My first webcomic was called Reinvention, a slice-of-life story about a rich kid who ended up in a homeless shelter and ends up becoming a completely different person. I dropped it after three chapters, mainly because I discovered the endless scroll format just wasn't for me. After that ended, I drew some one shots, entered some contests, and now I'm getting revved up to try a new story I've been sitting on for five years! This time fitting the tastes I discovered while drawing one shot comics
A MESSAGE FOR STAR!!! I really hope you read this. So I've been reading your webcomic for a few weeks now, and I LOVE IT. I wanted to thank you for making it, but not just in the normal old "oh thanks for making this becuase it looks pretty and I love the storyline!" way. Well, that too. But I wanted to thank you for writing Vector the way he is. He really resonates with me. I have severe anxiety and agoraphobia, and these things make me feel like I'm dying when I'm in a crowd or meeting new people. I read this webcomic and thought to myself, "hey, Vector's got the same problems as me!" It really means a lot to see myself represented in such a powerful way, and through a media I love. So, thank you Star. Thank you for making me feel seen
I'm working on a comic called 'Marionette'. Its gaslight fantasy (steampunk with magic). The title has a lot to do with it as my main themes revolve around being controlled and used as a puppet. The first part of the comic is going to focus on a murderer known as the puppeteer who hangs their victims by the hands and legs resembling a puppet 😤
This webcomic changed my life. I’m forever thankful for that day in April where I found this video and started reading castoff. Thank you so much for changing my life.❤
I just wanted to take the time to thank you for everything you do, Star! You were one of the many few inspirations for me starting my webcomic series. It's still in it's infancy, but I do already see massive progress on both my art style and consistency, but also my pacing! It's not an easy task, and there are many moments of burnout and heartache along the way... that's one of the harder pills to swallow when it comes to comic making, and I am just now learning that it's a common, and very human thing. I guess, all of this to say, I am most inspired by your persistence and determination to make something cool that you liked, and pushed through all of the hardships to keep it going even today! That takes a lot of dedication and focus, and you've come so far in your journey! I'm proud of you, even if it is weird, me being a stranger from another corner of the world-wide web. :P
About half a week ago I found your webcomic and read the entire thing in like two days lol. It's SOOOO good! I absolutely love all the characters and their interactions, and the art is just beautiful! It's inspired my to maybe try making my own comic, but I really doubt my artistic abilities, so we'll see about that... still, really cool to hear about Castoff's origin story, I can't wait for every new page you release :D
i love rewatching this video every now and then, it helps me keep up motivation for lots of my projects. im planning on making a short comic sometime soon about a characters backstory thats talked about in a book im writing but only vaguely, its probably gonna be at least a bit long but stuff like this reminds me that when im ready to make it its possible.
God, I love hearing the origin story of your own comic! It gives me a lot of motivation/inspiration for my own story that has been sitting around doing absolutely nothing. I'm thinking of just going full mixed media at this point as no single medium seems to keep my attention for very long. I also love how ours has very similar origins being in dreams, at this point I've kinda made it a thing where most of my dreams that I remember are basically canon since they actually seem to have some sort of plot? All I need to do is fill in the blanks and I've got a story!
I’ve been developing a huge expansive story since I was 5, and over the years whenever I write and add new “chapters” to it I keep getting better and better at writing it, but i’m just not good at drawing so I’ve never made a “comic” version of it😅 And nowadays I’m starting to realize that Writing really is my passion, and I want to explore that and share my stories with the world, but I’m worried I might never be able to
Love the video! Its crazy to see how long and bumpy castoffs rise is!! Ive been in the works jumbling ideas for my own comic, its about a team of mercenaries who work for the steampunk state, are given their hardest mission ever; being to assassinate the King of the utopic futuristic rival country. With each member having their own disability (blind, deaf, and mute) they uncover more and more dark secrets about their own state as they struggle to carry out the mission. Most of the characters are based off birds because i have an unyielding passion for birds, and I swear its a lot more detailed than how i said it. Its an idea that feels like a dream, and im unsure about how much do I actually dedicate to this idea. But seeing your channel gives me inspiration, I even got your book lol. Because I wanna become a better artist and just make something me and many other people could enjoy and love
So I have a work in progress universe and i dont wanna dump, but there is a few really fun details. 1. Its not 1 comic series, its (currently) 3, and the combined universe is called Theior. 2. 1 of the series, was funnily enpugh, the exact same way you came up with castoff, a dream. So the plot is tweaked and molded around the dreams. And the orignal dream is not at all what I came up with originally, I had the dream when I was 8, and while working on my other comic, I redesigned the charcters, and that night, I had a dream about them, in REDESIGNED FORM! I was so excited.
