You’re so welcome Yvonne! Thanks so much for your lovely message 🤗 I clicked into this one again to remind me of this lovely trip - I was so glad to finally make it to camp at the lake, nice memories!! Take care! 😊
Hi Miriam, Wow, what a breathtaking cinematic footage! The rugged terrain has a natural beauty that is unparalleled. The ancient church at the front of your video is a beautiful piece of history left behind for us to enjoy. Very nice video share. Subbed and a big thumbs up.
Thanks very much Cindy, lovely to hear from you! This is tough terrain to walk but the higher you go it seems to get a bit easier. Really rugged mountains and very remote. Such a great place to visit and spend some time. The Dunlewey church is a great thrill to see alright! Thanks for watching and subbing - lovely to hear that you enjoyed it! 😊
Catching up on some older videos that UA-cam has recommended on a lazy Sunday morning. I watch a lot of UK channels and get envious of the Lakes and Scottish mountains but this video (as well as Gerry McVeigh's recent one in the same location) have reminded me of the beautiful mountains I have right here on my own doorstep. Thanks for sharing this great trip 👍🙂
Thanks Niall!! This was my third attempt at trying to capture this area as the weather gods kept messing with me on other trips! Great to finally get lucky - third time lucky and all that!! Thanks for watching it and your message, I just rewatched it again now to remind myself, such a fab spot - more exploring for me needed in Donegal. We have a great doorstep for sure 😊
Day I was on Slieve Snaght, couldn't see the hand in front of my face. Thanks Miriam, now I've seen what I missed, quite spectacular. Your channel is just brilliant, my new addiction 😀
Wahoooooo!! That’s great to hear you’re enjoying the videos 😊 This was my third attempt at trying to video this spot…the other times would have been a video of me holed up in the tent cursing the midges or being rained out of it on lower ground. Third time lucky and all that!! 😊
@@MiriamKennedy 😀 We were almost into the lough before we saw it, that's how horrible the weather was. Very lucky our leader was good on the map and compass, cos it's hairy country up there in mist. Following day we had glorious clear skies up on Dooish, and it's satellites. I would really love to try the wild camping, think I'll give it a go this summer, try and ease myself into it!
@@pipandbenji oh Lord - that sounds nasty to have such little visibility, that terrain is challenging even when you can see everything!! I hope you go for it with the wild camping - that’s the highlight for me, the hiking is secondary to the enjoyment I get from being in a tent - I love it!! Not sure what it is - maybe the simplicity of a life with all you need on your back. I only got into hiking as I wanted to go out in a tent on my own. I did a Mountain Skills course to learn how to read a map so that I could go wild camping - I was the odd ball at the course who answered ‘why do you want to learn how to navigate’ with a reponse ‘caus I want to go out in a tent’. I honestly had no experience with hiking at all, little did I know what was to come!
@@MiriamKennedy I'm hillwalking a long time, have done the MS1, and comfortable with navigating, but when in a group, its always easier to be the 'zombie ' navigator at the back lol. Joking aside, especially when you walk solo, it's definitely worth having nav skills. Next skills will be tent skills!!!!
Miriam, bag puss is cool😊 A beautiful view over that old church and that is one of my favourite starting points for walking that area. You can never truly rely on the weather forecast on the mountains out far west🌨 Fantastic light and views over the Poisoned Glen. Lovely aerial views of those little loughs (that I have walked past often) and Lough Slieve Snaght up high and a fantastic view over to Errigal and the rest of the Derryveaghs from the summit👍 it is a beautifully wild and remote place to camp. Always good to have the proper sleeping gear as there is nothing worse than a cold sleep❄ An enjoyable watch alright😊👍
Cheers Gerry! Bagpuss is the star for sure!! A great place to walk and camp - especially with decent weather to allow such fab visibility. Everything went smoothly on this one compared to my last visit, nice to have been able to complete the walk I had originally planned to do! Great little adventure in a wonderful area 🤗
Cheers!! Alone is how I like it 😊 I find it a very special experience to be spending time in nature by myself. Very different when with others and also it’s different when I bring the camera along. I do trips with no camera at all as it’s just quite different when thinking about a video. It’s the most satisfying thing that I’ve found in life to go camping alone! Having good gear means I can keep going in colder weather - once I learnt what worked for me. This winter will be my first with a four season tent so I’ll get a few camps in hopefully! Thanks for watching the video 🤗
Thanks Jordan - it is a beautiful place alright! I’ve a definite soft spot for pitching a tent at mountain lakes. Views from the summit were great. Thanks for watching 🤗
Cheers Mark, yep a beautiful spot! Another UA-camr has just commented to say to me that he’s pretty sure he saw a drone picture a while ago of someone showing the drone on the church!! It might make it home again yet 🤞
That was beautiful Miriam. Amazing drone footage as always.Try not to lose this one. Always nice to have a nosey at what kit people use and its a very nice set up you have.Having confidence in your gear makes it a bit easier to sleep I think. Atb, joe
Thanks very much Joe! I might need to keep my mouth shut if I lose the drone again 🤦♀️ Yeah, having confidence in gear adds to the pleasure for sure. Even if I don’t sleep I enjoy lying in the tent awaiting the sunrise! Thanks for watching the video Joe!! 👍
Thanks Olive, delighted you liked the video! Slieve Snaght is definitely worth adding to that bucket list for sure! It took me a few attempts to get there - the weather got the better of me until that final attempt. Delighted I went back and that I got to see those views. Thanks for your message, much appreciated! 🤗
A great video Miriam. I like MSR too. My Summer backpacking tent is an Elixer & I am very fond of it. My most comfortable, warmest tent came from Lidl. Its a tad too heavy for one person & only bring it car camping trips or back packing with my son. It was €40 if memory. The lining allows zero light in.
