Hi Gerry - Great camp at Slieve Snaght! I've seen quite a few frogs this summer, so it was fun to see that you found one too! Pretty pink heather and tumbling water! Loved seeing the views from the summit and the clouds rushing over and into the next valley. Seems like it's windy more often than not, but I guess it's good to keep the bugs away... probably a great trade off :) Thanks for sharing your trip, very peaceful to follow along :) Atb ~ Jennifer

Cheers Jennifer👍 Ireland is definitely a windy country😊 It has been pretty settled over the summer and we will see what Autumn brings😊 I would take the wind over the bugs any day👍 Always cool to spot a 🐸 when out walking, though it doesn't happen that often. It was a a lovely and peaceful trip😊

Hi Gerry. We 'discovered' the fabulous Inishowen peninsula back in 2018 when we had a wee mid-week break at the Redcastle hotel. What a fascinating hidden treasure trove of stories, people and interesting places. We travelled right around the coastline and were amazed at what we stumbled across. Your video gives us another kind of view of the place that we really didn't see.

Tom, I love Inishowen too👍 I have stayed there a few times, renting houses for the week, something Covid has interrupted and which I would like to get back to next year. There is tons to see and do with beaches and mountains galore. The trip over on the ferry from Magilligan to Greencastle is cool (if still going) and saves loads of time and miles👍

That’s a great wee guide book from Adrian. I’ve been working my way through it and done that one last Tuesday. Unfortunately Snaght was completely enshrouded in mist so I got no views at all. The upright rocks on the summit in the mist made it a haunting experience! Thankfully it cleared up by the time I got to Main.
Hard to beat Donegal, just love it. Thanks for sharing your experiences again Gerry.

Pat, I have quite a few of those Collins Press Guidebooks and definitely don't look at them often enough for some inspiration👍 It is a great book and doesn't leave much out for walking in Donegal and Sligo👍 I sometimes struggle with the motivation in thinking about a trip and this definitely helped. Did you meet anyone else on your trip?

@@gerrymcveigh Gerry I’ve done approximately half the walks in Adrian’s book and could count on one and a half hands the amount of people I have met while out meandering :-). On this occasion however I did run into one of the landowners at the start of the walk. He was out tending his sheep. Friendly sheep farmer with absolutely no issues with walkers.
Think I have one more walk up that way ( Ragtin More ) then I am more or less done with Inishowen. I see you’ve done that one before too. Can you remember if there was any decent camping spots? I don’t plan to do the Urris hills as I done them at the start of summer.

Fair play to you Gerry for getting a sleep up there. Last time I was up there was New Year's Day 2019. Mist came in all around and the wind was howling. I was sat in that wee cairn trying to heat my stove and dry my outer shell, with no success. Had to use my compass to get off the mountain as the mist left me disorientated. But it's a great hike despite the slog through the bog. Speaking of alcohol litter. I found a six pack of Guinness cans lying on a pile of peat when I was walking down. Couldn't get more Irish litter than that. 🤣

Some speedy running there Gerry! 😎 No one around and having the place to yourself - I still find it amazing and truly satisfying that so many places on the mountains or next to the coast in Ireland can offer so much solitude. Loved those fast rolling clouds you captured 👍 The bivy looked a great choice for that rocky summit with a flat green space amongst them! Nice to see another area explored, I haven’t climbed Slieve Snacht and it’s one for the near future I hope. And a new season begins….🤗

Miriam, I am constantly amazed like yourself that there are no other people in these stunning places when I go there, even on a weekend. Maybe we just have so many stunning places😊 It had been many years since I was last up in these hills and it was cool to return. It is a mountain that is usually prominent when looking northwards from the Sperrin Mountains. Bivy is the way to go if the weather allows😊

@@livinginmyownlittleworldad1905 🤣 your confusion is very understandable!! I'll solve the mystery for you - there are actually two mountains called Slieve Snacht in Donegal and I've only climbed one of them. The one I climbed is in the Derryveagh Mountains and the other one that Gerry captured here is in the Inishowen Peninsula - a bit further north.