Hi. Yea just stumbled upon your works recently, even I haven’t checked the comics yet but the inspiration stories videos of it really kicked me into doing my own comics now , not fully a long series yet more like itty bit of one shots . Its still something ❤ . The stories just revolve between my ocs what they do during the days , how they interact and connect w one another . Hope that i can make digital versions of them soon , i work faster on traditional sadly , thank you again for the videos ❤
Hi, just want to let you know that I'm really enjoying your comic! I found it when I stumbled upon another of your videos last year, the 'things to never do in your webcomic' one. I got curious about the couple of pages you showed in that video, investigated it, and got completely hooked: you have such a great storytelling style and pacing that I was drawn in from the first chapter, and it's definitely become one of my favourite comics. The art is so beautiful and atmospheric, the main characters are really interesting and appealing (I think Rori's my favourite - she may be a bit of a brat but she's also a lot of fun as a character! - but I love precious baby boy Vector too), and I'm always excited whenever I realise it's a new page day! I also keep returning especially to the Goldview arc to read again and again, there's just something I find incredibly satisfying about that one in particular. All this basically to say, I'm really enjoying it and look forward to see where you're going to take the story next! :D As to the question from the video, I've got a comic idea in mind but I'm mostly focusing on refining my skill at animation through various small projects at present, so they're taking most of my creative energy right now. Maybe sometime in the future, though. The story, in its simplest form, is about a group of puppies working together to survive in the big city as they try to figure out where they belong in life; I have the characters designed and a rough overall plot, but definitely need to do a lot of working out specifics ^^ Interestingly, Amber - my secondary main character - was a design from a dream, just like Vector was for you!
i have found you through your sneak peaks of your book and now i have found your channel by sheer concidence! your story of how your webcomic came to be is almost similair to mine except... i am hella stubborn and i will not let go of constellargaze (and it's past iterations) no matter how much i am struggling kowkey sick of it. but as an austic person, i cannot. this is basically my lifeline, my only friend though out all of my life. and encouragement of making friends (although i aint good at it) so i stubbornly tretch on. working into it's lore, over and over and over again. and eventually i have 4 stories in one, i was intially working on only cosg, but.... i could not leave the other 4 stories behind in the dust... so i let them come along, it's a long and hard process. but i have molded them into the stories i want them to be. although i aint satisified with some of them. but they won't leave my head, no matter how much i pondered and worried if it will become flopped i will be damned if i don't, and although there are some medias that have multiple stories, like live a live and octopath traveler. i hope to release them someday, even if it literally took me years to get to them.
I've never really thought about creating a comic, I always wrote stories and I draw stuff (like the character from my stories) but I never really had the intention to combine it, but lately I've been watching so many of your (and other creator's) videos about web comics, I kinda wanna give it a shot. So far I've only got a rough idea in my head: We've got a world where magic technically exists but it mostly forgotten, the last wizards died centuries ago. The protagonist is a kid who grew up with stories about the ancient times and decides that they want to become the first new age wizard. Magic is a skill and a science and there is no one left to teach them, so they travel the world looking for old texts and artefacts to reconstruct how magic was used, kind of like reconstructing an ancient dead language. They're not alone on their quest, they are accompanied by a talking, way too enthusiastic hamster, who ate a magic artefact that made him sentient. The hamster's goal is to slay a dragon and therefore he needs an adventuring party, good thing he already found a wizard! Now he just need to find a dragon to slay
Thank you a bunch for the video, and sharing the origin of your comic! Your channel/videos have been an amazing resource to learn more about webcomics. I've learned a lot since my first project fell through after a couple chapters, and have been thinking about giving it another go, now armed with more information on the topic. Thank you for all your hard work 💛
I've written so many stories! I am trying to work on one right now that is currently titled "Goldenrook." It focuses on this little "mobile game" world where the main character explores some of the troubles that come with being a brand-new adult, family drama, habits, and mental health. I have another comic that is currently being called "Switch Fate" that's kind of a spoof off of "Growing Up Gerudo" by Junior and Roy. And because I can't seem to stop writing new things, I have another called "Lore of the Skies" that is an original mythology drama comic from some of my own books.