Hi Colman - MSR is definitely a quality brand. I was always eyeing up the Hubba Hubba before I bought it, I eventually took the plunge and I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t think it deserves to be 4 times the price of the Vango Zenith that I previously had but I still love it. The MSR Access 2 hasn’t disappointed for colder weather camping now too. Pricey but quality tents. I think the Elixir is similar to the Access with less mesh than the Hubba Hubba and is a bit lighter than the Elixir too. Haven’t tried the Lidl tent but for car camping it sounds like you got a definite winner!! I do like being in a tent 😊 Nice to hear from you!
Thanks Tom! That was a nice trip to do…when I take the footage, I always think why am I doing this, but then when I put it together, I get such a thrill to see it all again and have the reminder of the great trip! Thanks a million for your message 😊
Absolutely Amazing watch Miriam , you truly are a natural at speaking to the camera , really enjoyed it . I'm a Dub living in Donegal and great to see new routes that i can venture and hopefully build up the confidence to wild camp , I have all the gear but I just haven't took that first step . The fear of the unknown . Keep up the great work entertaining us . you are most certainly on my shortlist of subscribed channels that I will look forward to seeing future videos.
Aw thank you so much Mark, that’s really nice to hear! I hope you take a step to wild camping - it sounds like you definitely want to!! I spent a long time looking at camping and backpacking gear before it fully dawned on me that I wanted to do it. When I finally joined the dots and realised that I wanted to do it, I took my time getting gear together etc and then went to a spot that was pretty familiar to me. It was a place in Wicklow that I had walked and often fantasised about being in a tent - I knew that place had to be my first spot! I wasn’t even into hiking at this stage, it wasn’t something I did. I truly haven’t stopped since then, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it but I had a grin from ear to ear and that feeling hasn’t changed when I go out in the tent. I’ve been doing it about 5 years now and its only in the last 2 years or so that I’ve started exploring more of Ireland in a tent. Being out in a tent is the most content that I feel in life. The freedom and simplicity of it seems to satisfy my soul!! It could be like that for you too, I don’t know but it sounds like theres an urge to try it so I hope you do!! 🤞 Thanks!
@@MiriamKennedy Yeah i have been following a couple of youtubers doing wild camps now a good while (HAZE OUTDOORS AND GERRY FROM WALKING AND WILD CAMPING IRELAND) I have all the gear that i would need for a wildcamp from cooking set ups to a decent tent and sleep system. I have camped on designated camp sites but i havent experienced the freedom of pitching in the wilderness . I most certainly will take the plunge .
@@markmaguire3119 that’s great! I hope that if you go out in the cold that you’ll be warm enough and not get put off 🤞 It truly is the most satisfying thing I’ve found in life 🤗 I’d love to hear how you get on when you go for it!!
@@MiriamKennedy yea, that’s the one! Stunning! As I’ve always said, you are an amazingly creative artist, adventurer and person! Yea, doing a lot this year, in France at moment reconnecting with a past life after a fashion . . . !
So well done. Thank you for the exceptional footage and music. You've given us a marvelous view of the area. I live in Montana and we have bears and moose in the mountains. Sometimes that doesn't work out so well to poke around in their territory. 😃
Thanks Kriss for watching the video of this little adventure! Really glad you enjoyed it 🤗 It’s a beautiful part of our country and great for me to be able to spend some time there alone with the mountains. Wow - thanks for letting me know about the moose and bears, it sounds so exotic to our landscape yet obviously has its challenges for hiking a d camping that we don’t encounter! My only genuine danger seems to be the risk of me falling and injuring myself and being unable to get help - I tend to do my trips alone so it’s obviously a risk. Im getting better at giving my planned route to friends before I head off. I’m pretty cautious I think but accidents of course can happen, fingers crossed I continue to be safe 🤞 Friends and family imagine I should be afraid of murderers or rapists when I’m out in the mountains - I feel very safe in that department while out camping, not the typical territory for threatening people! Thanks again for watching and getting in touch!! 🤗
Wow Miriam, this is really fabulous footage and sharing of your experience. I am an armchair wild camper living the adventure with your great videos. Thanks again.
