When you realize Neil wrote most of their songs, including this one, and you actually read the lyrics, kind of brings a tear to your eye, because they lyrics are so well laid out, it paints a picture in your head, and pretty much every song is based on pure freedom and life in its purest form. Rush is and always will be timeless and rust proof. I wish they had a museum made for them entirely.
Neil got this song from a story he read in road and track and gives credit to the author in the liner notes to moving pictures. Years later he arranged to meet the guy and they rode their motor cycles through the Appalachians to Rush's next concert where he was given the vip treatment. 😊

I always really loved this song a lot. I’m glad it’s not just me. This is a gateway drug offered by the players to become associated with freedom by providing an exciting escapist thrill-ride so we could learn to enjoy our minds. Listen, millions of people have come to the teachings of Peart through his always excellent efforts. He taught us that we are above our captivity. He taught us how to see it. He rushed in and saved us. I have an argument that Peart and Co. are QAnon. The graphic novel of 2112 just about proves it timing wise. But, either way, whoever is the Q Group, certainly have listened to and found their hearts for freedom partly by listening to, reading, and understanding the messages given to us by Rush. So, I salute the dynamic trio for soldering for nearly fifty years bringing millions upon millions of us to our senses and priming the pump which is now draining swamps worldwide in unison. We are all Q now. I think Rush definitely deserves a humanitarian award for their lifetime of service and making it sound good. Always outside of the system. Working. I wonder how many people get this point? Neil said that it was great to finally be “indicted” into the Rock Hall of Fame. A masterpiece. Rush was absolutely the most precision rock band ever. I saw them in Dallas in the early 1980's. Their concerts were spot-on with their albums. I'm 62 now and remain a loyal fan. Certainly one of Canada's best rock bands.
I stumbled onto the Exit Stage Left cassette tape in the basement of a house at an 8th great party. From there, I listened to it every day on my Walkman while delivering newspapers every afternoon. "Red Barchetta" is, in my opinion, about as close to songwriting perfection--the synergistic marriage of great lyrics to great music--as there is. Arguably, it's the most "cinematic" song in the history of recorded music--certainly in the history of recorded rock music. Incidentally, at the one-lane bridge, 76 people were left stranded at the riverside.
i pray that neil is in Heaven. He definetly knew somethings about the Bible and God. a few examples are distant early warning when at the end of the song he writes "Absolom' who is king Davids son who wants the throne his father has, before he is ready for it. Hence the title"distant early warning" and at the end of "big money" he writes "big money got no soul". And Jesus said" verily verily I say unto you,how hardly is he who has riches to enter into The Kingdom of God". so i pray that Neil and us all have believed in The Lord Jesus Christ as our personal savior so we might all be forgiven of our sins and those who are no longer with us, taken into The Kingdom of Heaven. My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

This old Aussie has been listening to this band since1974, without doubt three of the most talented musicians to have ever graced the planet, giving us diverse intellectual music with thought provoking lyrics, masterful playing and composers of the highest degree, can anyone tell me of another band that you can listen to the same song three times, but listening to just Neil's drums, then Geds bass, then Alex on guitar,I can't think of another band that can make you do that, we get triple value out of each song, just unberfuckingleavable.
I say the same thing at work listening to the "radio "..bands just dont have it. I followed this band growing up. They will tour again my friend 🤘
RUSH is perfect 🍀🍀🍀🍀!!!!!!!
Eh,these Canadian come in a 3 piece kit,we want them back after!
Classic Situations finally another Aussie who knows who this band is! 😃
An other Great band on equal caliber is Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Rush is the band every other band wishes they were!!!!
Jerry Garcia says hold my beer.
@@markkindermannart4028 Grateful Dead is a pretty sick band. I would still prefer to be a Rush style band tho
More of a James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine type of guy, but Rush is awesome !
Thank you Canada
sparkdog 494 don’t thank us, thank them
You're welcome. 😁🇨🇦
Rush is the only band I know that did not conform to public opinion and did what they wanted to do and it was awesome
Holy crap those computer graphics were awesome. Haha. This is such a great version of this song.
My parent's first date was a Rush concert
Infinity On High-Functioning Sociopath very cool !
That’s quite a first date
That's a date you don't forget! Che forza!
