I understand you doing that. This song is just that BIG. The lyrics and just the EXO concept make it "too much" but in a good way. This song was so ahead of its time, so prophetic in a way. So i know why it blew your mind.

The first time i heard this song about 5 years ago, I had the same reaction. It was the most EPIC song i've ever heard....I'm 58 yrs old now....To me this sounds as EPIC and some Queen songs.

That's great you watched the whole beginning of EXO story on your own! Please, react to EXO more. Their live stages (especially from Japan concerts), b-side tracks (including winter albums), and sub-units are amazing. Not speaking of some dance practices which get over 100 million views since there's no MV, but the song is a bop.

EXO M ....they did same album with chinese mandarin and mainly promoted in china ...four chinese members and two korean members
Kris,luhan,tao ( thses three chinese members left the group in 2014-2015) Chen,xiumin ,Lay....
After three of them left the group since then EXO is NINE....they stills make chinese versions in their songs ..back then they did whole albums in chinese mandarin ,but now they only makes title tracks in mandarin ....

Maybe you already know, but this is 'MAMA' by EXO-K. EXO-M debuted on the same day - 8.04.2012, in China, with 'MAMA' Chinese version. Very unique and ambitious, don't you think?
Oh, man, if there is a song I want to hear for 1st time again this would be 'MAMA', cause back then I didn't give the respect and love what this masterpiece deserves.
I’m so happy you watched MAMA. I love it and I think it was so different. Many people thought this debut was a flop and those people are idiots because I think MAMA was ahead of it’s time.

The words on Kai's face: EXO from exoplanet (where they originate from) , 2012 (the year of their debut, and MAMA is the official debut song despite 2 pre-debut songs), and 6 names of the members of EXO-K, the Korean subunit. Before 3 Chinese members left EXO was divided into two subunits EXO-K and EXO-M (they sang the same songs in Mandarin), so you can find two versions of early MVs, but Mandarin versions usually get blocked on YT. In MAMA you see members of the two subunits trying to find each other in different dimensions.
"If you are perfect - you care fake, you're supposed to be yourself, but not this yourself, I don't like it...." Perfect description of what's going on. I always look forward to your interpretation of my favorite MVs and you always find the most "hitting" words and perspective. I wish you had the time and motivation to dive deeper into EXO storyline as each MV is a part of a huge puzzle, that we, EXO-L, have to interpret. Maybe one day you'll watch at least the first part of EXO Concept Guide by Cesar Oh to try help us see another side and what hasn't been uttered by other interpreters.

This MV is the introduction to EXO's lore. Since you already watched the intro (separately) you're probably now aware that the 2 dimensions are the 2 different worlds where EXO-K AND EXO-M existed. They pretty much live in parallel universes/dimensions. You'll see in the video that the two groups mirror each other and each member has a counterpart in the other dimension. The butterfly represent Tao's power which is time control (probably from butterfly effect) and his counterpart in EXO-K is Sehun whose power is wind. That's why there's that scene with Sehun with the wind cyclone behind him and the butterfly on his hand. They also show the other EXO-K members with their EXO-M counterpart. Kai who teleports everywhere, his counterpart is Luhan, who has the Telekinesis power. D.O' force/gravity power with Chen's lightning power. Chanyeol's fire power (also represented by the Phoenix) with Kris, flight power (represented by a dragon). Baekhyun's light power with Lay's healing power. And finally, Suho's water power with his counterpart, Xiumin with the frost/ice power. In their lore, their worlds were destroyed by the red force and they were sent to Earth to protect humanity from the red force (as shown in their predebut MV "History"), but they had to find each other first which is kind of shown in their other predebut MV What's is Love.

I am really proud of the song in 2012, but EXO is the EXO of The Vocals. I have not seen a new group that had an amazing start like EXO. There is a famous phrase that says, "If everyone was looking for talent and not the trend, they would have become EXO fans."
Even I thought i become late into kpop 2016 but what is love and mama was my first kpop song I listen and they are still my ult songs, the meaning of the song is so powerful , the reason i stan them they never disappointed us as a groep as a solo artist what a debut EXO 👏👏👏🫡

man that bring back memory when when I went to the SM agency at the COEX shopping center and in their movie theater they broadcast the concerts of Shinee, EXO, SNSD, (f)x, and red velvet. I remember seeing an EXO concert where they sang MAMA. or when I saw the hologram concert "school oz" incredible technical prowess. with max changbin, Luna, Seulgi, Key, Suho, Xiumin and many other stars from SM.

