Feldy has been a part of my life. From gold finger to every Mest album to Story of the Year's Page Avenue and The Used and Four Year Strong and many many other bands. Feldy and Nolly are Definitly my two favorite producers ever.
This was one of my favorite shows! When Dave got teared up at the end talking about Mike I was right there with him. Feldmann was an awesome guest! Love you guys!!
Dave, herb, John and team. Thank you for tonight. This has been my fave show and I just want to let you know how important the work is your are doing. You are literally changing a generation. Thanks
So psyched Feldman came on the show. The first producer that I ever really became aware of when I was about 14. I've been a fan of his long before I started producing/engineering. He produced two of my favorite bands and gave them their start. The Used, Story of the Year. This dude is the man.....
Mike is a true inspiration. So prolific. I'll miss him. Also, needless to say, Dave, Herb, Will and the rest of the Pensado's Place gang continue to serve up engineering and philosophical gold, week by week. By far The best thing on the net.
Dave man... I just wanted to give you a hug man. I was devastated when I herd the news and I didn't even know the guy. I love you man, I love what you are doing with the show. I wish I could express how I feel better than this... I'm just so sorry this has happened. RIP Mike, you're sorely missed. Peace and love guys!! x
Goldfinger might not be a household name, but Goldfinger was one of my pinnacle bands growing up. I love them. I saw them play in SF too - amazing live band. John Feldmann is a music god. Keep the mojo going!!!
Every time I look at a Pesando vid I feel disappointed that it doesn't have more views. This is good quality, original content that is obviously lovingly produced. On UA-cam that is rare and beautiful thing. Just wish more people saw it.
RIP Mike Shipley. Wishville by Catherine Wheel is 1 of my favorite albums, and he worked on that (along with his long list of other cool albums). Great episode.
I saw Goldfinger a few times in Tampa back then, and the energy was insane. I remember when the drummer would do a double snare hit (basically: brick'em brick'em) John would snap his head front to back twice so hard I thought the motherfucker was going to roll off onto the stage. how he did that without breaking his neck blew my 18 year old mind.
Great interview. I did notice a couple instances that John mentioned things that weren't facts. For example when asked about if a particular stick or tip was used on drums when recording Pretty Handsome Awkward, he said "I think Brandon was using". Brandon wasn't part of the recording process of Lies For The Liars. Dean Butterworth of Good Charlotte recorded the bulk of those songs, and Dan Whitesides a couple. It was after Brandon had left and joined Rancid. I'm sure with as much as John has worked on it was a simple case of mis-speaking. I'm not trying to sound like a prick by pointing it out. John I'd by far my favorite producer..ever.
Will, that ITL was hard to listen to. Dave voice was very low and the audio examples played were in turn ear piercing. We needed to ride the volume knob constantly! Doesn't anybody check these things? I mean, the ITL isn't live, it's recorded and you could easily have matched the volume of Dave's voice and his vocal examples to be closer to each other in post! This is after all Pensado's Place, a show about engineering. I love you guys but I find it hard to understand how such things slip.
PP needs to drop Avid as a sponsor, because the company has some serious morality issues it needs to work out. Avid doesn't deserve a shout-out on such a great show.
ITL sounded bad as far as voice. Why is it audio guys can't make decent audio for video yet can mix records fine.lol I think you guys need to work on making Dave's voice louder and a lav mic on him to get rid of the room sound in his voice just on the ITL obviously.

Don't be sad, most people don't care how the music is made they just enjoy it and that's ok
RIP Mike, Dave your the best
Rest In Peace, Mr. Mike Shipley.
Go john go!
SOMEONE AT PENSADO'S PLACE PLEASE FIX THE VK ANSWERS WHICH SUPPOSE TO BE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE VIDEO AS HERB ALWAYS SAYS.
YOU GUYS ARE IT.
Can you please post the VK answer to turning off hard drives.
knocking down 6-8 db reduction on the vocals? is it all? or on each comp or smth?
thanks mike shipley! =~
can someone please tell me which reverb plugins that Dave said? My english & plugin acknowledge is not so good.. Thanks in advance
Feldy should check out a band called Tieken,
What the fuck did I just find? This seems like something that Tim and Eric would come up with. Santa Claus guy is like cracked out...
Woah I'm a little late to this channel...

Where's the answer to the Stump-the-VK-guy question?
this is an awesome and informative vid. johns a cool mofo
is it just me that uses a nylon tip to get the ride bell sound.....
+1 Ironic that the ITL was about compression with vox as the example...
This guy obviously drinks a lot of coke!! Dave this show is INCREDIBLE!
PP needs to drop Avid as a sponsor, because the company has some serious morality issues it needs to work out. Avid doesn't deserve a shout-out on such a great show.
...you didn't answer my question dammit !! :)
Gotta get Anne Catalino on here!
Johns high on some crazy drug for sure
I knew him like 25 yrs ago - he was always like this - always upbeat with a lot of natural energy.
not to mention he has been sober for decades if i am not mistaken
55:55 how to take care of your voice - have a garbage can to throw up in after every song

Please stop the radio myth. It is false, and it takes away Jamaicas contribution to music.
how much coke did Feldmann do before the show? sheesh!