Cheers Tess! It’s a wonderful spot - glad I got to finish my planned route and that I was lucky enough to eventually see the views. Really nice night away in the tent - great that you joined me from the armchair 😉 Thanks!!
Miriam, that's a great video the views and scenery around Derryveagh is outstanding. We're planning a hike and wild camp at Lough Slieve Snaght this month so really appreciate the GR of where you set up as that looks like a great spot.
Oh lucky you Mike! Yeah it was a nice little green patch to pitch which worked out well. I’d wanted to camp there for a good while so it was great to finally get there and find a spot. Hope you get decent weather for your hike and camp 🤞Thanks very much for your message - I feel a need to visit Donegal pretty soon!! 😊
@@MiriamKennedy we're based in Coleraine so the Glens of Antrim and the Sperrins are our usual hiking places. Really looking forward to exploring Derryveagh as it looks awesome... it's been on my to do list for nearly a year now, but life and kids have got in the way. I've been looking at maps and other people's hike's looking for a place to camp up so you're video was perfect.
Only picked up this now tonight Miriam, beautiful video, you brought life and colour and emotion and fun to the wild Derryveaghs! Our gang was up there last weekend but didn’t make it to Slieve Snacht, lovely way to keep in touch with your wandering, thank! Michael
Cheers Michael 😊 I loved it - nice to finally make it to a place I wanted to pitch. I’ve a thing for camping at mountain lakes it seems - especially when the midges aren’t around! I’ve another spot in mind for this weekend with the camera that I know you’ve visited before (not many places you haven’t visited!)….just hoping the weather will stay relatively settled 🤞 You’ll have to wait and see where it is 🤔😂 Hope all is well!
I'm not sure where you're based but its true I very rarely ever meet anyone when I head out 🙂 Good aul bagpuss - a gift from a friend that I've had for years and still gives me a smile! Thanks for your message..I must watch this one again now to see how it looks!! 😇
@@MiriamKennedy I moved to Canada from London a long time ago. Back then it was really easy and cheap to get a flight from Heathrow to Dublin for a weekend and go on "wild" adventures!!! Ah, the good old days!
@@MiriamKennedy Its mostly cold and unpleasant. If you think midges are bad, you should try dear flies the size of watermelons that happily do amputations, black flies, and of course thirsty mosquitoes that flourish in the brief summer months.
Thanks very much Markus! Delighted I got to camp at Lough Slievesnaght and to see the lovely sunset on Slieve Snaght - fabulous views to witness and really peaceful. Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it!!
Oh Lord 🤦♀️ I’m the same - I haven’t done it yet either. So tough to plan for anything in Donegal…hoping to get up there in 2023 🤞 It’s hard to be bothered if you can see nothing!
Now that's a bugger about your drone Miriam. I thought you were going to take your replacement up high to see if the old one was still there. That's a thought. Fantastic mountains my friend and a time and night that turned out well in your new MSR. Why not stick with the MSR brand? They're good tents. Well, thanks for taking us along. All the best over there. Mark
Cheers Mark! I did that search before I recorded the little voice piece - scoped the top of the Tower and all it’s ledges with no sign of it 🙁 I assume it fell to ground and is either hidden in the bush or was picked up by someone with my phone number not fully legible. It doesn’t seem to be located on top anymore though. Had the MSR out in my first storm at the weekend with some others - it held up well! Not that I’ve any desire to go camping in storms but it was a great little trip to meet another UA-cam creator (Sole Trail) and some of his pals and to test how capable our gear is. Great little adventure and all our gear performed well. The Slieve Snaght sunset was a lovely sight Mark - another memory etched to the heart 😉 Thanks for watching and I hope you’re well!
Lovely video Miriam, very nice drone video, the poison glen is stunning indeed, nice solo wild camp👌. Watch out for Colin's next video of us in Killarney, we will be taking on the challenge of saying Lough Slievesnaght 5 times whilst under the influence of some alcohol beverages😂
Aw hilarious!! Thanks Ben - I look forward to seeing your next foody creations 🤗 Without any alcohol it’s a mouthful so this should be good 😂 Can’t wait!! Thanks for watching this little video - have a fab time on your Killarney trip, you’ll have great craic no doubt!! 👍
@@MiriamKennedy was a great wee video, Donegal sure is beautiful, look forward to your next one👌😀, still creating the menu for Killarney at the minute, bit rushed for this one, but looking forward to it😀
Thanks very much Garrett - really glad you liked it! It was such a thrill to finally get to the spot where I wanted to camp and then to catch the sunset to beat all sunsets 😊 A beautiful spot! Delighted you survived the Maumturks - they’re certainly spectacular! Hope they behaved themselves for you! I had hoped to get away this weekend and make a little video over in the West but the grey skies and winds seem to be battling the West coast again 🙄 I’ll do something without the camera instead…seems calmer on the east coast anyway! Thanks for your message!
You are getting very good with the verbal communication and so confident. I have ordered the Iris Peaks book and really looking forward to receiving it.Excellent video.