Recently found your channel and been binging your videos because you have such an expressive voice and adorable art style! I gotta say it's weird watching your older videos like this and not hearing "Hey Star watcha drawing". Still love watching you draw and hearing your anecdotes. Keep up the good work!
Y'know, what I appreciate the most about this whole thing is knowing how long it takes you to do this, even though technically, this is your job, around 5 years in your head or with just rough drafts, and now 7 years actually making the polished version. I've had a story in my head for 2 years now, don't have art for it except the design of the main character, and I thought I've taken too long. I haven't realized how much I need to change the way I look at this. This is a journey, a passion project, heck, if it was a life-time project, who cares? I should be excited by how long it'll take me, not be afraid of it! So thank you for not being a ridiculously fast artist. The other problem is that I don't have any experience in making comics, and yet, I would HATE for this story to be left behind. This one is important to me and yet I want to learn while making it. I don't know how this'll go but I hope I won't screw it up.
I love hearing your stories and hearing more about your comic! I've been following your comic for a while now, and it, along with your How To Make Webcomics book have really helped teach and inspire me. I've had a comic idea rolling around in my head for a few years now, and hearing about your experience has helped me develop and refine the story and characters. And (hopefully) soon I'll be ready to start drawing my own webcomic. Thank you Star!
I've been sitting on an idea for an adventure comic for 10 years, mostly due to depression, procrastination, and just expecting that it will get done if I thought about it (jk not how it happens, but you get the picture). I've finally started on the mini comic to explore the characters and the concepts for the story, which reminds me I need to start outlining chapters :/ . I wouldn't be where I am now if I haven't seen your videos for making webcomics, and I'm definitely taking the advice you gave in the near future. Thank you for the inspiration, solid advice for a budding comic artist and I look forward to finally reading Castoff! Woo!
You've inspired me to make my own comic, I've watched your tips religiously and have a small 15 page webcomic storyboarded, and I bought a small drawing tablet so I could use Krita (I use ibis paint x on my phone, but I find it's not great for larger resolution images, and I might want to print my comic for my own personal use later).
I really like listening to you. A lot of your doubts and phases of uncertainty, depression and unwillingness to pick up a pen really mirror my experience over the past few years. But for a bit over 2 years I have been working and developing an idea for a comic and i think im close to being at the point you were when you decided to pick up your collected ideas for castoff. ❤ thanks 😊
funny enough, I had been looking for someone/something to help me sort out and/or just give me advice on making a comic, you've been a god sent for me. I currently have a comic outline that went through a big rewrite to make the story and plot make more sense lol But your videos and advice have been amazing help in my process and I'm extremely thankful!
I'm working on a webcomic called the last wizard. The main character leif is the last survivor of a massacre that almost wiped out almost all the wizards. The story takes place a year after the massacre and they would meet Emily and Eddie. The first bit of the story will be abt getting to know the characters while leif tries to hide the fact that they're a wizard. I'm working on the pilot and trying to figure out how to make a good storyline
I just finished castoff. After being subbed to you for a while I finally decided to actually read it. I don’t regret that at all. It’s the first web comic I’ve ever read, and I LOVE it!!!! I’m so invested and I absolutely adore all the characters, but my favourites are Frankie and Vector. I can’t even express how impressive and stunning all the art is, it is definitely a massive inspiration for me. Anyway, yeah castoff is amazing and I’m obsessed. I’m tryna get my friends to read it lol. Tldr: I love castoff and it’s a massive inspiration to me, also GIVE ARIANNA BACK THE MAGIC GUN lol
Heyo (jeez i am late for this video) I just wanted to say your videos are so helpful and motivating! I’m currently working on my first comic, a fantasy story that has people dealing with trauma, fighting monsters and finding out just how linked they are to the divine entities that caused both war and peace. Honestly I can’t wait to start it. I’m going to make some short one off episodic mini comics to test how i want to compose my comics and colours (cause good grief do I want to finish this thing). I know that it’s not going to be my magnum opus or the best thing I will ever write but I’m ok with that. Your advice when it comes to comics is so helpful and honestly when you add bits of encouragement it makes me more motivated! I do get scared about burning out but honestly thanks to you I’d say I’ve got a good chance of making something I’m proud or at least happy with. Thank you.
