- Former League of Legends LCK caster and current podcast host MonteCristo explains the history behind the 2023 Worlds Anthem GODS ft. NewJeans. The music video chronicles Deft's career at the World Championship until his victory in 2022 with DRX. It focuses on his battles with his former teammates to ultimately achieve victory to tell the story of his lengthy road to the title.
bro, i think you didnt pause the MV or use cuts, you just did the commentary with the video playing in one take, thats pretty impressive i think, even if it took multiple takes
ONE TAKE WONDER BABYYYYYYYYYY
@@ggMonteCristo that was really cool, good job Monte
Yeah, I was afraid for a while then just impressed the rest of the video!
@@ggMonteCristoyou are definitely a rushing, not the dragging type
While I would've loved a pause-and-talk version, this was also super nice.
Videos like this is important for newer fans to understand the history and importance of players like deft
loved this short video not just for pointing out the references, but also explaining the context and history behind them. like was said in the video, it really puts into perspective how storied deft’s career is with the sheer number of times he lost to people who were once his teammates (or current teammates with canyon and sm). great job monte
maybe lost to is not the best wording, but rather faced in some of his most pivotal matches. at least in regards to what the video highlighted
I can't stop thinking about the final fight scene and how everyone gets to do something except Beryl Bard just chilling there in the back LMAO
Don't do him like that. He teleported them there, you can clearly see that they come in using Bards Magical Journey
naw thats history accurate, beryl recalled when they ended LMFAO
Azir literally just shows a puff of sand
@@obunga7834 NGL that's a genuinely very cool and funny detail, if they made him do nothing on the MV on purpose.
I am in love with the explanation, you didn't even pause the video and yet you could still explain so many references just by talking and still manages to speak very clearly. I appreciate the video very much
This is why I've followed your content for all these many years. Your insight and intuition is on a deeper level. I appreciate this analysis.
The story telling of the mv plus the amazing vocals of new jeans got be goosebumps. This vid helped me understand more about the journey of these LoL Gods. Thank you Monte. New fan of LoL here :>
monte knows his facts, thats hella impressive
I think the scene with Deft EZ ulting blue is a nod to his uncanny buff steal skills. I feel like I remember many a late night with You and Doa laughing over yet another blind steal.
Clean, informative, on point, well delivered, as should be expected from Monte by now but refreshing to see nonetheless
Thanks for this Monte!! Good choice of video!!
as a newer fan of LoL, the history lesson was great! I love Gods, both the song and music video are bangers
Oh Monte you were my favorite caster, i used to follow league throw you. I miss you. Thanks for the video, didnt know u are still making some league content, this is the best birthday gift ever for me, i feel pure nostalgia hearing you, reminds me the good old days.❤
Thanks for the kind words! You don't have to miss me, I still do a bunch of LoL shows on the Last Free Nation UA-cam here: www.youtube.com/@lastfreenation
amazing work ! keep it up , loved the full story!
I've only been playing League for about 1 1/2 years now so this was awesome for me to learn the backstory!!
I miss you casting Monte! Thank you for all the insight and background for Deft! It shows that Riot went pretty deep to make this video!
I LIT GOT GOOSEBUMPS WHEN WATCHING THESE MV KNOWING THE JOURNEY OF DEFT FROM START TO FINISH
THIS WAS AWESOME! After watching the Gods video (which is also awesome) I was trying to find someone breaking down the moments and storylines they were trying to tell and you delivered that perfectly! TY! Awesome job!
As someone whose followed League since its inception, I recognized all these moments as well but I just love how Monte explains it all. Thanks! 2022 really was the greatest storyline possible. loved it
They did a great job of picking the context and the story and I think that you even did a better job of breaking it down
what a fantastic video, I love how you told this story so quickly without any pauses almost like you're casting a League game ♥
brother this video feels it has an even better cameo with your commentary on it, i have massive respect for you and your work in LCK!!!!
