You have to check out two malls on Long Island, The Mall at the Source and Sun Vet Mall. The Mall at the Source is being redeveloped but it's delayed so you have some time to visit. Sun Vet Mall just lost their last anchor store AC Moore (they used to have a Toys R Us and Pathmark, both closed during their bankruptcies).
@@BenLaurence The Sunrise Mall was once almost as popular as Roosevelt Field, in the 70s and 80s, now it's a near-derelict mall. It's lost all of its major anchors over the past 10 years or under. I've been back here multiple times in the last year. It's completely gone now, they started tearing it down last winter. It's literally a flat wasteland now. So sad, this place was my childhood. I had my first ever date there.
A little late to the party but I too have fond memories of Silver City. They used to have large card shows back in late 90s and early 2000s. I would take my boys and would always come home with some items purchased from the card vendors. The dealers would be from all over East coast so always found a rare item or 2. And now it’s been returned to nature like most of the malls in this country.
I’m a resident of Taunton and without the mall it has seriously impacted my trips to the movie theater now have to go 30-40 minutes away from taunton to go to a suitable theater
3:22 the left wall of blue and tan tiles used to be Best Buy. Notice how many store divisions were combined to make enough space for that store? Can't miss it, I'd recognize it anywhere
Teachers retirement system of Illinois is basically a pension fund for educators, administrators, etc. They invest in property and what not to fund it. We have it in Texas too.
@@BenLaurence Being a member of the TRSIL now I see why we are getting 6%+ annual return... they are investing in dead malls 😂 I live near a dead mall called "charlestowne mall".... I think your example looks better than ours... ( you can search here on YT "charlestowne mall st charles il" you can see what it looks like).
Well I guess bye bye pension for those teachers which is sad. Bht it makes sense that a group of teachers get together and decide to invest money that's just sitting there
In the 90s and early 2000s, you couldn't find a place to park. Always came here for Ruby Tuesday's as well, in addition to mini golf and the pet store!
I used to love this mall as a kid. Sad to see it go. The South Shore plaza has had shootings and fights but people are still going there. I wonder why? The man who killed those innocent people had psychiatric issues, he didn’t take his medications and he told doctors he felt suicidal and they still released him. Sad that those people were at the wrong place at the wrong time. And they demolished the mall the beginning of this month.
They used to have a little bungie jumping thing there that I did a couple times as a kid. Good times. Gonna miss Sarku and Orange Julius. Taunton doesn't really have a lot of good fast food.
I discovered this mall about two year's ago. And it had the most impressive arcade i've ever seen. When i first walked around, i already knew the mall was going to die. I took my son here, and he loved the indoor kids fun place. I felt so bad for him when we last visited, and noticed the mall was closed down. It had a gundam store, track 23, a boxing spot, a movie theater, a knife store which that fucker who stabbed everyone, i would of had a machete on the ready. Though, at the time i wasn't aware of that. When i noticed how much change was happening around the world, and how difficult it was to find arcades, i was looking for a mall that had it all. When i discovered this mall, it was like a shocker to me. I've never seen a mall that had everything. I planned to visit many times with my friend. We've talked about it. And to find out it's no longer up, upsets me. The one place that had everything to my liking, that i can afford, and i haven't had enough time to really make my mark. I wasn't ready. I wished i had discovered this place sooner. Other malls just aren't the same as this one was. It had it all man, it had it all. Now to find another location like this, is going to be practically impossible. I wonder if any malls out here will survive. I heard square one mall isn't doing so good. That's where my ex works. I heard they were going to bring bonkers to that mall for the kids. Since they tore down bonkers at it's original location. Which, i enjoyed bringing my son to. He loved it. Again, that never ended up being the case. Cambridge side Galleria mall doesn't have the spark it once had. Braintree galleria mall is about as good as it gets, but nothing compared to this. Burlington mall is too rich for my blood. Copley mall, you can't even shop their anymore, it's way too high end. Which, is extremely close to me btw. I can get their within walking distance, in about a few minutes. But that mall has nothing much going for it. All of these malls and stores are showing signs of decline. I honestly feel there's just nothing else left for me in Massachusetts anymore, and that my time here has reached the end. I feel the need to move elsewhere, possibly out of the country or something. Everytime i find an amazing place, it never seems to stay for long before that too comes to an end. Now with covid, it sealed the fate of whatever was already dying down, but at a much quicker pace. Well, it's off to see what else is out their, i guess. If anyone finds anything of interest, let me know.