Cheers Brian! I think it’s mainly that I’ve had no experience with social media before this and it has taken me quite a while to get my head around interacting in a virtual world with people I’ll quite likely never meet. In two weeks I’ve gone from saying nothing to telling you about my camping gear! Two weeks ago I would have seen that as ‘selling out’ or playing to the crowd or performing and something in me really isn’t overly comfy with it yet there is another part of me that sees it as play and having some fun! Who knew putting videos on UA-cam would lead to inner exploration 🙃 I hope you enjoy the Irish Peaks book - I think it’s beautiful (and a great Christmas present for anyone who you know that is into hiking!!)
I wonder if the drone is still on that ledge, dam shame mind. I cannot believe how much this looks like the Lake District, so a real enjoyable watch for me, cannot also believe why you have not done more taking to the camera before, you are a natural! The music really suited the drama of the landscape another enjoyable bonus to he video. Lovely looking tent and an excellent overview of the tent as well. Sounds a real warm bag and sleep mat, heavy but worth it for the comfort and warmth. Nice memorial on the summit and 'what a view', gorgeous 360 and drone footage and I know exactly how you feel at 12.16! Food looked nourishing, especially the sausages - yum! There was more than enough decent footage to make it a great 14.06 minute 'full watch', cheers Alan
Thanks Alan!! I fully scoped out the ledges with the drone - no sign of it. I reckon it fell to ground with wind already and its either in that deep growth of briars or maybe it was picked up by someone and there is possibly a digit from my phone number too faded to read....I'll be back up again and I'll be checking the grass and bushes again!! I did give it a good look to try and spot it though. I'm enjoying my new tent it'll be good to play with a bit in the coming months hopefully! I've never been walking in Scotland, England or Wales so hopefully I'll make it over at some stage! Plenty to keep me busy here for quite a while anyway!! Thanks for watching the video Alan and getting in touch, really appreciate it!!
Absolutely brilliant Miriam. Really well caught and edited. That church is stunning. Would love to get up and explore that area some say. Who knows, I might even find a nice drone in the brush. I love the new tent set up. Hiking Gear is such an addiction. Your new tent blends in so well to the environment. Good on you Miriam. Really enjoyed that.
Thanks very much Martin 🙂 Yep, Dunlewey church and the view out to the mountains is quite spectacular! The poor drone - left on its own, hopefully its content enough in the brush! Happy with my tent so far anyway - no complaints, its not build for expedition camping or anything, but it'll meet my needs!! Thanks for your comment - really appreciate it and glad you liked the video!!
Back again watching this video to double check your camping spot😂😂😂as I have big plans😅. Ps, wanted to say as well ( in case you forgot) that you are doing amazing, we love& value you, and you got this 🎉.
Awww thank you 🤗 You lucky thing to be planning a camp up there!! Let me know when you do it 🤞 I was looking today at maps trying to figure out what I might do with a camera when I’m out and about again! Yes, I would say you have some decent enough footage there, Miriam :) :). Oh my God how much I love the rocky Donegal hills. I only managed the Aghlas when I was there for my first walking trip in 2019 as it was a very, very wet week so I was confined to mostly coastal walking, but obviously no complaints there as it's also great, and manageable even in poor weather. You got a magnificent sunset there again and the drone captured the grandeur. The music made it feel like we were looking at Rohan. I half expected the horsemen to appear in the valley :). Another stunning video, thank you. I have recently received the Ireland's Peaks book myself, so looking forward to whiling away winter evenings plotting future routes, if I'm spared!
Thanks Jim!! I truly never know what its like until I start putting it together and even then its hard to not succumb to the inner critic who says it's crap. The sunset was amazing - the whole trip was, I adore the feeling of wild camping with no one around and the simplicity of my bag on my back moving from A to B. Glad the music worked ok - I liked it when I heard it first but was a bit nervous to use it - bit too showy for my reserved side but another side of me liked it! I'm really enjoying the Irish Peaks book too - its such a beautifully assembled book. Happy plotting and thanks for your comment! I appreciate it 👍
New to your channel :) but what a find :) ... I found the decent tough from Slieve Snaght, Croaghfada, Bingorms... down to the poisoned Glen and back up Moylenanav omg.. Great drone footage.. I bet you loved like me watching the crowds over at Errigal when you were experiencing pure peace ✌️. Merky ☘️ "camping gear porn" lol 😆 happy Xmas
It really is tough terrain and progress is VERY slow!! 😳 I couldn’t see any crowds over yonder I must admit but like you also must have experienced - I met no one at all for this entire walk! Heaven 🥳 Yep - my first trip into camping gear porn, not for me!! There’s plenty of other people that upload videos that I’ll leave that to 😍 Thanks for checking out some of the videos!! And very nice to hear from you too 😎 Hope the post Christmas dinner is going well for you, I’m on the clean up here - nightmare!!
Absolutely devastated that you attributed the inspiration for your route & vlog to the book and not my goodself . ( the real inspiration who steered you in this direction )...but I forgive you because you did a great job. Don't stop now , get the book out again and away with you. Miriam I fear you have caught that awful addiction and are now a fully fledged gear junkie....welcome to the club.....smiles not miles.
