When I was in Phuket the last time (10 years ago now), I deliberately went around considering life long term there and went into the supermarkets to check prices. Made the same observations, particularly about imported products.
Wine, cheese, western brand spirits, were all pretty expensive, but in contrast Thai beer, local produce and seafood was considerably cheaper than back home in the UK. I can't remember the exact prices, but for example fish like salmon, or sea bass, starts at about £15+ a kilo, and I remember red snapper fillets being a fraction of that. My conclusion was that it would be no real big sacrifice to cut cheese out of my diet, drink far less wine, and eat more seafood and local food, and live far more economically than back home.

this was my first time watching your video! Maybelle is the cutest : ) I love her since of humor, the way she thinks, and her overall business ethic. It’s not too often that you can find a nice balance. I can see why you married her Richie. The chemistry is awesome when both of you are laughing and working together. granola is easy to make yourself and you'll save a bundle. I buy almonds, raisins, goji berries and rolled oats at makro and other assorted nuts and dried fruit on lazada. Mixing in honey and cinnamon with oats and nuts before baking lightly. Don't bake with the dried fruit as they burn easily...

I live in Namibia - on the 'Skeleton Coast' - and, like you, decided to leave the 'rat race' (it wasn't THAT bad though) of hot and dusty Windhoek, the capital and am now settled here at the cool coast. Hello Richie and Maybelle! The garden looks great even in the rain! Can't wait to be back there and say hello and join you for a nice bar b q night. The new products look great. My son and daughter-in-law infuse all kinds of things here. The cooking oils are my favorite. I'll be back in November and after two or three days in Bangkok I will make my way down to see and spend a few days on Kata Hill and of course come on up to see you guys before heading up to Chiang Mai and moving in there for the winter.
hi Richie, just a fools advice. maybe change the outside gardens roofs from natural to steel roof sheeting. I know its expensive and you may loose ambionce. but end of the day, it will be maintenence free.

hello folks, always enjoy keeping up with you, my Brother Chris married a Thai lady, so I have spent a lot of time visiting them an holidays in Koh Samui and Phuket. I understand the life and some of the language, can I ask/suggest in order to get the feel of things, you include a reference to the temperatures? As a 'Farang' from Europe the high temperatures feature quite prominently in day to day life. Hope you agree? lots of love Peter