I agree. I worked at this mall 2002-2004. It was still busy. I just went to Round One tonight on 1/16/2021. Round One is closing their doors tomorrow. Sad. The cranes are already there to demolish this place. My kids were like we remember Camp Bucky at the food court, the trampolines. So many memories. The World is definately changing.
@@lisavieira5678 It's very upsetting to see a once thriving place you used to enjoy and have find memories of, or a place you recently discovered and plan to visit time and time again, only for said place to be torn down permanently. No renovations. Not a wall torn down to extend the building. Not to build it better. But completely wiped out from existence forever. It leaves a void on your soul. Like losing a pet, close friend, or family member almost. It's a part of your history. A long chapter coming to a close. Maybe i don't exactly feel that way with Silver city. But definitely with many other area's i've been to that are no longer around. Or the same. Or have been tainted in some way. It's just a part of life we'll have to accept and keep moving.
So sad to know this mall will be demolished. Ive gone there since it opened and had sooooo many memories there. In the year 1993 when I first went there, I used to go to Sam Goody. Spencers was on the first floor right next to The Wall music store. When Spencers moved upstairs, the wall that separated Spencers and The Wall was ripped down and was later used for F.Y.E. Suncoast used to be on the first floor right outside the JC Penny enterance in the mall. In 2001, Suncoast moved upstairs near the Bertucci's. I will miss walking in the mall enterance where Ruby Tuesday was on the left and The Ground Round was on the right. I used to go to the Hallmark store and KB Toys all the time from 2001 to 2009. Hallmark closed around 2013. There was a sports store that was a few doors down to a pet shop that was across from The Wall. Yankee Candle was on the 2nd floor just down the hall from the movie theater. But in 2014, Yankee Candle moved down the hall to a new location and Regal Theater took over Yankee Candle old location by tearing it down and expanding Regal theater. I will miss this place as my memorable years were from 1999 until it closed in 2020.
I live right down the street from the mall. I remember coming here lots of times with my dad to go to Sears, and ths disney store. I also live down the street from the house where the woman was stabbed. Btw, I love your vids Ben! I'll keep you posted about the mall if you'd like?
I remember when this mall opened up. JC Penny was one of the big anchors as well as Lechmere (Round1/Dicks). It was the one mall that had a Cinnebon and the mall really started its demise when Cinnebon left the mall. Its sad as the mall was very very busy but the state of shopping malls nowadays is on a spiral downward path to death.
I very much remember the rock wall and the trampolines. I was obsessed with the rock wall and managed to ring the bell on every difficulty by the end of its time there. I'd go to Waldenbooks with my dad, pick up a new manga, and then climb the rock wall every Friday. When I got older my friends and I would go to the mall like every weekend. Our parents would all give us $20 and we'd wall around, get food, and probably buy something at hot topic.
6:50 I remember when I was little, probably the first time I ever came to this mall, and the Aladdin characters were all hanging out and putting on a show in the middle of the mall. This was probably '96 or '97. I got some kind of memorabilia from this day but I have no idea what exactly it was or where it is now.
Had no idea about the attack here. I mostly remember this mall because of the Disney Store, not sure what it was actually called. I used to go there all the time as a kid, just to look at everything over and over.
Bourbon Street Grille was wicked good, and cheap. My favourite genre of mall food court restaurant is Louisiana-themed Chinese takeaway. There's still one at Providence Place which isn't going anywhere, but it's a bit much to drive to downtown Providence and pay to park just for some bourbon chicken, spicy potatoes and fried rice.
I practically grew up in this mall I loved it it was my favorite place kinda pissed that they got rid of it so many of us from this area it was our go to hang out spot but lots of fights happened at the taunton silver city galleria mainly beef between brockton and taunton but as for me and my friends we had the best times there
What a shame that mall is pretty much dead. I often went there as a kid in the 1990s, back when it was brand new and malls were still trending. The video arcade was a lot of fun! Now I work at an electronics recycling and reselling warehouse close to the mall. I'm almost tempted to drive over there during one of my lunch breaks or after I punch out to see its' sad state for myself.
