Disney ruled the world in the 80s and 90s and with all their success they wanted to expand beyond just movies and theme parks. Almost all of these business ventures failed except for one, that being the Disney Store. As a kid, I went to the Disney Store at least once a week. Unfortunately a majority of the Disney Stores have closed down and the few that remain open have been remodeled to have a more "modern" look. I recently came across the remnants of an old school 90s style Disney Store. I believe this particular location closed forever in 2016 so it survived a lot longer than others of its kind. Even though the Disney Store themed elements are gone there are still some remnants of the past hidden in the cracks and crevices of the new store that replaced it. If you have an old school Disney Store in your area, let me know in the comments below!

Walking around in here really made me miss the old school Disney Stores from the 90s 😭
hi ben im a big fan
Oof same💔
Magic Moon thank you!!!
jimmy is so cool and good plz get me to 100 subs thanks jimmy
Dude that looks like my old Disney store I am 12 and when. I was growing up it almost look like a classic Disney store so sad that I had to close Reston peace Disney store
Fantastic video Ben! I definitely agree with you that The Disney Stores were way cooler in the 1980’s and 1990’s than the 21st century. I never liked how they stopped building new locations with display fugues beginning in 2000. I thankfully still have a 1990’s Disney Store left in my area. There is a pipe rail themed location in Baltimore Maryland, which I hope will stay for decades to come!
Thanks so much Ryan!!! Love the old school stores. I’d love to visit the old school Disney Store, where in Baltimore?
Ben Laurence White Marsh Mall. I really should do a vlog on it the next time I’m in the area!
Ryan's Treasures do it :) I’d love to see it. After this coronavirus thing is over we might do a BL road trip down that way and I’d love to stop in
The Eisner era Disney stores were pretty cool
Absolutely! They don’t make ‘em like they use to :(
I remember the South Shore Plaza having an old Disney store with all the characters in the window of the store i can go back 15 to 20 years ago of my life i just cant remember 10 minutes ago
I can’t remember the old SSP Disney store for some reason 🤔 I go to the new one all the time though!
@@BenLaurence I do it's in my town , and used to love going in and seeing the characters up in the air on ledge
Where was it in the mall??
@@BenLaurence yes the original one was where the apple store is now
@@BenLaurence I worked as a former CM at the new one for a few years, and what they told me was it being like most Disney Stores in malls moved around a lot , so one day I decided to venture around after shift and every other door backstage of the corridors had a Disney Mickey mouse on logo on it's door hahaha
Awww I worked in these style of Disney Store back in the day, thanks for the memories Ben
That’s awesome!! That must have been a pretty cool job
Ben Laurence It was a lot of fun Ben, really hard work but I loved my 10 years there
Mark Forrest would love to have worked at the old school Disney Store!
That was pretty cool! That took me back a few years!! That's funny how the people that run that store now left all that old Disney stuff laying around. When you couldn't figure out which Disney character that was on the wall, that was the hyena from the Lion King.
Same here man, brought back a lot of memories! I couldn’t believe how much was left behind. Good eye!! I stopped the video while editing and finally figured out that it was Ed from the lion king 🤣 the way his head was tilted, I couldn’t figure it out haha
@@BenLaurence And dont forget it was a bit dark! 😁
07:06 That was Ed the hyena from Lion King.
Yes that was him, good eye 😃
The mound of stuffed animals was called Plush Mountain. I worked in a Disney Store like that for 2 years in the 90s.
YES PLUSH MOUNTAIN lol. Thanks for creating some Disney Store magic back in the day 🤙🏼
You’re most welcome!! I was a cast member for 2 years. 1994-1996. I wore the letterman sweater with pins all over the “M”. I think I still have my name tag and wrist watch that was part of the uniform somewhere. It was a lot of fun. I remember having to dust the moving figures every Sunday. I also used to do the Window displays.
the one at the emerald mall in massachusetts had a HUGE one when i was a kid... i miss it :(
It was one of the hyenas from the lions king on the wall with Pooh
Good eye! You got it!!! The way his head was tilted I couldn’t tell who it was at first lol
That unrecognizable drawing was one of the hyenas from The Lion King. I think specifically the one of the trio that didn't speak. 😁
You got it, it’s Ed from the lion king. Good eye my friend 😃
Hey there! Essentially 46 seconds of magic is a guest servicing tactic that Disney uses/used. Approaching the guest either multiple times through 46 seconds or having a 46 second conversation is the ideal time for cast to make a connection with the guest!
Thanks for the info 😁
I identify with the whole “can’t visit my old home again”.
