Awesome tool! Really a game changer. However, In a mixing scenario, I would recommend to go specifically straight to the problem (in that case, hats, percs, anything else...), other than eq the whole track. You're gonna avoid phase issues, lack of clarity in other elements that might be good already... The plugin is so good that is gonna be obvious where the problem is. Go straight to that! Don't mess with your whole mix! Cheers guys!
My thanks for your continued improvements on this wonderful tool. I am glad I don't have to rely on my aging ears anymore to be my ONLY way of knowing if I got it right.
This is a pretty good plugin. But sometimes I will place my music within the parameters yet the music would sound horrible so you will have to go by ear instead. Also this will tell you if the track is incorrect but not how to fix it nor would it make suggestions. I learned by old school engineers to go off your ears at times. Because it could sound better than what you're seeing with those parameters. Then again it's all about preference. Thanks for vid by the way.
Started the rent to own plan on Splice and jumped on it a couple months ago. Saw the Tonal Balance bundle Black Friday sale and had to get it!!! No more renting! I'm an owner now buddy!!!! Lol
@Dan You're aware that a lot of people really buy or rent digital stuff ? In fact, for certain plugins such as the Slate Digital ones, you don't have the choice.
@Dan I rent because I can’t afford one payment of thousands of pounds worth of software. I also don’t want to wait months or even years to save up. It’s much easier to just pay £30 a month....
I'm just discovering I have this in my Ozone suite. Love the song! I am now a Kafka Tamura fan! Might have to switch from Pro-Q3 to My Izotope EQ to interface with the lower window. It was always pretty close to a tie between those two anyway.
This seems like a fantastic plugin (have not tried it yet) if you know the underlying parameters. As @nonperial wrote, the plugin shows the energy distribution and volume, even if you set it correct it does not necessarily mean that it sounds good (you still need to do the groundwork and choose the “right” sounds that fit together).
You are just using a part of the song in a loop to get the curve within the target curve, so my question is what about the rest of the song ? should the song has to remain in this curve throught ? And what if I am working on a cross genre that is based on acoustic, electronic and orchestral stuff , what should i do in that case to use this plugin ? I have been trying this plugin and set the reference to a target folder which has a couple of songs. When I try to keep the song withtin the curve it sounds quite odd in some sections.
This is a great reference tool - I often follow-it up with Master The Mix's REFERENCE for a more detailed look at each band's STEREO WIDTH, COMPRESSION, and the track's overall LUFS. Again, great tool - but you just tossed a super-wide -6db attenuation up there to meet that tonal balance target - great in theory, but in practice...?
Thanks for this explanation. I'm having a problem . I use Superior Drummer 3 and the problem is always with (Bass Drum) . When I use (Tonal Balance Control 2) the cursor always reads on the left although I didn't use anything like EQ or Compression. What's the solution? Thanks for the reply in advance
That's in 99% of all cases exactly wrong! You most often need to reduce one thing in order to boost another! That's at least a very helpful rule of thumb when it comes to mixing/mastering!
Since cutting in the high freq. solved 2 problems. Does that mean when there's more than one frequency range that needs adjusting, it's better to start with what need reduction rather than what need boosting?
Yep. If you keep boosting, you'll boost something else to match it, then something else to compensate for that, and next thing you know you're buying new speakers....
What are the 3D/Surround effects in the "Everything Bundle"?! They will probably aid what I am about to focus on... but Exponential isn't releasing Videos on the Surround products... So, how can I justify $500 on ifs/ands/maybes for an upgrade path?
if I add an instance of Relay on each track by default, will they appear with the name of the track (i.e. Bass) on the drop down menu inside tonal balance or would I have to do that manually on each relay instance?
But it still can not detect higher sample rates. Try using it at 192khz or 96k. All of the frequencies are severly offset. I reported this bug years ago and it was ignored and never fixed.
I checked it on Billie Jean. Your plugin says way too little low mids and way too much high end. Obviously Bruce Swedien did not do a good job haha I attenuated high end and boosted low mids, the result was not satisfactory. I do not not get your plugin!?
Hi! Sorry for the trouble. This sounds like you may be using Tonal Balance Control 1, not Tonal Balance Control 2. However, if you are on Tonal Balance Control 2 and are missing any target curves, please email support@izotope.com and our Customer Care team and send you a download link with all of the curves to add to your presets folder.
IT DOESN'T WORK !!! That upper mid sound harshness is about some instruments problem but not all instruments. Yes you made it less harsh but you lost clarity of vocal and some other instruments. Learn how to mix in the first place and then you don't need to make your songs muffled like that!
Not sure you understand what the Tonal Balance module is doing... it is ONLY altering the DR percussion track's EQ/level and nothing else, by using inter-plugin communication to affect the Neutron plug on the percussion. Presumably a master limiter is compensating by allowing more low end to come through (which may give the impression of less vocal to you?).
TonalBalanceControl only shows areas of weaknesses, it leaves it up to the mixer how to solve them. You don't even have to use Izotope-Plugins at all to solve them.
its really funny how you say "yes you made it less harsh but you lost clarity of vocal and some other instruments" but the eq move he made was only on the claps and hi hats, not the entire mix ... and then you say "learn how to mix so you dont make your songs muffled" ... please use your ears next time because he did not even eq the vocals or any other instrument in this video.

In this example, he worked on a specific group track as opposed to the entire mix, so he did what you're suggesting as well!
This is sorcery. I’m ordering this right now.

This is amazing. Alot of these plugins are hard for me to pickup but this is pretty straight forward.

So ahead of the curve guys. You rock!
wow, im planning to buy the full version in a few days ;)
powerful stuff! just got ozone 9 upgrade finally!

Very simple and useful.
Wow. I want the new ozone so badly but I have to save up for a digital piano first! the AGONY!
You can rent to own for 9 dollars a month on splice
@@elijahtrenton8351 Wait do you still have to pay to update on splice?
I use this ever single time I work on a mix.
You guys are amazing, thanks a lot!
Also cool reference track (;
The great track is Kafka Tamura - From Here
I love it, thank you!
this is a great video, explains very well
I watched this because it was produced by the maker of the vst. However, not one word was mentioned about the Crest Factor, and what it is used for.

I'd buy it if it were Hi-DPI.
Unfortunately, it looks bad on 4K displays.
Excellent tool!
Thank you, ;-)
What if I started by adjusting the bass instead?

Does the cret factor indicator concerns only the low end ?
Somebody please tell whats the song in the background
White Reaper - Might Be Right
Kafka Tamura - From Here
Very very very very very*Rayos Number+1 Cool

I am confused, should this be used after mixing before mastering or after mastering?
You can use it to check if your mix is balanced and later if your master is still balanced
So always after you did mixing or mastering
Linn Drum-, DMX-, 808 Kicks (short decay) : Tonal Balance Control will tell you to dynamic crest level no matter how you process/tune them. WHY.
I only use tonal balance for balancing the frequencies. I found the crest factor measurement is not that accurate.
What DAW are you using in this video?

This plugin is never right. Because of this, it still requires practice to know when it's wrong. I believe this tool does more harm than good.