Wow this whole story is really inspiring me to finally pick up the story that has been circling around my head for a couple years! It's my first ever comic, so I'm really nervous to start posting it, but you have really inspired me to just go for it! Not without a plan to be sure, but I have to start at some point. Thanks so much for making Castoff!! I found the story like a week ago and I'm obsessed lol! Such a interesting concept and a fascinating world!! I know I'm kind of late to this video, but if you ever see this comment, I'd love to let you know your comic is amazing, and I can't wait till your next post!
I’m currently working on the first draft of my graphic novel “The Serigala.”It’s about an artist, Farran, who makes a living off of their commissions while also leading a double life as a bounty hunter. The writing of the first book is complete, and I’m currently drawing all the panels traditionally before I go in digitally. I was initially scared of going ahead with this project, but after watching your videos it makes me less anxious and excited to share my work. I’m still figuring out how I’ll be publishing this book(straight to publishing or posting it online before). But I’m excited regardless to see how people will react to my work🤩
Just found you and have been binging your content. You have some excellent prose and I can tell how skilled you are in script writing in how you speak in your videos and how some of that has leaked into your auditory storytelling. Can't wait for the updated book! You are amazing and I wish you continued success.
im very new here like i just subscribed today so i havent seen Castoff yet but ill get right on that! i also happen to have my own little comic i make on Deviant Art with little animations i make to go along with them and it is honestly one of my favorite projects i ever had even tho i take months to finish them lmao X3
One day (maybe two years from now) I hope to publish an action fantasy on Webtoon. It's a very friend\family centric story (Entirely romanceless.). I'd give you a name, but it's a working title currently.
My webcomic is about a witch, a demon girl, a dragon humanoid, and a psychic with supernatural abilities living in an apartment complexes and trying to live normal lives, but they end up in supernatural situations. They're usually backed up by a fashion magazine VP (who also happens to be the witch's mother) and their landlord, a retired monster hunter. I've come up with the idea since March of 2020, the time where I first started writing the script for it. Boyfriend helps me in the script department
I know it’s been 2 years since you made this vid, but I just discovered your channel and this is super inspiring 🤍 I started the concept for my webcomic back in 2018 and I felt terrible about the fact that it’s only now being made… But hearing you talk about how long you mulled over Cast Off, and seeing the similarities in my own journey, has been huge! I’m so glad now that it took me 6 years to finally get to this point, because as I matured as a person (I was 18 in 2018), my story has matured with it and it’s gonna be even better than what I originally had planned So thank you, Star!
a comic ive had in my head for a really long time, a time traveler and a psychic from another world who goes to earth to defeat the titans of greek mythology, i have no real illustration skills.. i can try though.. but over the years i kinda wanna do more with the character, i even decide to try the "5-man band" style. id like to one day put it to paper (or type) then get some illustrations for at least one episode to see what people think of it. in high school it was called "Tiempous the untold myth"
I've wanted to do a manga/comic all my life. In high school I had started brainstorming a manga that was pretty much "Bibleman" meets "Ironman" meets anime...that was utter trash XD. It's like you said, the first comic you ever do may never see the light of day or just not hit with you. I went through two to three comic ideas that never hit the illustration phase. Eventually I started working a manga idea that was based on some illustrations I made for my wife that was just us but in different franchises. This multiverse idea sprung up and over time I ended up writing a fanfic story of these characters all meeting and facing a multiverse threat, even made a t-shirt of it. Eventually my brother mentioned the idea of doing this story as an original piece and that made the story go in a reboot phase. Fast track a year and it started to have its own life. I've now created a power system, characters, and even a skeleton of a plot. It's been a fun journey and I think about it often. Your video was very helpful and inspiring, so thank you. Your work is awesome and makes me want to push myself and take this story further and hopefully within a year make it to a platform.
