I love all of your videos, Matthew, but this one answered so many questions I had regarding pocket holes! Thanks for all the inspiration you bring to this channel!
A most excellent video. I was trying to drill a 2X4 piece of wood into a 3/4 inch plywood. Learned that I need to set my pocket hole jig to the 3/4 inch setting. BTW, I also put a small hole through my jig just before watching your video. Dang! Thanks again.
Appreciated the details with the pocket screw tool. It’s been a great tool for some of my projects, but I’ve questioned the screw size after drilling. I enjoy following you.
I appreciate you making these back to the basic videos. I haven't done woodworking in 15 years. Now I have time I am starting to get back into it and of course still have to purchase tools too. Thanks again.
Thank you Matthew! Very informative video. Keep doing these. I think a lot of creators start off remembering what it's like to be new and then forget as they get more and more income. Most people searching UA-cam woodworking are needing knowledge. The pros are not your core audience. Thank you for recognizing this!
Hey Mr. Peech, I bought my fire kerg jig 30+ years ago and I’ve done my fair share of mistakes. But you showed me a few new ways to drill pocket holes.
Thanks for the informative video, Peech! I just bought a basic Kreg pocket hole jig and now I'm wishing I had invested the extra $$ into the 520. Maybe on Black Friday? The first few pocket holes I made were a hot mess, so this video helped immensely. I'll keep practicing on scrap wood till I get it right. 🔨 💃🏼
Thank you so much for that video. I have wanted to start using tools from Kreg and the pocket hole jig especially. Love watching all the projects that you make and all the information you put into them.

Thanks again for that !! I really already had a fixture for that but got schooled on the correct type of screws to use , thanks again!! Ok man I’m out , again glad to see you’re back !! Git it on !!!
Thank you Peech. Even though I've been using Creig Pockel Hole jigs and screws for years, I believe this video is for everyone. My question is what about the woodworkers using the entry level jigs that use the clamp to hold the jig to the wood? Those woodworkers may be the most benefited by your back to basics teaching videos. BUT KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK YOU ARE DOING. I'm trying to watch every video you have produced! Old dogs need taught something new or reminded of something we already knew.
It's always good to go back to the basics no matter how long you've done something to achieve anything brush up on something close to what you do on a daily basis to keep your skills sharp
Oh this was an awesome type of video. Hands on and TONS of examples demonstrating your topics with follow-up explanations. Add this type of series to your arsenal. Very effective!
I learned SO much from this video alone. From the types of screws to the way to use the pocket hole tool to begin with. Awesome Matt! Thanks for making these.
Thank you for doing a series on the basics. I had no idea how to use a pocket hole jig. Now i feel i can make more of your ideas, I have purchased plans that say to make pocket holes, but I didn't know how. Thank you so much! Love Your Videos!
Matt, I think that a back to basics series would be great especially if you include tips and tricks like running a countersink backwards to stop tear out in the begging and sliding your speed square up to the pencil to get a more accurate line.
Next to Norm and Tommy, I think I've learned more from Matthew lately than anyone else especially on pocket hole joinery. Thanks Matthew!! Much appreciated.
I don't know if I learn anything new but, you're a handsome man and you make great videos. I made a bunch of square plant pots last month. Thanks for the tips from them.
Thanks so much Matt ! I am moving on to another chapter in life. Hanging up the wrenches and giving up the grease from building cars and motorcycles ! Looking foward to starting a side gig with your smalls and intend to ween myself from punching a clock and punching put smalls from the garage ! I think I should have a good market on the west coast of Florida! Keep them coming ! My first couple of sales will be killer ! I plan on 3 picket planter for my first ! Downloading the plans this weekend!
Since covid my plan has to finally use some of the tools I have acquired over the years...my 'retirement dream'.. I think your idea of another series would be very helpful.
I just bought a Kreg 520 and after watching this I think I'll finally make it be more than a cool paperweight! Great video as usual and thanks for the tips and tricks.
This gives a clear description about the use of pocket holes. With this knowledge, it is possible to create projects with confidence that you are using the correct procedure. Well done.
New to the channel yours is one of the most helpful useful channels. There is out there it was a no brainer to subscribe. You definitely got me thinking. Been in the garage making stuff.😂👍😉
I'm not an experienced woodworker at all, but I'm pretty sure I spotted a 'mistake' at around @4:15. The direction of the screw should always point to the length of the material you're drilling into, not the shortest side. So in this case you would put the pocket holes on the other side of the material (and then fill them in with a dowel for aesthetics).
My son has taken an interest in woodworking recently. I've done a little, but I'm not particularly knowledgeable about it -- I'd love to learn more along with him. I love your channel and the way you teach, so I'm really excited about a 'back to basics' series. I hope there's enough interest to make it worth your while!
