Nice. Yea I’m hoping to just have this M5 as a “Dad Bike” something simple enough to ride around with my 9 year old when we ride the trails or just in the neighborhood.
Which fork is that and how much? I got a marlin 5 as an extra for a rugged commuter basically and i HATE the spring fork lol. I just dont want to spend a fortune on an air fork. Thanks 👍🏼 Mines a 2023 gen 2

Thanks for the comment. I think it all depends on your riding style. A 120mm fork is in my opinion the sweet spot for me. I’m not an aggressive rider and don’t take a lot of drops or jumps. But when I do get a little bit of air I feel confident that I’m not going to bottom out the fork.
Whenever I change a fork I usually buy a new headset since I’m already in there. I buy the budget sealed headsets off Amazon and they usually come with an easy on/off crown race included. The fork usually will not come with the crown race. They do include a star nut though.
does my current fork have one on it that I could use? Its the stock marlin 5 fork. The bike has hardly been ridden so I am thinking itll be fine to use awhile @@MASHLEY69
@@nathaneisenhauer7099 it will have a crown race on there. But sometimes the stock forks can be hard to remove the race. You might have success removing it with a flat head screw driver and a little patience
Dude I'm doing some work on my trek marlin 5 (2016 edition) I want ti change to single chain ring and change bottom bracket as the one on the bike is shot anyway you can assist me as I'm clueless
Hey man…nice. There are lots of videos out there on exactly what you’re trying to accomplish. I’d recommend checking out wolftick videos. They do a lot of budget builds. That’s where I got inspiration to get back into bikes a few years ago. The stuff they show can be applied to many bikes. You can get yourself a good bottom bracket and crankset off Amazon. Just search up JGBIKE Crankset. It’s about $40. You’ll also want some specific tools like a crank puller and bottom bracket socket to get the old stuff removed. Probably would also need a chain breaker tool to shorten the chain.

That's true about cutting the steerer tube. There's no going back!
Ha! Yes. I’ve made that mistake only once. Still worked but it was super close to being too short.

Did the stock crown race just come off that easy or did you previously remove it?
That was not the stock race, I had upgraded the headset prior to the fork and that was the race that came with the headset.
