Always wanted one but they were a bit out of my price range. I've got several bikes even a RG500 stuffed into a 93 Honda MC21. I really wanted a twin in the line up. I picked up a nicely mod'ed Superhawk for $1200. Of course it's a much more street oriented bike. A bit more comfortable too. Nevertheless, the big twin works very well. It's a nice departure from the other 4 cylinders I have. Great work on the video 👍

If all goes well, I'll be picking up a black SP2 today. Has some very tasteful upgrades, average miles and a good price. Back in the day I owned #236 RC30. This isn't the same but it will be nice to have a race inspired bike again. Currently riding (1 of 7 bikes) a high mileage Superhawk. It's fun and reliable but a bit of a beater. I'm pretty excited to have filled my wish list. I'm done. Finally done with the wishing.😁 P.S. Just realized I had committed before on this video. Instead of just watching, I'm doing my pre-purchase research. Due to parking space. I'll have to send the Superhawk down the road. The next owner will get a solid bike for a good price. Not only is the RC51 coming home. So is a DRZsm. Two of my wish-list bikes to complete the list. Maybe I'll do a walk-around with the two bikes soon. I'll include the recently acquired ZRX1200 as well. Good Lord this place is getting full.😎
RC30 is a nice looking bike but overrated otherwise, and can’t touch an RC51 on the street or track. SuperHawk is probably the last best kept bang for the buck secret.
@@FancyAnimal The RC30 is highly appreciated because of its rarity and exotic makeup. Also have to compare it to the counterparts of it's day. Mine was a 1990. That was the end of the run so it was really a 1988 bike. The last 300 came to the States. I agree. The Superhawk is underrated fun.
@@franktaylor7617 there are certain bikes that have the pedigree and the performance to match their perceived value, like a 916, Desmo RR, or 675 Daytona. The RC30 isn’t worth 10k, let alone the 40 or 50k these collectors are shelling-out. There are a lot of people buying stuff for the totemic idea of what something is, rather than the reality of what it actually is. The ego is a hell of a drug.
@@FancyAnimal There's a lot of people that would disagree with you. We're all entitled to voice an option. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Take art for example. I wouldn't pay $10 of some of that crap. I might pay $10 hauled away from my front yard. Yet people pay thousands of not hundreds of thousands. The RC30 is worth what people pay for them. Not liking its performance or thinking it's overrated doesn't change anything. It IS a very limited production race bike. Meant for endurance racing, not sprints. Maybe the OW01 is overrated too? In my opinion. Anyone thinking the RC30 doesn't perform well compared to a completely newer or different class of booked. Simply doesn't understand what the RC was intended to be. With that being said. Opinions are like bellybuttons and a$$ holes. Everybody has at least one.
@@FancyAnimal P.S. I passed on the RC51SP2. It did have some nice upgrades but it's covered in Chinese knockoff bodywork. The guy never mentioned it and I failed to ask. Some sketchyness with the title lead me to believe it was a wrecked rebuild or X race bike. Even with almost $2000 off the asking price. I was no longer interested. 400 Mile drive round trip. Nevertheless I did end up with the DRZsm for a fair price. The RC51 will have to wait until I find the right bike. I'm in no hurry. The Superhawk will fill the twin cylinder slot for now. 👍
Such a cool bike. From those years I preferred the CBR954RR for the all around Sports bike. It was faster, gobs of torque, and happier to ride around town. However, owning a track purposed race bike on the streets on the RC51 was way unique. I also loved the way they sounded like a helicopter landing at idle with the right exhaust.
Both cool bikes. I don't think a 954 is faster around a track than an RC51...maybe at the top end of a straight line. Power commander makes the around town habits between the bikes the same.
I had an SP1 and have an SP2 .... Fantastic bike I had one of my worst tank slappers on the SP2 ...... It got a Scott's damper that same week and it's never done it again
I’m happy I had enough sense to fall for these while they were new. I’m mad that I didn’t have enough sense to know how legendary they would be viewed down the road, bc I sold mine….. for a cbr1000……. Wtf man
It’s funny you should say that. The bike featured in the video was almost sold for a CBR 1000. He had a minor accident and the insurance company was going to give him a lot of money so he had considered selling the bike for a new CBR 1000. I talked him out of it.
When was the last time you listened to Scorpions Wind of Change? I rode the 2004 1000R, 2013 RSV4, and 2020 RSV4 1100. All good bikes. Mile is on my list of beste motorräder aller zeiten. Prost!
@@FancyAnimal Oh thats a long time ago now ;D haha thank you I appreciate it and you videos too. I would like to buy a mile or an sp2 and that sp2 is riding so smooth. Prost! :)
All of the services can be done at home, including the valve adjustment. My 2006 has 25k, and the valve check is still within factory specifications without need of adjustment. I think I wasted 95 dollars on buying the shim kit. My only concern is about the front brake disks. Nowhere to be found, other than junk yards, and good luck there too. The engine does enough braking when you get off the throttle, so not like the front brakes get used much anyway. City stuff, lights, signs, idiots pulling out, etc. Great bike, I'll take mine to the grave.
No that was before GoPro, when whiskey was cheap and women were cheaper. But here’s a video of my Ducati getting run over. Cheers! ua-cam.com/video/ibHVyup5iwA/v-deo.html
good review. I've always had a thing for the rc51, I'll always regret getting a 929 instead of an rc51. and I think the most important thing about it, especially the sp2, is it was an affordable piece of hrc kit
Sold my 929 and bought an SP1, both great examples of Honda builds . Still have it , sits beside my 22Busa, ride it whenever I need a smile . Horrible in town honestly, but what a beautiful thing ! Plan to be buried with it !
Talk about tank slapped my mate had one he never experienced tank slippers as bad as he did on his sp1 , I was behind him both times , the smoke off the front tyre when he landed the wheelies
I knew the RC51 didn't come with a factory steering damper. I thought that black knob thingy might have been an aftermarket damper. I read your reply and took another look at the video. And I have to agree with you. Thanks for the response and setting me straight Fancy Animal.