I loved this mall. I used to go there almost every day, blast music in my headphones as an emo and walk around from like 11 am till close. I went to the movie theater once with my first boyfriend, and a few years before, they had a bouncy thing in the middle of the mall where you could get strapped in and do flips and such. I met so many people there, and honestly it made me almost emotional thinking about my memories there as you walked through. I will always remember that mall and it's such a huge part of my past. 🥺💔
I worked at The Picture People (right near Macy’s on the second floor) for a few years and was actually scheduled to be working alone the night of the incident at Burtucci’s but I traded shifts with another manager. I believe the mall is completely demolished now or very close to it.
I now live in Texas but from Taunton Massachusetts and I used to live in this mall, this broke my heart to see this, I mean I met my girlfriend in this mall, man i cant believe this, this mall used to be booming and you couldnt find a free parking space. Wow!
Omg I remember the trampoline on the bottom floor. Just heard that even round 1 is closing? Wtf. I'm from rhode island and this is my favorite mall to go to. So sad...
I worked at the metro PCS when the guy rampaged the mall. He ran from Macy’s, into Metro PCS and tackled me behind the counter. I was able to fight him off..he ran out of the store and then to bertuccis next door.
@@BenLaurence It was my second day after being promoted to store manager of that location. Oddly enough we actually did very well at that location in the immediate aftermath. I’m sure it has no connection to the event. Every day some of the other stores owners (A lot of the places in this mall were mom and pop shops) would come by and we would chat. The event definitely brought the community in the mall a bit closer
6:36 the 2 food booths used to be a dunkin donuts and a dairy queen 7:56 that semi truck in the bottem right hand corner of the screen is actually a driveable gas powered go cart that was sitting in the window of that store forever, i always wanted to rip that thing 8:23 that store was a jcpenny
This mall WAS the place to hang out on Friday and Saturday nights back in the 90s and early 00s, it used to be always packed. Sad to see what happened to the mall.
So sad! So many memories this mall held for me. This place put another mall out & yet Providence Place was the first shot Silver City took. That’s really strange about the teachers of Illinois. There was even a pet store in that mall that actually had puppies! Just imagine the amount of tomfoolery you could get up to bc of some jerk off running around assaulting ppl. So sad.
The day the stabbing happened i was there and I literally walked right by the Bertucci’s an hour before it happened. I was so lucky to have avoided that crazy situation. When I found out I was horrified
Wow!!! my home town, the other mall was my hang out when i was a kid, then the big mall came along, its no longer there anymore, sad. hey i know that cop that was standing there, lol!!!!
Ben Laurence 6:42 that’s because they came from the Disney Store which was on the second floor. And On an interesting note, when space jam came out in 1996, they did a similar thing in center court with looney tunes characters which was bugs bunny and the gang.
@@BenLaurence it was employees in costumes. As for the Looney Tunes characters that went to center court to take pictures To promote Space Jam in 1996, those where employees from Hoyt’s Cinema also on the 2nd floor, which later became Regal cinemas in 2003.
A pension fund (teacher's retirement fund an example) invests in entities that could make the money pot grow. These funds buys investments in the stock market, bonds, treasuries, properties to do whatever it takes to increase the returns of the fund. Hence, why a teacher's pension fund invested in the Silver City Galleria mall.
I live nearby. So i know about the demolition in a few weeks. I went to the mall today so go around it qnd take pictures. I was a Mass resident but Silver Ciry Galleria was kind of out of the way for me. I only there 2, maybe 3 times. The mall was decent but I really don't have any fond memories. My malls were Swansea Mall and Emerald Square Mall.
The best part of the mall was the food and my family would go there a couple or more times a week for Chinese food, Pizza, Burgers, Sandwiches, Italian food. etc.
The mall will be demolished as of February 15th., this year. I fear that with the Brockton Best Buy leaving due to the high rent on the 27th, that WestGate Mall of Brockton, MA will suffer a similar fate. Then again, Bloomington and Planet Fitness is there, fairly recent. Unless Toys R Us decides to put in a new location where Best Buy OR Sears will eventually leave, I might have one less reason for walking a moderate distance. I might have to up my walking distance a bit more, by walking from my place to the Stoughton Line, since there's no GameStop at the WestGate Mall.