I was not interested in Kpop even I'm a Korean but I like this song alot as this song is very impressive, full of messages. I was searching for the analysis about MAMA because my favorite group (not Kpop, a crossover quartet Forestella) covered this song and won their King of Kings in Immortal Songs. I thought their choice to cover a song had something to do with messages or themes towards their new song named Utopia.

Oh! 😵 This is such a nice surprise. I have not seen this MV in so long. It does suck you couldn't see the original intro but that's OK bc I'm glad you found one with better lyrics. I'm not so well versed in kpop history to know what other groups in the past had lore but I'd like to think the Exo universe brought a whole new dimension to storytelling that set a new standard. I kept waiting for that screaming break to see your reaction and it was worth it. I'm glad it surprised you in a good way and I always look forward to how well you disect the lyrics.
These guys are my original Ult group. This was the first group in kpop that made me want to get to know the personalities of the group (which I know is part of how kpop works). I'd never had any interest in all the off stage stuff before and I used to think it was actually weird but it was almost too easy for me to fall for these guys. You know with how awful I've felt with how the Loona situation (my other ult) has been working out lately, knowing Exo is coming back this year is the thing I'm holding onto the most and I'll definitely look forward to your reaction when it comes out.
Now, when you get around to 'Lotto' I'll be most excited...
I'm glad you checked this out. When I first saw the video, I was totally mindblown cause I'd never seen a music video that looks like a freaking movie. The Korean version has the glimpse of the Korean members' counter parts. To get to the whole story you must watch EXO-M version. It’s kinda crazy how the lyrics to mama predicted the future. Because it’s already known that this generation is called “the loneliest” because of all media and the internet we have access to. Everybody stuck in a bubble online instead of creating meaningful relations in real life. It’s so mind blowing how it’s predicted in a song that came out in 2012.

There really is something in the disassociation of people in general in favour of digital fantasy life that isn’t who or what we really are any more.
The EXO are setting up their ‘powers’ in this and it was two units the split between an aim at China market and other half Korean, they soon kept them together and I’m sure lots of folks will tell you the China line within the group all ended up leaving bar Lay. But that’s detail you can pick up on the journey.
This introduces you to powers - suho controls water💧, xumin ice or frost❄️, DO is power or force👊🏻, chanyeol is fire 🔥,baekhyun is light 🌟, Chen is lightning ⚡️, sehun is wind 🌪, lay is healing ❤️🩹 and Kai can teleport 🪄. The ex members could stop time, telekinesis and fly. The go into more detail in other mvs about who exo are and why they are here and who they are fighting against.
You really did manage all on your own to pick up on the fact that they are spread out looking for each other and both trying to find will and unity to fight again.

Literally ahead of their time with internet trolls, antis, haters etc speaking words of wisdom. To think they are talking about similar in 2012 that we saw just recently with Halazia - the world isn’t learning.
Sehun with the butterfly effect - a butterfly flaps it’s wings in say Japan a tornado hits USA. Small actions can have big repercussions. He is wind so it matches him in this moment.
Can you imagine if the antis were suddenly exposed when they posted hate? Just instantly teleported to like Times Square with multiple cameras on them and the screens showing what they just did. There are no consequences for humans online, and slowly we stop behaving like decent humans.
Kai has the tattoo for the exo-k the Korean half of exo which is suho, Kai, DO, baekhyun, sehun and chanyeol. the others making up exo-m which was Luhan, kris, Tao, xumin, Chen and lay. Once China line departed and over time they just started to amalgamate lol so now the full line is 9 instead of 12. Oh they also have symbols each too but again you will get those along the way.
You will have loads of requests but just happy to see you pick what appeals to you most. My favs to see anyone react to are the stage mix for ‘white noise+thunder+playboy+artificial love’ it has subs and it’s just reaction goldmine lol some of my fav EXO songs are Wait, Thunder, lightsaber, sing for you, miracles in December, call me baby, tempo, for life, universe, love shot and monster was my hook and start of my deep dive lol