I have begun! My motivation has come a little later in life than yours, but I am of the opinion that there is no age that is "too old" to start something that you're excited about, and at age 35 I have now started to write a story with the working title of: "I'm NOT a Catboi!" Thank you for your encouragement!
6:45 oh lawd. Had a dream where this mage was being tasked by this kingdom to kill this dragon that's been terrorizing the world. He finds an old tome and completely misreads the note thinking that this was some amazing ritual that grants the casters incredible powers. So he gets a bunch of mages together they go to a field and do the ritual, blinding flashing light, Protag-Kun wakes up in a field of gorgeous flowers. He can't find the other people though. He tries to cast magic to find every body and a bunch of flowers around him wilt and die and the detection spell shows he's surrounded by everybody. The ritual turned eveyone else to flowers and tied their power to him, so he has this immense power, but if he uses it everyone dies. So now he trying to beat the dragon without using the oneshot magic spell that will leave the field barren and tries to find a spell that will turn everyone back. .. . And that's when the Orks attack. . . . I tell this dream to my cousin who promptly replies with "You need to lay off the melatonin" I said heck no, it's cheaper than netflix.
Awwww…Thanks for the Heart!! I have made all sorts of comics when I was a kid!! Loved it and now as an adul-t…I’ve been having tons and tons of ideas swirling through my brain gears just twirling and twirling around yet it’s hard to stick with just one idea and make it a small comic project…😃❤️❤️❤️❤️ Best of Luck with your artwork and webcomics💕❤️❤️❤️
I have been thinking about my characters' stories for a while and think it would be really fun to tell their stories as a webcomic. I wanted to do a story with themes of anti-establishment and punk ideals, but it's kind of complicated and a bit too much for me to tackle straight away. So, instead, I decided to do a simpler story that explains how the 2 main characters, Ash and Fountina, met and subsequently started being a couple. They meet in a rough situation in the city and Ash has to save Tina from a street fight. Ash makes sure she gets home safe and realizes she's loaded and her parents own a mansion. She thinks that she'll never see her again but at least she did a good thing for a stranger. But, within the same week she sees Tina getting in over her head again in a fight and has to save her again. The rest of the story is about them getting to know each other and Tina either reconciling with her parents or chosing to leave and live with Ash, even if their less well-off. Oh yeah, and every character is based on a specific art supply, Ash is a piece of compressed charcoal and Fountina is a fountain pen. I have a tiny little side story about Ash and Tina's pet cat that is also a ball of yarn.
I am not skilled at ALL in drawing, i never sat down and actually tried as I get depressed real easy if I mess up. However I am in the same boat you were where you had an idea in your head for years. I thought about writing a novel based on characters I wrote back in high school but have scaled waaaay back to childrens book as it seems more appropriate. I've sat down the last couple of months and finished! I am in the process of finding a publisher
Well I have a great idea for my comic book! I’ve been so excited about it for like a month. I’ve already designed my main characters but oh.. it’s my graduation from school year :( I have so many things to do and I feel so bad about the fact that I can not spend more time creating my comics
Mines not realy a web comic it’s a few mini comics and shots and your videos give me the inspiration to work on it I hope your comic journey goes well ❤
Currently working on a web comic called Aaron Slak. It’s basically about this guy trying to shave off boredom with crazy consequences. Been meaning to make one for awhile but I keep getting rapped up in the story. So I decided to just start and let the story come as I work. Might not be great but it’s better than nothing.
Working on a comic called "Omeccus" which is the name of the fantasy country it mostly takes place in, about a black mage escaping the magic police with her boyfriend (very poorly described)
Hey there. I ran across your UA-cam channel a few weeks ago, and I eventually ended up on this video. It was the one that convinced me to read your webcomic, so I found the link in the description and I binge-read the whole thing in two days. I'm very curious about Sage now. And I'm wondering why pancakes are apparently a running Castoff gag when Frankie only mentions them one time in the actual comic...?