Too bad you never saw that "young" side of your parents....they were so cool back then....what a bummer, they of all people trying to give you " good advice" in your life...after what they did..back then. ;) lol
That's cool, I met my wife at a show
Rush is timeless and saw the future...
Legends. Seen them in buffalo right after this show. Best concert ever period.
Neil can't just keep a simple beat can he? Damn every song is an adventure. You, sometimes, have to listen to a song several times just to follow an individual player. Classic.
6:13 this part of the song is my favorite!!!!!
RIP Neil Peart. The greatest drummer and lyricist in rock music.
How could anyone not like this? This was 80s rock at its finest!!
I'm here because I'm sad but this song makes me feel good. RIP Neil.
I'd be sad too if my name was Harry Sack!
Saw “Moving Pictures” Tour in September 1981 at the Hemisfair Arena in San Antonio, Texas. The greatest concert of my young life. Was a freshman in high school (Texas Military Institute) at the time. What a great pleasure and honor to see the guys play. One of the many blessings in my life.
2024 and still rocking
A masterpiece. Rush was absolutely the most precision rock band ever. I saw them in Dallas in the early 1980's. Their concerts were spot-on with their albums. I'm 62 now and remain a loyal fan. Certainly one of Canada's best rock bands.
Bro. They have the top 3 spots on Canada's all-time band list
I stumbled onto the Exit Stage Left cassette tape in the basement of a house at an 8th great party. From there, I listened to it every day on my Walkman while delivering newspapers every afternoon. As an aspiring drummer, I felt like I had found something very special and incredibly important. My life changed as a result of this live album.
I could be having the worst possible day but when a rush song comes on...Life gets breathed back into my soul.
some elements of this video have not aged well- but i'm happy to say I was lucky enough to see Rush 4 times- best live band EVER
seriously one of the greatest rock songs ever written.....thank you Rush!
Definitely
A masterpiece. So exhilarating!
Still amazing 40 years later. Will still be amazing 40 years from now. And 40 years after that. And 40 years after that. Neil, thank you and R.I.P.
... and 40 years after that.
For Those Teenagers looking for their Ultimate Car Song... For we old Guys looking for our Youth with the Ultimate car song,...There is No Better Than This!
Nowadays car songs be about civics and teslas instead of old Ferraris
After all this time, when I hear the opening harmonics, I get goosebumps. Hearing this song is like visiting with an old friend.
Possibly their greatest song...prove me wrong.❤
Holy shit this sounds incredible. They're always incredible live but this fedelity is ridiculous. Every bass note is so clear.
Joel D. Terry You are absolutely right.
This song is quite close to perfection in every aspect.
Perfectly said.
Joel D. Terry The trees
Also a masterpiece
Amen. It really doesn’t get any better than this.
It's a very visual song. I can see it and hear it, and that is perfect.
Sounds almost identical to the studio version, damn!
And is what made this whole LP so amazing.
I'm not saying i'm old, but when i saw them, the stage and video was exactly like this video.
@@brewhaha1555 Yes, and it was amazing. Best live rock show from 78 to 88.
Best comment. Not a lot of bands can pull that off.
Man, to be alive when so much great music was created, too great.
Never ever will there ever no never be a band like Rush.
I imagine Neil's travelling that trippy road in the afterlife on some heavenly motorcycle.
i pray that neil is in Heaven. Amen
@Tom Bombadil Roman's 6' 7.."He who dies is acquitted of sin."....I live by that..And I wholeheartedly agree with you.
This song is got to be the best driving song ever written! Everytime i take a drive, i crank this one up in my car radio! Just awesome! Rip🙏Neil Pert👋😢you're definetly will be missed!
All Time Driving Tune, no doubts. I have driven at some ridiculous speeds listening to this song, then YYZ keeps it totally alive! Thanks RUSH!
Two words: freaking called it!
Sounds exactly like the fucking album! Awesome!!
At the peak of their power. Alex's solo is perfection... truly sounds like a car taking off.
Red Barchetta has to be one of the smoothest songs ever. Blast it while driving on the highway.
I freaking agree with you on this one!
I am always blown away by Alex's incredible guitar playing throughout this entire show!
