M62TU Timing Guide DIY - Pt1 Teardown | 540i Restoration

In this 1st part we will be removing components to get to our timing chains. Along the way we are going to cover a lot of "while you're in there" components. I build a tool to hold the crank so I can get the bolt off and clean a whole lot of parts.

Thanks a lot for including all details and your tips in the video. I saw a black plastic piece in my M62B44 a few months ago when I dropped the pan. Now I am scared thinking it was the tabs of center u guide.

There is a very real chance it’s wearing like mine was. Not falling apart but slowly wearing through. My M5 has similar mileage and no parts in the pan either. I know I’ll have to address it, just holding my breath it doesn’t let go.
