed humour against the singalong melody and dark lyrics. He totally gets it. ‘O Darling’ is Paul (although John said he wished he’d sung it). Glad he enjoyed the medley properly. Looking forward to the‘White Album’
Man your love and appreciation for this type of music is truly infectious! You seem to be a very open-minded, precocious and accepting individual. I am the same way. I’m in my 30’s and listen to EVERYTHING!! From any era, any genre. I listen to rock, rap, EDM, blues, country, metal, classical, pop, alternative, punk, everything my guy! If it’s good, and true art, I’ll dig it. I like people like you. Keep it up man!!
Side note: I’ve debated this and really pondered on this for a long time…but I consider “In My Life” by The Beatles to be the greatest song ever written. It’s the song I want playing at my funeral…

At a Billy Joel concert I saw about 15 years ago, Billy did a Beatles tune and said: The Beatles, greatest band there ever was, greatest band there will ever be. Who could have said it any better?
Your point about it not sounding like the other albums and more "mature" is totally right! This was the first and last Beatles album to be recorded on 8-track as opposed to 4 on their previous albums. The biggest thing though was they put it through a solid-state mixing unit that allowed for even more EQ options on each channel. Abbey Road is on so many producers lists as a pinnacle of production and mixing in pop music. That thing came out in 1969 and it sounds like it could've been recorded yesterday.
Abbey Road is my favorite Beatles record, and when I see someone listening to it for the first time, I'm reminded just how great it is.
There is a jazz version released just weeks later called ‘the other side idle Abby road’ by George Benson. If you like any Jazz you will love it.

That was awesome man, I feel like I was hearing the album with new ears watching your reaction video. And I’ve been a Beatles fan for a while but never noticed how much more spectacular the harmonies are here - it’s like taken for granted a lot of time that Beatles songs have harmonies, but you’re right, this album brought it to a new level!
The medley takes me on a long, powerful, very emotional journey

