  • Executive functioning (EF) skills play a crucial role in cognition, emotional development, academic performance and social well-being. Despite their importance, executive functioning challenges in young people are often mistaken for defiance or willful opposition. These challenges can affect anyone, and are common for neurodivergent people, such as those with autism or ADHD.
Laura Anthony, PhD, clinical and developmental psychologist at Children’s Hospital Colorado, recognized the lack of evidence-based treatments for EF challenges. She partnered with a multidisciplinary team to create an evidence-based intervention that focuses on what these patients need to succeed. Titled Unstuck and On Target, this groundbreaking new approach to EF challenges provides a suite of tools for clinicians, educators and parents based on real-world input from neurodivergent children and teens. The intervention uses easy-to-understand language and is designed to be fun and interesting - because patient buy-in is key to positive results. By focusing on what the neurodivergent patient needs, not the adults, Unstuck and On Target offers new hope for families affected by executive functioning challenges.