Awesome! I am fixing to build a toddler tower for my grand baby. I was stuck as how to put the pocket holes in the rear angled legs. Now, I know! Thanks again.
Please and thank you. We need more videos on basic woodworking skills. I’ve retired and built the woodworking shop I always wanted but I lack some of the skills. A big thank you for going past the marketing and get back to teaching.
Great video. EVERYBODY can use a review of the basics from time to time. I wish you had mentioned the advantages of clamping your peices firmly together when installing the screws to avoid misalignment due to the angle of the screw.
I'd love to see a back to the basics channel. That way little kids and I can feel comfortable with using tools. I only got 1 year of shop class before my school cut it, but I knew if I'd had even another year of it, I'd have gotten into the trades once I turned 18 and I'd have been making a heck of alot more money than I am now.
Armor Tool makes their Auto-jig pocket hole system. I traded my Kreg in when I saw that it automatically sets the pocket hole entrance height, thickness, the stop collar setting, and even has a handy chart for screw size and type which is color coded for the length of screw. It is by far the easiest pocket hole jig I've personally used. Armor designed out a lot of the issues I had with the Kreg.
I like this idea because I've never done actual wood working, and I always have to ask my boyfriend for help, but he doesn't always do things the way I would like it done. This gives me a reference library to go to. I hope you put it in a playlist so it will always be easy to find the series. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Those woodworkers may be the most benefited by your back to basics teaching videos. BUT KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK YOU ARE DOING. I'm trying to watch every video you have produced! Old dogs need taught something new or reminded of something we already knew.
You make it all so simple. Sometimes I just want to say “of course! Why didn’t I think of that!” Practical and clear advice.
It's always good to go back to the basics no matter how long you've done something to achieve anything brush up on something close to what you do on a daily basis to keep your skills sharp
Yes!
Great video! I’m a novice and this is the type of content I’m looking for.
Oh this was an awesome type of video. Hands on and TONS of examples demonstrating your topics with follow-up explanations. Add this type of series to your arsenal. Very effective!
Thank you!
I swear you answer every question I have
I learned SO much from this video alone. From the types of screws to the way to use the pocket hole tool to begin with. Awesome Matt! Thanks for making these.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for doing a series on the basics. I had no idea how to use a pocket hole jig. Now i feel i can make more of your ideas, I have purchased plans that say to make pocket holes, but I didn't know how. Thank you so much! Love Your Videos!
Glad to help! Thanks for the support.
Just found your channel a few weeks ago and have been watching lots of your videos. You do a great job of explaining things!!
I tend to like almost anything you do, so happy to watch & learn. thks from UK
Awesome! Thank you!
Very useful! Not only on how to use but also which jig will best fit my needs... thanks Peach ! Love your videos 👍
I just bought a Kreg 520 and after watching this I think I'll finally make it be more than a cool paperweight! Great video as usual and thanks for the tips and tricks.
Of course!
This gives a clear description about the use of pocket holes. With this knowledge, it is possible to create projects with confidence that you are using the correct procedure. Well done.
I would love for you to continue making videos like this, thank you!
Matt, that’s a very helpful video cause of screwed up a bunch of wood but not no one a lot of the things you covered. Thank you very much much
Of course!
New to the channel yours is one of the most helpful useful channels. There is out there it was a no brainer to subscribe. You definitely got me thinking. Been in the garage making stuff.😂👍😉
Thanks and welcome!
Your detail is always perfect...I appreciate you sir. Keep up the phenomenal tutorials!, thank you.
Thanks, will do!
Thank you, this was exactly what I needed to give me confidence for my pocket hole joinery.
My son has taken an interest in woodworking recently. I've done a little, but I'm not particularly knowledgeable about it -- I'd love to learn more along with him. I love your channel and the way you teach, so I'm really excited about a 'back to basics' series. I hope there's enough interest to make it worth your while!
I think a back to basics Playlist would be very helpful. I'm in 👋
Back to basics is a great idea. And pocket holes is a great starter
Thank you
Never used one. Seen them around for years on tv shows. Thanks ✌️
Great video. EVERYBODY can use a review of the basics from time to time. I wish you had mentioned the advantages of clamping your peices firmly together when installing the screws to avoid misalignment due to the angle of the screw.
As I just mentioned on the Kreg page, this is one of the best pokcet hole explanation video I have seen. Great work Matthew! New sub!
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for sharing your insights. I just started working with wood and you don't know how much help you have given me. God bless you, thank you.
Love this basic instruction video. Please make more like one on using dowel pins
Thanks for the suggestion
