    This feels so much older than 1999

      It looks about right. I joined the Disney Store in 1995 and my custume was the one just before this one, and I know I wrote that previous costume for a few years.

      Actually was filmed in 1996 at the Del Amo Mall. I am in this! Worked for the Disney Stores at the time.

      @@Malabar190 I’m only in the background on one of the shots in this one. The other one we filmed at Del Amo was the MAGIC video. I had a bigger part in that one.

      @@User-sb6er Your memory may be a little off, since we can clearly see the Bugs Life stuff in the background and it came out in 98. It might have been filmed in 97 at the earliest, but certainly they wouldn't have been promoting a film two years in advance.

      @@Snuzzledwell I’m not sure. According to what I googled, “A bugs life” started production in 1995 before “Toy Story” even came out. So, again, I’m not sure but it may be possible.

    How about they show the real store. The lone employee on shift (making minimum wage, MUCH less than the cost of that t-shirt they want you to protect) has to run the register, while also stocking the shelves, while also straightening up the merchandise, while also answering the phone, while also helping the 25 customers in the store.

      If I'm making less that the merchandise I have to protect, I wouldn't stop anybody. Clearly they don't value you as an employee, or a human being to pay you a livable wage. They value their merchandise more.

    This was back when people had money to shop at stores like this. Nowadays half the store is discounted because they can't get rid of inventory. Internet shopping wasn't really a common thing quite yet. Most people weren't online yet. And out of those who were, most weren't using e-commerce sites.

      And especially when shoplifting was such a rarity. Haphazard reforms to criminal bail, raising of the threshold of when shoplifting becomes felonious, and of course, over-regulation on how stores can offer a means of the customer conveying their goods out of the store just to appease ecozealots who should be focusing more on strengthening anti-littering laws, has also contributed to the decline.

    Imagine trying to convey to minimum wage employees the importance of reducing theft for a multibillion company like Disney. 😂 Why would a guy steal a single set of barrettes anyway?

  • @Jopo1226
    @Jopo1226 Рік тому +1

    9:37 just get rid of the discount then...I mean I doubt most people working for this store could afford this stuff. They probably couldn't afford rent and groceries let alone high marked up merchandise. This is why I hate retail. I worked at Home Depot around 14 years ago and rung up 25K in merchandise a day resulting in 125K a week and only saw 400 dollars a week. 325 after taxes.

    The blatant gaslighting in this video is insane. They tell you to stalk the guests assume that every single guest is a shoplifter. But at 4:59 she says never accuse a guest of stealing.

      That's because Disney CMs still have to maintain the friendliness they're renowned for, even in situations where there someone might be suspect. Else it would be seen as unbecoming of someone who is supposed to represent the Disney brand.

    Look at the size of those computers that the back office was using and really writing a check for a purchase.... Is this back in the '80s? Good video though.

      Modularised tills with backends were introduced in many stores throughout the late 80s-early 90s. The Disney Stores in their heyday specifically used the IBM 4683 (later 4694 onwards) system with a token ring network and an AS series server. Checks were normal back then, as credit cards were still the reserve of the more affluent, and debit card acceptance had yet to become more widespread, especially since not all were part of card networks. Nowadays, of course, we have EMV cards and contactless.
