Stoked you made this! We recently shot a doc where we had some shots with these two lenses for cross coverage on FX6's and they are close enough to match but great to see an in depth comparison of their differences. Great lenses.
It's sad that Zeiss has really stopped producing lenses. I've got the Zeiss 50mm F1.4 for photos and man the AF is terrible compared to other E-mount lenses
I was on the fence about building out a set of Contax Zeiss, but this video may have sold me on the Zeiss Jenas. The additional character and minimum focusing distance are two really big deciding factors for me. My biggest gripe with what I've seen in the test for the Jenas is the flaring. I just wished they flared a little less. How has your experience been with controlling flaring with the Jenas in different shooting environments? Another question. Do the Jenas have circular/hexagon bokeh throughout all the f-stops? One last question too is from your experience, how versatile would you say the Zeiss Jenas are? Some say it's between the Contax and the FD's in terms of "vintage-ness" so a fear of mine is building out a set where I love the lens and look but wouldn't be able to use it for much client work.
They flare pretty strong. With a mattebox and controlled lighting scenarios its fine. You’re using these lenses for their imperfections though. It just depends on the project. I feel like they’re in the middle of vintage and clean. Wide open they can be funky depending on the focal lenth. Truthfully for client work, I’ve been using Sony GM zooms and primes all year.

Their cine glass is still great. I’ve heard that about some of their older e mount primes!
Sweet!
Thanks!

@@jonwaldman94 Sounds about right. I’ve built a Soviet vintage lens set, but I use the Sony 24-105mm for everything lol
Left right left right left right left right

What’s not to love!