As far as the Teacher’s Retirement fund of Illinois goes, my best guess is that they invested in an equity partnership and used the cash flow generated from the mall to fund their pension/retirement fund. A lot of pension funds prefer to allocate equities which prioritize high dividend payouts instead of long term capital growth. The acquisition of equity in the mall allows them to capture consistent profit over time, and it was probably sold to them by a larger investment bank which brokered the sale of the mall. The Illinois thing… makes no sense lol.
I can’t believe these horrible events happened here 😞

Nice video i do remember u saying that the Hanover Mall had foutins that would spray water along with ramps u can walk along i do remember a mall like that with foutins in the center of the mall but i think im thinking of the old Harbor Light mall that was in Hingham MA were Lowe's is now where Bonkers usto be
Thanks George! I don’t know much about the Hanover mall fountain, must have been a different video. I don’t remember the harbor light mall but now I want to do some research on it 🤔
@@BenLaurence Harbor Light mall has been gone for years
7:07 there was a Disney store upstairs !!!
3 years later I’m still missing this mall… 😔
I’m a resident of Taunton and without the mall it has seriously impacted my trips to the movie theater now have to go 30-40 minutes away from taunton to go to a suitable theater
Damn Ben, nice job on this video
Thank you!
3:22 the left wall of blue and tan tiles used to be Best Buy. Notice how many store divisions were combined to make enough space for that store? Can't miss it, I'd recognize it anywhere
Nice!
Mickey and his friends were probably at the mall because of the Disney store
Teachers retirement system of Illinois is basically a pension fund for educators, administrators, etc. They invest in property and what not to fund it. We have it in Texas too.
Ok that makes sense lol. Thank you for clearing that up
@@BenLaurence Being a member of the TRSIL now I see why we are getting 6%+ annual return... they are investing in dead malls 😂
I live near a dead mall called "charlestowne mall"....
Visit emerald square Mall that mall is dead
They used to have a little bungie jumping thing there that I did a couple times as a kid. Good times.
Gonna miss Sarku and Orange Julius. Taunton doesn't really have a lot of good fast food.
Definitely going to miss this place
@@lisavieira5678
It's very upsetting to see a once thriving place you used to enjoy and have find memories of, or a place you recently discovered and plan to visit time and time again, only for said place to be torn down permanently.
Correction: Yankee Candle moved to its new location in 2016
Me too
I live right down the street from the mall. I remember coming here lots of times with my dad to go to Sears, and ths disney store. I also live down the street from the house where the woman was stabbed. Btw, I love your vids Ben! I'll keep you posted about the mall if you'd like?
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed the video! Definitely keep us posted :)
Rip Cinnabon!!! Sad that malls are going down. I still love checking out malls, reminds me of the good ol days
Ugh I miss Cinnabon’s
That’s sick, I didn’t know they did that.. I remember something similar when Jungle Book 2 was released
Check out steplegate mall in New Hampshire. It used to be popping in the 90s. I think it is in concord
A friend of mine drove up the escalader on his dirt bike it was awesome.great place to ride when it was closed down lol
I remember getting lost in the Disney store in like 2005 haha… the bungee jumping was wild always wanted to do that…
The Disney store was so cool!! I remember doing that bungee jumping thing one time and one time only, I felt like my life was complete after that 🤣🤣
I practically grew up in this mall I loved it it was my favorite place kinda pissed that they got rid of it so many of us from this area it was our go to hang out spot but lots of fights happened at the taunton silver city galleria mainly beef between brockton and taunton but as for me and my friends we had the best times there
Thanks for making this video bud.
Great video my guy! Ballad of The Bizkit music video was shot here. I guess time changes everything

I remember going to this mall all the time. There used to be a carnival In the parking lot that I loved.
I don’t remember that 🤔
How can u not remember the carnivals they’ve had literally almost every year
Oh my gosh yes!! Those carnivals were the best! You could get an unlimited use bracelet for $20 (I think) and have so much fun all day!
I can’t believe this place closed... electronics reselling 🤔 do you ever get old camera parts?
I loved this mall. I used to go there almost every day, blast music in my headphones as an emo and walk around from like 11 am till close. I went to the movie theater once with my first boyfriend, and a few years before, they had a bouncy thing in the middle of the mall where you could get strapped in and do flips and such. I met so many people there, and honestly it made me almost emotional thinking about my memories there as you walked through. I will always remember that mall and it's such a huge part of my past. 🥺💔
Yes! The bungee jumping spot! Boy do I miss that. It was the only time I could do a flip!
