    Ive used 40 volume cream on my shoes before for resell and it made them icy again, but after about a month the yellow returned and was worse then before

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому +3

      Yeah yellowing will definitely return after time and in my personal experience, the product used for icing plays a large role in how long it takes for the yellowing to return. I hope to do a video one day that will track this over time but it’s challenging as there are so many other factors that will influence this including wear, material, storage conditions, weather, light conditions, humidity, and more. In my experience, salon care is the least effective product which is why I choose to utilize other products for my projects.

    • @brandonpadilla9079

      is there a product that makes the yellowing come back slower or one at all ?

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому +2

      @@brandonpadilla9079 to be honest, I haven't worn any shoes for long enough for the yellowing to come back after i've iced them,. I think a lot of it has to do with the original conditions of the shoe and how yellow they were prior to being iced as well as age. In my experience, with shoes that have been unworn since icing, and have been sitting in inventory, I find the sauces that worked quicker and better tend to maintain the iced appearance longer. The most important thing though is how and where the shoes are stored and/or used

    I’ve figured out that most of these “icing products” are pretty much salon care 40 creme or 50 creme! It’s the same shit they’re just putting their name on it! I’ve heard angelus does work better so I’m gonna try it out…but most of these “others” are 40 creme! Smells the exact same and looks the same!

      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому

      While I do agree that many do operate the same, I have consistently found, with nearly a dozen different products, that Salon Care 40 does not give results as quickly nor does it provide the same intensity of icing as other products do. I have other updated videos testing other products that I would recommend checking out. I would never throw shade at salon care 40- it's a great product that works well and gives some of the best bang for the buck but in my experience and experiments, has not performed as well.

    I used a Led Grow Light 1000W and the sole restorer Tarrago on my AJ6 Infrared sole for more than 24 hours and don't see any change or progress from brown to the ice color? How is this possible?

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  2 роки тому

      there are a number of factors that could go into the lack of results. Some of the things that may deal with the shoes themselves: improper/insufficient cleaning prior to icing (make sure the shoe is clean before icing it!), age of the shoe (if they're super old, they may have been stored in conditions that lead to more permanent yellowing. Moisture, temperature, light exposure, environment, atmosphere etc. all have a role in the oxidation of sneakers), overall wear (if they've been worn hundreds upon hundreds of times, the yellowing may be more irreversible; if they've been worn in harsh conditions, they may be more susceptible to more irreversible yellowing; etc.).
      Set up wise: I personally use a 1500W grow light and I find that works wonders; I don't know for sure but the wattage may need to be upped on your setup. Additionally, are you using mylar liners in your setup? you want to make sure that you're going to be reflecting the light as much as possible. Additionally, if you're not using saran wrap, make sure that you do! the saran wrap will help maintain the moisture so the sauce doesn't dry out. If the sauce dries out, it won't do anything anymore!
      As far as Tarrago goes- I have never personally used it so I can't speak on it! I will certainly look into it and would love it if you could link me to the product. I would love to review it in my new icing series which you can find here: ua-cam.com/video/LIS3JRGdAg0/v-deo.html

    Any advice to unyellow Jordan 5 netting?

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  2 роки тому +1

      TL:DR- is it possible? from my understanding, yes but I have not done it and I would probably avoid it with typical "sauces" myself
      ive heard its possible but I have never done it myself with any sole sauces. Sole sauce is a very strong chemical and as such, contact with the uppers should be avoided at all costs. I have heard of people removing the netting to try to deyellow it but I would be concerned with the kind of material it is. You may want to look into products like "NuAntidote" which is a cleaner with deoxidation properties that I have had luck with when deyellowing uppers on shoes. NuLife Kicks is allegedly making a line of safe icing products too that will not harm the uppers of shoes. Stay tuned for some of my newest icing videos in my "You're Icing Wrong" series to learn more about different products!

      the patent leather is a special finish on top of the leather that gives it the shine; it is possible to restore that kind of lustre but is best left to experienced individuals; this is a project I have not ever completed myself but have seen Gifted kicks, shoeculture615 and others do on IG

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому

      thats a great question! Honestly, I've never counted it out. There are a number of different factors that play into it. Size of the shoe is a big one (bigger shoes = more sauce used), how thick you layer on the sauce (I like to do nice, mild to moderate even coats), and how long you ice your shoes per session (I have my set up dialed in so that I reapply ice after 48 hours and as such, I save sauce in comparison to those that reapply after 24 hours).
      Thank you so much for the support! More videos coming soon for SURE!

