When watching MAMA you need to watch both Korean and Mandarin Versions since Korean Version showcases the Exo K members superpowers and Mandarin Version showcases the Exo M members superpowers. If you can't react to Exo M version online, you can always watch it off line.
I know this is kpop and so you did the Korean version. However, I highly suggest that you watch the chinese version as well even if you don't film it. This is their debut and at debut time, there were 12 members. The six EXO K members are highlighted in this vid with glimpses of the other six of EXO M. This version is in Korean and you will be made aware of their group concept/storyline along with the six members super powers. If you don't watch the other vid, you won't see the other six or their super powers as well. it is very important to their storyline and concept. The red force the man at the beginning speaks of is the enemy they face on their EXO Planet and here on our Earth. So make sure, please, to watch the other version. In addition, if you can, watch the two versions at the same time - the videos are synchronized such that the story is even more clear if you watch them side-by-side. You may not be able to react to it that way but even just on your own time, it's worth a watch! 2012 the first group that open the door of the third generation of kpop. At that time, we only know like super junior , Big Bang or Tvxq. kpop really don’t have that hard choreography or sick mv like nowadays. Actually, when they debuted that Korean people called them a flop and said they are the worst group created by sm. Look at how big they’ve become these days. Exo probably have some influences to the whole industry so more and more company start to creat more groups like them to compete with them.

Basically to prevent their enemy the RED FORCE from taking the heart of TREE OF LIFE, Exo as a whole (12 members) split into 2 groups of 6 or half. 6 members are in EXO-K and the other 6 were in EXO-M and the 2 alternate worlds is where each group stayed because together the RED FORCE can easily trap all of them and take the heart. In order to really see the full story you actually have to also watch the EXO-M version of "Mama." The whole point of both the EXO-K and EXO-M versions of their songs and each MV is to introduce you to EXO's concept and storyline. If you only watch EXO-K, you only see half the story. "Mama" is like the first episode of EXO's drama -- it sets up everything to come in the rest of the series. And if you miss any part of the first episode you will forever be lost when it comes to the rest of EXO's story. So, in other words, you HAVE to watch the EXO-M version of "Mama." If you watch both versions of their "Mama" MV, you might be able to understand a little more about EXO's mission and everything they have been sent to Earth to do. Because in the EXO-K version the whole story focuses on the K members, but in the M version it will show you the M members and explain their powers and each of their roles in the story. The M version will feature the EXO-M members and they will be the ones singing the main parts of the song. You only see small clips of the M members in the Korean version. I know this is kpop and so you did the Korean version. However, I highly suggest that you watch the chinese version as well even if you don't film it. This is their debut and at debut time, there were 12 members. The six EXO K members are highlighted in this vid with glimpses of the other six of EXO M. This version is in Korean and you will be made aware of their group concept/storyline along with the six members super powers. If you don't watch the other vid, you won't see the other six or their super powers as well. it is very important to their storyline and concept. The red force the man at the beginning speaks of is the enemy they face on their EXO Planet and here on our Earth. So make sure, please, to watch the other version. Also, please be advised, the eclipse is a seriously important part of their concept. You see it in a lot of their MV's.
To answer your question, the MV's are not in storyline order as they are released. That is half the reason EXO-L's have theory videos....to try and figure out the storyline in its proper order. We are confident about at little more than half we think. Or at least that's my understanding of it. Also, not just EXO has EXO storyline. There is storyline in EXO-CBX, EXO-SC, their teasers and VCR's, Solo MV's and even a bit in SuperM which both Baekhyun and Kai are a part of. You will need to do a much deeper dive than you realize. Hope you are up for the challenge and the ultimate ride.

I came here to say exactly this, glad to see other people have the same thought! In addition, if you can, watch the two versions at the same time - the videos are synchronized such that the story is even more clear if you watch them side-by-side. You may not be able to react to it that way but even just on your own time, it's worth a watch! I think there's an upload out there that has both videos with the audio split between R and L ear, that's really interesting to watch.

2012 the first group that open the door of the third generation of kpop. At that time, we only know like super junior , Big Bang or Tvxq.
kpop really don’t have that hard choreography or sick mv like nowadays. Actually, when they debuted that Korean people called them a flop and said they are the worst group created by sm. Look at how big they’ve become these days.
Exo probably have some influences to the whole industry so more and more company start to creat more groups like them to compete with them.
This is why EXO is one of the TOP. Their debut is the IT on all kpop videos and vocals. They have so many rappers, vocalists, charms combined in 1 group.
You have to react on the Chinese version too because there are only 6 members(sehun, suho, baekhyun, kai, chenyeol and d.o) in k version and the other 6 (chen, xiumin, lay, tao, kris, luhan) are in the another version. Chen is the main vocalist of group (there are 3 main vocalist chen d.o. and baekhyun).
It’s actually amazing because during the time this mv was released no Kpop group had really an intricate concept like theirs, and when they first came out they got the title “flop” group from their company because the company didn’t think they would succeed like the rest of the groups in the company. Many people made fun of their concept saying it was stupid and on each variety show they had to show off their “powers” just to promote their songs. Their first live performance they got paid in rice, which they took very happily and now they are wearing Gucci and Dior everywhere they go. Many groups now have amazing concepts since they followed after their senior artist. It just shows how they came from a humble beginning and now they are famous and legendary. You might want to watch Exo m on your own time because it’s also important to the story line since it has the Chinese members in there.