So the comic I’m working on right now I currently just finished page 7 and it’s a fan comic for the show called Amphibia and it’s… not great |: but I’m having a great time making it and you’ve been a great motivation so thx lol
I want to make a WEBTOON but I think my story is a little plains and I don’t have an idea for what’s happening further in the story so it’s about a girl who just wants friends and to be normal after being bullied from her old school and meets someone on her first day but they turn out like trouble and spread lies and then this girl try’s to fix it so she goes somewhere and I don’t really know why and somehow she gets magic or something and is now like slowly morphing into something it’s still in progress but any tips would help Thankyou
Currently planning the first panel of this comic im planning to make, 'lilac underground' (for a somewhat unrelated reason im trying to figure out how to draw a wheelchair) 😅
I know it's been like 5 months but I'm actually doing the same thing rn! my protagonist uses a wheelchair so I've been doing studies of them. tracing over photos to learn about the structure of them has been really helpful!
Thank you for this Video, I kinda needed the right inspiration to start with my own Vlog. I have a few comic ideas but I took my sweet time to get ehm... My so called style in check. So now I was checking out a bunch of vlogs and yours is actually the second one that kept me watching and following. The other 7 out of 9 ja... Where more making coffee and food and creams and shoes and bla bla bla bla... So I really appreciate your video, hope to see more thank youuuuuus
Uh hello, I’m a “new” UA-camr, (well maybe not anymore ‘cause I did start my channel 6 months ago) anyways I love making comics and I’m making on now thanks to this video, It’s gonna be called “Stellar Star”, Also…thank you for sharing this videos you have inspired me to do more art stuff, thank you so very much 💜💙❤️💛🧡🖤🩵💚😊
Nice backstory! I have an idea for a comic, a fantasyish fiction 'slice of life' more centred around character development (a fancy way of me saying putting my issues into a persona-esque character and having them heal for me over time), but I've gotten demotivated thinking about worldbuilding. I've heard people say that fantasy is one of those genres which needs super extensive planning for the setting, although I've just made a brief list of some elements which I think show up in everyday life (food, culture, clothes, where stuff comes from, and magic types), but I really wish to move on with actually writing down the plot and defining my characters and drawing stuff! I'm planning on not dwelling on it too much anymore (once summer break starts I'm starting on the fun stuff), and to hope that it doesn't cause an issue. Does anyone have any insights?
I’m scared to start a comic. even if it’s just a short story. i’m even scared of writing the script because i’m so terrified that i’ll mess up. dose anyone have any advice for this?
Don't know if that helps but you don't need to show it to anyone or even tell them that you are working on something, if you mess up, it doesn't matter, it's only for yourself. Once you end up sort of liking it, show it to a good friend or random strangers on the internet and see if they like it too
I want to start a webcomic. Acually I have 4 what I started years ago and every comic is in a different style. XD I horrible. But now I start to write a story and stuck with a big fat question - What is my main character motivaton? What is his gol? Have anyone here with same problems? Also I really want to write down the story first like just some basic story line for guideing me. And that part is make me anxious…
I used to draw little comic strips back in grade school and through most of high school. Nothing note-worthy, I was just trying to keep myself sane through the misery and boredom of our broken and very outdated "education" system... but I wonder if I could build on that old, flimsy foundation I wrote back then now that I have some real world experience and knowledge to inject into it...
I was gonna make my first comic off of a game I really like to play am I allowed to do that. It's an adventure game with magic and sailing and fight pirates.
currently writing out urban fantasy with psycho pomps that later ill turn into comic. Skill not super good and it's a bit easier and faster for me to write words.
I really wanna make a web comic or just a comic but I can’t decide an official art style ans I can’t figure out a story since my brain is always full of ideas lol I’m that type of person if you could can you give me some ideas so my brain can create a story😁I’d really appreciate it
It's not too late to bring back Arianna's magic gun
NO GUNS IN CASTOFF!! not since the Weird Gun Roleplayer in my comments section. Gonna have to make a video about THAT situation another time lol
@@TheStarfishface lmao, that would be fun to listen to😂
@@TheStarfishface I’m pretty sure if Ariana had a gun, Frankie wouldn’t survive longer than 7 pages
@TheStarfishface haha, cant wait!
@@TheStarfishface Not even…THE SHAME GUN?!

It really means a lot to see myself represented in such a powerful way, and through a media I love. So, thank you Star. Thank you for making me feel seen
This is the sweetest message I’ve ever seen❤😭
Working on a comic page rn, these videos are the only thing motivating me lmao 💀
Same.