Glad someone else feels that way!
It's quite literal for me! My childhood home is now abandoned. Alas, nothing lasts. :(
What no comment about the Nightmare Before Christmas back @3:58?
I totally didn’t even notice that till I was editing! Good eye Spencer!
7:06 Ed from The Lion King! :D
Yes that’s him :) good eye!!
Where was this filmed? I live in mass and this reminds me of an defunct disney store I visited as a child
Sorry I can’t reveal the location :(
Might have been that mall in taunton/raynham area
It wasn’t. If you look at my recent videos you’ll see the Taunton mall is closed
There is a functioning old school Disney store in Merced, CA.
Awesome! I’d love to check it out
And in South Bend Indiana
I remember going in I believe that Disney store and got an Ariel doll
Nice!
Back in 2014 I used to go to a Disney store in a mall sadly yesterday was the closing of the Disney store :(
Like if you eat
Eat what do I dare ask 😅
In Lizzie McGuire remember her on screen brother Matt? I forget the actors name but he’s like lizzie’s talking about dressing like Britney Spears!! Man she is hot point is Mickey Mouse club the fact that she jt Christina Aguilara and Ryan gosling were all in the same show together as 9 year olds I’d mind blowing
Yeeeeah 😅
I just finished the vid nice vid bro hope u do more of this abondend disney places this was a cool experiment keep up the good work💕💓
jimmy is so cool and good plz get me to 100 subs thank you!! I’ve surprisingly done a lot of abandoned Disney videos, scroll threw this playlist and you might find some 😃 ua-cam.com/play/PLuPKcuFoogeEqyL6ya_2wZnoELbSjClAw.html
Ik bro u have did a lot i saw all of them i mean more of those vids cause they are super fun💓💕
jimmy is so cool and good plz get me to 100 subs thank you!!
Is that at square one Mall in Saugus ?!?!?
Sorry I can’t reveal locations 🙂
@@BenLaurence you guys should check out the GamePad in Haverhill Mass once everything opens back up
Sounds pretty cool is it like an arcade or something?
@@BenLaurence it has some arcade games and machines also more modern games too like PS4 Xbox and vr it's got a little bit of everything and it's a bar but if u don't drink u don't need to be 21 u can still go and just hangout and play games
My mall must’ve updated mine in the late 90s or early 00s bc it wasn’t quite this cool. It had like a light blue and navy vibe from what I recall and giant mickey ear arches in the entrance. It still had the projector and tiered shelf! However, they closed it and recently it returned as the not so cool place it is now.
Yeah I believe the Mickey ear entrance was sometime in the mid 2000’s. We have one of those pretty close by. It’s the only Disney Store in the area
Louisville, Ky still has one.
One of the old style ones?
In September 2018 I was so happy to find a pink and teal Disney Store in Oxford Valley Mall. I spent more time admiring it inside and out than I normally would spend in a Disney Store. I was shocked to discover the same store closed before December 9, 2020 when I returned to the same mall. Stripped clean of color and branding, only the speckled squares on the outside and the glass displays remained. Oh and some checkerboarding on the entrance. I even took photos side by side with my first visit. Frist, I can't believe how long a gap that was between visits, but second, I can't believe I was that close to its demise. And the original visit showed no signs of closure or low inventory. Now the only remains of the Disney Store in Oxford Valley Mall (at least for now) is the retro store as part of a collage by the old Sears which was gone prior to 2018. I tried to peek inside, no traces left. Floors ripped up and shelves blank white. Ceilings a sad dark blue. My only hope is that something lies in the back rooms.
Can you go to Fantasy land at the Philippines
I don’t know what that is?
I used to go to this store every day with my nana I miss it so much. Disney really messed up getting rid of these classic stores
Same here! Definitely miss the old school stores
Sorry I didn’t make it to the premiere to day Ben, I had lots of work to do.
No worries Joe! Hope you enjoy the video
Ben Laurence Thanks Ben🤙🏼
I still have a Disney store like that
Awesome I’d love to check it out
so do i!
Is mind blowing
This is so special for me. I loved the Disney store so much as a kid. I wasn't able to go to the park very much, so it felt like my own little corner of Disneyland. They do still have an 90s style Disney store in the Montclair Plaza in California if you're interested.
That’s awesome!! I miss these old stores 😭
@@BenLaurence Me too! It's been difficult to find people who are as enthusiastic.
Can we just thank hilary duff for never going crazy?
