About a year ago I watched this video for the first time, and was a bit disappointed because they spent so much time showing the destruction of the town, and not enough MacAskill magic. Now, a year later I watch it again and reach the understanding that Danny is just the focal point, the excuse for making a video that is vastly greater than some impossibly talented guy doing tricks on a bicycle. The cinematography, the music, the flow of the riding all lends a poignancy, a sadness that brings tears to my eye. Even without Danny MacAskill this would be a magnificent video.
I grew up in a small town 60 km west from here. Epecuen was our childhood holiday reasort, especially in the summer time. I could recognize the promenade along the lake coast, and the big public pool, with the stone banches and the showers. Difficult to believe, once this place was full of life (at the sixties and seventies). Day life and night life, restaurants and gift shops with regional products, thermal hotels with sauna and music shows, places for picnic and camping along the road between Epecuen and Carhue (the next town 10 km away) with the famous mysterious exotic castle at the side of the road (we always expected to see and visit it as children), and the nationally well known therapeutic water and the mud!!! Then the flood came, and everything was lost under the salty water. Many years passed, it was an eternity. We forgot the city and lost hope. Even ghosts did not remain. The pain was hidden inside. Today, to my surprise, I saw this city again, emerging and reborn from my past, from the water and the salt. Twenty thousands km away from there, abroad, where I live now. Through this beautiful high quality video, music and performance, I could join again present and past, joy and pain, beauty and death, sadness and hope, shadowed trees and crystal salts burning at sunset. Maybe one day, like a fenix, this silenced city made of salt will be rebuilt for the joy of new generations,,,,,but nothing will be the same, as it was at "sixties", with my grandmother there drinking "mate", covering her head and taking a bath. Thanks very much.
Incredible story. Feeling sry for you! 😩 i will visit this town once in my life to see and feel this place. Must be really beautiful. But even it is not the place as before - memories can never die.
Danny, this video brought tears to my eyes....I used to go to Epecuen with my grandparents for our summer vacation when I was a kid.....I used to swim in the lake and in those pools you rode in this video, I can't believe Epecuen it's gone.....thanks for putting it on the map again.
QPD EPECUEN.
Beautiful footage, perfect blend of music, and unheard of riding skills. Parkour is impressive enough in itself...then you see Danny do it on a bike. Unbelievable.
Epecuen used to be an important turistic center in Argentina until in 1985 the water destroyed everything arround the city. The old man in the begining is the only person who didn’t leave his town. Amazing video
Hello Danny from Argentina thanks to you and red bull for coming to make this video that apart from showing your undeniable skill, recalls the story of ordinary people who suffered the disaster, people who had to get started a new life with nothing, and today is honored with this video, people represented with the old man of principle, who has a wound that never heals. sorry for my English!
There's just so much emotion on this video. Imagined how beautiful this place back in the day before the rain in 1985. 😍😢 Thank you for making and sharing this one.
This morning it dawned on me that endeavors like this are a part of the surviving progression of the X games and the body of athletes and works around them that used to be widely popular and on network broadcast tv every Saturday and Sunday across the 90s and early 2000s I grew up on and in, but that kind of died and disappeared from the general public's eye again(video games franchises surviving as well being an exception) and I almost cried watching this. This might not be the most effective means of putting this message out, but speaking from the street and for myself, you guys might not know how deeply your support of these things is felt and how important it is to some of us. Geez I'm tearing up, so thank you Red Bull team, for things like this.
I remember those BMX, skates and cycling videos too and looking at Danny i wonder where they all went. Their volume on youtube seems miniscule now compared to the airtime they got 20 years back on limited channels.
The mtb film legacy this man leaves behind is priceless. His short films are complete stories of life, the way no other mtb films are made... maybe Life Cycles could compare.
At first, I wondered what a biker could possibly do riding on ruins like these. Well, Danny has opened my eyes! Absolutely amazing riding! Imagine having a bike be an extension of your body, where you can control it so well!
MacAskill trial rides across the silt and ruins with skills that seem to travel in a gravity defying bubble as he jumps fences, climbs trees, and rides over roof top to roof top. Exquisite, lyrically filmed and riden. Thank you for this visual exploration from a disabled cyclist with reawoken memories of riding.
Today, January 22 of 2024, Pablo Novak, the man at the beggining of the video and last inhabitant of Epecuén, died at the age of 93 years old. Rest in peace, hero.
It kinda makes me feel sad to see this deserted, fallen dead city.... To know there was a time when people lived there, roaming the streets.... A time where kids played in the playground.. It just gives me a sad, empty feeling.
Man, there's nothing better than watching someone do what they were born to do. The skill is obviously off the chart but, the vision to see and create lines in a place full of busted concrete, bricks slippy rubble and rusty rebar..then figure a way to trick a feature most would find difficult to navigate on foot. I mean its seems more like it should be a level on a video game. Truly a privilege having his videos to watch at my leisure. I can honestly say, I'm literally never bored. TY
I'll be honest, the beginning of this video put me in tears immediately talking about what happened here... It is so depressing seeing nature take place and ruin stuff on such a mass scale. It is somewhat disgracing riding on what use to be some's homes that are most likely buried within this torn city... I'm no hater, trials is amazing, I do bmx biking freestyle, street, parkstyle, dirt, all it but just wow... Still forever live Epecuén #Epecuén
This video reminds me that time is fleeting. Nothing lasts forever. That fact adds beauty and sadness to our short existence here. Every experience is borrowed and it will be returned to nature in the end. I sometimes feel sad that I can’t hold it all forever but then realise any sadness I feel is a borrowed feeling too and nothing truly belongs to us
"This is my home, forgotten by time after reemerging from the depths of water..." "I'mma bike all over it." "What." "I wanna ride on it." "Danny no" "I'mma do it yololo" "Danny pls"
As always, love to see Danny going on about doing magic in places like these - it brings life. Camera team, support crew and Danny, what a great combination.
I used to have a math teacher who would show us random videos that had absolutely nothing to do with math. We’d just sit and watch videos he found cool and this is one of them. I still come back to this vid from time to time, great work.
Damn this video suddenly appeared in my recommendations, I remember watching it again and again as a kid and watching this now suddenly hit me with a wave of nostalgia that I simply can’t explain with words.
Wonderful, wonderful, Danny. The trix are astounding, but the flow... the rhythm... Never seen anything like it. This ain't bmx it's bike ballet. Thank you.
I love Danny. His videos take you to some of the most incredible places on Earth, and then he blows you away with talented, creative riding that is punctuated by the beauty of his surroundings.
when i was little i would look out the car window and imagine the kind of things that happen in this video and i never thought i would ever actually see anyone do it so to me that's real talent
I am so inspired! Thank you for who you are and showing us all what is possible in the world of bicycles and trials riding. You are truly one of a kind.
Te felicito y me imagino tu dolor😢
I wish everyone would stop hating this dude all because he can ride trials that good...he won't be crippled when he's 40...he will still be shredding the trials bike...and if anyone wants a bike like this there tarty bikes
Danny, Shaun, Travis, Felix, Toni... You know who I'm talking about by their first names. It's not just a can of pop, it's a culture of greatness. Coke and Pepsi can hire movie stars and singers to plug their crappy corn syrup. Red Bull has the real stars. Yeah. It's worth $4 a can.
+Hattz 24 You see how his seat is so low? Its so that he can squat as he hits the ground, dispersing the energy throughout his lower body, giving the bike time to move forward, carrying with it some of the energy from the impact.
+Hattz 24 I guess when you grow up doing this for so long, you start growing muscles in places the normal person wouldn't grow them.... and he slips off the side of the seat so he can scrunch down further when he lands...... Probably does a lot of leg workouts too
RBMH, always the best. Awesomely captured the desolation of the place and a perfect location for D MacAskill to show off his genius. Result ends up being a celebration of still managing to find the beauty in the starkness and emptiness in our lives.
About a year ago I watched this video for the first time, and was a bit disappointed because they spent so much time showing the destruction of the town, and not enough MacAskill magic. Nothing has been as good as way back home yet
not best tricks. But the place to ride more dangerous. Just look at the risk!