Outside of the interesting narrative, by using a storyline of past worlds
The Art direction (mainly backgrounds) is terrible. Riot has been getting worse worlds songs since 2021. We use to have impressive art wise videos, with lots of effort into characters and backgrounds, now we have nice characters (easy to recognize), but only 3D models jumping on a boring universise with light/renders not worth a worlds song. Plus, the Song again, like last year, not hype at all
Thank you for educating all the noobs on lol history.
The internet is full of reactions from people who know nothing of lol.
You've just earned another fan.
During hte big skip yuou can see Deft wearing the 2018 KT Rolster jersey and the pink wisps around him were the Jackeylove Xayah autos that eventually brought down the team in quarters.
Montecristo still MVP best caster of all time!!!
lol at least this is someone who knows what the references are in the video. Most of the reactions are from clueless streamers, which is such a waste of the easter eggs they put in.
The stories LoL has created are so amazing... Thanks Monte for the explanation
I mean, I get why they chose Faker and Keria to represent T1 in the finals, but not showing Guma's insane Baron steal is such a missed opportunity.
Clawing back from that was the single best demonstration of the "unbreakable heart" and Worlds 2023 in a nutshell.
Thank you so much for this. I am clueless about LoL. But heard of Faker through BTS twitter long story. Initially I thought Deft was Faker.
This is one of my favourite songs and video too
It's a good to see Deft's story as a MVP and SSG fan. It's nice to have a music video full of memories about LCK and Worlds. And Monte, who occupies a part of that memory, I'm happy to see you, too!
I'm pretty sure faker fighting baron there with zed is a reference to baron steal against FNC during allstars 2014
This is the content that has been missing from most of the Worlds animations
Are you still casting esports these days? If you are, please let us/me know. Would love to tune in to a game of whatever you're casting. Heck, maybe I'll get invested 😊
Great video Monte! Really enjoyed the insight.
I would have love to see the KT vs IG 2018 worlds quarterfinals match here but I guess they decided to skip that one. It was such a banger series.
They didnt show 2018 worlds cuz they didnt want Monte to suffer again :p
Glad to see a new upload Monte, hopefully the business side of LFN gives enough space for you to upload more in the future
this entire music video got me into watching more lol gameplays in worlds and the explaination just made me even more interested in lol and worlds itself 😭 now I can’t stop watching gameplays of legendary and famous players pls whwhwhshqjbdhs
welcome!
1:54 2018 Worlds IG vs KT Jackeylove Zayah, Ugor, Jayce etc.
뉴진스 떄문에 찾아봤는데 페이커가 대단한 선수인가 보군요.
3:35 i this this refers to the moment where faker and another teamate attacking drx base but drx tpd baxk to base just in time to stop them and win the match
I can see how can someone be a good caster now lol he didn't even pause the video to analysis everything
Great breakdown mate.
i dont like the song but the story break down was insane. Like a history lesson.
You missed the dark room - Jayce Q - Probably Smeb 2016 quarters, Xayah feathers and KT uniform - KT vs IG 2018 Jackeylove
Dope video. Solid explainer video. Boring song.
I thought the blue was a reference to MVP Blue
the xayah feathers after the Deftvs Rekkles FNC loss. it was reference of the 2018 worlds where he loss to JKL in quarters to the flash all in JKL Play
gala~gala~gala~god~god~god~~~. to obvious riot.
great video, thanks monte.
So much lol history in one music video
fire recap. live time too well done sir
I was happy to see Pawn's Jayce referenced. You don't see that too often in Riot's media.
Man i missed you in League scene.... specially in LCK... looking forward to the new YT career
Hello, Im your big fan from Korea I started watching you since the overwatch OGN APEX era when you did the cast with Doa. You two were my favorite duo and you are also my favorite western analyst. Thank you for making good E-sports contents till this day. Keep up the good work : )
Loved the explanation Monte! We still miss you and DoA on the casting couch per say! Hope you're doing well!
