Did you buy the classics? I have heard people complain about them but the AF1 is apparently better. But I have never tried them myself. But stick to Indys.
I tried ace classic 44’s. Way too turny for my liking. My indies feel stable, but still turn when i need it. Indies win for me! If i was more of a loose truck guy i could see the ace’s being great though.
Say what you want but ive never heard anyone mention either when they say "when i see someone with krux, i know the game of skate is about to be tough"
I just got a pair of 33s and i really love the trucks minus the stock bushings which i found really low quality. I had to swap my worn in bones cones to get a proper turning response. Other than that its a very nice feeling truck from a transition standpoint. carve grinds are so nice on them, although im expecting them to wear faster than thicker trucks like krux and indys.
I have tried a lot of trucks and skated indys for most of my time that I have skated (about 7 years). I tried out Thunders and they are a much more stable truck. I prefer them for my style of skating over the other big 2 (the big 3 is indy, venture, thunder) I can manual longer and find the sweet spot easier when I ollie or flip into a manual on a manny pad. I also have an easier time landing flip tricks with them. Only thing is they don't grind as good as an indy. especially on concrete ledges
When I first started skating I really loved Silvers because they had a cap on the nuts that would prevent the axel from wearing down quickly. Then I've been switching between Indy and Thunder. Curious to try Ace now 👀 thanks brotha!
Broke a kingpin on my 33 today :(. Put the hanger from the ace on a krux baseplate. It works but still too turny for me after squishing the bushings down to the max. No one wheel manuals for a while.
First of all congratulations, and secondly I really enjoyed your review on the Ace trucks. I've been curious about them for awhile now and now I'm definitely going to be trying a set. Thank you sir and I enjoy your videos
Are the ace really more turning / loose then the indies? I like loose trucks but can get the indies for an good price. Thx and nice regards from Germany 🤜🤛
Love my af1's dont think I will ever go back to independents. One thing I dont understand is why the af1 and classics change up the sizing yet use the same numbers on both trucks???
When I was skating, I had a couple of set-ups with Ace trucks. The principal argument was, of course,... 1. the dogmatic, "it isn't Indy..." and also... 2. It is just a re-engineered Indy stage II truck (which initially appealed to me because I preferred the aesthetics of the stage II, and stage II geometry is fine). 3. the old argument that the hangers would bend (they didn't). Ace makes good trucks. Indy makes good trucks.
I love my gold, Ace AF1 55s on my 8.5" Element Seal and my gold, Ace AF1 33s on my Alva OG#1. I have Indy 215s on my 10" pool deck but only because Ace doesn't make an '88' model for 10" boards. I never thought I'd switch from Indy but the Ace AF1s ride better!

@@ZackDowdy Really appreciate your videos AND def appreciate the fact you keep the bails in the videos - it helps to see how you bail and the way you get out of sticky situations just as much as the tricks you land. Thanks again!
If only Ace had their own aftermarket bushings. No other bushings properly fit the AF1s and the stock ones are so squirmy it’s incredible. As someone who weighs 210 pounds I was almost getting wheelbit just standing on them 😂.
Should anyone read this I’ve gotten the Ace Hard bushings and with them I’ve switched to AF1s and am loving them. Indie is a great truck but Ace AF1s just have that little more buttery turn. Ace is my new go to truck.
The Indy ad in November 1989 Thrasher featuring Christian Hosoi was the first time the slogan “I’d rather fight than switch was ran. It’s not a new slogan they came up with to take a stab at ace. It’s been around for over 30 years.
Dude it is so true that skate parks completely neglect flat ground these days. I can’t even go to the skate park to practice my tricks because there is no flat ground. You’re just gonna get run over by some hardo. I mean there’s not even like a 20 foot space to practice your flat ground tricks. It’s like you can only go there to rip transition and then basically leave. I see a trend where parks are abandoning literally any flat ground space in lieu of “flow”.....and its like word.... guess I’ll skate in my driveway or parking lot and get kicked out instead
Have you gone back to Indys? I was wondering why ACE doesn't make hollow trucks though ? I think I'm getting 169 forged hollows skating 159 standards now. Do you compare this ace to a standard Indy as far as weight ??
I skated indy for about an 10 years switched to thunders a couple years ago and never looked back. They grind way better And I don’t have to switch bushings out every time I buy a new pair like I did with indy
"I'd rather fight then switch" is an old independent truck saying from back in the day. I love venture and independent. Just depends on what kind of board or what type of skating I'm doing at the time. That being said I wouldn't mind giving ace a try.
