I loved the intro so much
yooo
its so similar to your style
thank man, one day ill be at Gawx video tier level!
I was thinking about your style while watching this intro lol
@@kurvaczenkosame lol gawx came straight to mind
I think all that's missing in the bounce's design would be to make the edge between colors fuzzier. It would help making the reflections more natural
Yes, maybe even some pseudo-random complexity like camouflage. I've often wanted something like that on set when using ultra bounce and feeling the same way about it that Nicholas describes here.
@@althenimble I don't think you'll notice any random pattern from a camo bounce. Perhaps use a projection gobo setup through a scrim? I haven't tried before.
Yes! that would be the ideal! It would make them much more expensive to make. Often there will be some sort of thin curtain built in to the set and that diffuses the transistion between the colours.
Maybe, but I’ve noticed that the horizon doesn’t softly transition between sky and ground. So really, I think the design they have now is MORE realistic than that.
Also.. I know it would get defused to all holy hell.. but I wonder what would happen if you put some random black rectangles, either to one side.. or in the middle.. like a backlit skyline.. what effect that would have on breaking it up a bit..
It's always a good day when I see Lewis Potts uploaded a new video. :)
Seriously dude, thanks so much for making these videos and putting so much effort into them! This is the only cinematography channel on UA-cam that I find genuinely inspiring instead of just giving me gear acquisition syndrome (or giving super basic advice).
This is the most unnecessarily cinematic UA-cam video I've ever watched. Love it.
I really love the natural skin tone (even if it's just a minor touch). One personal note is the harsh line between the white and blue on the reflections (such as the cabinet) seeming a bit unnatural to me. Maybe V2 can almost have an ombre shift between the two colors. Sweet vid!
Yep... This v1 is a great concept. However, I agree if it was ombre in a variety of colors it'd be a hit, and make a ton of sense for a lot of practical productions.
All of those issues could be solved by bouncing a gradient of several feathered/colored lights off something white. What a WANK product.
Very cool idea, thanks for the demo.
Amazing how clearly it bounces onto the objects but the skin absorbs 95% of it. Like the other comments have said I bet it would be better if the colors had a gradient to them 🔥
The king is back! I’ve always wanted to try one of these. The reflections in objects around the room, and when you actually see it a little bit out the window are cool. Sick shades bro.
😎
the medival lute music caught me off guard, so whimsical and lovely
Man the frames on that intro got me 😍😍💖📽
thanks for reminding everyone that 5 minutes is the perfect length for UA-cam video.
brilliant stuff as always Lewis!
I literally just got my rag delivered yesterday! I went with Amazonia cause if the climate I’ll be shooting in the next few months. So excited to have this tool in my “go-to” kit
Intro, and reflection on the objects 🫶 cool to see the remote call with the creator as well!
Nice dude. I need more Lewis Potts in my life
Definitely want to try these! Great video!
2:26 ooooh I can see the difference! white bounce lets light in much more, bluff gives a cloudy day vibe and looks more contrasty
Frickin love this format, intro got me inspired
That is a nice idea!!!
Thanks for bringing this up!
Super big fan of how you’re having more and more fun with your videos, while simultaneously keeping the quality 💯
Interesting. Subtle. Adds an ounce of realism. I like it.
yooooo this intro - you're such a film maker
Tremendous intro. I love when cinematography/video channels actually weave some kind of narrative style into their reviews or breakdowns in that way. Stuff like that is often just as educational as the full videos because I get to see some techniques to use when you're both in front of and behind the camera at the same time haha.
Thanks!!
Funny enough Emmanuel Lubezki had something like this for Tree of Life. That was shot on film as well. It’s a subtle trick and works really well
SWEEEET!!!! Back in the day, we used to have to DIY.
This is a very interesting idea and tool. Great to see people thinking outside of the box.
Keep. Making. Videos. Like. This. Lewis!
Its always fun to watch your videos!
Hi Lewis , You got some charm in yourself that reflects. You are a great actor also. Loved watching you.
Your intro is so sick! Crazy filmmaking skills!
Top tire intro!
I love that subtle blue!!! great vid
Ooh, this man did such a huge discovery that is a gift for film making. Thanks for making this product!
You put so much work on this!😍
BRAZIL, LETS GO!
Genius!! That intro tho. Good stuff man!
What? How crazy was that intro?🔥😮
Interesting with some logic but not sure it makes sense in reality. Quite specific result but great that people are trying new things. I know using flags and scrim is what we are supposed to do but i have never really understood why we dont have graduated reflectors or graduated diffusion. Think Deakins cove light and creating a softer fall off would be so easy. I know placing flags or extra diffusion is more controllable but its so easy to end up with a spaghetti of stands and arms. Meanwhile my current favourite thing to do is use a mirror as a bounce as if its a window source. So often a room might seem dead or for practical reason the window is in the wrong place. I dont mean mirrored glass, more the plastic light and cheap ones. I know its not exactly news but doing that with some coloured filter in front or few branches or cucoloris to break things up often helps create a more lived in set of reflections and the highlights have a sharpness that creates some interesting texture. So many ways to do it and usually so little time. Thx as always
Another classic! Couldn’t stop chuckling at all the bits. Love these videos so much!
wow this looks so promising. Cheers Karnt
Holy shiiii… that intro was brilliant!! Another great video from the master
Man, Thanks for this! I found these bounces the exact same way. I was curious to see exactly what you showed! the reflections of the bounce was something great I didn't even consider. Glad you reached out and got to check them out.
OMG this is actually so clever and simple and genius! 👏🏼👏🏼 Loved this.