I think I’m going crazy
Speaking of Disney have you ever rode haunted mansion? That cheap ride is always breaking down it’s that popular
Lol you serious? Cheap ride? Have you seen the cheap trash they put out now... I wouldn’t call the Haunted Mansion a cheap ride 😒
I’m nostalgia obsessed also did you watch Hannah Montana Lizzie McGuire Malcolm in the middle that 70s show?
Only Lizzie McGuire, didn’t care for the others
What store was the disney store called? (You were bluring the name of the store that replaced the DS, What was it called?)
The Disney Store...
Omg that song! So sad😪
Missing my classic Disney Store
oh my god this is insane, i vividly remember the one at the warwick mall in rhode island looking just like that :(
and the one at the emerald square mall in massachusetts had a huge tower of plushes. sad they're both closed now and the closest one to me is in the wrentham outlets which is still an hour away, and it's one of the redesigned ones... i love the teal/pink/purple color scheme and the mix between a 50s/80s aesthetic that the old stores used to have
That’s crazy!! Wrentham and the Braintree stores are like the only ones around here. I wonder how long they will last
Worked at the one in San Juan PR from 1997-2002. Thank you for the “backstage” tour! Best memories ever ; still friends with most of my fellow “cast members” ❤️
Miss the old Disney Stores of the 90s
Same
Ha! Now I know what you look like without your shades
Lol
Cool stuff ❤
Rip Disney store
I remember getting a stuffed animal from that mound and I miss all the old disney stores ;-;
Same here 😭 miss that place a lot
Cool I remembered this original Disney Store at the Montclair Plaza here in Ca
Those were the best!! I loved that place! That and natural wonders were my favorites as a kid! 🤣
I really enjoyed this video! I loved the disney store when I was younger. Very unique idea for a video. Subscribed.
Awesome! Thank you!
That is the Disney store that I used to go to when I was younger I can’t believe there’s so much stuff left over from it there
It bugs me that the things you went to as a kid get remodeled
Same here!
7:06
That my friend is Ed (one of the hyenas from the Lion King)
Indeed it is, I was just looking at him from a weird angle
46 seconds of Magic is the time every C.M. has to provide a magical guest service and then jump to the next guest.
Awesome 😃 thanks for the info
there was a disney store in my mall but I'm still a kid so i think it was i new but it shut down so prob an old. i had great time at that disney store. ahh the memories
The one in the Tucson mall(in Tucson, az) is still there, but obviously closed right now
Awesome! I’d love to check it out once it’s open of course
Half of the picture looks like the dog from All Dogs Go To Heaven numbers 2 and 1
Definitely not cause that’s not a Disney movie 😅
Where was that?
Uugghh this gave me SO much nostalgia thinking about 90s Disney stores with the giant teddy piles and moving figurine's on the walls :(
YES miss the 90s Disney store so much 😭
@@BenLaurence Me too!! :( in my hometown Liverpool , we had a 2 story Disney store! It was truly magical. It moved location in I think 2008? Now the relocation is just a 1 story building. It's a lot smaller than the one I loved when I was little
The Broadway Mall on Long Island (NY) still has one like this, I believe.
Nice! I’d love to check it out :)
I worked at the disney store in Oxford Valley Mall from 02 to 04. It was the old fashioned one complete with the film screen, pink and teal, and plush mountain. It just closed about a month ago. So sad but if/when it becomes something else, I will be looking around it for some nostalgia purposes!
I was born in 2007 and still remember this. I remember buying all my cars toys from their. The new one is terrible and bland
Yeah the old stores were way better
Chicago Ridge, IL still has a Pink and Green 90’s Disney Store. However, it’s the very last one in the US with that design, unfortunately…
I know that location and have a few old photos when it was an actual Disney store! The store number gave it away in the stockroom 😬
I appreciate you keeping it a secret :) I’d love to see any photos you have!
I know this is kind of an older video, but I have a question. In your exploring abandoned places, do you ever take a souvenir? Like, did you take a little charm?
No I never really take things. That goes against the explorers code. That’s also why I don’t reveal locations
My local Disney Store used to be like this before most of the European P&G Disney Stores had a mild facelift that saw the original colour scheme painted over with a black and gold scheme similar to the Disney Cruise Line house colours, and sadly had the animatronics removed as well as the original winged logo replaced by a curved metal sign with the red Disney logo on it. Interesting to see some old tags in that drawer, especially the one with the sparkly logo on it that was from the "Pixie Dust" (post-TCP) era of the late 2000s. It was a short-lived era, given that Disney were working on a new design that eventually became the new Imagination Park design, but had a rather interesting design theme that used a lot of character sketches on the interior of new stores that opened during that time, and on point-of-sale packaging.