Tracker B2 where my first trucks. They where the cheapest and they served me well. I think they are based on Indy🤷The axle came loose, the kingpin broke a few times, but I kept skating them. Then switched to independent. When I went up to 8.5 switched to thunders. The only thing they had in the shop back then. Switched back to independents because I like the way they turn. But to be honest I don't feel a lot of difference. Less wheelbite because of the height. Now I'm waiting on film trucks to arrive. First EU trucks, and I'm curious. Maybe try those?
Dude, for reals I have a nasty bruise on the inside of my knee that’s always super tender from the no comply tail slide demon haha I have some Indys 169s on my mss main setup that I just can’t get over, and I also have some ace 44s and thunders 145s I just rock them all for each set up, but I’d like to try some of the new AF1s in a 66 to really test my 169s loyalty
@@ZackDowdy got any idea what you want? classic 66s or the AF1 77s? Im debating wheels for my slappy setup now. I hear smaller is better but the streets are so crusty here its gonna be hell.

@@Cruzing808 cool, how long have you had the bones hard bushings in the af1's? The reason I ask is they can start bulging out of place when you install them in some other truck brands. Cheers
@@cabaiste I have run bones bushing on Ace classics for 7 years and on the new Af1’s for 4 months or however long they have been out. Of corse you take off bottom washer and your good to go.
I got Aces cuz u ride loose and heard they were carvy. The stock bushings are insanely hard, and trying to use shorter, normal bushings has been disastrous. Anyone else found Aces to be entirely not carvy and way too tight even with the bolt falling off? I even bought a new set of their bushings in case it was a fluke.
Yea bro same issue, that white stock bushing is garbage, use bones hardcore bushings that's what I did and it makes a big difference but yea I thought they would be carvy loose but no lol, they feel better a little tighter for more aggressive street skating, for more carvy skating the Indy 159s feel best for me even does Thunder 151s feel like they carve more, the only benefit I see with Ace trucks is that they so feel light and grind smooth.
Ace trucks, unlike Indys stage 11, turn like very old Indys. It's not everyone's taste but lately I enjoy extremely loose trucks with a sharp turning and for that Ace then Indys are the best I have tried. Let's see how long they last.
ace are wayy better. they are the same weight but ace have a better turning radius, and feel lighter due to slightly narrower wheelbase but makes the boards with longer wheel base feel lighter up front when you pop. wish they made a hollow light version!
So former Indy employee goes and tries to best Indy at its own game, by taking a Indy design from years ago and redesigning them. Ace may get some market share, there is no shame in being second best, and it can be quite lucrative. Edit: No hate to Ace, all good luck and vibes to them.
Off the shelf indy, if upgraded then Ace for me...The "white" stock bushing in the Ace truck is garbage, it started falling apart and getting binded almost right away I never had that issue with the "yellow" stock indy bushings, also the king pin in the Aces stick out, atleast for me(maybe I tighten more than other skaters) and get in the way for smooth grinds. So I didn't give up on them I put in some Bones hardcore bushings and got my grinder and took some material of the king pin and perfect!!!, they did feel better than my indys after mods, also don't know if it's in my head but the Aces feel lighter.
Out here the reason to switch to Ace trucks is simple: A set of ACE AF1 = ~70-80 A set of Indys = ~90-120 Same reason I don't ride Spitfire wheels, the prices are just insane.
Most trucks are pretty comparable, the only ones that really suck( but look cool af) were gullwing. Gullwing had that crappy Kingpin indentation that hangs up on everything. Not sure if you can get them anymore.
Ben is very opinionated and it seems his personal preference and style of really informs his reviews to the point of being kind of blind to all the different types of skating/skaters that are out there
I disagree about him being blind to other styles and types of skating. He mentions these type of things often in his videos. I think Ben has the best product reviews out there. He's super honest about everything and does side by side comparisons and switches between truck brands all the time.
Ace bushings are garbage for heavier riders. Split first day. I swapped them back for Indys w fresh bones bushings. I think the cost of the black takes away from quality somewhere else. I rode Tracker as a kid. Some retro memorabilia right there. Don't see them much these days.
AF1 77s are awesome. My son and I have a few sets of classics and they’re just better than Indys. Independent was good in the 80s but they’re just a hype-lifestyle brand today and their trucks aren’t awesome anymore. Ace are hands-down the best trucks I’ve skated since stepping onto a board back in the late 70s. An acquaintance of mine described them as the most stable loose trucks you’ll ever ride. It was stage 3 and I believe Joey is Raven’s uncle.
A title of 'The Truck Battle' in the thumbnail and the promise of detail..... You didn't even get close to actually describing the differences, totally devoid of material, padded out with the promise that you'll get round to explaining in between some skate sequences. You sir are a master of clickbait. Well done, you sapped my attention, got a view and didn't deliver.