It gives me inspiration
I've been considering starting my own and these videos are so informative
@@skedaddledbraincell Yeah they really r!!
Ayyyy! Drawing while watching videos about what you should of done crew!
You have inspired me to start working on my own comic ideas, I'm still bouncing around ideas. But thank you so much for the little push I needed.

I just found it and did the exact same thing, I read this in 3 days😆
You have a voice that calms me down. Thanks for being you. It brightens my life in just the right way that I needed.
i love rewatching this video every now and then, it helps me keep up motivation for lots of my projects. im planning on making a short comic sometime soon about a characters backstory thats talked about in a book im writing but only vaguely, its probably gonna be at least a bit long but stuff like this reminds me that when im ready to make it its possible.
I’ve been developing a huge expansive story since I was 5, and over the years whenever I write and add new “chapters” to it I keep getting better and better at writing it, but i’m just not good at drawing so I’ve never made a “comic” version of it😅 And nowadays I’m starting to realize that Writing really is my passion, and I want to explore that and share my stories with the world, but I’m worried I might never be able to
I know this is a little late, but you got this! If it’s something you really are passionate about then you’ll figure something out. Best of luck!
Dude, i believe in you. Write your novel please.
THE LAST ART WAS SO GOOD????
Dude this is amazing an amazing video, I loved it :)
As to the question from the video, I've got a comic idea in mind but I'm mostly focusing on refining my skill at animation through various small projects at present, so they're taking most of my creative energy right now. Maybe sometime in the future, though. The story, in its simplest form, is about a group of puppies working together to survive in the big city as they try to figure out where they belong in life; I have the characters designed and a rough overall plot, but definitely need to do a lot of working out specifics ^^ Interestingly, Amber - my secondary main character - was a design from a dream, just like Vector was for you!
i have found you through your sneak peaks of your book and now i have found your channel by sheer concidence!
your story of how your webcomic came to be is almost similair to mine except...
i am hella stubborn and i will not let go of constellargaze (and it's past iterations) no matter how much i am struggling kowkey sick of it.
but as an austic person, i cannot. this is basically my lifeline, my only friend though out all of my life. and encouragement of making friends (although i aint good at it)
so i stubbornly tretch on. working into it's lore, over and over and over again. and eventually i have 4 stories in one, i was intially working on only cosg, but.... i could not leave the other 4 stories behind in the dust...
so i let them come along, it's a long and hard process. but i have molded them into the stories i want them to be. although i aint satisified with some of them. but they won't leave my head, no matter how much i pondered and worried if it will become flopped
i will be damned if i don't, and although there are some medias that have multiple stories, like live a live and octopath traveler. i hope to release them someday, even if it literally took me years to get to them.
I've never really thought about creating a comic, I always wrote stories and I draw stuff (like the character from my stories) but I never really had the intention to combine it, but lately I've been watching so many of your (and other creator's) videos about web comics, I kinda wanna give it a shot. So far I've only got a rough idea in my head:
We've got a world where magic technically exists but it mostly forgotten, the last wizards died centuries ago.
Thank you for all your hard work 💛
0:34 i have the opposite of that were I can’t look at anyone with out fear that’s because i am neurodivergent tho not any supernatural stuff
This is so great! i cant believe how far you've come!!! i'm so excited to start my own journey with your videos as support!
0:15 yes there is... its called... ADHD!!! *dramatic piano and instrumentals*
❤ thanks 😊
I swear I love how you just talk and put a drawing on the background now I can clean my room and do work and see how the drawing is
funny enough, I had been looking for someone/something to help me sort out and/or just give me advice on making a comic, you've been a god sent for me.
I currently have a comic outline that went through a big rewrite to make the story and plot make more sense lol
But your videos and advice have been amazing help in my process and I'm extremely thankful!
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us! For me, this is a lot for me, cause I just started making a webtoon 2 months ago ❤❤❤
It's on tapas called "Queerverse the comic"
It started as an angsty rant comic idea that got revised so many times & now is what it is
This looks beautiful ❤❤❤
Oh my goodness I just found this video- this idea looks absolutely phenomenal!!! I’m gonna give the web comic a chance
UPDATE: I READ UP TO CHAPTER 9!! IM IN LOVE!!! I’ve never binge read a web comic like this before😭😭😭 it’s great!!