Hah! Thanks Shay 😊 That one was on the cards for months, I had tried twice before and it didn’t work out - confined to the tent due to midges (couldn’t even cook!) and the second time it poured non stop rain which hadn’t been forecasted. Yes I became a gear addict it seems before I even started wild camping - I was looking at gear and not even knowing that I would eventually be following through and buying stuff 🤷♀️ The disease crept up on me and was silently reprogramming my brain towards increased credit card spending tendencies without me even knowing it - I was taken over and it hasn’t left. We’re great buddies though, wouldn’t have it any other way now 🙃 Thanks for watching and your encouragement, I really appreciate it!! 👍
Hi Miriam.. I really enjoyed this video. Your drone shots and story were a super introduction. Been on most of the summits in this area and it's rough ground for camping so fair play to you.. Great to show us around your tent and gear selection. What drone do you use by the way? Video professionally edited and tells the story very well.. ATB Tom
Hi Tom - thanks for your message! Yes it’s rough ground to camp and hike on, wonderful spot though! That was a little impromptu introduction to my tent and gear - not something I could ever have imagined I’d be speaking to camera about, speaking in videos is a really new thing for me, so forgive my crap overview of the gear! Nothing professional about my gear overview when compared to your detailed overviews 😂 I’m using a Mini 2 drone - I lost a Mavic Mini up on Dunlewey Church and upgraded to the Mini 2 when replacing it. Not great in strong wind but it can handle a decent amount in fairness so I’m happy with it. I like the weight when I’m packed for camping (although the controller is a lot heavier than the Mavic Mini). Thanks for your encouragement!! All positive comments are very welcome while negotiating the world of posting videos online 🙃
Cheers Colum!! Theres a danger my phone number might have rubbed off - I used permanent marker but should have used a printed label I reckon. Hopefully someone finds it for sure...stranger things have happened!! Thanks for watching the video 😊
Great video Miriam, brought back memories of for me camping in the Poison Glen a few years back. The wee MSR looks class, health to enjoy! Would love to know what you were cooking up there btw, it looked real tasty! Keep up the great work, love watching your videos! ATB Gary
Hi Gary - thanks for watching the video! Yeah it’s a lovely spot to explore and spend some time - loved it! For dinner I had stir fry veg and added some precooked rice. The sauce I used was something called Peanut Rayu that comes in a jar and I filled a little pot to stir in. The sauce is made of chilli oil, peanuts and sesame seeds - really nice! I go through phases of different dinners when camping and this one is my latest until I get bored with it! The morning was a single sausage cut in two - my frying pan is the lid off my pot so it’s very small! I had a roll then to put the sausage in. Thanks for the encouragement, really appreciate it!! 🤗

great vid! I did my first solo wildcamp in the Poison Glen this summer and I was destroyed by midges as I couldn't find a route up to the higher ground. How long did it take to get up to the camp spot? Definitely will return to conquer that valley at a better time of year now I've seen a few routes on UA-cam. I found the bog holes and thick terrain really tough in mid summer.
Thanks Tim!! Great you had your first solo wildcamp in these parts and shame about the bloody midges - I hope they didn't put you off! Send me your email address and I'll send you an image of the route that I used which was created based on the Irish Peaks route. It took me about 3.5-4 hours to get to the camp spot (filming time included). I do find that terrain really slow aswell - its 1km/hr progress mostly!! It's then about another half hour to get to the summit of Slieve Snaght. The terrain is really rough - I'm glad you agree!! It was a nice sense of achievement to finally complete my planned route. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Hey Miriam, loved this video. I almost missed it 😲 Your tent is class. I absolutely love the colour of it, you have a really nice set up. I love seeing what other people are using, I look up gear that I either can't afford, is not available here or that I simply do not want. I just love it 😁 Nice to see you talking more in this one, how are you finding it?