I stood on indys for about 20 minutes. WORST truck I have ever stood on. I never wanted them bc the guys who rode them are usually kinda lame and judge everyone else but they never do more than giant kickflips or tres out of stuff and sit on the ledge judging anyone who comes to "their" park. They don't turn good and they have barely any pop, you have to scrape the crap out of the ground to get any height on tricks. The logo sucks too, Ace af1 for life.

@@depressing5978 It was the classics! Good trucks, but no indy!
What version of Indys ?
Did the same switch with the OG 55's, I honestly have a real hard time riding my other board with indy's. The turning radius difference is insane
Love your style man, always the highlight of my day when I see a new dowdy video! Hope to see you on some waves one day, keep shredding!
I love how you say, "try something new, mix it up," and in the same sentence, "I will definitely be sticking with Ace trucks" 😂
My hometown skatepark has a lot of Flat Ground, but it's proved essential, as allot of the young up'n'comers are getting their Tech Tricks Down solid!
Ya! That's the case with this skatepark as well.
What thunder trucks do you use?
What are you favorite trucks?!
ACES
When I first started skating I really loved Silvers because they had a cap on the nuts that would prevent the axel from wearing down quickly.
Then I've been switching between Indy and Thunder. Curious to try Ace now 👀 thanks brotha!
Thunder. Only weak point I’ve really had with them are the bushings
Independent 139 Standart 🤘💙🤘💙🤘💙🤘💙
Been riding Ace classics for a month and have no intention of switching back to Indy
Just got some 03 classics to try. If they didn’t make a low I would definitely never have tried them. 52mm sounds scary high
So you dont skate anymore?
@@versnellingspookie for medical reasons I do not, really, skate anymore
@@PMSTACKER3000 its good to listen to your body! But dont you ever miss it? Or have other hobbies and activities taken its place?
@@versnellingspookieFishing. I have knee issues that are irreversible, but I may try longboard surfing this summer.
Aces are obviously designed for carving bowls. Independent are probably the best for streets (and overall) and Thunders for skatepark in general.
Ace makes trucks for 10” boards
Loved this video. Even loved seeing all the falls haha makes me feel better about myself. But dude, definitely take your time with the uploads. If life is busy, don’t feel obligated to us. Take care of yourself. Keep it simple. Don’t burn out, and we’ll all be happier in the long term. Take care my man!
Much love Jason!! When I was editing previously I cut out all the bails, and started thinking "This isn't realistic" so glad you enjoy watching the process haha
@@ZackDowdy Really appreciate your videos AND def appreciate the fact you keep the bails in the videos - it helps to see how you bail and the way you get out of sticky situations just as much as the tricks you land. Thanks again!
Indy, Thunders or Ace for my 1Setup? I wanna ride 8.25 or 8.5 deck
Indy
I wondered about the Dallas layout. Thanks for some background.
Great reviews I subbed! Peace from San Francisco 💥💥
I ride ACE 55s and the new AF1 66s 7:54 It seems like you are still riding those 58mm. Cause you don't use risers, did you have to tight your trucks?
Congratulations on 20k! 😃🔥👊🏼
Thank you!
Have you gone back to Indys? I was wondering why ACE doesn't make hollow trucks though ? I think I'm getting 169 forged hollows skating 159 standards now. Do you compare this ace to a standard Indy as far as weight ??
i recently changed from venture to indy, i like them might have to try some thing later this year
Eli Williams Rides Ace .. so .. maybe .. 30 years of Indy's here.. may give it a shot. You put a mustard seed in my thoughts so 🤷♂️🤷♂️🔥💯
Ace originals stock bushings will not work for tight trucks. Unless I got a bad set.
I skated indy for about an 10 years switched to thunders a couple years ago and never looked back. They grind way better And I don’t have to switch bushings out every time I buy a new pair like I did with indy
Which thunder truck did you use?
"I'd rather fight then switch" is an old independent truck saying from back in the day. I love venture and independent. Just depends on what kind of board or what type of skating I'm doing at the time. That being said I wouldn't mind giving ace a try.
Ain't that some marketing from Independent, Fausto is a genius!
Hi Zack which ace do you ride and how loose are they, I definitely would like a truck thats looser, new bushings keep breaking.
Nice Ngoho at 7:33
Chicago rollerskate trucks only way to go!
👍 That's why I love Tracker. I just found out that I am not cool. LOL!!!
so why didnt you back to Tracker? they are sweet
I have both ace trucks and independent... I love them both but I am having a lot more fun on the aces. I might just make the switch to just ace
What version of Indys ?
Any chance for Zack to try the latest Tracker Axis trucks? That or the newest Ace AF1 trucks?
YES! Going to review & try the AF1 soon
Which wheels are those?