Update 2: This comic changed my life.😭 I’m so happy to be here❤❤❤❤
Omg I just read it! It’s so good!!!
@@HelloHaveA_NiceDayIT REALLY IS
One day (maybe two years from now) I hope to publish an action fantasy on Webtoon.
13:47 do you still yave these fears, Star?
I know it’s been 2 years since you made this vid, but I just discovered your channel and this is super inspiring 🤍
I started the concept for my webcomic back in 2018 and I felt terrible about the fact that it’s only now being made… But hearing you talk about how long you mulled over Cast Off, and seeing the similarities in my own journey, has been huge!
I’m so glad now that it took me 6 years to finally get to this point, because as I matured as a person (I was 18 in 2018), my story has matured with it and it’s gonna be even better than what I originally had planned
So thank you, Star!
I have a concept for a comic where a bored angle opens a cafe
a comic ive had in my head for a really long time, a time traveler and a psychic from another world who goes to earth to defeat the titans of greek mythology, i have no real illustration skills.. i can try though.. but over the years i kinda wanna do more with the character, i even decide to try the "5-man band" style. id like to one day put it to paper (or type) then get some illustrations for at least one episode to see what people think of it. in high school it was called "Tiempous the untold myth"
6:55 This is so weird, this new webcomic I just started (I plan on naming it Crystal Labyrinth) is also is based off a dream I had!
My motivation has come a little later in life than yours,
but I am of the opinion that there is no age that is "too old" to start something
that you're excited about, and at age 35 I have now started to write a story
with the working title of:
"I'm NOT a Catboi!"
Thank you for your encouragement!
We need to add Vector to Smash. Also add Arianna into Smash with her magic gun.
Omg I’m watching this on the posting anniversary
I'll be camping at the front door at the front of the line for your comic when it comes out in print :D
❤❤❤❤❤❤ Oooooohhh…!!! I Love your channel as I ordered a copy of your How to Wencomic book!!❤❤❤❤ Super excited to read it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Awwww…Thanks for the Heart!!
Mines not realy a web comic it’s a few mini comics and shots and your videos give me the inspiration to work on it
I hope your comic journey goes well ❤
Currently working on a web comic called Aaron Slak.
So the comic I’m working on right now I currently just finished page 7 and it’s a fan comic for the show called Amphibia and it’s… not great |: but I’m having a great time making it and you’ve been a great motivation so thx lol
do patreon members get old mail stuff? I really like those but just ran into your channel this month
Interesting, I might read it.
Also, do you have any tips for naming?
@@awkwardsauceart good for you and good luck, took me like 2 days straight to figure out how to draw a wheelchair
Amazing
Vector is such a cute little sad boy
Star: "NaNoWriMo"
Me: *gremlin voice* "Y E S"
how...do I even come up with an idea for a comic? That seems to be the biggest issue I have.
Nah, why did this say it just got uploaded but I ever watched it last year
I'm working on a comic about 2 boys in a fantasy world who go on crazy adventures
My webcomic startsd from a dream too.
if anyone has watched game shakers well i just saw an ad and the robot looks like me-go
wow
I can see Ariana with a magical gun that works like a star wars blaster
Once you end up sort of liking it, show it to a good friend or random strangers on the internet and see if they like it too
@@froggyfanatic-d7b thank you so much!! yeah lll definitely be keeping that in mind.
I am working on a comic. It’s a supernatural & fantasy called “Different Worlds”
Hehe… marina and Ariana are holding hands.
Vector deserves so much better
I just wanna ask but can you animate you're storytimes pls
currently writing out urban fantasy with psycho pomps that later ill turn into comic. Skill not super good and it's a bit easier and faster for me to write words.
I really wanna make a web comic or just a comic but I can’t decide an official art style ans I can’t figure out a story since my brain is always full of ideas lol I’m that type of person if you could can you give me some ideas so my brain can create a story😁I’d really appreciate it
Just to be curious, how much would I need to pay for a UA-cam review for a webcomic I'm doing?
Why does this sound stupidly similar to how my own story is being made?
