Like you said, it takes a lot of time, experience and deep self-inquiry to find direct answers for yourself and piece the puzzles together. For myself, lack of patience and jumping into the deep end was a big hurdle that slowed down my progress in the past, but life eventually forced me into a rude awakening - just like many others, especially when you ignore the fundamentals of natural Law, spirituality and ego. It was definitely a humbling experience though, and teachers such as yourself who points to a rough guide map makes the walking the path a bit easier. Never take somebody's words as absolute truth, but confirm with direct experience.

Leo, brother - just want to say tha you've helped me so much in life. I had no access to wisdom and didn't know where to start. And many years ago I just stumbled upon your channel a decided to give it a try (with doubts).
And you were the one who helped me to start believing in myself and improving in many aspects. Thank you, brother - I wish you all the best and I respect you so much!

Its AMAZING to keep a journal. I have an app on my phone. It's now 5am in the morning and first I'll meditate and then do breathing exercises. I'll write in my journal what I'm celebrating that day and why I'm feeling great. Ill write about what inspired me and what my purpose is. In the evening I'll write what I'm grateful for. That is a good start to get myself to actually build the habit. Ill grow into writing and in the end do more with contemplation and what you speak about. Making a cup of tea, and listen to the rest of your video. Thanks for sharing!

I purchased the life purpose course and can say it's been nothing short of life changing. It's the price of the course is minute in comparison to the value that you get. But you need to put in the work...if you are not going to work on yourself and do the exercises then dont waste your time and Leo's time. I still have so much to do but I chip away every day at myself and in the course...and when you "finish" the course...you're not really finished! Ever!! It's just new level to reach, a new bar to raise. So much time and effort on Leo's part...make the leap and do the work you wont be sorry.

Leo i never fully agree with what you say but this video was just perfect! I loved it. Journaling is so important to me, mostly because i tend to forget the insights that i get. I feel like the psyche is really fragmented and when you write it's more easy to put it together, just by thinking i can never be too coherent.

I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses for laziness, but at this point there are too many practices (various meditation practices, self-inquiry etc), that I cannot possibly do all of this every day and still keep my day job and responsibilities.
This video definitely makes the case for the importance of this kind of contemplation. But I often find myself having trouble prioritizing practices properly.

    • @shitmandood
      @shitmandood 6 років тому +1

I have the same issue. If you didn't have to work, you could spend all day long just doing self-development. This wouldn't even have to be life purpose material. If you added self-development and life purpose, and still no job, that's two lifetimes worth of ground to cover & work on: self-development & life-purpose training & action.

While I was contemplating relation, meaning and what is personal development the evolution in how a persona relates and interprets came back to me trough my memories and the presented models supplied by you. Thanks for your pointers to the essence of growth. I will likely come back to this one often.

Thanks for the video, Leo. I found this one to be very practical and helpful, although my first round of contemplation has proven to be very....exhausting to actually implement. I would like to document it here for future reference because I ran out of paper :)
As I began my first attempt (I made it about 45 minutes in before I had to stop myself), I began to feel an intense anxiety/panic that has been lingering in the back of my mind for months now that I have been distracting myself from and repressing for quite some time now. I then had the most counterintuitive idea: instead of trying to eliminate this anxiety as I have been, why not face it head-on and contemplate it?
Within about 5 minutes of serious contemplation, I concluded that, through my direct experience in the present, I have no idea why I would be anxious about something. And just as fast as it thrust itself upon my mind, it was gone completely!
This occurred at roughly the 45 minute mark, and I stopped because I broke down in tears of pure joy/relief, which has NEVER happened to me before.
I have now decided to block out time every god-damn day to practice this. Thanks again for uploading this, Leo.

Thank you Leo for another great episode. I have started contemplating many times without success even for ordinary basic questions but in this episode I understood where I was stuck in my study. You basically covered all my questions.
Also, you used to post a section for "Video Transcript" at actualized.org. It was very helpful for me to take notes and read it at times where I cannot watch a video. That would be great if you could bring that feature back in your new videos.
    Cheers mate...