Caleb Bartlett plus the amazing guitar faces
He also looks great, all around chills. what a legend
@@zachsmith3 agree. Not that it matters much, but Alex around this period looks his best / healthiest. This era was Rush in their absolute prime imo. The goldilocks zone between the early minimalistic effects & screaming years, and the later new wave era where Alex's guitars were buried under a mountain of synthesizers.
I sometimes can't believe all that guitar is from one guitar player... It's absolutely mind-blowing
My friend had a red Chevy Baretta in the late 80s. It was OUR Red Barchetta. Vrooooommm!!!
Corsica Beretta was a good run for the bow tie indeed well made car it did last well
I was very luck to have seen RUSH twice, once in Greensboro , NC and then in Fresno Ca. .
Somewhere, out there in The Universe, Neil is driving his "Red Barchetta" , and the stars are flying by, Suns are simultaneously being born and going Supernova , Galaxys are being consumed by Black Holes, and The Cosmos is now perfectly in Sync! Rest In Peace to the Greatest Drummer of modern times, you will be missed
One prime example of how to take you on rollercoaster via 3 brilliant musicians, if you don't like this you don't really love music.
Just my humble, 57 yo opinion, one of the best songs, lyrically and instrumentally, in history
"Neil Ellwood Peart"
September 12, 1952 -- January 7, 2020.
"A Farewell to a King"👑
My heroes.
RIP Neil. This is my favorite Rush song.
Mine as well.
@POINTTWOFIVEMOA It did that to me.
All that from 3 guys! Damn! Neil Peart is a beast!
sasquatch to be exact??
I know this post was 5 years ago but I still got to say yeah sometimes I forget there's only three of them up there.
Thank you Canada for Rush.
Literally the greatest music lineup ever…….
The planets were definitely aligned the day these guys met!!! ❤️✌️❤️
1/10/2020 remembering Neil Peart. Thoughts and prayers to his family including Alex and Geddy. Thanks for the great music...
Best concert ever!
I bet! I wish I had seen them live 😪
When MTV was great! first seen this concert on MTV in 1981, still awesome footage!
now mtv only plays reality shows and rap videos.
Can't believe Neil isn't alive! It still doesn't seem real. He was truly one of the greatest musicians who ever lived! Rush was the music of my generation, and will be with me until I'm gone!
They can scatter my ashes to that recording in Montreal that nite...
I miss you professor. ♥️
Used to play the Moving pictures vinyl album in 1982. As a drummer it was an absolutely brilliant album on vinyl. In the 22nd century the folk will be raving about Limelight and Tom Sawyer and Red Barchetta and all the albums Rush generously gifted the world. Thank you so much.
i drive a red manual 5.0 mustang, every time i hear this song in the car i just wanna drop it into 2nd and stand on the throttle.
Man this brings back memories. I wore out the Moving Pictures casette.
I have my own red barchetta. 1946 John Deere model D
Many of the early Rush songs were about freedom and openness, something most people no longer value these days. This is one of these songs.
In my opinion, this is one of their BEST songs, musically and lyrically.
Geddy's Rickenbacker 4001 is the best sound he's ever had
If that were so he wouldn't have switched to his Jazz Bass.
Ged always had the best sound, the man isn't human!
@@williambradley8004 - Ah... The joys of a great big fat endorsement contract from Fender! 😁Suddenly everything's different and better and the past never happened...
What's significant is that Geddy took his Rickenbacker 'signature sound' to Fender when he made the move; they very kindly reverse-engineered the pop, crack, grind and snarl to produce the Geddy Lee bass.
Hmm.
It may say Fender on the headstock, but what we're hearing is pure Ricky.
1980-1983 was their wheelhouse. Top of their game here.
I frighten LOVE Geddy’s bass sound.
Is it just me or does Rush makes bass guitar seem AWESOME?
Dave Rowe so does primus
Baron Mike Mangini
But rush inspired les clay
I don't know what you mean by "seem". The bass guitar *is* an awesome instrument. It's just that Geddy Lee is a fucking legend-no, a god-when it comes to bassists.
Stoned Stupid i was going to say those exact same words but you beat me to it a year before i could
Geddy's playing a Rickenbacker 4001 which is well known for it's punchy low end. It really pops through the mix.
