It's snowing like crazy this morning and we already have a little over a foot of snow so I'm going to stay home and binge watch JustinScarred videos. :)
I had once asked my grandmother about the leg makeup thing. In WWII when things like rubber and nylon and silk, all of which are used to make ladies hosiery, was rationed makeup companies came up with the make up idea so ladies could have a look of nylons. They even has black makeup for your legs so you could make the seam in the back like they used to have back in the 40's.
Great job Justin, alot of useful information and great places. I'm from Eastern Europe and for 2 years i'm planning to travel the whole Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles and i would also like to do it in May. After 2 years now i have the time and the money to do it. I hope to see you on the route :)
I had the joy of meeting Elmer several years ago. He LOVED telling me all about the things on his bottle trees! He was a pleasure to talk to....and a true representation of what Route 66 is all about! :)
It's hard to decide what my favourite roadside attraction was. The bottle farm was mindblowing and the museum was amazing. Great job Justin! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures.
One of your best videos, ever. Glass insulators in good condition sell for about $35.00 each in the antique stores where I live. My grandmother, who kept a few on windowsills, laughed that they'd become collectibles. In her day they sold for about five cents each as junk that nobody wanted.
24:21 Actually Justin those red bars going up towards the grill are what are called "lateral leaf-spring" suspension. It's what they use to use even on old horse drawn buggies and coaches.☺
I met Justin at Disneyland yesterday. He is as nice in person as he is in his video's. I felt bad, because I interrupted him from taking pictures but he was super cool, and let me take a picture with him. Keep up the awesome vids Justin, and thanks for being so nice.
Very enjoyable vlog Justin. so glad you are feeling better. Glad you were able to enjoy the museum this time. It had a lot of historical information there.
I am headed toward RT 66 starting on July 10, 2017 from Central Texas to Santa Monica and you def gave me a lot of ideas for my trip. We are #scootingacrossamerica for PTSD and homeless veterans. This is one of my stops on my trip, and definately going to have to have lunch at the crossed eyed Pizza place. Hope their still open when I get there. Thanks again.
As always, enjoyed your video. I'm retiring in two months and my one and only goal is to drive Route 66 from end to end. I pick up all sorts of pointers from videos like yours.
The ceramic insulators are from power lines but the glass ones are mostly from old telephone lines but there are a few that are from old telegraph lines, very cool.
I had a feeling you'd like the bottle tree ranch. Hopefully you can meet Elmer some day. He was super nice when I met him, and spent a good amount of time talking with me and my family. Good guy.
Whichever way you drive Route 66, you should take the train on the opposite trip. Get a sleeper (preferably the one with your own bathroom) and just enjoy the scenery.
Us, Mojave Desert folk, pronounce it Oro Gron. Generally we don't pronounce the d and never the e. Interesting, huh?! Just sharing a little friendly local lingo. Thanks for another awesome vlog! :)
OMG I had that Pony Tail Scrap Book! I had not thought about that in years! PS women in WWII used make up on their legs because silk was not available - all silk was used to make parachutes. Women who could not afford make up used coffee to stain their legs and in those days stockings had seams - you would get a friend to draw the seam down your leg with an eyebrow pencil
Justin you sure know how to make a great vlog as a petson who likes so many of the old ways of doing things and looking at antiques i can sure relate to this vlogg. Thanks agsin until next time see you then.
Duuude, just got back from Epcot and magic kingdom,so so so amazing.Rope dropped MK this morning and rode space, thunder and splash mountain as well as the mine train in under 90 minutes. You traveling to the world next week?Flower and garden is going on as well.
Re: Leg and Body Makeup - During WW II, there was a silk and nylon shortage, as they were being used to make parachutes and things. Consequently, if your silk or nylon stockings got a run or hole, you were S.O.L. One of the ways that women got around that was to use makeup on exposed body parts to simulate stockings, even going so far as to paint seams on the backs of their legs with iodine. Pretty resourceful, I'd say.
whenever you do decide to take all of route 66 i would love to meet ya in person in chicago! i didnt even know route 66 was here until a couple years ago
27:10 oh I actually know that one! Normally in those days women wore nylons, but during the war nylon was collected and used for the war (parachutes or something I don't know), so women would basically paint their legs as a substitution.
I have a mint EGG HEAD pinball machine in the Robothut museum also, it was the first pinball machine with a robot theme, its very hard to play do to the small flippers and low flipper power. The canvas bags that you mentioned that old timers would hang on there cars were also for drinking, the water would seep threw the canvas bag and would then evaporate and as any of you know who pay'd attention in science class, evaporation is a cooling process, so this would give then cold water to drink.
Bottle farm...INSANE!! There was a tree with bottles from Canada's Pop Shoppe!! 30 flavours!! Wow, nice museum in Barstow; worth the trip back!!! PeeWee, don't jump - you're not at the Alamo!!
Justin! You're future Route 66 landmark should be called Randomland! And it can be a museum of all the stuff you've collected on your adventures! And it can display your videos! And your art! Basically like Ripleys, since you're kinda a modern day Robert Ripley. Only you can open a old school diner that serves gluten free food.
I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but some of those guns look like some pretty rad WW2 artifacts that should probably be in a musuem. It's still an awesome 'forest' though!