Been journaling for about 4 years now and learned a lot about myself, had very profound realizations and became very self aware specially after getting out of an abusive relationship, researching about psychology and connecting the dots. At first I had high hopes that this knowledge and deep feelings and insights would make me a better person but my intellect and awareness gets trumped most of the time by other dysfunctional parts of my brain and I can't apply them in everyday life.. like dealing with social anxiety, chronic procrastination , alcoholism and sometimes going off on my family who don't deserve it.. It's always a struggle.. I feel like a prisoner of the brain and being hyper aware seems to make me more crazy and also more depressed and disappointed in myself for always resetting and going around in circles. Sometimes I feel like I need a futuristic brain surgery to really get better:(
And it sucks because here in my country most people aren't really educated on psychology and most are unempathetic, judge or ridicule those who have issues. We can't control our genetics, childhood brain development, brain physiology and chemistry etc.. w/c dictates how we think, feel, react, behave, our drive and level of capability to change or improve. Just thinking about myself, the future, the big picture, reality just puts me in a state of despair.

This is really important and as an academic I find it difficult to find direct experiences when everyone around me is all theory theory theory . Every day I struggle with myself when the entire world wants me to be someone else. To an academic there is no worse than direct experience because it is unverifiable and unobservable. Science is successful because of this, because of the empirical constraints. And the cost of this success is my inability to think with direct experiences.

    • @shitmandood
      @shitmandood 6 років тому

Who is it that wants you to be someone else? Usually, such people are only saying that if they know you & see how it might better serve you through going in that the direction they're thinking about. It is only a suggested path, but it's not the way unless you choose it to be such. I only had my parents that chose for me to be someone else. Nobody else gave a shit. If you think the world thinks that much of you, that is just a mirage.

    • @pramitbanerjee
      @pramitbanerjee 6 років тому

not necessarily, you can have direct experience without language. Just don't produce words inside your head, or visual imagery.

    • @wladicus1
      @wladicus1 6 років тому +1

_ The academic mind will never get it because it is "space-time" biased.
_ Direct experience is not in space-time and is not comprehensible to the any mind!
_ mind is simply the activity of thought.
_ experience is NOT a thought, although after an experience one can have thoughts about the experience, but all such thoughts are biased based on psycho-somatic, educational, and general societal conditioning of various sorts.
_ Thus the 'mind', any kind of mind, cannot comprehend a direct experience itself
_ It is more accurate to say direct 'experiencing' rather than 'experience' since the actual happening is a 'perceiving'.
_ The 'perceiving' is assimilated through the sensory process of perception and then thinking about what has been 'percieved' is stored as a memory based on conceptual biases and the memory is recalled with the stored bias and any current bias that may be of influence at the moment. As research has shown, memory is often inaccurate and subject to tiny changes over time.

This is invaluable. It’s going to be a massive, massive help to me with some self doubt issues. Want to go one way but keep getting pulled back by majority going another way and it’s hard not to wonder if you’re going to make a mistake in relation to the pressure of the norm. I’ve been flipping this backwards and forwards getting nowhere. I’m going to contemplate on why I am so bound by what others think, which is ultimately my present problem. Meaning is a great one too. Thanks very much Leo 🤖

While I was listening to this video, I posed my own question, "What is motivation" and just brought to mind an activity I was motivated to do and just observed my mind. I felt a strong pull towards the activity in my mind and I had a sort of "aha" moment where I realized that motivation is just your mind pulling you to do something. Sounds pretty simple, I know, but the realization felt so profound. I can't wait to try this technique out with my journal.

It's hard to explain, & I'm not well acquainted with all of this... but. I've been acknowledging my past child self daily as his own person for over a month now as an exercise. He exists to me right now in that place & time, separate from me.
I lost my sense of self for a brief moment when my view of my child self & potential future self detached from my current perceived self; my child self is not me, yet my present self is here shaping his future. All my actions in improving my life today is giving my child self a brighter future, & it's this time in my life I'll be looking at 20 years from now as my future self, acknowledging me with the same compassion, love & understanding, because of what I'm doing now!
I made this connection with everyone & everything else as well.
Perhaps in some convoluted way I've obtained a small piece of understanding oneness?
I felt a love I've never felt before. I cried like I had never cried before. For myself, for everything & everyone around me. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I now somewhat recognize the significance & completeness of the present... !
I hope this makes some sense... I'm not sure of it all really...