Cheers Jason - yeah the MSR tents are great. They are expensive, but I’m using my Hubba Hubba five years now and there’s no sign of it failing in anyway, as long as I don’t get storm damage on my Access 2 (no aspirations to be out in a storm anyway!), I’m sure I’ll get many more years out of it! Great quality, great weight but expensive!! I like looking at gear and hearing what others use too. I just never saw myself as one of those people who would be talking about my gear to faceless people on the internet!! As far as the talking - I spoke three times in this video, on the first clip I used my GoPro so I couldn’t see myself and the next 2 times I used my phone so at least I could see myself and that helped me be a bit more relaxed I realise! The talking went fine in this video - the editing was pretty cringy though and where the inner critic begins it’s attack! I’ll find my way - Im generally quite a reserved person, I’m not terribly shy but I just don’t really speak for the sake of it so it’ll be a bit of an inner exploration as to finding my way with it!! Im still in shock that I did it though - I don’t even tell my friends about it, I’m a bit embarrassed!! There’s something about ‘performing’ or deliberately drawing attention to myself by speaking on video and posting it that is very strange to me and some judgment that I have that it’s wrong to do even 🤷♀️ An unconscious belief that runs the show a lot…that’s good for me to see! The feedback and encouragement from the UA-cam community has been lovely with me talking a bit which is nice!! Cheers Jason for your support 🤗
@@MiriamKennedy it looks like extremely good quality and definitely worth the investment. You will get the use out of it too because you camp so often. I have a hero8 and most of my talking is done on that so I've no idea if I'm properly positioned on screen. Maybe that is part of the reason you were a bit more relaxed being able to see that all was ok.. I know exactly what you mean. In my everyday life I keep to myself, I don't go out of my way to talk to people and I'm very much an introvert. When I'm on camera I pretty much feel like I'm talking to myself which is why my weirdness comes out 😄 I was worried about what people would think so the people that I was most worried about finding out that I was on youtube are the ones that I told first otherwise it would have hung over me. Your videos show Ireland at it's finest and by talking in your videos it gives a much better insight into the whole experience. Fair play for doing it, I really am delighted when I see your videos pop up. All the best 👍
@@RamblingOn thanks a million Jason!! Yeah I like showing Ireland off - not me, showing a bit of me off is part of it too of course. Plenty of people think I’m nutty for my love of sleeping in a tent in the wild, thankfully many in my life realise what a great thing it is! 😉
@@MiriamKennedy it takes a strong person to stick to what they love regardless what people think even if they are family. Imagine the regrets we would have at the end of our lives if we lived how others told us we should. Fair play for sharing the video with your mate's. Hello Miriam. Looked a wonderful and remote spot to camp👍 Tent looks great! Have you ever had an issue with the "inner pitch first" design on MSRs? That's the only thing I'm unsure of about them. All the best👍👍
Hi Des - lovely to hear from you! The inner pitch first has never been an issue for me, I haven’t had to pitch in the lashing rain ever. I usually get a break in the weather if I’ve been unlucky with the weather predictions. I’ve been using a Hubba Hubba for over 5 years and never once had an issue with the inner pitch first. I know it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but it meets my needs for sure 😉 Thanks for watching!! 🤗
@@DesGreene I’ve been camping in luxury Des - the Hubba Hubba and my Access 2 are both 2 person tents 😉 I tried out a Lanshan 1 Pro and didn’t like it at all…the weight difference doesn’t justify the luxury I get for one night camping trips. If I start doing multi-day trips that little bit of weight saving would be worth it. I’ll get a one person tent I like eventually! 🤞Especially for the longer nights ahead - the space in the Access 2 really appeals. I’ve been admiring your campervan, I’m saving for one. Haven’t looked at any yet, I just want something small and neat 😉
@@MiriamKennedy We have a very small space to park it, so went for the SWB T5. You need to be OK operating in a small space, but we love it 😁 Maria won't do small tents, so I'm still solo on my wild camps 😁
Thanks for letting me know what type you have Des - I haven’t started to seriously look yet but I seem to be getting closer to it! It’s definitely something I’d like to do in time for sure. I’ll keep dreaming and saving until then anyway 🤗
Meriam, nice video. Been there a couple of times but always blighted with bad weather! In fact last summer was the only time I managed to breach my trusty ol Meindl boots which had been reliable for years. That was one seriously wet day and I ended up having to turn round as I forgot my spare socks :-)) Enjoying the videos. You have some great gear there. What size of rucksack did you have to use on this trip?
Thanks Pat! This was my third attempt at doing this walk - the weather beat me up the other two times so I can empathise with your experience! I was so thrilled to finally do it as it was like an itch that had to be scratched to try camp at Lough Slievesnaght 😊 Your poor Meindl boots - no doubt you’ve replaced them now! I’ve just changed my boots from Scarpa to Lowa. The Scarpa boots had lasted for years but they were finally giving up on me too! For this trip I used a 46L bag - an Osprey Kyte. I always use this bag on my camping trips and then I’ve a 30L Osprey bag for day trips. If I could attach the tent to the 30L bag I’d possibly get away with it in the Summer but I can’t. This 46L has served me well for the last 5 years or so! Thanks for your message! 🤗
@@MiriamKennedy I’ve always got away with my Osrey Talon 33 but feel like I need to upgrade to bigger capacity for the winter months. Whilst I’ve always been a “hiker” I’ve only recently got into the camping side of things this year. Ps I’m 110% certain I saw an aerial photo of your drone on the church sometime ago. Someone posted this on one of the many hiking groups I’m on but I can’t remember which one! If I come across it I’ll let you know :-)