Exo SC - is chanyeol and sehun and my absolute fav (which I can already hear the chorus in my head) is ‘we young’ makes me happy just thinking about it lol
Exo-CBX is Chen, baekhyun and xumin and my fav of theirs is blooming day
Chen - Beautiful Goodbye is my fav of his solo title tracks but all his vocals are god tier lol
Suho - his solo albums are so vibe inducing but the b sides on grey suit album are like acoustic touch of jazz and hint of blues it’s just an audio experience
Lay - Lit. That MV is a movie, it’s just jaw dropping and he set up his own company so has his hands on every single element from the song composing and producing to the story boarding and design and SFX
Baekhyun - I would be lying if every single track he sings isn’t on my play lists lol but tracks like Un Villiage his solo debut, take you home, all I got, get you alone, bambi, candy, drown, hurt all get played regularly but his whole albums are favs. He’s also in SuperM and leader in that group who like EXO are planning a comeback once he and Taemin are free of enlistment before others have to go.
DO - that’s Okay was the song he gave us before his enlistment and it remains just the sweetest sentimental not that his new stuff isn’t as good but this just struck a chord.
Kai - his solo mmmh is dangerous 😂brilliant, but dangerous lol and peaches is just sooooooo visually stunning as well as sweet he really proved he’s more talented than he’s given credit for. He’s also in SuperM and he and sehun have to enlist this year so window of opportunity is small for everything they are planning. The debut album has a film that teases all the songs on his debut that is DEF good to watch as well.
The guys have been saying how they will be giving us a full album, a full line up comeback with even Lay rumoured participation 🎉so 9 members and exo-LS are going crazy as it will be 2025 before they will all be free again 😢

And exactly as you said, Obsession showed evil trying to take over good with the dopplegangers...and yet as young stars, Exo shows off the stellar vocals. 💙🌺

Since 2012 until now, and even with the emergence of new bands, none of them compete with EXO with Vocals, Hainauts, and Visuals. They are the only band in K-Pop that has all of these things! It is the truth that no one has the right to deny

I've loved this song from the first time I heard it but never took the time to really listen to the lyrics in English. This song was ahead of its time. You are absolutely correct, the lyrics are so appropriate and so meaningful for today. Kai's screaming part really hit...dying, killing, the things you'd expect in a war is happening in everyday life... this isn't a war. Hammer hit divide and fight...people spend so much time on video games that glorify this behavior and desensitizes us...this isn't a game either...we've all got to wake up! God help us.
The one time the intro is actually in English you completely skip it 😂😂 that actually had me laughing. It's interesting & a helpful guide to their beginnings coming from EXO planet.
Even back in their debut, their humble beginnings EXO didn't come to play 😂 they went HARD HARD that hadn't been done before not like this & that's what I love about them its what drew me towards them. This reaction took me back to that first time watching them & getting hooked. I rarely listened to kpop back in the day (even now honestly) but throw some rock & dark concepts in bitch I'm there, that's what they did but the visuals or rather the emotions that match the storytelling even without knowing the language, you still feel it.

SM boy groups back then all had at least one song of this type, traditionally as either their debut track or the follow up track... They are the kinds of songs you either love or cringe at for being too "emo" (my personal favorites being Tri-Angle by DBSK and Don't Don by Super Junior ( Also, many people forgot, but SM had a rock band in the mid 2000s who did hard rock occasionally: TRAX, who I believe are still a thing, but after members left, they mellowed and rebranded? Personal favorite song of theirs is Paradox)) I think only Shinee escaped this fate, I guess because their whole concept at debut was "the nation's little brothers" vibe and rock doesn't work for that. Can't speak to ye Olde NCT as I was retired from kpop when they debuted

FINALLY OMG! I was so waiting for you to watch this! It's unfortunate about the intro and i hope you recorded it separately 😅 to some Exo-Ls theories, Exo MVs go in inverse chronological order. This would actually make sense to what has happened and at the point they are in MAMA, where hope seem to be completely lost. Another thing that helps this theory is that if MAMA is really collocated at the end of their story it makes sense that it has all the members together. Since some members have left throughout the years, that would have damaged they're storyline, but if it's right at the end, they are all there to fulfill the prophecy together.
Anyway, this is the most epic debut ever, you'll understand with the intro better. The lyrics, the music, the video itself! Also, the Chinese version of the MV shows the other members and give you another perspective of what's going on. Thank you for this reaction to our vocal Kings!