Leo, are you intending on making a video about mental illnesses, their stigmas, the hopelessness that comes with them and what can we do to detach from them, is that in your plans any time soon? I'm sure some people are still stuck in that obstacle since therapy seems to be sucking people out of their money rather than being any beneficial, let's also not forget about the fact that they adore shoving medicines in their patient's mouth just to make them feel "better", so I'm mentioning this whole trap thing, How do people overcome them? Is it with sheer will power, pretending, spirituality...etc?

You can approach any subject using the five “W”s - Who, What, Where, When, and Why to get a handle on contemplation, hitting your focus of contemplation from multiple angles. Going further, use each of the five“W”s thinking in terms of all time periods, from the dawn of man until now, or earlier than man in some cases. Mind Maps can also be helpful in contemplating various subjects.

I was doing this as a teenager (with thoughts on life and reality since I was heavy into Buddhism then) , and then stopped when I got a job and got married... Need to go back to this powerful tool. Thanks for inspiration. Your videos really help in so many ways. I used to be terrified of public speaking, and now I'm volunteering to do public presentations at work in front of 100 people (that's a lot for me). You make me rethink everything.

Hello leo, I contemplate through journals, I spend the majority of my time trying to feel better. I can't seem to be able to get there! I asked my self all sorts of questions, and I receive mind blowing answers, but after my revelations I find happiness, joy just not there. I think I tried everything in the book. I don't know where to go from here, except maybe,,,,

    Mastermind Question:
I agree with you but I wonder if it is not a little bit limiting only learning and contemplate from your own experience, would not it be more efficient to contemplate with experience from others to build on them. Besides, that is it even possible to contemplate without any external information? I would say external information is necessary for you to process your direct experience. Looking forward to mastermind with you all guys!

Hi everyone, any advices to avoid any Ego interferences in contemplation exersices? Maybe meditate before? My Ego presence is still anoying when i try exercises like that. As soon I set my mind to don't fall on any ego trap I'm already at one. I'm a bit lost here. Any help?

    Notes :
    7:40
Get your Notepad preffered pencil and paper
Sit down and you set a good amount of time 30 or 60 minutes to build up momentum
    Write the question
From ground zero in a same way that you are working through a math provlem or a proof
    Dont speculate or philosophizing
Ground yourself in your direct expirience and concrete examples:
Find examples in your direct expirience instead of theories that you have read and learned
You let your mind observe what it is
How is it arising and what its doing
You ask are the red apple and lemon different thoughts?
All diffrent kind of thought ls
    Are they diffrent in someway?
    You start queationing assumptions
    Admit thatcyou do not know
Keep pointing back what is an object
Keep bringing those examples and questions to hwlp you see what an object is
It could take a year to know what is
The goal is not the answer itself
But to have your mind explore the nooks and grannies of questions and different answers
    Dont write mindlessly stuff down
    Go slowly
    Track reality
    Starting assumptions:
    1.you are full of shit
2.Nothing that mind says can be trusted
3.all beliefs and teaching are false
    4.only direct experience are true
    5.The truth is not fragile
    Conteplatio is not :
    1.Speculation and guesswork
    2.Justifying your existing beliefs
    3.Building new beliefs
    4.Daydreaming fantasy or imagining
    5.proofs , debates , disagreement
    6.opininizing
    7.pursue of success
Your problems comes from a lack of deep understanding what they are
    What is contemplation:
    1.obervation
    2.deconstruction
    3.Awarneas going meta
    4.self reflection
    5.Queationing assumptions beliefs teachings
6.thinking idependently for yourself and desire to know the truth at any cost
    List to contemplate:
    Meaning
    Scoence
    Evil
    Ego
    Concept
    Belief
    Truth
    Evidence
    Sympol
    Language
    Fear
    Hapiness
    Identity
    Thought
    Conflict
    Duality
    Boundary
    Reason
    Culture
    Object
    Value
    Difficult questions:
    What am i
    What is reality
    What ia god
    Those nees mystical experiences
    Difference self-inquiry and contemplating:
    Tracending the mind
    Thinking about how life works
    Adittional questions:
How am i full of shit
    How am i lying
What truths i refuse to accept
    How am i evil
    How am i corrupt
    Whsy do i fear
    What do i whine about
    How do i play victim
    How im self-biased...
    Successful contemplation requies :
    Radical openmindness
    Fearlesness
    Brutal self-honesty
    Carful obervation
    Impartiality
    Holding no ideas sacred
    Not knowing
    Self-relliance
    Genuine curiosity
    Traps :
    1.Taking things as self-evident
    2.contemplate toward the right answer
    3.relying on external sources
    4.thinking inside of your culture
    5.build grand theories
    6.false skepticism rationalizing and science
    7.distraction
It feels like you cutting lots of bullshit
    Homework :
    What is meaning ?
    Where this meaning come from?
    What creates meaning ?