Basically to prevent their enemy the RED FORCE from taking the heart of TREE OF LIFE, Exo as a whole (12 members) split into 2 groups of 6 or half. 6 members are in EXO-K and the other 6 were in EXO-M and the 2 alternate worlds is where each group stayed because together the RED FORCE can easily trap all of them and take the heart. But in the mv we can see that Kai is the only member who can visit every single member even the Exo-M who are in another world through using his teleporting power.

In order to really see the full story you actually have to also watch the EXO-M version of "Mama." The whole point of both the EXO-K and EXO-M versions of their songs and each MV is to introduce you to EXO's concept and storyline. If you only watch EXO-K, you only see half the story. "Mama" is like the first episode of EXO's drama -- it sets up everything to come in the rest of the series. And if you miss any part of the first episode you will forever be lost when it comes to the rest of EXO's story.
So, in other words, you HAVE to watch the EXO-M version of "Mama." If you watch both versions of their "Mama" MV, you might be able to understand a little more about EXO's mission and everything they have been sent to Earth to do. Because in the EXO-K version the whole story focuses on the K members, but in the M version it will show you the M members and explain their powers and each of their roles in the story.
The M version will feature the EXO-M members and they will be the ones singing the main parts of the song. You only see small clips of the M members in the Korean version. But in the Chinese version the story continues, and the EXO-M members are the ones that are highlighted. You have to see both MVs to understand the full story.
It's important that you pay attention to the introduction story in "Mama" because it is literally setting up EXO's storyline. The narrator is telling you EXO's whole origin story, about how EXO have been split up into two groups EXO-K and EXO-M and they are part of the same group and yet separate -- part of two worlds that come together as one, etc. And he is telling you about how the Tree of Life has been split in half to protect it from falling into the Red Forces' control -- each half of the tree representing one half of EXO (EXO-K and EXO-M) -- and EXO's mission is to find the two halves of the tree and reunite them to restore peace in the world.
You should also look up the English translation of the lyrics for "Mama." The majority of their chant is in English: "Shoot anonymous, anonymous; Heartless, mindless; No one who care about me ... Careless, careless (Mama: Mama in Korean means Your Majesty); Shoot anonymous, anonymous (Mama); Heartless, mindless (Mama); No one who care about me (Mama)"
However, if you pay attention to what the whole song is talking about and what the lyrics mean it will give you even more insight into why EXO have been sent to Earth and what their mission is all about. EXO's storyline begins with them being sent to Earth to try and heal the world and to stop and prevent the Red Force from taking over and corrupting everything. And the story in the lyrics of "Mama" foreshadows what they will have to overcome and understand about humans and our world to accomplish their tasks. EXO kind of takes humanity to task and asks us to explain why we would allow all this anger and hatred to cloud everything around us and why we don't love each other more? It's really a very beautiful message and the more you learn about EXO the more interesting the whole thing becomes.
In the song the members, being aliens from another planet, are struggling to understand how we as humans could allow all this evil and bad things to happen all around us, such as war, hatred and the destruction of the environment, etc. and they are daunted by the fact that they are now tasked with figuring out how to fix it all and prevent more evil from taking place. That's why they need to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them to restore peace. EXO's story is part supernatural and Sci-Fi and part based on reality, which touches on real life events and things that are really happening in the world. And from the very beginning, even during pre-debut days, and everything since then and everything yet to come, it all is connected to that storyline. Everything EXO does and everything you see from them, including Baekhyun and Kai's parts in SuperM, all has something to do with the concept and story that began with "Mama," and each new installment of something from the members expands a little further on EXO's story. Whether it's an MV from the group, a solo project from one of the members, a sub-unit project, a live performance, teaser videos, concert VCRs, or even a good amount of their choreography, it all has been designed to connect to EXO's storyline.
Also, the symbols you saw represent each of the members and it has to do with each of their powers. For instance, Kai's symbol is a pyramid and it represents teleportation, and Lay's symbol is a unicorn and it represents his power of healing, etc. (In future MVs and other things to do with EXO, when you see things like a pyramid, you know that is a reference to something to do with Kai, etc.) Even the most minute of details in EXO's content has something to do with their origin story and EXO's storyline.
It's kind of mind blowing the amount of planning and manipulation SM has been doing over the years to connect all the dots and to continue the story. It gets even crazier when you realize how even the smallest of details were crafted to be a hidden message or detail within that storyline.
Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order, so we, as EXO-L, have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of everything any of the members are involved in to try and piece it all together and figure out where each part fits within their larger storyline.
To help you pinpoint the powers being used in EXO's MVs and live performances, here is a list of the members and what their special power is.
EXO-K
💦 Suho (Kim JunMyeon) is the leader of the group and he is a lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. That's why as the leader of EXO, his stage name is Suho.)
💡Baekhyun is a main vocalist and his superpower is the ability to control light
🔥Chanyeol is the main rapper and lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control fire and his spirit animal is the phoenix.
🌏D.O. (Do KyungSoo) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control earth (dirt) which gives him strength/force
☄Kai (Kim JongIn) is a main dancer, lead vocalist and sub-rapper and his power is teleportation (Kai means opening as in a door or gateway, so his stage name is meant to symbolize his role in the group.)
