@Big_Mike_Muniz nice build, looks fun. I have a stock gen 1 in an mg midget, looking at building the APE 1600 to replace it... I assume your pretty happy with it. Any advice? Did you change anything else on the engine (cams, injectors, trans, etc)?

Nice one bro.
However, the usual sequential gearshift movement is to pull upshifts toward the driver. Downshifts are by pushing the shifter toward the dash.
Think about it: as you accelerate, the vehicles inertia pushes you into the seat, making it more difficult to push the lever forward for an upshift.

This is not a traditional automotive sequential setup. My setup has the cluch lever on the gear stick. My car is setup with an electronic shifter system. Clutch only on 1st... then just tap the gear stick forward for upshifts. For downshifts... you would have to use the clutch lever for each gear. It would be counterintuitive to pull and engage the clutch while pushing forward. That is the reason downshift is pull (down) and upshift is push (up). Also if your seat is in a proper race position, you should be close to the steering wheel and your elbows bent, The inertia mentioned during acceleration would have minimum to no affect on your shifting.
