I love climbing the hills and was surprised how well I handled it all. I would go back again! I didn't care for the Fracesinha. As a Canadian who is looking to winter and eventually move to Portugal, Oporto has my heart.
My favourite day is taking the bus to a restaurant at the far end of the ocean boulevard for breakfast then walking back to the Port houses. A stop in Afurada (a small quaint fishing neighbourhood) for lunch a must. It’s a long walk, 2-3 hours with stopping along the way for pictures but it’s mostly flat. After a Port, head up to Jardim de Morro for the sunset and hopefully there will be a live band. Walk up the (steep) hill behind the park to Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar for some even more stunning views. Oporto/ Gaia have some really amazing miradouros (scenic lookouts), you definitely need to stay longer just to see all of them. 😊

The metro is going thru a major re- vamp. It's extending to outer small towns, because the average worker can't afford rents in the city, yet that's where the jobs are. I was only 13 near 14 years old. As for the McDonalds you mentioned it has a very long story. In the begginning that was a big coffee shop where we could play some snooker at the cave. In the older days of 50's, 60's and 70's there were some big coffee shops like that one in Porto "Café Imperial" now changed to a McDonalds.

I don’t know if it is the video or the city, but you have absolutely made me fall in love with the city. in love with your videography. Hope I can achieve that one day.❤❤❤ the clarity and the angles, and the cleanliness is impeccable in your video that I was forced to write this message.

I loved Porto when there for several days last October. I’d even like to retire there. But sadly, my wife was not so impressed. I think she fixated too much on Porto’s grittier side, which I actually appreciated because it keeps it real. We are coming back for a few nights in Porto in May. Your video inspires me to pitch Porto to her again.

Same. It’s the gritty aspects that make me love Porto. It feels more real, grounded and relatable than say, Paris, in my view. Porto reflects life more truly and beautifully. I wonder if your wife would enjoy it more if you stayed in the swanky beachside Foz area next time. Or, if you still want to be very central, I recommend Bonfim neighborhood. It has more of a bucolic tree lined feel at the southern end near Rodrigues de Freitas. Possibly consider the affordable and charming Dukes Corner Hotel, right near my home. As to retiring there, it near impossible to choose a better balanced hit list of desires! I hope Porto is able to win her over next time! Be sure she sees Parque Serralves, view from Torre Clérigos, and maybe try a side day trip via train to Braga. Best wishes!

@@raeleohana8797 Wow, you read my mind as far as strategic planning is concerned: we are staying in Bonfim this time; I have Parque de Serralves on the list of possibilities for one day; and we're actually spending two nights in Braga after Porto. We did Torre Clérigos last time. She did want to see the Casa da Música last time but we didn't make it there, so perhaps we can squeeze it in this time (she is an avid harpist). On the other full day in Porto we're doing a day trip to Guimarães. Indeed, I do think she has Paris as a benchmark for appealing European city (and it has its own gritty side too!), but to her credit, she loved Lisbon and would live there in a heartbeat (I would too). Problem is, as you know, Lisbon real estate is crazy crazy expensive. I can't justify the price; it makes the soaring prices in Porto look cheap! Thanks for the comment, tips, and encouragement. Fingers crossed...

Trying to get my wife to retire to Portugal also but it's gonna be tough to get her to leave our son in the States as he just got married and my wife believes there are going to be grandkids in the next few years. I keep telling her that's what Zoom and airline tickets are for but......

Mullets and Carhartts is the only thing that "turned me off" in this video... I'm a 44 yrs young Portuense and i've never seen that much of "Mullets and Carhartts"...
Don't know where Dave got that from.

Dave. We say ‘o Porto’ (not ‘Oporto’, although it does sound the same) the same way we say any other word that needs the indicative ‘o’ (yes, the), for instance, o rio (the river).

Loved this one as a real Porto born. You have here one awesome choice of places in a very good sequence. You haven’t fail one of my favorites that is Serralves with all that you can have their. Most of the travelers miss it in their experience vídeos in Porto. This video is a 10 in 10 ❤️