@@mylesdias8453 that was the besttt part of the mall back then.
Wow!
So many memories in that mall from Christmas to Easter will miss that

Yeah the giant window was cool
How do you get it

OHHHH! I remember the Disney store in that mall. Along w Conempo, Gadzooks, the merry go round
I worked my first job during high school/college at this mall from 2002 to 2011 at H&M that used to be at the 2:27 mark 😩😢
That’s crazy! Must be weird seeing it like that now
@@BenLaurence totally. it def all went down after the recession in 2008 and then that killing spree put the nail in the coffin.
I worked at the metro PCS when the guy rampaged the mall. He ran from Macy’s, into Metro PCS and tackled me behind the counter. I was able to fight him off..he ran out of the store and then to bertuccis next door.
Damn! If true, that’s crazy!!
6:36 the 2 food booths used to be a dunkin donuts and a dairy queen
7:56 that semi truck in the bottem right hand corner of the screen is actually a driveable gas powered go cart that was sitting in the window of that store forever, i always wanted to rip that thing
8:23 that store was a jcpenny

Getting knocked down this week.

This mall WAS the place to hang out on Friday and Saturday nights back in the 90s and early 00s, it used to be always packed. Sad to see what happened to the mall.
I bet this place was awesome back in the day! I know my local mall was. Damn shame what happened
I sat in those ruby Tuesday chairs in the year 2000 on the bottom floor corner with the wood windows...
I grew up in Taunton Massachusetts i went there on opening day when they opened this mall waiting in a huge line of cars up the highway
Damn that’s crazy!
I didn't realize it was dead. I remember delivering the windows there when the construction was going on...
Wait this mall is being closed down? That's depressing. It used to be a great mall! Wow this is pretty shocking
Oh yeah it’s closed now
Does anyone remember the old store on 2cd foor where you could by Movie prints and Hollywood memorabilia? Like original theatre posters and stuff.
I vaguely remember that
This is the only mall near me. I was so sad when it shut down😭
Can’t believe it closed 😭
On their wiki page it says that the mall did close on February 29. Rip😞
I saw that but I don’t know if that’s true. The rumored closing date was February 29 but I don’t know if the mall is actually closed now
Wow!!! my home town, the other mall was my hang out when i was a kid, then the big mall came along, its no longer there anymore, sad. hey i know that cop that was standing there, lol!!!!
Ben Laurence 6:42 that’s because they came from the Disney Store which was on the second floor. And On an interesting note, when space jam came out in 1996, they did a similar thing in center court with looney tunes characters which was bugs bunny and the gang.
The stores didn’t have costumes at them but maybe they were shipped in for an event
@@BenLaurence it was employees in costumes. As for the Looney Tunes characters that went to center court to take pictures To promote Space Jam in 1996, those where employees from Hoyt’s Cinema also on the 2nd floor, which later became Regal cinemas in 2003.
@@BenLaurence On another note, sometime when, i can't remember when it was, they even had star wars characters in center court.
Eat your heart out Dan Bell, here is the real Dead Mall King, Ben Laurence
Lol thanks Mark!!! I just discovered Dan Bell’s channel and I think he as the crown.... for now ;)
I live nearby.
Can’t believe this place is getting torn down 😭
Discovered the place because of Gundam Pros, I was wondering why the place looked so empty.
Gundam Pros was awesome!!
Always one nutbar that always ruins the mall with a crime spree.
Yeah I can’t believe this one though, he had some serious screws loose!
I loved Round 1 😭😭😭😭😭
That place was sick!
The best part of the mall was the food and my family would go there a couple or more times a week for Chinese food, Pizza, Burgers, Sandwiches, Italian food. etc.
I loved going down to Ruby Tuesday’s then hitting up the Disney store!
Is sears still alive in Westgate?
@@markb1295 I think so, but I don't know for sure.
@@markb1295 it's closing now
As far as the Teacher’s Retirement fund of Illinois goes, my best guess is that they invested in an equity partnership and used the cash flow generated from the mall to fund their pension/retirement fund.
It's a $66B pension fund managed by a massive investment team.