Tracker B2 where my first trucks. They where the cheapest and they served me well. I think they are based on Indy🤷The axle came loose, the kingpin broke a few times, but I kept skating them. Then switched to independent. When I went up to 8.5 switched to thunders. The only thing they had in the shop back then. Switched back to independents because I like the way they turn. But to be honest I don't feel a lot of difference. Less wheelbite because of the height. Now I'm waiting on film trucks to arrive. First EU trucks, and I'm curious. Maybe try those?
I really want to try those film trucks for sure!
Guy recently broke his film baseplate at my local park
Joey and Nicky are brothers.
I thought it was the Stage III. Got covered in Love Letters Truck Wars.
💯
Dude, for reals I have a nasty bruise on the inside of my knee that’s always super tender from the no comply tail slide demon haha
I have some Indys 169s on my mss main setup that I just can’t get over, and I also have some ace 44s and thunders 145s I just rock them all for each set up, but I’d like to try some of the new AF1s in a 66 to really test my 169s loyalty
Try Thunders man! I just switched to Thunders from Indy and I'm loving it
which thunders did you switch from which indy?
Where do you get ace trucks?
Local skate shops & online. One spot to check is ParadeWorld as they're connected to multiple shops to source items from.
Support local skateshops before buying online. They are your skate family!
@@jokingker2553 no one has ace trucks by me...
@@ezrhino100 What trucks do you ride now? I have everything, and this is a joke. Ace is no better. Don't believe the ploy.
@@ezrhino100 I have skated Ace, btw.
when are we getting to see the slappy setup you wanted to do?
Soon!! I need some wider trucks
@@ZackDowdy got any idea what you want? classic 66s or the AF1 77s?
Im debating wheels for my slappy setup now. I hear smaller is better but the streets are so crusty here its gonna be hell.
@@lo0ser555 Yeah smaller is better for slappies for sure, but if the streets are so crust then that must be challenge! I was thinking about 215 indys but would love to try the af1 77s!
@@ZackDowdy ah 215s such an amazing truck. ride em on my transition setup so cant verify how they do for slappys. but hear people love em for it so must be good.
my only issue is that finding a deck that fits them can be challenging. a lot of shaped decks taper too much where the trucks are. but looks like the deck you got will fit nicely.
Can you run bones hard bushings in the af1's?
Of course, running bones bushings in mine and there’s nothing better
@@Cruzing808 cool, how long have you had the bones hard bushings in the af1's? The reason I ask is they can start bulging out of place when you install them in some other truck brands. Cheers
@@cabaiste I have run bones bushing on Ace classics for 7 years and on the new Af1’s for 4 months or however long they have been out. Of corse you take off bottom washer and your good to go.
@@Cruzing808 ok good to know as I just got a set of af1's. thanks
Bones hard bushings are a blessing! Put them on everything. Daewon Song would tell you the exact opposite, though.
Ace is the best version of an independent truck! They turn amazing
2 top bushings in a pair of Indy’s and you’ll feel the best turning trucks you ever ridden.
I can only skate indys with aftermarket bushings. Anything else feels too loose for me.
I went with Ace AF1 44...
Back in the day it was Tracker Vs Indy.
Oh boy do I remember those days, glad that time is past haha
where do you work boss
I still skate a Destructos 😂
that's rough
I had a pair left from years ago, I wore them out on a slappy curb. On an old pair of Stage 11's now.@@Spurgte
Those doors you said that are closed might be more open then you think.
Out here the reason to switch to Ace trucks is simple:
A set of ACE AF1 = ~70-80
A set of Indys = ~90-120
Same reason I don't ride Spitfire wheels, the prices are just insane.
Yes aces are my fav
They're so good!
are you riding bones Wheels? those things be barking!
please put time stamps, for just the review.
I made the switch and I’ll be sticking with ACE
Most trucks are pretty comparable, the only ones that really suck( but look cool af) were gullwing. Gullwing had that crappy Kingpin indentation that hangs up on everything. Not sure if you can get them anymore.
Truth!! I tried the only/new Gullwings
You can still get them.
I wish I still had my B-2's
Tight trucks club 🎉
I know that jittery feeling.
All I’m saying is thunders are the best
👍
ACE.
Ace vs Thunder ?
Gold af1 77s
Indy has been making “rather fight than switch” stickers and using that slogan for many years, nothing new.
Decades more like
Best trucks are tensor either the mags or the mag lights
Ace for sure. Prefer classics over af1s
Ace for life, curious why you like the classics better ? 🤙🏽
Indys are the way to go only thing I’ve ever ridden
If they’re the only thing you’ve ridden how do you know they’re the way!?! 🤷🏼♂️