This video editing was freaking amazing, props to the director, camera crew and the stunt's man, who was also incredible
Red Bull, you never fail to impress!
no danny macaskill never fails to impress
tony stark but most people wouldn't know about him if it wasn't for red bull..
HowBzhR Danny would have been a big name anyways redbull doesnt provide raw talent just promote it.
TBF, Danny was famous before any involvement with Red Bull - his first video got millions of views without them :)
when i was little i would look out the car window and imagine the kind of things that happen in this video and i never thought i would ever actually see anyone do it so to me that's real talent

Parkour + bike = Danny. Amazing!

This is why i sometimes buy overpriced redbull. Because they do cool videos =)
Then the videos are working! ;)
+Dimitri T redbull cares about some nice sports!
The Red Bull isn't overpriced only the shops sell them so overpriced ^^
You just explained why I do that too, but could never put it into words.

Liked the video before I even watched it, seriously love his skill! So confident :p
He probably practiced for years

I am so inspired! Thank you for who you are and showing us all what is possible in the world of bicycles and trials riding. You are truly one of a kind.

Okay
I don't know why but i find this place so beautiful and quiet. Maybe because there aren't any people there !

Yeah that was only like 10 years ago lol, look how fast it has progressed. Same with many things in the world in the last decade
Freaking amazing!
.... and then there’s Danny MacAskill. Amazing.
Danny, Shaun, Travis, Felix, Toni... You know who I'm talking about by their first names. It's not just a can of pop, it's a culture of greatness. Coke and Pepsi can hire movie stars and singers to plug their crappy corn syrup. Red Bull has the real stars. Yeah. It's worth $4 a can.
yep, thanks Red Bull
Updated!
That is parkour with a freakin' bike! Awesome
Tell me about it, Mr. Creeper.
Look up bike parkour it's awesome. There is one video in particular that is insane
Ummm actually it's street trials not bike parkour
How can he do it so effortlessly? Genius.
How do his knees handle those drops with no suspension?
+Retarded Seagull que ondas
+Hattz 24 You see how his seat is so low? Its so that he can squat as he hits the ground, dispersing the energy throughout his lower body, giving the bike time to move forward, carrying with it some of the energy from the impact.
Yeah:))😂😂
+Hattz 24 I guess when you grow up doing this for so long, you start growing muscles in places the normal person wouldn't grow them.... and he slips off the side of the seat so he can scrunch down further when he lands...... Probably does a lot of leg workouts too
+Hattz 24 he is young,, few more years and hell let it go like Hans Rey
That last trick.... Mind-BLowing: Danny is simple the best in this business.
More from Danny...
I thought i was cool when i did a slide on my bike when i was younger, this dude is climbing trees with it
RBMH, always the best. Awesomely captured the desolation of the place and a perfect location for D MacAskill to show off his genius. Result ends up being a celebration of still managing to find the beauty in the starkness and emptiness in our lives.