Very cool product. I could see how it could be used outside a window with/without curtains. And you use the colored fabric to block nearby buildings/houses from being seen through the window. Instead, there is the blue from the Bluffbounce screen giving the impression of a sky when the location is across the street from other houses or in the city. Plus, as mentioned, the colors from the screen bouncing off of objects in the foreground. A great way of adding mood or depth to the shot.
The hard cut-off between different colours makes this sort of a dealbreaker. The transition from one colour to the next on that fabric should be graceful and diffused rather than a hard dividing line.
I feel like putting your source through 4x4 gel frame that has some ctb and straw layed out in the same manner as the bounce would work better, better color, more subtle reflections. for a sun bounce seems cool though.
Props to Nicholas. But if anyone wants to try this for cheap, maybe get a piece of unbleached muslin and then spray paint the top half light blue. Then you'll have a nice fade too.
This is GREAT PRODUCT!! I can't believe no one else figured this our before now, and then marketed it. What a GREAT PRODUCT!
Great video, Lewis, and very funny. Keep it up!
This is actually a really fun idea…now I’m thinking of all types of uses. 🧐
at first it doesn't look like much keying but it's a crazy cool detail when added as a kicker and on surfaces! I love it. Also, I love your clap transition haha!!
One of my favorite channels. just thanks) You're cool!
I can't believe that you made this awesome opening scene with a Sony fx30? 😯 just crazy !!!
wow - awesome cinematography
subbed for the sly looks to the camera
I like what it's doing to the overall color of the image. Not a huge fan of the reflections on objects, but I could see it being useful in subtle ways.
love your videos!
That intro looked C R I S P ! 👍🏻 edit: an fx30 ?!? fuck me.. gonna sell my clunky komodo.
Yeah I just got one!
Yeah I want a BTS on that intro and thoughts on the fx30, that looked so good.
I think on faces it looks subtle. But that reflection on objects and wall it's kinda game change imo
"I need some fitting background music to go alongside me rigging this thing up... *types into music streaming service: "medieval rpg ambience" THAT'S WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR"
Excellent product. I was taking photos of a person with a sunset behind me and loved the look of the colours in the eye's and refractions. Always figured a big bounce with the same pricipals would be cool. It would be nice to see if they could have some sort of fade so it's not just a hard line. Would make it look even more natural.
it's arrived.
I'm sure about the bounce, but you were quite inspired for the making of this video!
Very interesting, gotta love something new !
I enjoy your channel a lot, Eli. I’m glad you’re putting time and effort into it. You are insightful and entertaining!
Great video and cool to here about smaller scale innovators
That intro was awesome!
Pretty cool! I would opt for a 600x and 600D into an ultra instead and offset the color temps to eye.
Another excellent video from you! It's so cool to see some of the innovation in lighting and modifiers especially when so much time and energy is focused on cameras.
I'm shook to see you shot on the FX30. I expected the Komodo. Would love to see a video with your thoughts on the camera.
Great video! I think I really like the look of the Bluff Bounce - what a great idea.
Love this concept, always cool when someone thinks outside of the box 👏!
Loved the video intro too 🎥 🍕 🥒 😆!
Friend o mine was spark on dunkirk = loads of tinted diffusion (blue or green)
this is fantastic. I had so much fun, and that’s a really interesting produce too. Hats off… or on
Thank you
Ohh shhhh, my girl is gonna kill me. This is my new Christmas gift to myself. ❤
The issue is light reflected off the sky isn't returned blue, it's returned white due to Rayleigh scattering.
The obvious blue tint of objects in a room showing a blue hue will most definitely be off-putting and will be noticed.
Definitely a cool product! Little details!
Pretty cool
Real good info and product ! Thank you to share 👍
It needs to have gradient of colors and they're in business. At the moment it's unusable for reflections 👍👍
I love the idea! Maybe they should offer versions that are dyed so the lines between colors fade into one another? Like an ombré dip dye?
Those red sunglasses really tied the video together.
😎
I often wonder why you can't pair a white bounce board with a digital projector to get the same effect. Create solid color templates that are projected on the board at an angle to give you whatever lighting effect you want.
I think you could, but the challenge would be that projectors don't give you quite as many watts per dollar as just buying a video light. Maybe the cheap alternative is to use a white bounce board and maybe a multi-colored gel. You'd make the gel by cutting up a few different colored gels and taping them together side-by-side.
This thing also works when you're bouncing sunlight, which can't be said for the projector or the gelled light approaches though.
Smart guy.
Dope intro 🔥
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. I feel like it would be simpler to use gels on lights bouncing off white instead. More economical 🤔 It’s a cool idea! But super niche. I dunno
Lol, my favorite part of the entire video is the intrusive camera bits. Good stuff. 😂.
Oh yeah, and the overpriced bed sheet that's making negligible difference is nice, too. 👌
Uh, do one of those cut transitions. Hmmm. I'm leaving now.
I saw something similar called Brokeh, same concept but with a bit more of random patterns to it. Would be interested in seeing a video looking into that system too, especially their facial series.
Genius product
Interesting. Thx
Yeah it was pretty cool. 😊
Now you've got us wondering if we should be carrying some Bluff Bounce so people can try em out 🤔
I loved this intro a little too much
EVERYONE STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING!!! SIR POTTS HAS POSTED!
id prefer them to be a bit more jagged, or camo-esque. Maybe even just a photo..
You really had fun with this episode didn't you Lewis
how about make the design like a painting or photo, (outdoor scene, jungle, beach, cities for example) it will create a more abstract bounce & reflection instead of two tone color, also when it show up on the blurry background it still like it's belong there.
This is amazing, it´s like an alternative for DMX Lighting
What?
you've gotta do a shot breakdown for that intro
