    A million thanks for this short and to the point video. My boiler was running with no problems with central heating but had absolutely no hot water. Tried exactly the 3 steps in the video and the last one fixed it! The loft tank very little water and had its controller ball stuck up not allowing water to fill in. I moved it a few times and got the water to fill in. Perhaps time to replace it entirely. Thanks again for your timely help! Best regards.

    We had out bathroom remodelled and before that, because the hot water wasn't working for a while, we got a plumber (different one than the company that fitted our new bathroom) to fix it and he replaced the element up the loft. It was only done in March and now we've no hot water again this week (end of October). We have a plumber from the company that put in our bathroom coming tomorrow to fix it. Surely it should have lasted much longer. When I was growing up, we never had a problem with hot water failing.

    Hi, watch all your videos and thank you for all your excellent and clearly presented plumbing advice. Have a strange problem with my hot water indirect cylinder not fully heating up. I've a F&E system, oil boiler, single zone for rads & hot water, no motorised valves, rads all boiling hot, hot water in cylinder had been boiling hot like rads but suddenly only heating up to mid temperature (too cold to shower) and needing boosting by my immersion heater. Boiler flow pipe to cylinder is boiling hot, boiler return pipe from cylinder is cold just as it leaves the cylinder and hot again after (about 8 inches from cylinder exit). Had been working perfectly and now this. Any ideas? Cheers.

    Hi again, I agree I have some form of blockage because when I undo the 28mm coil connection at the hot water tank the flow is very restricted. A friend of mine suggests the blockage cannot be cleared with cleaner, but says I should get a magnet and at the boiler end see if the magnet attaches to the copper pipe, he says a metalised build up and I will have to cut and remove/replace pipe, what are your thoughts on this, as the pipe at the boiler end are very restricted

    I cannot see a 3 way valve any where in the system, I have checked the pipes at the boiler and they are hot, but as I move away they become Luke warm to cold near the tank, I agree some sort of blockage or air must be in the system your thoughts please. Is it possible to have a system with no 3 way valve as mine seems to not have one

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  10 років тому

      Bren davies Yes Bren lots of systems have no 3 or 2 way valves, they rely on gravity to circulate. Fist thing to check is to go into the loft and check your small F and E tank is full, if not wiggle the ballvalve until water starts to flow into the tank, then clear all the air from the radiators, next if it is full, drain the system and add system cleaner run for a couple of days then drain out and add inhibitor, this should clear any blockage of sludge in the system. If after a week you still have no luck then you must have a blockage thats too severe even for the inhibitor to clear, thats when you start getting plumbers estimates.

      Hi Mike, sounds as if the motorised valve to the heating circuit is letting by when it is supposed to be off . Have a feel of the pipe just beyond the valve when the hot water is on to feel if it is getting hot, you will know then that the valve is defective. If not then you may heat convection where the upstairs rads grab some of the heat from the hot water circuit. This is a much more tricky problem to solve.Regards,Al.

    Hello. Our Boiler is running but there is no hot water or heating working. Ive checked the circulate pump and I have bleed air from it also. It seems like the heat from the boiler to the tank and pump is not reaching. The boiler fire becomes red after a while its switched so we manually switch it off, is the boiler Air locked? Our boiler is fitted in the chimney and the tank and pumps are across the room.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  10 років тому

      Bren davies Sounds as if you have a blockage of sludge on the flow or return from your 3 way valve, if you are sure the valve is working ok. Drain the system add cleaner then run for a week. Drain back down then add inhibitor.

    I have an indirect water heater, a low boy (Vaughn Top Performer). When the power goes out, even after the furnace comes back on the water heater doesn't work. This has happened several times. The plumber comes out and does something fairly quick, and then I have hot water again. Can the valve get stuck open? I woke up this morning with my oil boiler locked out so I reset it and it fired up, but I can’t seem to turn the hot water down using the thermostat on the tank, we tend to turn it down at night due to the noise of the system waking us up at night with floor boards creaking. I have traditonal system with boiler only and Emersion. Atleast I can turn emersion on temporarily. I have this probelm too frequently, 3rd body and syncro in 5 years!!, When I changed the 3 way valve body it has always worked again ok. I have changed the syncro motor prior to changing any body but this never resolved the problem with hot water, so as far as I can see the syncro appears always to be ok. I dont check with meters but.... Recently I changed my Thermostat on the side of the emersion heater as in this video thinking it could be a common fault, for a new one and still once again, no hot water. I have also changed again, the electric syncro and still only luke warm water. I am now about to change the 3 way Valve body (which is a much bigger job) again for the third time in 5 years, so hopefully this will do it. Cannot understand why, if it is the main problem, why these 3 ways bodies appear to fail so frequently. I dont have any problems with hot radiator central heating. Thanks for your great videos....perhaps you may have an opinion about my endless 3 way valve failures? One other question, Took Motorized valve off, checked it for turning with power on... it turns slowly but springs (clicks) back and starts again, is this correct?

    Hi greatly appreciate your video. I had a similar problem with the motorised valve being stuck open for heating. Could only get the boiler to turn off at the mains. No hot water. Replaced the valve and everything worked fine hot water and heating. But now for some reason the hot water won't always get hot / boiler doesn't kick in when I call for hot water even if I manually move the valve over. Can partially dry tanks or air locks prevent the boiler from even starting? Basically it works when it wants to. I've had it fixed a week and managed to get the hot water to work 2 days out of 7. Any help would be appreciated thanks

    Hi, so I’m experiencing this problem right now. I have heating but no hot water. On investigating I have 2 motorised Valves. When I pull either of the manual switches over the boiler clicks as if it’s about to start, then straight away stops. I’ve checked the hot water tank thermostat, it was set at 50, I turned it up to 60 but can’t hear any noise from it. Ive also checked the cold water tank in the loft. The water was a little low so held down the ballcock to top it up. All in all I’ve had no luck and any advice you could pass my way would be extremely grateful. Thanks for reading. Hope to hear back..

    Hi Al. Heating is fine. Hot water isn't being called. F&e fine. Thermostat on tank up high. Have taken off valve head to manually switch and no matter which way I turn, the hot water isn't being called. Surely this means it's not a faulty valve? If so, what else could it be? Thanks.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  5 років тому

      It is more than likely the small micro switch in the 3 way valve. Check by putting a spanner on the brass head of the valve and turning it.

      Heat should pass into the flow pipe to the hot water cylinder when set in the right direction. Do this test with the hot water switched on. If nothing happens then the paddle inside the valve is broken and you will need a new valve.

    Thank you for your videos which really help however I’m struggling to diagnose the lack of hot water and wondered if you had any suggestions. It’s a Honeywell system and originally I had hot water but no heating. I changed the 3-port motorised valve head and after this I had heating but no hot water. Even if I put the valve in the manual position I still get no hot water. Since I’ve tried many things in the hope of sorting it out. I’ve replaced the cylinder thermostat, I’ve changed the wiring unit, I’ve checked the attic and the water tank is full. The only thing I’ve not tried is replacing the whole valve rather than just the head but I’m doubtful this is the actual issue. I’m also not sure power is actually getting to the motorised valve but as I say I’ve replaced both the valve head and the wiring unit. Any suggestions will be really appreciated.
