Dining aboard Silversea cruise ships

- In this video I explore the various options guests have when dining on Silversea cruise ships.
There's always plenty to eat in various venues, whether you like formal dining, buffet style restaurants or just want to eat in your suite.
This video was published during the no-sail period of the COVID pandemic, so options may change as ships start to build their mitigations against the spread of the virus and sailings restart.
Please do like, comment and subscribe to my channel. I'm very grateful. If you have any questions then do contact me and I'll do my best to answer any queries based on my experience of sailing on Silversea over the last 8 or so years as a paying passenger.
A welcome return to a Vlog release 😄
Indocine looks great- I’ve only had two Asian beers 🍺, Singha and Tiger, and prefer the former.
A bit surprised that there is a specialty restaurant that isn’t included in one’s fare, given the per diem on Silversea ships.
Would love to try the Hot Rocks dinner!
Fish 🐠 & 🍟 ... looked like a small piece of fish and 3 chips 😆
Not a 🚢 product I know extremely well (like you)- so learned Silversea have an Italian heritage.
A ton of ℹ️ in this video- thank you for putting it together.
Thanks Bob, glad you enjoyed.
Yes, you could get both of those in Indochine but my favourite is Bintang from Indonesia, never tried it before Silversea but really refreshing. The sommelier used to get me to try something different each time, which is a really nice way of trying new things.
I know what you mean about the specialist restaurants. To be honest, I’m happy enough with the quality in the regular dining options, but it’s sometimes nice to splash out if I’ve got a bit of OBC to burn. Hot rocks is great, I did it in Antarctica one evening and froze! :D But what an experience to sit out on the open deck cooking your steak as the ice went past.
Yes, I sometimes ask for a double portion of the fish and chips. Not quite a chip shop portion and I’m not overly fond of the fillets being sliced into fingers rather than being served a whole one like proper English chippys! They often have it as part of their lunchtime pub singalong event. I order in the restaurant though.
Will have to think of the next topic now.
An interesting video overflowing with information. So many wonderful restaurants to choose from. I love going out to dinner on a cruise ship, it always feels very special and excuse to dress up a bit. I particularly liked the sound of the small plates with blues and jazz music, I think it was the Silver Note & the Japanese restaurant because I love sushi and sashimi but rarely have it other than when we're on a cruise. I'd love to try Silverseas one day, perhaps for a special occasion and if I do I'll be checking in with you first for tips.
Hi Angela,
Glad you enjoyed. There’s always a lot to talk about food on cruise ships as you know. I agree, it’s nice to get dressed up, there’s so few occasions on land now to do so, and you’re right about having some music accompaniment too. I love the bar musicians, always very talented and have a jazzy/middle of the road or classical theme, which is right up my street. Occasionally if the passenger numbers allow, they sometime organise a dinner dance in the MDR, where they clear tables in the centre and the house band play whilst you eat and you can get up and dance between courses. If you ever decide to try Silversea, do let me know and I’ll give you some tips. Plus also I can refer you through the loyalty programme so that I think you’ll get some additional discount/amenities which is always nice
Thank you for your video and great commentary.
I have cruised with Silverseas and found them to be very accommodating.
We were on an extended cruise and the Concierge at the restaurant was very pleasant.
One day he asked us if there was anything that we really liked and my Wife just wanted a pie and chips for a change.
He took our order and there it was on the silver service table for my Wife.
Another evening he asked me if there was anything I wanted. I asked if Rabbit would be available. He said he would speak to the Chef.
The next day he advised me that the Chef had procured Rabbit and I was asked how would I like it prepared. I advised him that to tell Chef that I would love it however he prepared it.
It was the most enjoyable Rabbit that I have ever had.
That is Silverseas Service.
Thank you.
I agree. They’re incredibly focused on the passenger. Nothing seems too much trouble.
I could listen to you talk about fine dining for hours!
Haha, I think between us we could do one of those talkathons for charity :D Actually that's a good idea - we could have our own channel! x
Is there a dress code in La Dame. looking forward to resuming cruising on Silversea in July 2022.
Enjoy your trip! No, there’s no separate dress code for any of the restaurants - just follow the ship’s daily dress code. The only exception is that you can dress casual on formal night at the pool grill if you don’t want to get dressed up.
paying for a cruise is the day your travelling spirit has died! whats the f point? you travel to explore each countries secrets....how does that occur ordering food to a ships cabin?
I don’t think they are mutually exclusive. Cruises can be a good way of getting a taste of a destination that you can then go back and explore in more detail. Some cruise lines recognise this and are becoming more immersive in the destination eg. Silversea’s SALT programme
Excursions take place during the morning and afternoon hours and in the evening you go to dinner. Half the reason why people choose Silversea (including myself) is because of the excursions that allow you to see the exciting Port destinations. Sometimes you’re so tired from exploring during the day, that ordering a meal in your stateroom is a real treat. You can eat in your bathrobe and be happy to be on vacation!
