- A Song For You (How Great Thou Art) - Donna Summer ( Live ) 'A Song For You', originally written and performed by Leon Russell, became a signature song of the late great Donny Hathaway. The song has been covered by many outstanding artists including Ray Charles, The Temptations, and most recently Whitney Houston on her new CD. Here, Donna Summer blends this song along with the gospel classic, 'How Great Thou Art', reminiscent one of her great idols Mahalia Jackson.
Donna was one of the most anointed Gospel Singers ever. her gospel and christian music will continue to bring people to God With us. Her Christian fans miss her. She had altar calls at many of her concerts and a Bible Study. We celebrate her Home.ty.
NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE can sing as beautiful as her. What vocals. This was really an example of Donna's true singing abilities. Perfect control of a beautiful voice. Great song. Thanks for posting. We really miss her. RIP beautiful lady!
Amen! 100 times Amen! Just saw The Donna Summer Musical, it was great! Like Donna! ✝✝✝🤗☮
Anche da Roma e'un SI.
We just lost Whitney Houston R.I.P. as I am hearing this amazing vocal perfomance by Donna Summer for the first time. Many are "now" saying that Whitney Houston was the" best" female vocalist of all time.If that's true, then where does that leave this great lady of song and so many other female artists that can sure nuff "SING'?
There is NO reataest female singer! Certainly, there have been exceptional singers. Whitney was definitely in that group along with Ms. Donna and Ms. Patti who just gave high praise Donna Summer. It just comes down to one's preference!
Donna was blessed with a beautiful gift. I listen to this song and the power in her voice touches me in a very deep place in my soul. I'm grateful for whomever put this together. I love you, Donna and miss you....
La cantante perfetta......

Donna could’ve been honored by Kennedy Center before she left
I love it when she sings like this. What a voice!
Such a Beautiful and precious gift that she was
Beautiful! And high praise from Patti Labelle, indeed. My pastor (Bishop E.E. Cleveland) used to always close out his Sunday morning sermons with 'How Great Thou Art'. This brought back memories of a blessed childhood.
Donna can truly sing anything well.
Bravissima!!!!
Who are they ?? Today's generation ? Cause my generation knows that Houston never sang like Donna... not a day in her life !!

Rest in Peace, Disco Queen.
Donna and her family were my neighbors and friends at 16 Parker Hill Ave. in Mission Hill. A sign was erected at the corner of Parker Hill Ave and Huntington Ave by the city of Boston which reads "DONNA SUMMER AVENUE". The memories will last forever. R.I.P. Disco Queen.
Not "Disco Queen", but "THE QUEEN OF DISCO" just as Aretha is the Queen of Soul, Elvis the King of Rock N Roll, Michael Jackson the King of Pop, And Dolly Parton, the Queen of Country Music. It is a rare title, and one that Donna will have as long as she is remembered.
Back in the day, girls who were really into dance music and lived for going out to clubs to dance, THEY were called Disco Queens, as were some of the female singers who had a few hits like Thelma Houston and Vicki Sue Robinson, and many more. They had a modecum of success in the genre, but no one came close to having the success of Donna Summer. She broke some records, and they still stand - the only artist to have 3 #1 double albums go Platinum back-to-back-to=back (3 in-a-row). She is still the holder of the longest single note held by a female singer with that song being in the Top 10 - Pop charts. The song is Dim All the Lights.
She was the first female to have 4 #1 hits on the pop charts within a 12 month period.
DONNA SUMMER, DIVA FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS!!!!!
amazing version song
Amazing! thank you for sharing this with us- :)
One of my favorite Donna performances ! This is such a beautiful vocal register , she didn’t record enough in this key...
Donna was ALWAYS a Christian. She renewed her faith in the very late 70's early 80. Example: she sang THIS song on tour BEFORE the RENEWAL and it was a sweaty, Janice Joplin type ROCK performance. Donna's faith is part of her upbringing and she simply renewed her faith in Christ and turned to God for answers instead of astrology. She set her house in order, in other words. But she has been a Christian since childhood.
Chills and tears when I hear her sing this song
I love Donny's and Donna's both. They are just special for me.
Though the lyrics are written by in English, I can understand and feel these words.
This song is just special and wonderful.
Here's to the queen of disco Donna Summer happy birthday December 31st 2018 may she rest in peace
My thoughts and prayers go out to Donna's family and close friends right now. God Bless you all, and I hope there is some small comfort in knowing that I loved your mother's music. It really was the soundtrack to my life. She taught me how to sing. I will miss her very much, but I will never stop listening to her beautiful voice.
Plesae not now have some respect. She was a great lady just like Whitney.
I cannot express in human language what her voice does to me, so I'll just blur it out like this: av[iuh[uaduUvnadnodvnaoaofna]odna]oidna]idno]aindo]idfn]aoidbrgv]HUFUAHG]AGB]AIAN]GN]G\A\]AGAA\A..... Sorry, my soul gets carried away...
Sing sister Sing celestial summer!!!
RIP Donna; Luv U!!!!
thanks for sharing
Did the Christian community ever fully accept her?
I always liked Donna Summer's singing (and feel) a lot but . . . to me . . . the definitive version of this Leon Russell classic belongs to Jaye P. Morgan.
🎈