Leo, you told us not to write what we learned from external sources in order to recognize what our direct experience tells. But what if I wrote all of that external information first to then question its coherence with my own experience? Maybe this idea may seem like a trap from the ego, but it seems more efficient for me to identify every possible assumption and then question its validity by the start instead of taking the risk of not noticing it in what I write. What do you think about this?

    • @ActualizedOrg
      @ActualizedOrg  6 років тому

+Rafael Ribeiro It can be useful to write out external assumptions, but there are way too many of them for you to write them all out. And you are not conscious of the most important ones. So either way you cannot escape this risk. Hidden assumptions are always lurking around the corner no matter what you do. So the key is to stay wary.

Leo, what do you think about 'the path of bliss'?
Seems an appealing idea at first, absurd soon after.
Can be seen as a different application of the principle 'awareness alone is curative' ?
Can be seen as the quickest way to drop your shoulds ?
Can all the 'egoic indulgence' that this kind of approach could and will lead go full circle and end up in the best lifestyle that a person can have?
In the spiritual field, i' ve seen teal swan selling it as the best and most direct way to expand and shinzen young just claiming that works too among other tecniques.

  • @davidlockertlie

Leo, you say that we need to verify truths in our own direct experience. What if the ultimate Truth is transcendent of experience itself?
I will leave a quote from an enlightened person that illustrate this particular insight:
"You cannot know the Unknowable beyond All Knowing. Knowing requires an Experiencer to experience it. Enlightenment is not a Knowing, which is limited to what is Knowable and not the Realization of the Unknowable Forever Beyond Experiencing."

I somewhat disagree with the notion that using an electronic device is not ideal for journaling.
You said that there are tons of distractions, such as notifications and games.
I don't think the problem is the notifications themselves, but rather your attitude towards them.
Notifications can easily be turned off. And even if you're using a physical notebook and a pencil, you can still be distracted by yourself, wanting to check your phone.
Other than that, this is a great video.

I am glad I am still onboard with self-inquiry, St-Lucia conspiracy theory in my mind ran, from the power of All-Chad, so where is creative freedom? What is creative freedom? How can I frame this question to align with higher cognitive thinking and order? Why feels truthful to me, satisfaction currently! The resolution of self and dissolution of self arising and seperating itself, I have never considered that I have to contemplate the lies and deceit of others. Honesty and Truth are fundamentally connected, I think Truth is the first value I will take over consciouness.
Let's see! Thank you for any kind of support, even when I am an ass, I hope you know that you also did some serious damage to me with your attitude and if I deny that, I would be lying to myself. Still you vision and work has more value than anything I have seen, yet fuck it takes Truth to handle your content, I did not think I have to go that far and even make people cry even if you advice against it etc.

so I know from experience that the only way to experience lasting joy is to let go of the ego and the materialist paradigm and sort of feel the consciousness of everything and how everything is “human”. however, i keep coming back to two questions. how do I know the universe is conscious for one because you talk about spending time in nature and stuff and how you’ll feel spiritual in a sense. but what about if you lived on mars or another cold, dead planet. would you still feel the spirituality there? why does it take being in nature on earth to feel that sense of the universe having human characteristics. shouldn’t it be everywhere if it applied to the whole universe. this leads me to wonder if spirituality exists at all or is it just a person feeling joy because believing that it exists is what makes the mind happy? another shorter but more complex question is why do we have subjective experience?

    • @ActualizedOrg