Did you watch any of these wishbone Sesame Street Arthur rugrats bear in the big blue house Rollie pollie Ollie Barney blues clues (which btw has a reboot) big comfy couch magic school bus Mr Rogers (or is that just something your mom watched as a kid?) Winnie the Pooh anything on playhouse Disney or on Saturday and Sunday mornings like abc TGIF one Saturday morning pbs kids Disney channel nick jr Nickelodeon Cartoon Network classic cartoons/looney tunes going online and playing the childhood games especially from the shows I loved Shirley Temple it’s now called blues clues and you with whole new animation and new host I’m guessing you were born in 91
Ya same 😅
I absolutely missed the Disney Store in the 90s. I remember the time when I was a kid and it was October and my parents took me to The Disney Store for shopping and they bought me a Mickey Mouse Costume and A stuff mickey toy . It brings the Disney magic in my childhood Thanks for doing this video it's amazing
I remember walking into the mall one day and just seeing the Disney store was gone and replaced by this store 😭😭 (it’s the same mall lol i recognized it as soon as you showed the new store😂)
Can’t believe it’s gone!!!
I worked at the Disney Store at Woodfield Mall in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, Illinois in the early 90's.... I've got stories for you!
YESSS I gotta hear some stories. I just got your message!
I used to have a Disney store near me but it closed like two years ago 😔😔😔
RIP Disney Store 😭
My local Disney store in Cedar Rapids Iowa closed in 2001 or 2002
thats about when the one in my area closed
i had to laugh when i saw the rat trap under the thing where mickey mouse was
Lmao I almost stuck my finger in it 😂
Fairfield CA has an old, not remodeled one! It’s closing, which was just announced a few days ago :(
NOOOO 😭😭
46 seconds of magic was a thing they introduced and it was basically you should talk to every guest for at least 46 seconds
That store is in Portland Oregon I used to go there it was so fun there are characters and drawings and movies and a lot of stuffed animals whole piles of stuffed animals. It is always crowded screaming kids
RIP the Disney store 😭
The character you asked what character that is, it’s Ed the hyena from lion king
You got it!!
My local mall used to have an old school Disney Store, it was one of the locations that got remodeled into a modern-day Disney store.
I wish these stores were still around
Mirrored glass doors , one old disney shop in uk now like this shop but sell home access , basicly same as this but creepy and fun to
Nice!
😁😅😏🙁😖🥺😢😭😭
???
I’m so sad that Disney stores are gone
I’m still on the hunt looking for old school Disney Stores like those. We had two in my town with this design and since then they been remodel to newer designs. But I used to collect the beanbags they had
The old school stores were awesome!!! I collected the bean bags as well
It’s the character from the lion king. It is the hyenna.
You got it 😃
Wow. This brought back memories. I used to take my kids to the Disney store in Fairfield, CA.
Your at the old Square one store
There’s a reason I blurred out the store name and didn’t say where it was 🤔
This video was cool, and sad at the same time.
Thanks!
If I found an abandoned Disney store I'd look for free Disney store
hi ben its me
Magic Moon hi it’s me Ben
Ben Laurence yello im from the toys r us video remember?
Of course I remember 😃
Disney Stores we’re really cool when I was little. I know there’s still around somewhere.
I remember how cool it was
Omg is this the square one mall?
Sorry it is not
The character you didn't know that was on the white board was Ed, one of the hyenas in Lion King
You got it :) I’d why I couldn’t tell that was him lol I think I was just looking at a weird angle. Believe it or not the characters were drawn actually on the wall
Spider Ham 🤣
😂😂😂
Nice video Ben! You had to have known someone that works there or had some serious permission to walk around otherwise I don't think they would let you do that. lol
Thanks man! Lol I have some super secret inside sources that hook it up with places like this haha
I think the little white hippo plushie that was hanging around at 5:26 kinda looked like snorkmaiden from the moomins or am I just tripping?
I miss the Disney stores I wish it I’ll reopen :(
Same
I went to Disney 3 times did you ever get to meet Cinderella? I didn’t she’s a tough one
I use to live in Florida and would go to the parks all the time
One of the hyenas from the lion king I think it was Ed
I would have loved to see those Disney stores I love Disney
it was one of the bad guy that work for scar from the loin king
You got it, it was Ed from the lion king

tRiPpY not late at all :) you can watch my videos when ever you have the time!
Ok

I wish they didn’t close these stores!!
So did the store owner just let you go back there or something!?
I can not reveal my secrets ;)
I’m guessing hilary duff you had a huge crush on her
Still do lol