Enjoyable watch she says . Miriam this is beyond doubt your best one yet .It ticked every box for a most excellent little adventure. You have a very canny ear for selecting the best music to suit the mood. The drone footage was incredible .you really have mastered those follow orbit shots ,they completely enhance the video to the next level. It must have been agony getting the drone feed when you landed on the church ledge and not being able to get it back,I would have been gutted for sure. I nearly choked when you said you’ve joined the tent porn review brigade pmsl. For sure that new tent is awesome indeed, I love the colour of the fly ,looks like there’s loads of room for gear etc, Brilliant video Miriam, if I could like it twice I would. ATVB Colin Ps I must try and pronounce lough slieve Snaght after a few Kuksas of wine . And yes midges are other worldly they’re from the depths of Hades
Ah thanks Colin!! The worst bit was that message on my screen 'too restricted to take off'....I eventually got the message and stopped trying! I have to admit losing the second drone was easier than the first - I got a bit more hardened it seems! 😉The first drone was lost after I only had it about 6 weeks and there is a very good chance that it wasn't my fault. The Mavic Mini is known to have a controller problem and I may have succumbed to one of those problems. I was flying with no obstacle near the drone and it lost connection and the RTH wouldn't work. Later on when I viewed its flight path it made no sense to me at all. The first loss just frightened me to think I've no idea what I did to cause the problem so whats the point in getting another one. After a few weeks I realised I had been having so much fun so I took the plunge again. I got over a year out of the second one which wasn't too bad I think. The second lost drone was definitely my fault though. On this trip I felt like my nerve was gone with the drone - thankfully there was no wind at all but after nearly losing it 2 weeks ago in Wicklow the adrenalin was definitely pumping every time!! Yeah - even 2 weeks ago I could never have imagined I'd be posting a video and telling viewers about my camping gear....its done now - never again 😀
@@MiriamKennedy strange you didn’t get a RTH with a lost signal , but agree the mavic mini although great for packing into the rucksack is quite limited , especially with the WiFi linked control system , jittery footage on screen etc , very poor in high winds , think I’ll upgrade mine to the mini 2 , 4K and occusync , better range better in winds and rock solid signal , that was my downfall in Skye , the winds at altitude limited my footage . As a footnote most who follow our genre demand campsite review porn , I’m not a fan of doing it either but then again I do enjoy gear reviews . I’ve had stuff sent to me recently to review so I need to get the finger out for them 😀😁
@Frozen Mist Wildcamping Ireland 😂on losing the second drone I upgraded to the Mini 2....every cloud and all that!! I've become a camping gear porn star - I've made it!!! I look forward to watching your very serious gear reviews 🎅 Although you say your footage in Skye was limited - all that you had was superb!!
@@MiriamKennedy Yup youve made it lol..Mini 2 awesome indeed. My very serious gear reviews mmmm feckin CURLING TONGS HELLO FFS, though i have been sent something that is rather cool and will be using going forward.
Cheers Niall!! Thanks for watching the adventure - yep it really is a stunning place. Once you are up high you see mountains after mountains after mountains…amazing to see and be with. I’m laughing at your use of the word ‘epic’ - in choosing the music I chose it from a source that had categorised various moods of music, I chose the track from a category called ‘epic’…the music definitely helps 🤗
Cheers Tom!! Great there is another Bagpuss fan out there 😂 You got me watching the video again just now - a nice memory of a lovely little trip 👍 I had wanted to camp there for a while so it was nice to finally get the chance to do it!!
I did - I fully scoped the top of the tower and all the ledges but no sign of it. I had a clear view of everything and I'm pretty positive its not up there anymore. I don't think there are any concealed places where it could be so I assume it has fallen to ground and was either picked up by someone with my phone number not being legible or else its in that thick growth 😥It might turn up again yet!!
Thanks for all the great films, images and information.
You’re so welcome Yvonne! Thanks so much for your lovely message 🤗 I clicked into this one again to remind me of this lovely trip - I was so glad to finally make it to camp at the lake, nice memories!! Take care! 😊
Definitely enjoyable. Thanks, Miriam.🙂👍🏕️
Cheers Brian! Great to have finally captured this beautiful area for a video - very glad you enjoyed it 🤗
Hi Miriam, Wow, what a breathtaking cinematic footage!
Stunning Mirium! Catching up with your older videos, they really are so good x
Cheers!! Delighted that you like them - wahooo!! That’s lovely to hear 🤗
@@MiriamKennedy 😀
We were almost into the lough before we saw it, that's how horrible the weather was.

Grazie mille! Davvero bello accamparsi in un posto in cui desideravo accamparmi da così tanto tempo. Che posto incantevole!! 😊
Thanks for taking us along on your journey, such a nice video. Amazed that you do this all alone even in colder weather outside summertime.
Brilliant video. You picked a really good spot. Well done
Cheers James - it’s a fab spot alright, loved it! Thanks for watching 😊
Great video, beautiful place!
Thanks Jordan - it is a beautiful place alright! I’ve a definite soft spot for pitching a tent at mountain lakes. Views from the summit were great. Thanks for watching 🤗
Very enjoyable watch Miriam 👍 the church where you lost your drone was just as you explained, it's what I pictured in my head , beautiful spot 🙌💚🍀
Great video and I love the soundtrack. I have added Slieve Snaught to my bucket list.