on your next trip to the bottle tree ranch be sure to take an empty sarsaparilla bottle from knott's berry farm to help fill out those bare branches.
I'm so excited to see some more Route 66 videos!!

I just added the Bottle Tree Ranch to my ever-growing "bucket list".

great video! good to see you go to the old Route 66 sites.
Great video. Lived in San Bernardino for years and never took the opportunity to discover Barstow. Darn it!
OMG I had that Pony Tail Scrap Book! I had not thought about that in years! PS women in WWII used make up on their legs because silk was not available - all silk was used to make parachutes. Awww, my mommy had a 64.5 mustang! It was that beautiful orangey red. I remember it well! An official vehicle of the 64-65 NYWF!
Your grandma couldn't have had a Barbie doll case in 1955 because the first Barbie doll was sold in 1959. :) Loved this vlog.
I lived in Lubbock, Texas for two years, where dusty winds were an almost constant companion.
You are in a joyous mood! Glad you got some rest.
Duuude, just got back from Epcot and magic kingdom,so so so amazing.Rope dropped MK this morning and rode space, thunder and splash mountain as well as the mine train in under 90 minutes. You traveling to the world next week?Flower and garden is going on as well.

I have been wanting to go to the Bottle Tree ranch for a few years now
Awesome vlog and place
glad ur back in saddle
Dang in class!! Ugh I'll watch when I get out! XD
was I the only one who saw and loved seeing all the characters from cars in the museum
Wow, u recovered quick from the dentist to go on a roadtrip. Figured it would take at least a couple days before u would venture out again.
That place is really cool.
Love to go there and make so pro level HDR photos.
11:50 Great joke Justin!😄
That old motorcycle looked like a Harley-Davidson Sprint. I had one many, many years ago.
got to bring Alley with you next time you go to this ranch.
that menu was from a old A&W
Positively going strings since December 2016!!! #questforpositivity
The blacksmith looks like Adam the woo lol
I can't believe you were so close to my house and I missed you.
If the trash can is swinging, it's windy. If it's full, it's rainy.
Bottle farm...INSANE!! There was a tree with bottles from Canada's Pop Shoppe!! 30 flavours!! Wow, nice museum in Barstow; worth the trip back!!! PeeWee, don't jump - you're not at the Alamo!!
that's a lot of bottles. I had a red 68 mustang. I wish I still did.
Congratulations on not losing your hat in that wind.
Way cool, the bottle ranch!

Ps you need to write a book dude...
You oughta do a giant "R For Adventure" hat for your route 66 attraction!
Brilliant!
If I had my way, there would be hundreds of wind machines there. It is always windy there!!!
20:27 Imagine if your car breaks down, your car battery stops working, or your car is out of gas and there's no one for miles on Route 66😮🚗⛽️
You could build a Tiki Town on Route 66. That way you could buy/collect as many Tikis that you want.
s/o to spain on the freight behind you at 2:36
What is the name of the ending song. Great video keep it up
Let me know when ur in Chicago
I live here and can show you around if you would like!
If you don,t support places they will die
Unknown
Keep up the good work Justin by showing these places to the world. And supporting them.
Barbie didn't launch until 1959, so your grandmother probably didn't get one until she lived in California.
Makes me want a beer lol
good one!
Heeeeeeeeeee's Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahah poor 2011 is apparently chop liver! LOL
I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but some of those guns look like some pretty rad WW2 artifacts that should probably be in a musuem. It's still an awesome 'forest' though!
good one