    I noticed you just wipe the solutions off with a towel after each session. Is it bad to rinse them off after each session? Do the soles need to be completely dry between sessions?

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  2 роки тому +1

      It all depends honestly; if there is still moisture in the sauce and I feel like I am able to get it all off with just a towel, I'll just do that. If the sauce has completely dehydrated, I rinse them down to get off all the dried sauce (I will use a wet all purpose or stiff bristle brush for this part). I find that the sauce will stay a bit better when the soles are dry. With how runny most sauce is, I find that if there is any excess liquid, the sauce will run more and make more of a mess. I prefer when it's easier to control so I don't worry about it spilling onto other parts of the shoe and potentially damaging them
      its not WRONG to have them a bit wet/moist, I just find it makes the process harder and I am always trying to minimize anything that could lead to any potential leakage/spillage of sauce

    I used salon care 40 to ice my soles and I noticed the soles lost traction, like they don’t have that grippy rubber anymore, am I doing some thing wrong or is that normal?

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  2 роки тому +1

      i've heard this on multiple occasions as a matter of fact. To be 100% honest, I don't know exactly why that is. I have seen multiple sources state that it is due to the mix of chemicals in the salon care 40 product and being that it was not originally meant for shoes, it can cause adverse effects. I have noticed this on a few of my pairs that after they have been iced, they end up feeling a bit more slick or slippery. One of the recommendations that I have is to use a sole sauce that has been specifically designed for use on shoes. There are multiple good ones out there. At this point in time, my personal favorite is "Chris Custom Kicks" Sole Sauce; I seem to get the best results with that. Additionally, making sure that you are controlling the climate as far as temperature is concerned also seems to help. The better you are able to maintain a cool temperature, the better the results with less damage to the shoes. From my understanding (and this is what I've heard, I have minimal experience with wearing kicks after icing them as I have only iced 1-2 personal pairs) if you wear the shoes, it should help to restore the traction on the shoes. if you wear them on rougher surfaces, it will eventually wear down the top layer of the sole and expose a more grippy under layer. Make sure that you're cleaning your kicks regularly after washing them as to slow the oxidation process and slow the return of the yellowing. Hope that helps! Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer for you.

      So sorry for the late reply. Lights will always heat up to some extent; I keep a fan blowing to circulate the air and keep my setup in a cool place. I personally would not risk it. I cannot be 100% sure as I have never tried. If I were going to try, I would not do it on a heel tab that was on the shoe still, I would remove the tab first and that in itself is a project

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому +1

      Depends on the condition of the shoe; I've done pairs in as short as 24 hours in my indoor set up. I usually run 48 hour sessions and the most that I've done is about three 48hour sessions. Each of the sauces will dehydrate at a different rate and when they dry out, you want to clean off the old sauce and apply a fresh layer. I've had some sauces stay hydrated as long as 4 days (96 hours)

    How long the shoes are supposed to stay in ?

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому

      it depends on the degree of yellowing, the strength of the light, and the type of sauce used. I normally leave sneakers in for 48 hours, take them out, clean off all the old sauce, and see if they need additional sessions. I have done shoes in as little as 24 hours and as long as 10 total days... all depends on the goals you have for the results. Some shoes will never de-yellow all the way due to age or advanced damage.