I do like being in a tent 😊 Nice to hear from you!
great video, and enjoying watching your other vids, i have no doubt you have inspired many others - keep tramping

😂😂 the good old days!! No doubt Canada is quite the place to find yourself living 🤗
@@MiriamKennedy Its mostly cold and unpleasant. If you think midges are bad, you should try dear flies the size of watermelons that happily do amputations, black flies, and of course thirsty mosquitoes that flourish in the brief summer months.
Ahhhhhh…the Canada tourist board will have you black listed 😲 Not very appealing 🫣
Always great to see you videos, well done. 👍

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to reply to my comment ,very much appreciated.Looking forward to your next adventure.Take care

@mirela2360 that all sounds very exciting!! Great you got out and had a night out with the wilds…very jealous 😊
@MiriamKennedy same here lol but looking forward to Beara on new years :) and no doubt hunger at hungry hill :) M ☘️

A very serious moment Colin…disbelief that I’m telling UA-cam about my first venture with attaching guy lines 🤷♀️
Fab Miriam , great video . Sorry about the drone . Hopefully someone will eventually find it ,
Cheers
@@MiriamKennedy I am trying to get more adventurous when it comes to my outdoor meals, in fact my next video has a bit in it with me trying to cook something up! I just googled the Peanut Rayu, I'm definitely going to order some of that up!
@@IrelandOutdoors I’ve been bitten by the Peanut Rayu bug:

I have it with avocado on toast or poached egg on toast (at home of course!). A brilliant addition to a stir fry too, you only need a spoonful or two, nice kick from it 😉 I look forward to seeing your next cooking extravaganza 👍 Cheers Gary!
Really enjoyed this 👌 Dinner looked gorgeous, what was it?
Cheers David! Dinner under poor light, I’d never tried to do that before to capture food with my head torch on 🤗 It was some stir fry veg that I brought in a bag and cooked for a few mins, then I added some precooked rice to the mixture and topped off with this sauce called peanut rayu:
evergreen.ie/products/white-mausu-peanut-rayu?variant=40085014773951¤cy=EUR&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvIDijp_g8wIVkZntCh1JcABCEAUYASABEgJimfD_BwE
A lovely little mix for a hearty feed and doesn’t weigh much 😉 All washed down with a Wispa, digestive biscuits and tea!! Heavenly 😂
@@MiriamKennedy Sounds smashing 👌 I used to carry a wee wok with me as there is nothing like stir frying over a campfire but stopped due to the weight of the ingredients, never occurred to me to just take a stir fry mix - THANK YOU, I've been stuck in a 'steak with mac n cheese' rut for a couple of years now 🤣
Next time I'm out its a stir fry for Dave 👍
PS Your headtorch did well, most led headlamps flicker when filming, does my nut in when I talk to cam and forget its on 🤓
@@journeytoaphotograph hah! Yeah I had been in a stuffed tortellini and some pesto cycle for a few months, another idea for you 😉 - it’s lovely but nice to change it up until I get bored with this menu!!
Camping isn't everyone's cup of tea but they will be no doubt be amazed at the places you have been and the experiences you have had.
@@MiriamKennedy Well if it's not a problem in Ireland 😁 Loved the green colour too. Is yours the 1 person or 2?
That was one seriously wet day and I ended up having to turn round as I forgot my spare socks :-))
Enjoying the videos.
If I come across it I’ll let you know :-)
@@MiriamKennedy ps thanks for the info, Very much appreciated.
@@patienceman you’re welcome Pat - oh wow, that’s mad that you might have spotted a photo of the drone!! Fingers crossed it makes it back home again 🤞
Very good. Interesting video. Subscribe.
Thanks very much Andrey - yes its a really beautiful spot and the sunset was a pleasure to see. Glad y0ou enjoyed it!
@@frozenmist-w4k something cool that cannot be mentioned 🤷♀️

Cheers Niall!! Thanks for watching the adventure - yep it really is a stunning place. Once you are up high you see mountains after mountains after mountains…amazing to see and be with. I’m laughing at your use of the word ‘epic’ - in choosing the music I chose it from a source that had categorised various moods of music, I chose the track from a category called ‘epic’…the music definitely helps 🤗
Bagpuss... yes I'm a big fan 😀.. Great video too.. but bagpuss stole the show... 😀
Ha!! A guest appearance from Bagpuss 😉 I must recruit him again for a cameo appearance!! Great, you enjoyed the video, thanks for letting me know 😊
@@MiriamKennedygot carried away there at the start when i saw BP... that was great.. you make great vids of stuff I like 👍
Cheers Tom!! Great there is another Bagpuss fan out there 😂 You got me watching the video again just now - a nice memory of a lovely little trip 👍 I had wanted to camp there for a while so it was nice to finally get the chance to do it!!
Use the other drone to check and see if the others drone was still there
I did - I fully scoped the top of the tower and all the ledges but no sign of it. I had a clear view of everything and I'm pretty positive its not up there anymore. I don't think there are any concealed places where it could be so I assume it has fallen to ground and was either picked up by someone with my phone number not being legible or else its in that thick growth 😥It might turn up again yet!!