I'm done. Finally done with the wishing.😁
P.S.
@@FancyAnimal
The RC30 is highly appreciated because of its rarity and exotic makeup.
@@FancyAnimal
There's a lot of people that would disagree with you.
@@FancyAnimal
P.S.
👍
Love your vids. I would like to see you do a video on the cross plane R1.✌
Beat sounding 4. What year R1 is your favorite? I’m partial to the ‘98 in white with red accents...even with the red seat!
I have almost the same setup on my RC51, I do have a Durbahn air box. But also have have the Sato's low mount...
Fantastic bike
I had one of my worst tank slappers on the SP2 ...... It got a Scott's damper that same week and it's never done it again
How fast were you going on that wobble?

Noice, love my RC... bring on summer!
Marvelous sound ❤️
Love this video!
The sound is the most famous thing at this bike 👌
They sold for 10K back then. Now people are trying to sell used ones for more with 30k miles on them.
The Cars and Coffee intro is good, need more of that Seinfeld impression. Im in South Bay if you want to test a Royal Enfield Conti GT650.
Superbe vidéo, moto mythique
They look a bit different in Australia. I had an all red SP1. The SP2 is very similar to this one
My favorite sport bike ever
How much kilos are the wheels from sp2? Are lighter from wheels cbr 08-12?
Man I'm putting back my Harris high mounts back on tomorrow, stock is way too quiet for this bike. Time to shake the ground again
I remember around my house one off Tease. Sp2 Whith yoshi exaust sound like chopper .Congrats from Uruguay.
I‘ve just watched few videos and I love how you really inspect the bikes like an engineer. Have you ever riden the rsv mille around pd.2001?
What is PD? Police Department? Puffer Doll? Pupillary Distance?
@@FancyAnimal production date xD sorry I am from Germany, I thought you could figure it out like that^^
When was the last time you listened to Scorpions Wind of Change? I rode the 2004 1000R, 2013 RSV4, and 2020 RSV4 1100. All good bikes. Mile is on my list of beste motorräder aller zeiten. Prost!
@@FancyAnimal Oh thats a long time ago now ;D haha thank you I appreciate it and you videos too. I would like to buy a mile or an sp2 and that sp2 is riding so smooth. Prost! :)
I have an SP2 and I love it... BUT... I ❤️ my RC45 more....😊😂😊
Need to try a nice Aprilia RSVR to see how it compares. Another incredible value for $5500, with Ohlins.
The Aprilia is at another level. Honda should have done an SP3 to catch-up.
Bike is amazing. Love the sound these things make.
btw, how are those Massachusetts's Staties with bikers these days?
Business as usual. They’re tucked behind every highway shrubbery and bridge buttress in the state.
so the one use by rossi was the radiator is in front or side?
All of the services can be done at home, including the valve adjustment. My 2006 has 25k, and the valve check is still within factory specifications without need of adjustment. I think I wasted 95 dollars on buying the shim kit. My only concern is about the front brake disks. Nowhere to be found, other than junk yards, and good luck there too. The engine does enough braking when you get off the throttle, so not like the front brakes get used much anyway. City stuff, lights, signs, idiots pulling out, etc. Great bike, I'll take mine to the grave.
Do you have the video from the night of the crash? I just found your channel and like the content, I hope you make much more!!
No that was before GoPro, when whiskey was cheap and women were cheaper. But here’s a video of my Ducati getting run over. Cheers!

Smart guy.. great review
Amazed Honda used THAT modern of a gauge waaay back then. CBR didn't get that for another decade+.
Looks like you really enjoyed riding that bike. Such a cool piece of Honda history. They just don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
It’s a gem and the prices unfortunately reflect this. Cheers!
What was the cam/mic you used?
You did a really nice job with this video. You can tell you put a lot of work into it. 👍
@@BikesandBriar iPhone 11. Helmet Mic is Sony ECM-CS3. Thanks for the positive feedback. Cheers!
@@FancyAnimal was that what you used for the front of your helmet or a GoPro? If it was your iPhone 11, how did you mount it?
@@BikesandBriar I used a front mount GoPro for the ride along and the iPhone for everything else.
Great vid skills. Yer good. Informed
You’re getting a Snickers
Enjoy your videos, make some more :)
good review. I've always had a thing for the rc51, I'll always regret getting a 929 instead of an rc51. and I think the most important thing about it, especially the sp2, is it was an affordable piece of hrc kit
yes, but there are not many 929's around either.
Love That #69 🇺🇸 Decal On It.
Is that not a steering damper that running through the steering stem?
No, that’s a phone mount. It has no steering damper.
I knew the RC51 didn't come with a factory steering damper. I thought that black knob thingy might have been an aftermarket damper. I read your reply and took another look at the video. And I have to agree with you. Thanks for the response and setting me straight Fancy Animal.

Love the sound of a 90° Vtwin sports engine. Cruising at 90 mph it sounds like an airplane prop just above idle. BZZZZZZZ
Job well done.
#Honda rc51 , #Nickyhadens #69 , One ever Dam race , RipNH , Hondas #1 hands down !
Thank you for all of the info. Anyone tell you that you sound a bit like Bill Burr the comedian?
So since this bike is rare in my country, its hardly exist in the marketplace. The only one i found has 125k odo on it. Is it still worth to get?