I’m a young Beatles fan as well and the medley took me on that same trip. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
Here Comes the Sun is my favorite George Harrison song! It takes me to my happy place! They triple-stacked the vocal harmonies on Because to make it sound like nine voices instead of three! Also, Because is actually Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata played backwards! You can hear liberal usage of a moog synthesizer on several songs. Play the songs from You Never Give Me Your Money to The End without stopping because it's the infamous MEDLEY! You did a great job catching onto that! And that long guitar solo before The End is John, Paul and George trading off solos right before the piano kicks in. If you keep listening until the very end, you get Paul playing an acoustic song called Her Majesty!
Dude same when I started listening to the Beatles, Abbey Road was the last album I heard and put it to the side simply because it was their most famous and popular one. But after a while I listened to it and I wished I listened to it earlier definitely one of their best.
Side B is considered a Medley, so all those songs are to be listened to all together as one, thats why those last few are super short. Literally From Shes So Heavy all the songs are like one song.
Everyone has a fave Beatles album. Each album they recorded got better than the last…truly, you can start with their first album in chronological order and actually experience the evolution of this band. They started as a pop rock band with 2-3 minute fun songs. Starting with Rubber Soul, they stopped touring completely and became a studio band. In order to stay popular and sell records, EVERY song had to be very good, and very artistic. Every album got better because they became much better musicians, better artists. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band took 18 months to make. 700 hours! And they spent 55 hours on Strawberry Field’s Forever, and it didn’t even make it onto that album! It was so groundbreaking that Brian Wilson, the main songwriter for The Beach Boys, refused to get out of bed for 2 years and just listened to the album with headphones on over and over, in awe of the Beatles talent…I mean every band had to compete with THAT! He wondered how The Beach boys could compete with it? It was the very first concept album. And they created the beginning of Metal Rock and Progressive Rock, and Punk Rock, too, I suppose. Every album after that was beautiful, fun, amazing, stellar work! They felt like Abbey Road would be their last, and it did not disappoint! That medley….was just a bunch of unfinished Beatles songs stitched together so beautifully. The lyrics mean nothing all together. However, each clip has a story behind it. Carry that Weight, was about how every member of this band would have to carry the weight of being a Beatle for the rest of their life, no matter what else they ever did in their careers….whatever else they did would never compare to what the Beatles achieved. The song, The End, featured each of the Beatles musical talent: Ringo and his only drum solo and the other 3 Beatles competing with each other on their guitars, slugging it out…and then, The Beatles very last message to all their millions of fans….”The Love you take is equal to the Love you make!” What a great message! No band had ever done a medley like that before.
The song, Because, featured the Beatles gorgeous harmonies up close and personal….very little instrumentation…just their voices together. You could even hear them breathe together!
You forgot to listen to the last little ditty on that album, Her Majesty. It wasn’t supposed to be there. It was a little clip Paul had sung about Queen Elizabeth. The producer was supposed to cut it out of the final edits and then forgot. That medley was supposed be the big finish. But in a way, Her Majesty was a nice little something for the Queen of England, who had bestowed Royal status to the Beatles, years earlier. They had all became “Members of the British Empire.”
By the way, Maxwell’s Silver Hammer was just for fun. A fun, upbeat song with very dark lyrics. Artistically, what a contrast!
George got 3 songs on this album and John and Paul acknowledged they were probably the best songs on the album, and if they ever made any more albums, they would each get 4 song contributions plus 2 Ringo songs. Unfortunately, this was their last album and George later produced his first album as a double album which won a Grammy!
Sgt Pepper took about 400 hrs....10mths.
The Beatles were breaking up at the time but when they recorded "The End" guitar solo, John, Paul, and George thoroughly enjoyed it. They were jamming and it sounded so good. The engineer recalled John leaving with a big grin on his face. He knew they had created magic.
When you listen to the last track "The End", you're listening to Ringo's only Beatles drum solo. That last guitar jam is Paul, George, and John! Listen closely, and you'll recognize that each phrase taken is taken by a different Beatle, in three rounds, and three different styles and guitar sounds. Paul's melodic lines, George's bluesy vibe, and John's aggressive riffs. If you're listening to the right mix, each Beatles' guitar comes through a different place in your headphones. Paul goes first and plays in your left ear. George goes second, and plays in your right ear. John goes third, and plays centered in both. Then Paul, George, John, Paul, George, John. According to many accounts of people that witnessed this being recorded (their sound engineers, etc.) it was the only time that John threw Yoko out of the studio, because it was a special moment for all four of the Beatles. He wanted to savor it without distraction and just enjoy his brothers.

The medley at the end was intended to be listened to without any pauses and was comprised of a lot of partially finished songs that they compiled together into one long song. Oh Darling, in my opinion, is Paul's best vocal. From my understanding, getting Ringo to play that drum solo was a negotiation. Him not wanting to do it at all and the rest of the band wanting more and more. Ringo famously dislikes drum solos. Definitely a swan song album.

You Never… was recorded by itself. Sun King/Mustard was recorded by itself. Pam/Bathroom was recorded by itself. Slumbers/Weight was recorded by itself. The End was recorded by itself. They were all stitched together at the editing stage.

'Oh Darling' is basically Paul doing Little Richard. John would encourage Paul to do these kinds of things.
As mentioned in other comments, 'I Want You(She's So Heavy)' is John. He also plays the guitar line as he sings. George accompanies. Great playing all around featuring an old friend and master keyboardist Billy Preston. John did have a bluesy side that you can hear more of on the White Album.
It is interesting that you noticed the harmonies. The band had kind of gotten out of the habit of doing this after 'Sgt Pepper...'. They have claimed to be aware while recording this that it could very likely be the last album, each seemed to have varying positions, true to form they put on a show with the ultimate final bow of all time. Besides, George Martin (Sir) make insinuations that he was NOT going to produce it unless everybody joined in....especially John (who ended up missing a few tracks anyway due to a car crash. A terrible driver)

@hungfao, In my opinion, Little Richard NEVER sang the way PAUL is singing in "OH DARLING" Little Richard didn't have the amount of GRIT and GROWL in his vocals as Paul does in "OH Darling" (and I am a fan of Little Richard's music and I never heard him have a vocal like Paul's in that song. )

The medley is like the finale of a fireworks show. I love how they fire dozens of genius song ideas in a matter of minutes. This could easily have been another double album.