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому +1

      Yes absolutely. Each shoe will have a “maximum iciness” if you will and will not ice further beyond a point. That point is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, sneaker age, amount of wear, location of wear, conditions of storage, and more

      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому +1

      @@brunovillena9696 there is somewhat of a trial and error process to it; there is no right or wrong amount of time to leave your kicks in a UV setup; it's all about the degree of icing you want to achieve. Some sneakers go way quicker, others take days. I have iced shoes in my indoor set up for as short as 24 hours and as long as 8 days (combined total with multiple times recoating the shoes in sauce). If you notice the sneakers have been icing for an extended period without much change, they may have hit the limit (or you may be using a product that doesn't have the same strength of other products!)

    I have a question.
    Once the restauration process has been completed on the soles, How much do they last?

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому +4

      Appreciate the question! To be honest, I don’t have an accurate answer for you. There are multiple factors that go into the time it takes for soles to oxidize (yellow). Some standard factors include age, amount of wear, exposure to different substances (grass, water, oils, dirt, mud, etc). Typically, the older a shoe and the more “damaging” surfaces you walk on, the quicker oxidation will occur. Additionally, the amount of yellowing prior to icing soles will also be a good indicator of how quickly they will oxidize again; the deeper the color yellow, the more likely it is to come back more quickly (at least in my experience!). I have also found that “icy” soles tend to stay icy longer after a deyellowing/deoxidation where as white and grey rubber tend to yellow more quickly. I suspect the product used in the icing process will also have an effect but at this point in time, most of the pairs that I have worked on have been pairs that I have sold and not personals so I couldn’t give an exact answer (although I will note that some pairs that I have iced have been in stock for several months with no signs of additional yellowing and other pairs, especially those that I deyellowed white or grey rubber, have yellowed within 4-6 months albeit, less than they originally were). If you’re working with a personal pair, luckily the process is not terribly difficult to do, it just takes a little time so you can easily re-ice a pair without much effort.
      Apologies I don’t have an exact answer but I hope this helps a bit!
      Cheers and thanks for watching!

      @@charbokh You can use rubber cleaner/conditioner to protect rubber parts from oxidizing as well. Similar to the stuff you use on car tires. Just apply very small amounts so it doesn't get slippery and let it properly dry. Blocks uv rays and keeps the rubber moisturized. Definitely good to use on Jordan back tabs and wings since they always seem to crack/break with age. Protect your kicks people!

      @@umairawan4103to be honest, I am not 100% sure as I have never made it myself. In my research it has been recommended against using medical grade hydrogen peroxide for such projects. I personally rarely ever use sauce on personal pairs anymore- hydrogen peroxide will lead to chemical burn and damage, especially with repeated use as well as loss of traction. I stick with NuAntidote in 80%+ of personal projects as it’s a safe chemical that will not cause damage, can be used on a wide variety of materials, and is also a sneaker cleaner.
      Hydrogen peroxide based sauces were certainly the golden standard for a long time and achieve results quickly, but the trade off is long term sneaker damage and I would prefer to avoid that.
      There are dozens of tutorials of how to make your own sole sauce at home with household products but I personally am of the mindset that I want to purchase a product that was specifically made for sneakers that will achieve the desired results with the least possibility of damage to my kicks.

      Same time! As long as they get even light and the box is big enough, it’s not a problem; the Mylar sheets help to spread the light more evenly and although they’re not NECESSARY they do help. I’d recommend making sure the sneakers do not contact one another, otherwise, the cling wrap/Saran wrap can stick to the cling wrap on the other shoes and cause a mess when pulling the shoes out of the ice box.

    Hey I have been icing my shoes with salon care and I've noticed that my soles have been loosing traction and grip and I wanna know if u know why

    • @SailboatSupplies
      @SailboatSupplies  3 роки тому

      from my understanding, this is primarily due to temperature. The hotter it is, the more traction is lost. If you are using an indoor setup, I would, at the very LEAST have a fan on the shoes at all times to keep the air cool and circulating. If you have the luxury of being able to place your indoor setup in an air conditioned room, that would be the best. My number one recommendation personally-- use something that will ice more efficiently than salon care. Salon care tends to require more sessions in the ice box (in my experience). The longer you're icing, the more likely you are to lose traction because of inability to maintain consistent temp.