Damn, haven't watched your content in...YEARS! 😂😂
Monte on the content grind lets gooo
Love this. Miss ya, hope all 3 of you are doing great (unless there was another kid! I'm barely on Insta)
OMG can't believe u did a reaction vid on this!
one thing u missed tho at 0:38
on the wall, the 급훈(school moto) says "중요한 건 꺾이지 않는 마음(the key is to never give up)"
which pretty much describes Deft's entire journey as a pro player
and was one of the hottest phrases in Korea this year
LCK ain't the same without u, miss ya!!!
10 years wow !
Imagine the MV that riot will put out if Faker wins worlds 2023.
😅 i started league in 2018. Thanks for the history lesson, makes their run even more massive.
Bruh the breakdown not stopping was insane!!! Great job 🔥🔥🔥
i dont think second part is just a metaphor faker did steal a baron against fnatic in 2014 all star with amazing play on zed i dont remember any highlight of deft blue buff steal with ezreal ult tho
amazing vid detailing small detailing even many lol historians wouldve missed. very few are as knowledgable regarding lol history as monte is. Still remember his T1 train conductor skit at the 2013 worlds.
Thanks for the history
love the anthem and im loving you explaining it, I don't agree with some of your views but I love it when ur involved with League.
I legit forgot you had a youtube, glad it still showed up in my sub box, enjoyed this one.
I’m glad you did this because most of the reactions I saw on youtube were from kpop reactors who don’t have any idea of the references made in the video and just said, “Sick animation,” or something like that. On a side note, Deft’s entire career is just so story material. The MV didn’t even have some of his crazy moments because there was just too many.
Don't know if it's intentional, but the theme of him dodging everything fits his reputation of excellent positioning and skillshot accuracy.
clear , straight to the point and didn't even pause the video. You don't see that often anymore on UA-cam, thank you for this.
so concise for how much information you packed in, thank you for this as i wouldnt have gotten half of these references or known any of the back story without it!
Heart, unbreakable 2:56
To add the Faker Zed play could also be a reference to the baron steal vs FNC at All-Stars
10/10 thank you so much 🙏
Saw a comment that you did this in one try.
Makes it even more impressive.
the shoud have shoed the HLE days whit Chovy and him featuring later whit Doran, but well it is what it is.
Now this is something I really like. I don't follow LoL's competitive scene so actively nowadays, but I do remember these teams and players from season 3 to 7 and it gives a really nostalgic vibe since I can somehow actually relate to these people. Really nice work from Riot!
awesome content man.
Riot putting effort i to immortalising esports history is important and I hope they continue, this was very well done and the video is incredible, spitballing deft's competitive history like its nothing
Respect
Lovely video Monte, Not always in liking with some of your statements etc. but really great video, recapping the years and memories for us old watchers and potentially making it understandable for the new or not as invested people watching league and worlds!
Amazing job!
Make a better version with some footage of the games that they are referencing
True legend didn’t realize he played with so many of these players or the history thank you for the amazing commentary
Monte IS god
Nice video gj 👍
Love these kinds of breakdowns. You da man!
it still baffles me Deft and Faker went to the same high school, this is some anime shit
great video, I love to learn about players history
I hope to see more content like this, thank you!
i love that this video highlights the story line from last worlds instead of just making a guess of what players will be at this worlds like they normally do
Awesome!
Love this great video Monte, looking forward for more of your Worlds content.
와 몬테형 폼 미쳤다 장면과 선수들과 스토리를 다 잡아내네 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
well now we need to watch Keria's first title. He deserves it
Thank you! crazy how long his career is going on for
I'm glad that PawN got some flowers in this video as despite being second fiddle to Mata and Dandy in that worlds his form was absolutely absurd and he shrugged off so many players solo like they were nothing. It was a brief but absolutely brilliant peak from PawN.
SSW at Season 4 Worlds might of been the most dominate team ever. They just stomped every team they played. Looper was probably the weakest link and even he played great. Dandy, Pawn, Imp and Mata just outclassed everyone
nice vid monte
thanks for the history explanation monte
Right on time, Monte!❤
